I can’t help myself; I’m posting the news everywhere: got the official word this morning that I’m in remission. I had to really stop myself from running into the waiting room and yelling it out.

Sunday, January 15th, 11 am to 1 pm
Introduction to drop spindling with Courtney Vengrin
We will be venturing in to the world of the drop spindle! It’s a great way to start spinning if you’ve never tried it before. Drop spindling is more slow and controlled than wheel spinning and learning this technique can give you more control over your yarn’s twist and thickness. This is the most basic level of spinning so we will be starting with basic fiber and spindle knowledge so even someone who has never touched a spindle or roving can learn this technique! Don’t be afraid to try!

Basic spinning fiber knowledge
Spindle parts
Spindle types
Different drop spindling methods
How to spin on a spindle
How to draft your yarn
How to set the twist in your yarn

Not interested in classes, but love social crafting? We have a variety of groups who come to play in the shop!

Knit and crochet chemo and scarves for the Blue Ridge Cancer Center

The first and second Saturday of each month, 11 am to 1 pm
Knitted and crocheted hats and scarves are gratefully accepted! All items must be soft plus machine washable and dryable.

The third Friday of each month, 6 to 8 pm
The scarf made famous by Tom Baker is a great way to learn how to knit. This is a big project – come in for support!

Spin-in!

The third Saturday of each month, 11 am to 8 pm
Bring your wheels and/or drop spindles. People come in and out all day!

Studio Roanoke

We’re going to be yarn bombing Studio Roanoke the last weekend in January on the 28th and 29th. We have received permission from both the building’s owner and the artistic director of the theater. I would like to invite everyone to participate!

The theme is flowers and vines to be knitted or crocheted in acrylic yarn. Why acrylic? Acrylic is better and cheaper for outdoor use. Here’s a chance to use up all that acrylic yarn you haven’t got the heart to toss! If you need patterns, we have them here at the store.
