Known Superhuman Powers: The Juggernaut possesses untold power, mystical in nature, which enhances his strength to an as yet unknown degree and makes him a seemingly irresistible, unstoppable being. Once he begins to walk in a certain direction, no obstacle or force on Earth has been observed to be able to stop him. Apparently, only he can stop himself. Some obstacles (many tons of rock, for example) or forces (such as plasma-discharge cannons) may slow his pace considerably, but nothing has yet stopped him permanently from advancing. Besides giving him vast superhuman strength, the mystical energy from Crimson Gem of Cyttorak gives the Juggernaut an extraordinary degree of resistance to all forms of injury. Colossus : Peter Rasputin

Piotr Rasputin (Peter) was born on the Soviet collective farm called the Ust-Ordynski Collective near Lake Baikal in Siberia. His superhuman powers emerged in adolescence. At first, Rasputin was content simply to use these powers to aid the other people of the Collective.

However, Rasputin was contacted by Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men, when Xavier was organizing a new team of mutant X-Men to help him rescue the original X-Men from the sentient island Krakoa. Rasputin agreed to leave the farm community in which he was born and raised to go to America with Xavier. Xavier gave Rasputin the code name "Colossus" and Rasputin aided Xavier's other new recruits in their battle against Krakoa. After the battle was won, Rasputin remained in the United States with the new X-Men while the rest of his family stayed on the farm.

Rasputin's family always remained in his thoughts. Shortly thereafter a woman known as Miss Locke kidnapped many of the X-Men's loved ones to use as hostages in order to force the X-Men to aid her in freeing her employer, Arcade, from captivity by one of Doctor Doom's robots. Among her captives was Colossus's younger sister Illyana, whom Locke had somehow kidnapped from the Siberian collective farm and transported to the United States. The X-Men freed Illyana from captivity, and she went to live with her brother Piotr (known as Peter in America) at Xavier's mansion. Due to her later captivity in a dimension known as Limbo where she spent years while only mere moments elapsed on Earth, Illyana became the adolescent sorceress known as Magik.

After Illyana was returned to her true Earth age, Colossus thought it would be better for Illyana if she went back to live with their parents. Sadly, her parents were slain and she was kidnapped by a mutant known as the Soul Skinner who hoped to genetically evolve Illyana to the point where she would have the use of her powers again. Colossus, with the help of the X-Men, saved Illyana and brought her back to the mansion.

Later, Illyana became the first tragic victim to be infected with the Legacy Virus and die from it. The deaths of his immediate family caused Colossus to rethink his position with the X-Men and join Magneto and his Acolytes, who had offered him an alternative to the X-Men's way of fighting and living.

His stay with Magneto was not long once he realized that Avalon was not the place for him, either. He left in search of the only person he felt truly cared for him, his former love and teammate Kitty Pryde, now a member of Excalibur. Colossus traveled to England, where he found Kitty in the arms of her new love, Pete Wisdom. Colossus, enraged, attacked Wisdom, and although the battle was short-lived, they both sustained minor injuries.

Colossus accepted Kitty's new life and chose to become a member of Excalibur. Once the team dissolved, Kitty, Colossus and Nightcrawler returned to the States and became active members of the X-Men.

During this time he repaired his friendships with Wolverine and Storm, that were broken when he had joined the Acolytes. He also created a deep friendship with Marrow. Piotr again found his long thought-dead brother Mikhail, but unfortunately lost him again when Apocalypse collected the Twelve in his quest for power.

Beast, one of his X-Men teammates, claimed to have found the cure for the Legacy Virus. Not knowing weather or not it worked Colossus injected himself with the cure. Seemingly killing himself Colossus used his powers, and cured the Legacy Virus from anyone in the planet. The body was cremated, and Kitty Pryde spread the ashes in Russia.

The man known as Cable was born to Scott Summers, the X-Men known as Cyclops, and his then-wife Madelyne Pryor. Soon after Nathan was born, Scott's first love, Jean Grey, returned after being believed dead. Scott left Madelyne and baby Nathan, whom Madelyne had left in the care of relatives so that she could journey with the X-Men. After Madelyne and the X-Men were believed to be killed in Dallas by the Adversary (they were actually relocated to Australia and made invisible to sensory equipment by Roma), Scott retrieved his son and returned with him to his new team, X-Factor.

Madelyne was captured by the being known as Mister Sinister who revealed her true history to her. Madelyne was a clone of Jean Grey that Sinister created to seduce Scott Summers and produce a child that Sinister would control. Pryor became aware of her latent telekinetic and telepathic abilities, and became the Goblin Queen. The Goblin Queen, in an effort to keep a portal between Earth and the demon-infested dimension of Limbo open, kidnapped baby Nathan to use as a sacrifice. Nathan was rescued by a combined effort of the X-Men and X-Factor, and Pryor was believed to be killed by Jean Grey (a representation of Madelyne has since returned to life, but as of now Cable and Cyclops are unaware of this fact).

Soon after his rescue, Nathan was infected with a techno-organic virus by Apocalypse. As the virus spread through Nathan's body, threatening to turn Nathan into a body of liquid metal and organic steel, a member of the Clan Askani appeared from 2000 years in the future to Cyclops, saying Nathan would become a savior in their time, and that the Clan would cure him of the virus. Choosing to save his son's life, believing that he would never see him again, Cyclops agreed, and Nathan was taken 2000 years into an alternate future.

In this future, Nathan was raised to be the Askani'son who was promised to rid the future world of the rule of Apocalypse and the New Canaanites. Mother Askani created a clone of Nathan since she believed that Nathan would not survive due to the techno-organic virus which was consuming him. The clone was stolen by the Canaanites who were unaware that a clone had been made, and grew to become the madman known as Stryfe. Nathan was raised by two people who called themselves Slym and Redd, who were actually the newly married Cyclops and Phoenix whose souls had traveled into the future and inhabited new bodies. During this time, Nathan discovered how to use his telekinetic abilities to hold back the techno-organic virus, but the virus had already spread to the left side of his body, giving it a cybernetic appearance. After the teenage Nathan used his powers to defeat Apocalypse, Cyclops and Phoenix's souls returned to their own time.

During his time in the future, Nathan met and married Aliya, a member of Clan Askani, whose clan name was Jenskot in honor of Cyclops and Phoenix. Together they had a son, Tyler. Soon after, Aliya was killed and Tyler was taken by Stryfe and brainwashed into doing his bidding. In an incident to save hostages, Cable was forced to shoot his own son, who managed to survive.

As part of his mission as the Askani'son, Cable returned to the 20th century to foil the plans of Apocalypse and Stryfe, who had also returned to that time and formed the Mutant Liberation Front. Nathan, now calling himself Cable, formed a mercenary group called the Wild Pack, later known as the Six Pack, which included the future X-Force member known as Domino.

After the Six Pack was decimated in an assault on one of Stryfe's hidden bases, Cable, greatly injured, returned to the future. In the future Cable discovered records that stated Sam Guthrie, the New Mutant known as Cannonball, existed into at least the 23rd century. Cable believed Sam Guthrie would be the next in a group of immortal mutants known as Externals. Cable returned to the present to take command of the New Mutants and guide Guthrie's ascension into the Externals.

Cable reorganized the New Mutants into a strike force called X-Force and led them into battle against such foes as Stryfe, who had also traveled to the 20th century.

Stryfe attempted to assassinate Professor Charles Xavier and, believing himself the real son of Cyclops, kidnapped Cyclops and Phoenix in retaliation for their supposedly abandonment of him as an infant, taking them to his base on the moon. During the rescue of Cyclops and Phoenix, Cable and Stryfe fell into a temporal rift, and both were believed to be destroyed.

Cable survived the rift, but Stryfe's body was destroyed and his consciousness entered Cable's body, where it currently remains. For a time Stryfe's consciousness dominated Cable's, but Cable has since regained control. Cable returned to the present and to X-Force, giving them an explanation of who he is. It was revealed soon after that Cable is indeed the son that Scott had sent into the future, and Stryfe was the clone. Cable and Cyclops have since reconciled.

After this time, Cable experienced a marked increase in his telekinetic abilities, and the reemergence of his latent telepathic abilities. As a result, Cable began to lose more of his body to the techno-organic virus. As a result of the entity known as Onslaught hampering all psionic ability, Cable was beginning to succumb to the techno-organic virus, but was healed by his own willpower and the assistance of the young Franklin Richards.

KNOWN SUPERHUMAN POWERS: Cable is a mutant whose physical attributes have been enhanced to superhuman levels. His principal mutant powers are his vast telepathic and telekinetic abilities. He can employ the latter to levitate objects and to create protective force shields. He must continually employ his telekinetic powers to prevent the techno-organic virus from affecting the rest of his body. His techno-organic left arm and shoulder possess even greater strength than his entirely organic ones. Cable's techno-organic right eye can see into the infrared portion of the spectrum.

Nathaniel Essex was a biologist in Victorian England who developed advanced theories on human evolution. A geneticist of unparalleled genius, he foresaw the coming mutations that would transform mankind. However, his unorthodox experiments resulted in his ouster from the Royal Society and caused his wife to shun him. These rejections led him to ally himself with Apocalypse, an immortal mutant who has witnessed virtually the whole of human history. Apocalypse transformed Essex into the ageless being known as Mr. Sinister.

Sinister has conducted numerous experiments in his time. He operated an obstetrics clinic in New York in the late 19th century and performed side research on society's deviants. As Dr. Essex, he influenced the work of Herbert Wyndham, the man who became the High Evolutionary.

Sinister plotted the course of certain gene pools for more than a century, discovering that the combination of Scott Summers' and Jean Grey's traits would produce a mutant of incredible power. The future Cyclops was brought to Sinister's orphanage in Nebraska, and the geneticist collected a blood sample from the girl who would come to be known as Phoenix to confirm his findings. Sinister used that sample when Jean died to create a clone, Madelyne Pryor, who later became the evil Goblin Queen.

Following up on his genetic pursuits, Sinister set in motion the so-called "Mutant Massacre." A community of mutants who considered themselves outcasts from society, the Morlocks lived in tunnels under New York City. Sinister's Marauders annihilated the Morlocks because he considered them genetically useless.

Sinister first fought the X-Men during the "Inferno" crisis, an invasion of demon mutants he helped create. He sometimes aids Charles Xavier's team, but for his own reasons. Sinister helped Gambit save the savage Sabretooth's life, and assisted the X-Man again when he became trapped in the 19th century; took in the mutant Threnody and provided her with devices to control her energy releases; and returned Courier, a messenger with the ability to control every molecule in his body, to a more human state. In almost every case, however, Sinister exacts a price very costly to the soul.

When the High Evolutionary activated a satellite that stripped all Homo superior of their mutations, Essex, who had come to support his student's work, revealed himself as Sinister and modified the beam to mutate every human on Earth, hoping to create an entire planet of lab subjects. Soon after, the mysterious Neo attacked many of Sinister's facilities.

Known superhuman powers: A brilliant biologist and geneticist, experimented on himself and acquired superhuman powers, namely the ability of mind control - so strong, that even Professor X could not neutralize him - and being invisible to forms of electronic detection. However, he also lost his sanity in his process, and began to hallucinate of a Lord Apocalypse, who "ordered" him to kill mutants. In that respect, he seems similar to Norman Bates of the famous Psycho film. After shooting several young mutants (possibly Marrow, Maggott, Synch and another unidentified one),he failed to kill Jean Paul Berbier and tried to kill the X-Men, but was incapicitated by Rogue and imprisoned in the Triskelion of the Ultimates.

Doctor Strange : The Sorcerer Supreme

Stephen Strange was a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon whose career was cut short when a car accident resulted in nerve damage to his hands. Thereafter, he was unable even to hold a scalpel. Hoping for a miracle, a despondent Strange traveled to the Himalayas to seek the counsel of the Ancient One, a Tibetan sorcerer. As the Ancient One's guest, Strange learned the sorcerer's pupil Baron Mordo was plotting to kill his mentor. Trying to warn the Ancient One of his student's treachery, Strange was discovered by Mordo and mystically restrained.

Witnessing Mordo's power and discovering his murderous intent shocked the jaded Strange into a realization of evil's true nature and the need to combat its forces. The Ancient One freed Strange from Mordo's spell and revealed he had known his student's treacherous plans all along. Having peered into Strange's soul, the sorcerer saw his potential for great goodness and power, and adopted him as his disciple. When Strange's studies with the Ancient One ended, he returned to New York. Though the world at large believes he is no more than an eccentric occult authority, Dr. Strange has inherited from his mentor the mantle of Earth's Sorcerer Supreme.

When the Omegatron threatened the planet, Dr. Strange joined forces with the Hulk and Namor the Sub-Mariner to defeat the ultimate computer. Thereafter, the loose-knit band of Defenders would unite periodically, coming together to oppose threats to humanity.

HISTORY: Apocalypse was born nearly five thousand years ago in Egypt as a member of the Akkaba clan. Even as an infant, he inspired fear. Ugly and malformed, he was abandoned by the tribe to die in the harsh desert sun. The baby was found by a roving band of feared desert raiders known as the Sandstormers. Most of them, too, thought the infant should die. However, their ruthless leader, Baal, somehow recognized the potential power in the child. He named him En Sabah Nur ("The First One") and raised him as his own son.

As En Sabah Nur grew, he surpassed the other tribesmen in intelligence and strength. Everyone in the tribe except for Baal hated and feared him for his inhuman looks and great abilities. Nur did not understand their fear, but hardened his heart against it. Moreover, he believed in the principle that Baal and the tribe lived by, that only the fittest, tested by hardship, would, and should, survive. On the day of his tribal rite of passage into manhood, the seventeen-year-old En Sabah Nur killed three armed warriors of the tribe using only his bare hands.

Apocalypse can alter the atomic structure of his body at will in order to change his form. He can even increase his size by taking on additional mass from a presumably extra-dimensional source. Apocalypse has an extraordinarily long life span that has already lasted thousands of years. Known Superhuman Powers: Magneto is a mutant with the superhuman power to control magnetism. He can shape and manipulate magnetic fields that exist naturally or artificially. HISTORY: The mutant known only as Bishop was born in the 21st Century A.D. of an alternate timeline in which the mutant-hunting robots called the Sentinels had taken control of North America. In this timeline, Professor Charles Xavier and most of the members of the mutant team he founded, the X-Men, were almost all killed by the Sentinels. Mutants were killed or were imprisoned within "mutant relocation camps."

Bishop and his sister Shard were both born in one of the "mutant relocation camps." Like other mutants they were branded with "M" tattoos over their right eyes for identification.

Eventually, "normal" human beings and mutants joined forces and overthrew the Sentinels in the "Summers Rebellion." However, "normal" humans still resisted coexistence with mutants, and radical terrorist groups of mutants, such as the Exhumes, made war on "normal" humans.

Known superhuman powers: Rogue possesses the superhuman ability to absorb the memories, knowledge, talents, personality, and physical abilities (whether superhuman or not) of another human being (or members of some sentient alien races) through physical contact of her skin with the skin of the other person. (Sometimes she also duplicates in herself outward physical characteristics of her victim.) The victim's abilities and memories are absorbed for a time sixty times longer than the amount of time Rogue was in physical contact with that person. The victim loses his or her abilities and memories for exactly the length of time that Rogue possesses them. Due to unknown factors Rogue has permanently absorbed certain superhuman powers from Ms. Marvel I.

When Rogue possessed a duplicate of Carol Danvers' psyche, her "double" consciousness gave her high resistance to telepathic probes; it is not known if she still possesses this resistance.

Special limitations: Rogue cannot touch another human being without temporarily absorbing that person's memories, abilities, and superhuman powers (if any) and rendering him or her unconscious. Remnants of the personalities of victims whose memories she has absorbed remain buried in her subconscious indefinitely. Certain powerful beings have proven resistant to Rogue's power.

History: Rogue's real name and the identities of her parents still remain unknown. She grew up in Caldecott County, Mississippi near the banks of the Mississippi River. Early in her teens Rogue discovered her mutant powers when she kissed a boy named Cody Robbins. He fell unconscious and her mind was suddenly filled with his memories. She soon learned that she had the power to absorb the memories and abilities of other people by touching them, but she could not control this power.

The distraught Rogue found refuge with the mutant Mystique, who was like a second mother to her. When Rogue grew older she joined Mystique's terrorist organization, the third Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. In battle with Carol Danvers, the original Ms. Marvel, Rogue absorbed her memories and superhuman powers. But, for unknown reasons, Rogue unintentionally absorbed them permanently rather than, as usual, temporarily. Thus Rogue gained Ms. Marvel's superhuman strength and ability to fly. She also now possessed a buried alternate personality that duplicated Danvers and that, in future years, would sometimes supplant her own.

Warren Worthington: Archangel

Warren Worthington III was attending a private school in his adolescence when wings began to grow from his shoulder blade. The wings reached their full adult size within months, but Worthington kept them a secret by strapping them tightly to his back and concealing them under his clothes. At first he thought himself a freak. However, Worthington learned that he could use his wing to fly, and came to enjoy his new ability. Then, one night there was a fire in his dormitory, and he resolved to use his flying power to rescue the people inside. To conceal his identity, Worthington wore a long blond wig and a long nightshirt, so that he looked like an angel. The rescue was successful, and his identity remained a secret. Shortly thereafter Worthington became a costumed crime fighter in New York City under the name of the Avenging Angel. He was then contacted by the X-Men and agreed to join them.

Shortly after Professor Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men, recruited several new members for the group, the Angel decided to leave the X-Men. After his parents' deaths, Worthington inherited their vast fortune, and he used part of it to found a Los Angeles-based organization of super-human adventures the Champions. Worthington also publicly revealed that he was the Angel, although he and Xavier managed to keep secret Worthington's connection with Xavier's school, the cover and home base for the X-Men. When the Champions failed as an organization, Worthington decided to devote his time from then on to his business duties and to his renewed romance with longtime girlfriend Candace "Candy" Southern. Worthington also briefly returned to the X-Men.

His newfound relationship with his fellow X-Man, Psylocke, has been the anchor he needs while dealing with his current changes. It's no surprise that Warren is also providing the same comfort to Betsy as she deals with her own "evolution" as a result of her exposure to the life-saving Crimson Dawn.

Known Superhuman Powers: Angel is a mutant who can fly by means of his natural. Fully feathered like a bird's, the wings have a very flexible skeletal structure, enabling him to press them to the back of his torso and legs with only the slightest bulge visible under his clothing. His wings have superhuman strength and can create enough lift to enable him to carry aloft at least 500 pounds in addition to his own weight. Angel's entire anatomy is naturally adapted to flying. His bones are hollow like a bird's, making him weigh far less than usual for a man of his build. His body is virtually devoid of fat and possesses greater proportionate muscle mass than an ordinary human does.

His eyes are specially adapted to withstand high-speed winds which would hurt the average human eye. He possesses a special membrane in his respiratory system enabling him to extract oxygen from the air at high velocities or altitudes. Angel flies by flapping his wings, as a bird does. Though he generally flies below the height of clouds (6,500 feet), Angel can reach a height of 10,000 feet with little effort. With severe strain he can reach the highest recorded altitude of a bird in flight (African geese at 29,000 feet above sea level), but he can only remain that high for several minutes. He can fly nonstop under his own power for a maximum of approximately twelve hours. Contrary to some reports, he could not make a transatlantic flight solely under his own power. However, since his genetic alteration by Apocalypse, Angel may be able to fly for longer periods non-stop than he could previously.

Strength Level: The Iceman possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in moderate regular exercise.

Known Superhuman Powers: The Iceman is a mutant with the superhuman ability to lower his external and internal body temperature, projecting intense coldness from his body. Like any normal human being's, the nerve centers for regulating the Iceman's body temperature are found in the part of the brain called the hypothalamus. However, the Iceman can mentally override his hypothalamus to allow his body temperature to be lowered by an unknown internal mechanism. This ability converts the latent thermal energies in and around his body into an unknown form of energy that is efficiently dissipated. A related mutation has rendered his body tissues unaffected by sub-zero temperatures. The Iceman can consciously, immediately lower his body temperature from its normal 98.6 Fahrenheit to that of -105.7 F within the span of a few tenths of a second. As his body temperature falls, the surrounding moisture in the air that is in contact with him is similarly lowered. Just as condensed moisture forms frost, this moisture forms an icy covering which encompasses his entire body. It also obscures his facial features.

When the Iceman first began to completely lower his body temperature, this covering took on a more snow-like appearance. But as he learned to increase the severity of his coldness, the covering assumed the consistency of crystalline ice that it has today. This ice constantly cracks with any movement of his body, and immediately reforms. (Hence, there is a cracking sound when the Iceman, covered with ice, moves.) Through practice, the Iceman has learned to control the intensity of his coldness, and he can selectively lower the temperature of isolated parts of his body.

The Iceman can use his mutant ability to freeze any local air moisture into super-hard ice. This ice can be formed into any object of his choosing: the only limitations are his own imagination, his skill as a sculptor, the amount of available moisture, and the ambient air temperature which determines how long his ice sculpture will stay icy. He does not have to hold the ice physically with his hands in order to shape it. Apparently he can simply direct the waves of coldness he projects in certain ways so as to create ice in the shape he desires. In the past, the Iceman has formed ice-ladders, ice-slides, ice-shields, and ice-bats.

History: Robert Drake was born with the latent mutant ability to freeze moisture in the air. He slowly became aware of this power as it emerged in his adolescence, but kept it secret from everyone but his parents, who believed people would turn against young Robert if they learned of his power. The elder Drakes were correct, Bobby was walking with his date, Judy Harmon, one night after they saw a movie together, when they were attacked by a bully named Rocky Beasely and his friends. One of Beasely's allies held onto Drake while Beasely himself started to force Harmon to go with him. To save Harmon, Drake used his mutant power to temporarily encase Beasely in ice. Beasely was soon released unharmed, but Harmon was shocked, and the news of the incident swept through Drake's Long Island community, enraging local townspeople enough for them to form a lynch mob.

The mob broke into Drake's home, and he began using his powers to fight them off. But there were too many opponents for the young Drake, and the town's sheriff took him into custody for the youth's own protection. Learning of the incident, Professor Charles Xavier, mentor of the X-Men, dispatched Cyclops, the first and at that time only member of the team, to contact Drake. Cyclops broke into Drake's cell, but Drake refused to leave. The two began fighting using their powers, and their fight spilled out into the streets of the town. Eventually the two exhausted young mutants were captured by the lynch mob, which nearly hanged them. Cyclops and Drake broke free, and were saved when Xavier used his great psychic powers against the mob.

Drake's parents consented to Xavier's proposal to let Bobby enroll in his special school for superhuman mutants, and allowed Xavier to use his powers to erase their knowledge of their son's powers. (They regained this knowledge years later.) Xavier also permanently erased all knowledge of Drake's abilities from the minds of the townspeople. Thus, given the code name Iceman, Bobby Drake became the second member of the X-Men. Years later, Drake left the X-Men and joined the Champions of Los Angeles, a short-lived team of adventurers. After the Champions disbanded, Drake became a full-time college student, although he briefly rejoined the X-Men to battle Arcade. Later he joined his fellow former X-Men the Angel and the Beast as members of the Defenders.

With the apparent demise of some of the Defenders, the team was disbanded, and Drake took a job as an accountant. However, he soon left that job to join the other four members of the original X-Men as a member of their new organization, X-Factor. When Professor Xavier returned to Earth after an extended absence in outer space, Iceman and his fellow X-Factor members rejoined the X-Men.

Recently, Emma Frost, the White Queen, took mental possession of Iceman's body and was able to activate the full extent of his powers, turning his body into all ice. Since then, under Frost's prodding, Iceman has learned to transform his body into its "ice" state on his own. More recently, Bobby Drake infiltrated the presidential campaign organization of Graydon Creed, the head of the anti-mutant organization Friends of Humanity. After Drake's father spoke out against Creed's bigotry, he was nearly killed by Creed's thugs. Distraught, Bobby Drake left the X-Men for a time to be with his mother and convalescing father. He has since returned to the X-Men.

Psylocke : Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock

Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock is the daughter of Dr. James Braddock, who was once a denizen of Otherworld, an other-dimensional realm. A being who called himself Merlin (but who may not actually be the wizard of Arthurian legend) sent Braddock to Earth to father the champion who would be known as Captain Britain.

Living in England, Dr. Braddock became one of the United Kingdom's leading research scientists. He married a woman named Elizabeth and they bought the mansion they renamed Braddock Manor. There Dr. Braddock created a highly advanced computer complex called Mastermind (which is not to be confused with the two mutants of the same name).

Dr. and Mrs. Braddock's three children, the eldest, Jamie, and the twins, Brian and Elizabeth (nicknamed "Betsy"), inherited genes from their father that endowed them with superhuman powers. The children's powers, however, remained latent for many years.

Dr. and Mrs. Braddock were killed in an explosion in Dr. Braddock's laboratory at Braddock Manor that was caused by the malfunctioning computer Mastermind.

Brian Braddock eventually became the costumed champion known as Captain Britain. Betsy developed the psychic ability which she used in the service of S.T.R.I.K.E., a British division of the international law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Betsy also developed a highly successful career as a fashion model. She knew of Brian's double identity, and the two siblings took up residence in Braddock Manor.

Members of a British government agency called R.C.X., knowing that Brian Braddock was Captain Britain, attempted to recruit him to work with them. Refusing to be exploited by the government, Brian Braddock gave up the role of Captain Britain. The R.C.X. agents then persuaded Betsy to become the new Captain Britain, working with them. Betsy used a costume taken from an otherdimensional counterpart of Brian, which magnified her strength to superhuman levels when she wore it and enabled her to fly. Another other-dimensional hero, Captain UK, trained Betsy to become a crimefighter, and the two acted as partners on missions together for many weeks.

Finally, Betsy launched her solo career as the new Captain Britain, which came to a quick end when she went into battle against two of the original Captain Britain's arch foes, the Vixen and Slaymaster. Wearing a battle suit that amplified his own strength, Slaymaster savagely beat Betsy nearly to death and blinded her. Sensing her telepathic cries of agony, Brian Braddock rushed to his sister's rescue and fought and killed Slaymaster. Realizing he could not forsake his responsibilities, Brian resumed his role as Captain Britain.

Betsy went to Switzerland to recuperate. While there she was taken prisoner by the other-dimensional creature known as Mojo. Mojo took control of Betsy and gave her new, artificial eyes, thereby restoring her sight. Betsy was rescued through the intervention of the New Mutants, a team of adolescent mutants. Having regained her free will, Betsy chose to remain at the New Mutants' home, Professor Charles Xavier's mansion in Westchester County, New York, which also served as the secret headquarters of the mutant adventurers called the X-Men.

Betsy proved her courage to the X-Men by resisting the attack of their enemy Sabretooth when he broke into the mansion. As a result she was accepted into the ranks of the X-Men, becoming a costumed adventurer once more under the code name Psylocke.

Later, Psylocke was captured by the crime lord Matsu'o Tsurayaba. Seeking to save the life of his lover, the female assassin Kwannon, Tsurayaba oversaw a process through which the minds of Kwannon and the X-Man Psylocke switched bodies. In the process Kwannon's mind melded with that of Psylocke, endowing each of them with the same memories and telepathic abilities. Tsurayaba brainwashed Psylocke and turned her over to one of Earth's most dangerous men, the Mandarin. Under the name of Lady Mandarin, Psylocke briefly served the Mandarin, but ultimately Psylocke regained her free will and returned to the X-Men.

Later Kwannon, in Psylocke's body, became an ally of the X-Men, calling herself Revanche. For a time there was confusion among the X-Men as to who was the "real" Betsy Braddock. Finally, Revanche learned that she was dying from the Legacy Virus and had Tsurayaba kill her. Thus Betsy's original body died, but she lived on as Psylocke in Kwannon's original body.

Recently, Psylocke and her fellow X-Man, Angel, have fallen in love with each other. Psylocke was nearly killed by Sabretooth, but was healed by magical forces from a mystical dimension called the Crimson Dawn. However, Kuragari, a sinister being who had conquered the Crimson Dawn, attempted to corrupt Psylocke's personality through a mystical ring. Kuragari planned to make Psylocke his queen and through her father a genetically powerful bloodline. However, together Angel and Psylocke thwarted Kuragari, and Psylocke's mind is now free of Kuragari's influence.

A life-saving encounter with the other-dimensional energy source called the Crimson Dawn resulted in a more subtle, though no less meaningful, metamorphosis. Psylocke's fighting skills and telepathic talents were enhanced, and she acquired the ability to transport herself and others through shadows, as well as become one with the shadows. Also, the mark of the Crimson Dawn, a blade-like, red tattoo, appeared over her left eye. Betsy later sacrificed her psychic powers to forever imprison the telepathic criminal called the Shadow King in her astral shadow form, but subsequently acquired a range of telekinetic abilities.

Soon after, Betsy left Xavier's mansion with a small strike force of fellow X-Men in search of the diaries of the blind mutant seer known as Destiny, which map out human history for the next thousand years. While in Valencia, Spain, the team was captured by the Action Force of the Guardia Civil, that country's national police. Subjected to a battery of tests, the X-Men were released into a technologically fortified maze to gauge the their fighting abilities and mutant powers. Psylocke, the blue-furred Beast and the ability-absorbing Rogue found them selves in the headquarters' control center, separated from their teammates. There, they encountered Vargas, a criminal claiming to be the first manifestation of the next authentic generation of humanity, the pure and legitimate Homo sapiens superior. Her teammates wounded, Betsy engaged her opponent in a duel to the death, which ended when Vargas speared his sword through her abdomen. Psylocke's sudden demise left her teammates, and her lover, Thunderbird III, to balance the scales and complete the quest for Destiny's missing diaries.

Known superhuman powers: Psylocke possesses many telepathic abilities, enabling her to read minds, communicate mentally with others over long distances, stun the minds of others with "mental bolts," control the minds of others, and create illusions in the minds of others. Psylocke can intensely focus her psionic powers into her "psychic knife," with which she can stun or kill an adversary.

When using her powers, a butterfly-shaped energy aura would appear around her face. It was never made clear in the comic books by the writers, whether this was something that could be perceived by others or if this was simply an 'effect' to show when Psylocke was using her powers to the reading audience. This 'butterfly' (sometimes depicted as having eyes in its wings) was also the form Psylocke chose when manifesting her astral form, both on the astral plane and in the physical world, instead of an illusory image of her physical body. In addition, Psylocke possessed an ability not generally displayed by other telepaths: she could project a focused beam of directed psionic energy called a 'psycho-blast'. Unlike typical telepathic attacks, this beam was able to affect physical matter. Psylocke's telepathic blast shattered the Cerebro metal helmet that she was wearing, when she used her psycho-blast on Sabretooth .

Psylocke also possessed limited precognitive powers that occasionally allowed her to envision probable future events. However, these flashes were random and infrequent, and she had no control over them.

Jubilee : Jubilation Lee

Jubilation "Jubilee" Lee was born and raised in Beverly Hills as the daughter of two prosperous Chinese immigrants, Dr. and Mrs. Lee. She attended an exclusive Beverly Hills school where she became an extremely talented gymnast. One weekend her parents lost their money in the stock market. That same weekend two hit men mistook Dr. and Mrs. Lee for their neighbors, also named the Lees, and killed them.

Orphaned and impoverished, with nowhere to live, Jubilee was sent to the Los Angeles County Juvenile Hall. There she learned how to defend herself and became rebellious towards authority. The Juvenile Hall authorities arranged to send her to another orphanage. Fearing that she might eventually be sent to live with her only living relatives, who were in Communist China, Jubilee ran away to the Hollywood Mall.

At first she survived as a petty thief, stealing whatever she needed. But one day, trapped by mall security police in a dead end, in her fear and panic she unwittingly activated her superhuman powers for the first time. Globules of energy, which she would later call "fireworks," shot from her hands, exploding in front of the police, enabling her to make her escape. From then on Jubilee led a lonely life, her outwardly cynical attitude hiding her deeper fear that she could not trust anyone. She earned a living by creating "fireworks" displays for the mall customers with her newly emerged abilities.

Then one day, mall security, having failed to capture her yet again, contacted the novice mutant hunters known as the M Squad. Luckily, several female members of the X-Men--Dazzler, Psylocke, Rogue, and Storm--happened to be shopping at the Hollywood Mall that day. They foiled the M Squad's attempt to capture Jubilee. Fascinated by these women, Jubilee followed them until they exited via a teleportation portal provided by the mutant aborigine Gateway back to the small town in the Australian outback, where the X-Men were then based. Before the portal closed, however, Jubilee jumped in.

She emerged in front of Gateway moments after the female X-Men had left the scene. Gateway verbally welcomed Jubilee, although he had never spoken to any of the X-Men, led her to a tunnel, and pushed her down into it. She landed in the vast underground cavern that stored the bounty of the Reavers, the criminal cyborgs who had previously been the town's sole residents.

Jubilee created a living space for herself within the cavern. Although part of her wanted to connect with the X-Men, she did not trust anyone yet, mutant or otherwise. So she kept her presence a secret, watching the X-Men from her hiding place. She became a scrounger, taking food and clothing from the X-Men while they were busy elsewhere.

She finally emerged from hiding after most of the X-Men had abandoned their Australian base and the returning Reavers had captured and crucified the X-Man Wolverine. After Wolverine succeeded in freeing himself, she helped him escape to safety.

Over the following months Jubilee accompanied Wolverine in his travels through Asia. He became like a second father to her.

Jubilee finally met Professor Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men, when they were both captured by the alien Warskrulls. Subsequently, when the X-Men reunited under Xavier's leadership, she became a full member of the team. She continued to accompany Wolverine frequently on his solo missions.

After the X-Men defeated the techno-organic Phalanx race, Xavier decided to found a new school where the various teenage mutants whom the Phalanx had captured would be trained in the uses of their superhuman powers. Hence, Husk, M, Skin, and Synch became members of a new mutant team, Generation X. Xavier assigned Jubilee to join this new team as well, since she was in their age group. She was not happy, seeing her reassignment as a demotion.

However, Jubilee quickly became the team player in Generation X that she had been with the X-Men. Despite her characteristically cynical remarks, Jubilee came to love and trust the members of her new team as if they were her new family.

The globules obey her mental control, traveling where she directs them, arranging themselves in balls, streamers, and other shapes, and exploding when she wishes. These combinations may result in anything from a multitude of colorful sparkles capable of temporarily blinding a person to a fairly powerful detonation, capable of smashing tree trunks or metal objects. She can absorb these "fireworks" back into her own body without harm to herself.

Strength Level: While Wolverine may be of an advanced age, he possesses the normal human strength of a man in his prime with his height and build who engages in intensive regular exercise. While possessing the adamantium skeleton, Wolverine's strength was increased to the human maximum, making him capable of lifting (pressing) 800 lbs.

Known Superhuman Powers: Wolverine is a mutant with a number of enhancements to his physiology. Wolverine possesses heightened senses, making him capable of seeing things at a maximum distance greater than that of a normal human. His hearing is enhanced in a similar manner, and he is able to recognize people and objects by scent, even if that person or object is hidden. Logan can use these enhanced senses to track anyone, with an impressive degree of success.

The Best of Wolverine

He possesses retractable bone claws that are housed in his forearms, they are part of his skeleton system. At will Wolverine can release these claws through his skin between the knuckles on each hand. The skin between the knuckles tears and bleeds, but bleeding is quickly halted by his healing factor. The claws are naturally sharp and tougher than that of normal human bone structure. This allows Wolverine to be able to cut through most types of flesh and natural materials. (Note: While Wolverine possessed his adamantium skeleton, his claws were able to cut through almost any material without any fear of damage to the claws.)

Wolverine possesses an accelerated healing factor based on his physiology. While most normal humans heal injuries over a long period of time, Wolverine's healing factor speeds up that natural process. Wolverine's natural healing has been advanced to the point where he can heal extensive injuries (such as broken limbs) in a matter of hours to days. This factor gives him a higher resistance to poisons and toxins, and he can recover from almost any injury. The more extensive the injury, the longer the healing time will be.

In the late 1880's a child by the name of James Howlett was born. As a child James was a frail and sick boy. His allergies didn't allow him to go out and play much. His father had requested that a twelve year old girl be brought to their estate. That girl was named Rose and she was to be a friend and play mate to James. She read to him and looked after him. Along with the grounds keeper's son, Dog, James and Rose were the only children on the hill where the estate was. They had become close friends and played together as much as possible but Dog slowly grew away from them. Dog's father, the grounds keeper was named Thomas Logan, he was an alcoholic and abuse his son.

Over the next few years Dog started to follow in his father footsteps, becoming cruel and heartless. James was given more responsibilities by his father and grandfather. After a big fight, Dog killed James's K-9 companion which resulted in the Logans getting kicked off the Howlett estate.

In a fit of rage and anger Thomas Logan and his son entered the estate armed. They then took Rose hostage and demanded that she take them to the masters' bedroom. There the elder Logan tried to persuade James's mother, Elizabeth, to leave with them. Before they could leave John entered the room and discovered them together. In a rage of hate and dislike Thomas shot John as James walked into the room. Seeing his father shot and killed shocked him so much that it triggered his latent mutant abilities. His claws extended and continued through Thomas.

After his mother shunned him for his unusual abilities he fled the house. Rose followed to see what she could do. She found James outside the house on the ground and cold. She brought him to the barn in order to try and warm him up. Not knowing what to do Rose brought James to his grandfather house. He ended up giving them cash and told them never to come back again.

Rose took James and went to British Columbia looking for a place that they could live in peace. Rose remembered her father talking of quarries in the Northern frontiers and she figured that would be a good place for them to start looking. Making it to a quarry, they met a man named Smitty who was the foreman. That is when Rose gave James the name Logan to hide his true identity.

By the second summer there Logan was providing for both Rose and himself. He had trained himself to be a fine hunter and he also worked hard at the quarry. Smitty even gave him a new job in demolitions. Shortly after that Smitty asked Rose to marry him. The proposal upset Logan but he finally realized that Smitty did indeed love Rose. Logan then helped Smitty get money for tickets away from the quarry.

Before Smitty and Rose could leave Dog showed up. At the request of Logans grandfather he was to kill Logan and Rose for what he believed they did. In the fight that followed Rose tried to break it up but was struck by Logans claws and died. After that, not being able to live among people for what he did he left the camp and went off into the wilderness to live alone.

It wasn't until his first recorded encounter with the Hulk, as an agent of Canada's Department H, that anyone had heard of him or knew that he was interacting with people again.

Logan possesses memories of being a Samurai in Japan, a mercenary operative for the Central Intelligence Agency, and a "wild man" in the Canadian wilderness. Due to the extensive memory implants given to Logan through the Weapon X program, any and all of these memories are suspect. Logan has at least one memory of meeting Captain America in World War II which was verified as true. It is possible that Logan's healing factor grants him an extended life span and has granted him the physical condition of a man in his prime, despite his age.

Sometime after World War II, Logan was taken by a group of scientists led by Dr. Cornelius as part of the Weapon X program. Cornelius was hired to perfect and use a technique that would bond the indestructible element adamantium to human bone cells. Logan's skeleton was bonded to the adamantium, and he was indoctrinated into the Weapon X assassin program.

After his encounter with the Hulk, Wolverine was conscripted by Department H to join and lead Alpha Flight, Canada's government-run super team. During his leadership of Alpha Flight, Wolverine was approached by Professor Charles Xavier, who was looking for mutants to help his students, the X-Men, escape from the island-being known as Krakoa, which had captured them. Wolverine left Alpha Flight to accompany Xavier and rescue the captured X-Men. After Krakoa was defeated, Wolverine decided to stay with the X-Men, for reasons which included that he had fallen for the X-Man known as Marvel Girl.

Logan remained with the X-Men for quite some time, at one time being their field commander, and encountering adversaries such as Proteus, Magneto, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the Brood, the Reavers, demons from the dimension of Limbo, the Marauders, the Morlocks, and even Dracula on one occasion.

After his encounter with the mutant assassin Omega Red, Logan began to question the memories he possessed, but his searches to find his true identity and memories proved fruitless.

During an encounter with the mutant Magneto on his space station called Avalon, Wolverine attempted to defeat Magneto using the claws presumably given to him by the Weapon X project. Magneto retaliated, using his powers of the magnetic field to tear the adamantium out of Wolverine's skeleton, causing extensive injuries. These injuries shorted out Wolverine's healing factor for a time, and Logan also discovered that the claws that he believed a result of the Weapon X project were in fact a natural mutation. The claws he now possesses are bone, and a natural part of his skeletal structure.

As a result of his injuries, Logan left the X-Men for a time, returning after he was asked by Xavier, who also asked the mutant Cable, to rescue the X-Men in Tibet, where they were captured during the Phalanx invasion.

Recently, Logan was kidnapped by Tyler Dayspring, calling himself Genesis, who wanted to make Wolverine one of his new Horsemen. Genesis had acquired adamantium by destroying the body of the mercenary known as Cyber, and had planned to recreate the bonding process used on Logan years ago. This time, however, Logan's body rejected the adamantium, and he regressed for a time to a feral-like state.

Logan regained his lucidity, rejoined the X-Men, and is now supervising the team while Cyclops and Jean Grey are on leave. Still without his Adamantium, Logan was kidnapped by the would-be conqueror Apocalypse, perhaps the world's first mutant, and forced to fight the savage assassin Sabretooth for the mantle of the Horseman Death. Viewing himself as a more merciful candidate than his fellow mutant, Logan fought hard to win the battle. As a result, his skeleton again was laced with Adamantium. Under the control of Apocalypse, Wolverine fought the X-Men ferociously in his Death persona. But with the help of his teammates, he eventually broke free from Apocalypse's control.....

A homeless boy wandering the streets, Gambit was adopted by Jean-Luc LeBeau, head of the council of the Thieves Guild, a criminal organization based in New Orleans. As part of a peace pact between the Thieves Guild and their rivals, the Assassins Guild, a marriage was arranged between Gambit and Bella Donna Boudreaux, the granddaughter of the head of the Assassins. However, Bella Donna's brother Julien objected to the marriage and challenged Gambit to a duel. Severely wounding Julien, Gambit was forced to flee New Orleans to prevent war between the two guilds.

Gambit wandered the world as he applied his skills as a master thief, with his mutant power to charge objects with explosive energy. He employed playing cards he charged with kinetic energy as his trademark weapon. At one point Gambit agreed to assemble the team of assassins called the Marauders for Mister Sinister. Gambit did not realize that Sinister would employ the Marauders to massacre the underground mutant community called the Morlocks.

Afterwards, Gambit encountered the X-Man Storm, who had been transformed into an amnesiac child and who had turned to theft. He helped her escape her enemy, the Shadow King, and they became partners. Later, when Professor Charles Xavier returned from a long period of traveling in outer space, Storm, having regained her memory and true age, sponsored Gambit's admission into the X-Men. Gambit has remained on the team ever since and fell in love with his fellow X-Men Rogue. Recently, however, Gambit and Rogue have grown apart. As for Bella Donna, she has become Gambit's enemy. Recently, the X-Men learned of Gambit's role in the massacre of the Morlocks. Guilt-ridden, Gambit has left the team, at least temporarily.

In the alternate future in which the X-Man Bishop was born, Gambit has become an aged figure who witnessed the betrayal of the X-Men by one of their own members. Bishop suspected Gambit was the traitor until he learned how Xavier's mind spawned the malevolent entity Onslaught.

Known superhuman powers: The Beast has the superhuman strength, agility, endurance, speed and dexterity. He is strong enough to lift (press) 2,000 pounds. His legs are powerful enough to enable him to leap 14 feet high in a standing high jump, and 22 feet in a standing broad jump. He is able to crawl up brick walls by wedging his fingers and toes into the smallest cracks and applying a vise-like grip on them. He has enough power to smash through a four-inch thick oaken door with a single blow or tie a three-inch solid steel bar into a knot.

Henry McCoy's father, Norton, worked at a nuclear power plant where he was exposed to massive amounts of radiation during an accident. Norton was unharmed, but the radiation affected his genes, and as a result his son Henry was born a mutant. Unlike most superhuman mutants, Henry showed signs of mutation from birth: unusually large hands and feet.

Due to his superhuman agility, strength, and speed, Henry became a star football player as a teenager. His remarkable athletic abilities attracted the notice of both Professor Charles Xavier, who was forming the original X-Men, and a costumed criminal named El Conquistador. The Conquistador captured McCoy's parents in order to force McCoy to aid him in his criminal schemes. However, with the help of Xavier and the X-Men, Henry defeated the Conquistador, and he then joined the X-Men, taking the code name "Beast."

A brilliant student, McCoy completed his doctoral studies under Xavier's tutelage, and finally left the X-Men and Xavier's school to take a position as a genetic researcher with the Brand Corporation. There he developed a serum that acted as a catalyst for activating latent mutations. On drinking the serum McCoy underwent radical physical changes. He grew fur over his entire body, his ears became larger and pointed, and his canine teeth became larger, resembling fangs. The serum also further increased his superhuman agility, endurance, speed, and strength.

Afterwards, McCoy left Brand, joined the Avengers, and publicly revealed his dual identity. After years of service with the Avengers (during which he also aided the X-Men against Dark Phoenix), the Beast took it upon himself to reorganize another super-hero group, the Defenders, into a more formal combat organization. His X-Men cohorts Angel and Iceman served in the Defenders along with him, but the team collapsed after a climactic battle in which several other members seemingly perished.

Subsequently, the Beast and his fellow members of the original X-Men formed a new organization, the original X-Factor, which publicly appeared to hunt down allegedly dangerous mutants but secretly taught them how to use their superhuman abilities. Shortly after the formation of X-Factor, the Beast was captured by the geneticist Dr. Carl Maddicks, who performed an experiment that caused the Beast to revert to his original, more human appearance. Some time later, however, the mutagenic powers of the mutant Infectia triggered the Beast's return to his furry, more animalistic appearance.

After Professor Charles Xavier returned to Earth following an extended period in outer space with the Starjammers, the Beast and his fellow X-Factor founders returned to the X-Men. At present the Beast remains an active member of the X-Men as well as serving as a research scientist at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

He has the agility of a great ape and the acrobatic prowess of the most accomplished circus aerialist and acrobat. Ha can walk a tightrope or a slack rope as easily as most people can walk on a sidewalk. He can walk on his hands for many hours, or perform a complicated sequence of gymnastic stunts such as flips, rolls, and springs. He can easily match or top any Olympic record at gymnastics apparatus (such as flying rings, climbing ropes, horizontal bars, trampolines). Further, his manual and pedal dexterity is so great that he can write using both hands at once or tie knots in rope with his toes.

The Beast is fast and able to run on all four at approximately 40 miles per hour for short sprints. His stamina is approximately triple that of a well-trained athlete in his prime. His physiology is durable enough to permit him to take a three-story fall without a broken bone or stain (providing he lands on his feet).

At the time of his further mutation into his present furry form, his metabolism underwent a period of accelerated change. As a side effect, he was able to metabolize and recover from penetration wound to his body within a matter of hours. Since then, his body's metabolism has stabilized and he no longer has quite such a rapid recovery rate. He is still able to recover from a wound at about twice the normal human rate.

Storm/Ororo Munroe

Storm is the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses, all of whom have white hair, blue eyes, and the potential to wield magic. Her mother, N'Dare, was the princess of a tribe in Kenya. She married the American photojournalist David Munroe and moved with him to Manhattan, where Ororo was born.

When Ororo was six months old, she and her parents moved to Cairo, Egypt. Five years later, a bomb destroyed their home. Ororo's parents were killed, but she survived, buried under rubble near her mother's body. This traumatizing effect left Ororo with the severe claustrophobia that still afflicts her today.

Homeless and orphaned, Ororo, came under the tutelage of master thief Achmed el-Gibar. She became his prize pupil in thievery and in picking locks.

Years later, feeling a strong urge to go south, Ororo journeyed alone across the Sahara Desert and finally reached her ancestors' homeland, the Serengeti Plain, which lies in the modern nations of Kenya and Tanzania. By this time her mutant power to control the weather had emerged, and she used them to help the local tribes, who worshipped her as a goddess.

Ororo remained with the tribes for years until Professor Charles Xavier recruited her into the new team of X-Men he was assembling. She was given the code name "Storm" after her power to affect the weather. Except for brief periods away from the team, Storm has remained in the X-Men ever since and shares leadership of the X-Men with Cyclops.

Real Name: Scott Summers

Scott Summers, the older of the two sons of Major Christopher Summers, a pilot in the U. S. Air Force. Major Summers flew with his wife Katherine, and his sons Scott and Alex( a.k.a. as Havoc) back from a vacation in his vintage private plane. During the flight, the plane was attacked and set on fire by a scout ship from the alien Shi'ar Empire. Scott and Alex were pushed out the plane door by her mother with the only available parachutes. The parachute however, was unable to slow their fall that would prevent Scott from suffering a head injury on landing. (The injury damaged the part of Scott's brain that would have enabled him to control his optic blasts.)

The two were separated: Alex was adopted, and Scott remained comatose in a hospital for a year. Their parents were believed dead. (The mere fact, that they were taken as prisoner by the Shi'ar; Katharine died after but Christopher later became Corsair, leader of the Starjammers, a group of interstellar adventurers.)

After his recovery, Scott was placed in an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska that was secretly controlled by his future enemy Mister Sinister. As a teenager, he suffers from severe headaches and eyestrain. He was sent to an eye specialist in Washington, D. C., who discovered that lenses made of ruby quartz corrected the problem. While Scott was visiting a large city, his developing mutant power to project optic force beams bursting towards in an uncontrollable blast that demolished a crane, causing it to drop towards the terrified crowd. Scott saved the crowd by wiping the object out with another blast, but they turned into an angry mob, thinking he tries to kill them. He fled, escaping on a train.

F.B.I. agent Fred Duncan and Professor Charles Xavier unite and joined forces in their attempt to find Scott. A mutant known as Jack O' Diamonds, and later as the Living Diamond, forced the frightened boy to aid him in his crimes. Xavier rescued Scott from the Living Diamond and enlisted him as the first member of the team of young mutants he would teach in using their powers, the X-Men.

As Cyclops, Scott soon became the leader of the Original X-Men. Falling in love to his teammate Jean Grey, although his reserve and his worries about the dangers of his optic beams prevented him for years from expressing his feelings to her. When the other original X-Men left the team, Cyclops stayed on as deputy leader of the "new" X-Men. After the cosmic entity called the Phoenix Force secretly placed Jean in suspended animation and impersonated her, adopting a form identical to hers. When this Phoenix committed suicide, Scott believed that the real Jean had died, then he left the X-Men. Eventually he returned to the team and met and married Madelyne Pryor, a woman who was resemble Jean. Scott was unaware that she was the clone of Jean created by the villain Mister Sinister. Scott and Madelyne had a baby son, named Nathan Christopher, and after that Scott again left the X-Men.

The real Jean Grey emerged from suspended animation. Scott left his wife and joined with Jean and the other original X-Men founding a new team, the original X-Factor. Madelyne went mad, developing new superhuman powers, and died in combat with Jean Grey. Later, Apocalypse infected Nathan with a techno-organic virus. To save his life, Scott was forced to allow a time traveling member of the Askani cult to transport Nathan to the 30th century of an alternate future.

After Professor Xavier returned from a long sojourn in space with the Starjammers, Cyclops and the other X-Factor members rejoined the X-Men. Ever since then Cyclops has remained with the X-Men, sharing deputy leadership with Storm.

Scott and Jean were finally married. While they were on their honeymoon, Mother Askani, leader of the Askani cult, drew their spirits two millennia into an alternate future, where they inhabited new bodies. There, as Slym and Redd, they spent years raising young Nathan into his early adolescence. Then Scott and Jean returned to their own time and bodies, and Nathan remained to grow up into his time's greatest hero, Cable....

Mutant Ability: Possesses the mutant ability to project a blast of powerful, ruby-colored force from his eyes. Cyclops's eyes are no longer the ordinary human eyes but a complex organic jelly that utilizes the visible spectrum of light to see the world around it. When his powers are drained from use he recharges it by the light of the sun.....

Marvel Girl: Jean Grey

Jean Grey, daughter of Professor John Grey of the History Department of Bard College in Annandale-on Hudson, New York, and his wife Elaine. Jean discovered her powers when she was ten years old. When she was playing with her best friend Annie Richardson when Annie was hit by an automobile. The emotion that Jean felt as she held her dying friend awakened her own telepathic powers, and she thus experienced Annie's own emotions as she died. This traumatic occurrence left Jean in a withdrawn and deeply depressed state.

Jean discovered that she could not control her new telepathic abilities, and she isolate herself from other people to keep her sanity. When she was eleven, a psychiatrist recommended to her parents that they must consult a friend named Professor Charles Xavier, who was actually a mutant with telepathic abilities . Xavier explained to Jean, but not to her parents, that she was a mutant, and he treated her for several years. During the time he built psychic shields in Jean's mind so that she could not able to use her telepathic abilities until she achieved the maturity that is necessary for dealing with them. Simultaneously, he taught her how to levitate and manipulate objects through psionic force. When Xavier judged that Jean had reached a certain level of mastery of her telekinetic power, he recommended to her parents that they enroll her in his newly established School for Gifted Youngsters.

Unknown to her parents, this school served as a cover and hide-out for the X-Men, a team of young superhuman mutants that is being trained by Xavier to combat the threats posed by other mutants who used their powers against humanity. Upon entering the school, Jean Grey became the fifth member to join the X-Men and took the code name of Marvel Girl.

Mutant Ability: Jean Grey, a mutant who possesses telekinetic abilities that enables her to levitate, control and manipulate living beings and inanimate objects mentally. The extent status of her powers is not yet known, but it is much greater than it was before her near-death in the space shuttle. She also possessed telepathic powers to read other minds, project her thoughts into the minds of others, and stun the minds of opponents with telepathic "mental bolts." During her revival from her coma-like state, Marvel Girl no longer seems to possess telepathic powers.....
