He looks human, with a small difference : Time Lords have two hearts. He calls himself the Doctor (and just the Doctor), and no one knows his real name. </p> <p>The Doctor usually travels with one or more companions. When the show started in 1963, it was aimed to be educational, so the first companions where teachers in science or history. "Doc" is a cliché representation of the excentric but genious scientist. In the first movie, he presents his latest invention : a car able to travel through time. Marty uses the car to escape Lybian terrorist, and ends up involuntarily un 1955, 30 years in the past. He then tries, with the help of a younger "Doc" to go back to the future. In the process he meets both his parents before they start dating each other, and he end up becoming his own parents match maker. </p> <h3>Time Travel (may contain spoilers)</h3> <p>The car (a DMC De Lorean) use a standard engine, and the time travel is controlled by the <strong>Flux capacitor</strong>, himself powered by 2.21 Giga watts. To be able to travel through time, the DeLorean needs to be running at 88 miles per hour. </p> <p>The time travel let the characters in the movies to change history. In the first movie, Marty's actions in the past change his parents character, and when he gets back to his own time, his whole family has changed.
