Bishop’s Castle’s Business Network were in need of a publicly accessible, searchable showcase of the range of businesses and services available within the area. In conjunction with them, I designed, developed and implemented a fully customisable, administration-enabled, SEO friendly website, the bishopscastle.biz directory.

This website enables users to access detailed information quickly and easily, allows clients to edit, add and change their information, and is fully indexed by all major search engines.

Additionally to the website design, a re-brand was also implemented. The combined effect of these two developments has seen a major increase in traffic and customers.

Enterprise House is the headquarters of the Bishops Castle & District Lifeline Company Limited, Trading under the name Enterprise South West Shropshire. They run a local drop-in IT Centre, a Village Outreach Project and a number of local regeneration projects.

The building houses the Public Library, the Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths, an outpost of the South Shropshire Housing Association, Dial-a-Ride bus service and several private offices.

The Bishops Castle & District Lifeline Company needed a new logo for the building, to both improve public perception of the services they provide, and to maintain a visual presence within the community. The diverse nature of the services that Enterprise House provides meant that the re-branding had to be a very considered process, fulfilling many requirements in a small icon.

The Orange Tree Group run a chain of pubs and bars all over the East Midlands. I was commissioned to produce a poster for one of their many Charity Events. They wanted a period feel to the images, so I produced two options, one with a Victoriana feel, the other looking more Post-War. The Post-War option was chosen to be used for the final poster, and feedback from both client and customers was great.

The Leicester Creative Business Depot required a striking identity for their café/bar. After a poll of their clients had determined the café’s new name, I was given the chance to implement a full rebrand of the café.
Using a simple motif to represent a hot cup of coffee (the lifeblood of any creative business!), the logo referenced the LCB Depot’s existing visual language without appearing apologetic or subsidiary. Accesibility and legibility had to be considered to cater for the café’s wide customer base, and the colour scheme had to consider the existing brand colours, the café furniture, and the industrial history of the space.

The BCCLT wanted a potent promotional campaign, to not only promote their upcoming festival, but also raise awareness of the good work the Land Trust were doing in the area, and to convert viewers into shareholders. Working together, we produced a range of promotional material, including posters, flyers, sign-up forms, and a landing page for their website.

T-shirt design for Threadless design competition. Inspired by Finnish Mythology and symbology, this shirt depicts the mythical land of Lintukoto, an area on the edge of the earth where birds fly for winter.

Submission to the Threadless T-shirt design competition. Inspired by the Xilogravuras (woodblock prints) of Northeastern Brazil, and the Cordel Literature tradition that supports this aesthetic. The illustration depicts a “Repentista” singing verse, accompanied by a percussionist.

theonlyshape is a non-profit magazine focusing on creativity, in whatever form it may take. It covers a broad range of topics, showcases works by talented and underexposed creatives (of any discipline) and also contains reviews/suggestions for worthwhile events/films/exhibitions.

theonlyshape website is based on the gridalicious wordpress theme. The logo was based on the “only shape” concept, choosing a shape that was unambiguous, yet recognizable. The magazine released it’s first issue on the 23rd Jan 2010, to great acclaim from readers and afficionados alike. The second issue is due out at the end of April.

Open to Sound provide goods and services to support and encourage music-making for all ages and abilities; for fun, learning and well-being, with an aim to promote exploration of therapeutic benefits of sound.

Alongside the logotype and branding guidelines, a range of stationary was also designed.
