It’s Friday and I’m just noticing there’s a nice XanGo Cup 2009 video up on XanGo TV. Watch it below for a XanGo- and Latin-flavored summary of the event from start to finish (more than just the match):

And, for good measure, I’ll just add a couple impressions from Wednesday’s MLS All-Star Game that Real Salt Lake hosted in Rio Tinto Stadium:

1. As an RSL fan, Conor Casey should probably never get my praise, but I am often impressed with him. The All-Star Game was especially impressive in my eyes. As a back-to-goal forward, he brought down and distributed nearly every flighted ball that came his direction—against some pretty sizable Everton players. And his pass to Holden (and consequently to Davis for the goal) was precise. I’m not sure why (there could be valid reasons) he doesn’t seem to get more credit. I feel like he does American soccer proud.

2. I admittedly hadn’t watched much of Freddie Ljungberg this season, and I kinda just assumed he was the poor man’s Beckham (that’s what I get for taking preseason speculation to heart). After watching him burn around Rio Tinto I am no longer surprised at the inaugural success of Seattle. He controlled the midfield (all of it) very nicely.

Enjoy the weekend, and let’s hope the second half of the season (which starts for RSL tomorrow in Chicago) is one to remember.

The Canadian press has proudly taken notice of two of its home-grown entrepreneurs who have built something globally significant from their new home in the United States. The magazine taking notice is Canadian Business, the two home-grown entrepreneurs are Joe & Gordon Morton and the globally significant “something” they’ve built is, of course, XANGO.

As we head into another weekend, we thought we’d take a look back at last weekend’s big event—XanGo Cup 2009: Real Salt Lake vs. Club de Fútbol América. But before the game could be played, the guests of honor needed to be here: Raul Villegas, Mateo de Regil and Rodrigo Sepúlveda.

With the fans all in place, with the sun shining—and with Gordon Morton calling the coin toss—XanGo Cup 2009 was on! All who attended will count themselves lucky to have seen RSL get their second XanGo Cup victory off of a beautiful bending goal from Javier Morales.

Last Goal Wins

After Saturday night’s tie game against our Rocky Mountain Rivals, the Colorado Rapids, I was musing with a friend about the difference between a come-from-behind draw and a fall-from-ahead draw—and I decided that at least from an emotional standpoint, when it comes to a tie game, the last goal wins. And unfortunately for us, this wasn’t it:

In fact, one of my favorite RSL games of all time was a draw. It was Jason Kreis’ managerial debut and Clint Mathis scored 2 goals—playing for the hated New York Red Bulls. Watch the highlights and find the difference between last weekend’s draw this draw of 2 years ago.

P.S. Here’s hoping Saturday’s goal unshackled Yura’s scoring foot for the remainder of the season.
