FeraLab has been providing some great support for the Xperia X10 for a while now and a few days ago it released version one of its Jelly Bean custom ROM. The firmware is based on CyanogenMod 10 (Android 4.1.2). Users are reporting that it is one of the best Jelly Bean ROMs available for the device, being both fast and stable. It’s great to see the Xperia X10 continue to be supported so well with near enough the latest Android versions. Check out a video of this ROM on the X10 below.

However, we’re sure that there is still a fair few of you still using the Xperia X10 who don’t feel the need to change. There remains a great community around the Xperia X10 which is keeping the phone fresh in this age of dual-core and quad-core phones.

Who is still using an Xperia X10? Does it still suit your needs or will you try and replace it as soon as possible? If you’re looking for a new handset, will you go for Sony again or something else entirely? Let us know in the comments below.

However, those in Brazil are only just starting to receive the update. To make matters worse, Sony Ericsson is telling owners that the update can only be completed by SE technicians. That means users have to send their handset to Sony Ericsson to upgrade their handset.

The service is free thankfully and the company promises that it should take around seven calendar days to complete. We’re not entirely sure why the handset would need to be sent back, especially given that everyone else around the world could upgrade their X10 to Gingerbread using PC Companion or SEUS. If anyone has any ideas let us know in the comments below.

Thanks Crispim!

The list compromises “devices that pose the most serious security and privacy risk to consumers and corporations“. The most vulnerable device is the Samsung Galaxy Mini according to the report, with the HTC Desire in second place.

I’m unsure of the exact methodology Bit9 use to determine which phones are most vulnerable but the version of Android and timeliness of updates appears to play a part. They suggest this means that “security vulnerabilities are not being maintained, bugs are not being patched, and loopholes in your system are being left open“. The last firmware for the X10 was 2.3.3 and the latest from Google is 2.3.7 (ignoring ICS for now). This seems a bit harsh to us considering that the 2011 Xperia line-up is only on Android 2.3.4. We’re sure Bit9 is talking its own book here but the infographic below is an interesting read nonetheless.

Recognised developer zdzihu says that this is a “very early build” where “most of the stuff does not work”. What does work is the radio, calls, SMS, bluetooth, GPS and wireless is “almost working”. Mobile data is also kind of working but seems to disconnect when it gets the IP address.

This alpha ROM certainly is not stable enough to be used on a daily basis (that’s the whole point of an alpha release), however if you want to test it out and leave some feedback then there’s no harm in giving it a try. Either way this is great work from the devs. Sony Ericsson is unlikely to release ICS for the Xperia X10, so this is the first step on the path to a stable ICS custom ROM. Click through for a couple of video demos of the new ICS X10 ROM.

The downtime we have experienced since October 18th was unfortunate but necessary whilst we were in communication with Sony Ericsson to resolve this matter.

Sony Ericsson contacted us to let us know that it appreciates our support of its products and the efforts we have put into developing these blogs. They also appreciate the engagement of blogs like these and consumers who visit these sites. Sony Ericsson dropped the initial complaint and we have instead reached an agreement so that we can keep the domain names and continue to work on the site. Just to reassure you, there will be no change to our editorial independence under this arrangement. We will continue to give you our honest opinion about Sony Ericsson’s strategy and its smartphones.

We would like to thank all of our readers for your overwhelming support. Many people got in touch or left comments in support of our work. We apologise for the absence of any updates for the last few weeks (this was necessary in order for negotiations to progress) but we will strive to continue where we left off – covering the latest Sony Ericsson Xperia news and reviews to the best of our ability.

The recent news regarding Sony’s acquisition of Ericsson’s stake in the Sony Ericsson joint venture leaves us even more excited about developments for the company’s future smartphones. Thankfully, we will now be there sharing our thoughts through every step of the journey.

Sony Ericsson has filed a formal complaint about the use of the trademarked ‘Xperia’ name in our domain name and have requested that the domain names, including that of XperiaBlog.net, be transferred to them.

Sony Ericsson is alleging that we have used the domain names in “bad faith”. We are stunned and disappointed that Sony Ericsson, a company that we have spent much of our free personal time in promoting, especially the Xperia brand, has decided to take this formal action against us. After all we are just like you, passionate Sony Ericsson users, who have strived to bring the community breaking news and an independent viewpoint.

We do not have the resources to fight Sony Ericsson on this and therefore this is the last you will hear from us. Sony Ericsson has made great strides in its Xperia portfolio, especially in listening to the community. This makes it all the more confusing as to why Sony Ericsson would want to shut us down. We genuinely believe that 2012 could be a bumper year for the company, we just wish we could have been there along for the ride.

All the best.

The website product page for the Xperia X8 claims that the handset has a standby battery time of 446 hours.

The person who made the complaint felt this claim was a bit fishy, despite the companies ‘disclaimer’ that “battery performance may vary depending on network conditions and configuration, and phone usage”. The complainant said that numbers should represent some idea of real-life usage.

Sony Ericsson countered that this battery life was indeed possible in a ‘laboratory environment’ but conceded that “when any mobile phone was used in real life, the actual standby time could be considerably lower”.

The ASA upheld the complaint as the claim needed to be qualified saying that this maximum level was theoretical. It therefore found the claim misleading and has ordered the company to change this on the website. As of writing it is still up here and here. It’s a bit harsh to single out Sony Ericsson as all manufacturers do this, however let’s hope this leads to more sensible battery life numbers from across the industry.
