How time flies when you’re having fun! May has arrived and the recital is almost here. Lot’s of important news below regarding upcoming events and the 1st Annual Summer Program at Xpressions Dance Academy. SUMMER DANCE REGISTRATION: Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday's beginning on June 11th and will run through August 1st. Summer is a fun time to try out a new dance style and it's important to maintain your dance skills and flexibility. You can find the schedule and enrollment form on our website. FALL SCHEDULE: Classes will begin September 3rd and online enrollment will be available in early August. As we move into the next season the focus will be changing. We are creating a NEW and exciting direction for 2013-2014 and will be traveling forward in the direction of a Community focused Performing Studio, rather than as a competitive company. All enrolled dancers in any style will be matched with other dancers at their own level in their classes. During the first month of classes our faculty will make sure all dancers are placed in the correct class to motivate, push and grow them both physically and emotionally so they will reach their highest potential. We will do many more local, community performances. Classes will be chosen and asked to perform in such events as Women's Fitness Challenge, Festival of Trees, Sports events, Retirement homes, and many more. We will be having Dance Movie Nights for our students! There are many great films and musicals that have much to offer dance students. Bring on the Silver Screen to educate and entertain all those who would like to attend. Master Classes- We will also host visiting teachers to share their talent and expertise during the season as well. There will be numerous levels from beginning to advanced and planned ahead of time for sign-ups. DISNEYLAND!! We are planning to attend the "Dance The Magic Event" in Summer 2014 for the 2nd time. We are hoping with this new direction more dancers will have the opportunity to experience performing. Class Pictures – Friday May 17th & Saturday May 18th A photo schedule was sent home & is on our website. Photo packets with details & pricing will be available at the studio the week of May 6th. You must bring the completed forms (one for each dance class) with your payment to the photo session. Recital Tickets Tickets for dancer's family will go on sale beginning on Monday, May 6th during regular studio hours, Mon., Tues, Wed. from 4:30 to 7:30 and Thurs. from 5:30 to 8:00pm. See the Recital Information flyer that was distributed to each dancer for details (also available on our website). Dress Rehearsal - Friday May 31st at the Nampa Civic Center A Dress Rehearsal schedule will be distributed. Please arrive 10 minutes earlier than your scheduled time in your costume. All dancers will be assigned to a dressing room & learn how to enter & exit the stage. Each dance number will be performed at least 2 times & you are welcome to take photos & videos. This is a great time to bring young siblings who might not enjoy sitting through a long recital. Opening Number Rehearsal – Sat. June 1st at the Nampa Civic Center 9 to 11am ALL dance classes, except Tiny Toes, must attend this special rehearsal for the Recital Opening Number. We have reserved this extra time on the stage, so please be on time so we can start promptly at 9am. This is a CLOSED rehearsal – no parents or spectators will be allowed in the auditorium. Dancers will be receiving their Recital t-shirt soon & they are welcome to make fun changes if they would like to their shirt – add 'bling', trim off sleeves/collar, braid, tie, etc. – check out 'youtube' for fun ideas. Please no changing colors or writing on shirts. They will wear their shirt with black dance pants or shorts for the Opening number. Dance Recital – Saturday, June 1st at the Nampa Civic Center All dancers to be backstage with ALL of their costumes & hair/make-up done 30 minutes prior to Recital time. Dancers are welcome to bring non-messy snacks & water (no juice drinks). Tiny Toes & Kinder dancers will be brought backstage by our older dancers so parents can find a seat in the auditorium. The Tiny Toes & Kinder dancers may join you in the auditorium after their performance & sit on your lap unless you have purchased a seat for them. Backstage Volunteers We are hoping to have some mother volunteers to help with the classes backstage during the recitals. You can come & enjoy your dancer's show & then help out backstage at the other show. Please see sign-up sheet at the front desk. Recital DVD Order forms are available at the studio for the Recital DVD for $35. The DVD will include both the Matinee and the Evening recitals. The DVD's will be available at the studio no later than July 15th. Summer Dance Classes Check the website for information on our 8-week Summer Dance Classes beginning the week of June 10th. Company Auditions A meeting will be held on Tues., June 4th for all dancers & families interested in auditioning for the Xpressions Company 2013-14 season. We will be sharing the Company goals, audition process & the time & financial commitments required of Company members. An outline of the mandatory summer classes & a preliminary estimate of the cost for each Company will be available. Auditions will be held June 5th & 6th at the studio. Hope your Spring Break was fun and restful. Mark your calendars for the 5th annual Xpressions Dance Academy Spring Recital on Saturday, June 1st! Below are some reminders and some important events. ATTENDANCE: Please make class attendance a priority. It is very important that your dancers be in class every week as they are working hard on technique & their recital dances. Only a fever or the flu should keep them home & please let us know if they will be absent. The teachers will be posting the recital dances on Shutterfly this year so the dancers can practice at home. XPRESSIONS DANCE RECITAL- “Dancing Across the USA” RECITAL: Saturday, June 1st at the Nampa Civic Center. There will be a Matinée & an Evening show. Dress Rehearsal will be held Friday, May 31st & the Opening Number Rehearsal will be held the morning of June 1st, also at the Nampa Civic Center. Both rehearsals are Mandatory! The performance schedule is posted at the studio and a flyer will be sent home in early May with the rehearsal schedule. RECITAL PICTURE DAY: Friday & Saturday, May 17th & 18th at the studio. The Recital costumes will be handed out in early May along with information about hair style, shoes, tights, etc. A photo time will be assigned for each dance class & this schedule will be posted at the studio. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes earlier than your scheduled time in costume with hair & make-up finished. ProMotion Photography will have photo packets with details & pricing at the studio in mid-May. Please bring the completed form with your check to the photo session. Purchasing pictures is not mandatory, but we would like to have your dancer in the group photos that are displayed at the studio. Pictures will be available for pick-up at the Recital. RECITAL TICKETS: Beginning on Monday, May 6th, Recital tickets will be available for pre-purchase to each dancer's family (4 per family/6 for families with 2 or more dancers). These family tickets will sell for $8 per ticket (check or cash only). If your dancer is only performing in one show, your tickets will be for that show. Otherwise, you will have 2 tickets available for each show. These tickets can be exchanged for a different show as long as there are available seats. Beginning on Monday, May 20th, any remaining tickets (including the family tickets that haven't been sold) will be available to purchase. These tickets will be sold for $9 (check or cash only). RECITAL BEARS: We are so excited to have the Recital Bears for purchase again this year. Commemorate your dancers' recital with a custom bear. The deadline for ordering is May 2nd. Remember - the bear outfits will fit your "Build-A-Bear' & you can just purchase the Recital outfit! MISCELLANEOUS: There is space available in the 2012 Recital Program to advertise your business or to celebrate your dancer with a "Good Luck" message! Please contact us for more information. Looking forward to the end of the cold weather and hopefully, the end of the cold and flu season that has been hanging around way too long! BALLET EXAMS: Congratulations to all of the dancers who participated in the Ballet Exams. Miss Alexis, Miss Chris & Dr. Afshin Mofid were very impressed with the skill level & professionalism of our students. The dancers have learned a lot this season & they are continuing to progress weekly. Ballet technique requires a focus & discipline that will grow as they mature & continue practicing their ballet skills. Remember, the exams were NOT a test, but a guide to help you & your dancer see the progress they are making. A make-up Exam for those who were unable to attend will be held on March 15th. CLASS ATTENDANCE: Please make it a priority to be at class every week. All classes have begun learning their performance routines for the Recital & it is very unproductive for the class to start over every week because dancers were missing. If they are ill, please try to get with another class member to catch-up. IMPORTANT DATES Please update your calendars and share this with your family and friends! Monday, March 25th thru Friday, March 29th - Spring Break - No classes. May 17th & May 18th. Class pictures. A time schedule will be published as the date gets closer. Thursday, May 30th - Last day of classes for this season. NO Watch Week will be held in May. Friday, May 31st - Recital Dress Rehearsal – (time to TBD). Saturday, June 1st - Matinee & Evening Recitals (times TBD). Most classes will be performing in both shows. See Show Performance list in the studio lobby. RECITAL TICKETS- NO RECITAL PACKAGE FEE THIS YEAR! Beginning on Monday, May 6th, Recital tickets will be available for pre-purchase for each dancer's family (4 per family/6 for families with 2 or more dancers). These family tickets will sell for $8 per ticket (check or cash only). If your dancer is only performing in one show, your tickets will be for that show. Otherwise, you will have 2 tickets available for each show. These tickets can be exchanged for a different show as long as there are available seats. 2013 has flown in fast, furious and freezing!! I hope your families had a wonderful holiday. The staff and I are looking forward to the upcoming months. We love sharing our passion for dance and know this New Year will bring more great memories. BALLET EXAMS -This is a new program for us and we want to make sure that it's perfect. We will be moving the class Ballet Exams to Saturday, February 9th. Please keep your eyes open for a handout we will be sending home regarding what your dancer will need to work on and the sign-up information. These exams are NOT a test but a guide to help you and your dancer see the progress they are making in class and an opportunity to earn their next Bun Cover☺ JAZZ HANDS! - Thank you to all who participated in our Jazz Hands Xtend Warm Hearts service event. We delivered 50 pairs of mittens and gloves to the Nampa Family Crisis Center. They were so pleased and appreciative and it was so nice to help so many people. We look forward to some other helpful community projects in the future. CLASS DRESS CODE - With classes starting up again on January 7th, just a friendly reminder to have your dancer properly dressed for all classes. Leotard, tights, ballet shoes and hair in a bun is required for ballet and this dress code will be strictly enforced. Jazz pants/booty shorts, tight fitting top and jazz shoes are required for jazz. IMPORTANT! If your dancer is not properly dressed for class we reserve the right to have them sit out of class that day and you will be notified. LOST AND FOUND - All Lost and Found items from the past 4 months have been donated to the Idaho Youth Ranch. Please monitor your dancer's bag so nothing gets left behind. With coat season upon us, please make sure your dancer does not leave without theirs or they won't have it for school the next day. There are Sharpies at the front desk - Please label all dance shoes & clothing. RECITAL DANCES - All classes will begin work on their Recital dances this month. Attendance is very important during this time. If you have a dancer who will be absent for any reason, please call the studio (466-1229) and leave a message. FREEZE FRAME ANNUAL PERFORMANCE - As members of Boise Dance Teachers Association, the Xpressions Dance Academy Company members will be performing at the annual scholarship show, "Freeze Frame" on Saturday, January 26th at Mountain View High School. Please see the poster in the lobby for show times and prices. This is a great opportunity to see 13 different studios perform and all proceeds go to helping dancers attend CSI Dance camp and a dance workshop in the fall. MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY - Classes WILL be held on Monday, January 21st . With the New Year upon us we are so excited to bring your dancers more dance education and fun!! Counting down to the holidays! We're dancing into 2013 & it's been an amazing season! WINTER COLDS & FLU SEASON: Thank you for keeping your dancers home when they're ill. We typically have numerous classes they can use to make-up a missed class. JAZZ HANDS X-TEND WARM HEARTS: Please pick up a new pair of gloves or mittens when you're shopping and help fill the Christmas gift box this year. We delivered over 100 pairs last year to he Women's and Children's Crisis Center of Nampa and we would love to beat that number this season. Thanks for your generosity & your Warm Heart! FESTIVAL OF TREES: What a huge success! Thank you teachers and families for your support and to our dancers for such a wonder show! Your time & talents are truly appreciated ! WATCH WEEK: December 17th thru 21st is Watch Week. A parent is welcome to set in on your dancer's class and see how hard they work and how much they've learned this dance season. And you will get to enjoy their Holiday dances again! LOST & FOUND: Please check out the 'Lost and Found' box when you bring your dancer to class. It is overflowing with shoes, jackets and coats! RECITAL COSTUME: The Recital Costume fees will be included in your automatic tuition payment on December 5th. We will be measuring the dancers this month and the costumes will be ordered over the Christmas break to make sure they will be delivered by mid-April. Remember, costumes cannot be returned or canceled. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY: Xpressions Dance will be CLOSED for the Christmas Holidays from December 24th thru January 5th. WATCH WEEK: Don't forget the next Watch Week is Nov. 26th – 30th. A parent is invited to observe the last class of every month. It is very important that there are minimal distractions for the dancers and teachers, so please do not bring your other children. This is a regular class and part of your student's dance curriculum, so it's important that they can focus and learn. Since you have more opportunities to watch this year we're hoping that Mom and Dad can come and observe on different months so you can both enjoy the experience. REFERRAL REWARDS: Referral Reward credits were awarded to the accounts of 15 Xpressions Dance families this month. It's not too late to take advantage of this great program and share the excitement of dance with your friends! When you refer a new student to Xpressions, you will receive a $20 tuition credit. But hurry, the program ends in December! See our website for all of the details! FESTIVAL OF TREES: Xpressions Dance Academy will be performing at the Boise Festival of Trees on Friday, November 23rd at 3:15pm. The dancers and teachers are working hard on their routines and it will be a fun, exciting show! You should have received information via email about the 'YouTube' practice videos for the Festival dances. All performance information has been emailed to the families. JAZZ HANDS X-TEND WARM HEARTS: We are excited to be holding this special event for the 4th year! We have collected over 300 pairs of mittens and gloves thanks to the generosity of our dancers. A Christmas box will be in the lobby beginning the week of Nov. 26th for your donation of a pair of new, warm gloves or mittens, any size or style. All of the gloves and mittens will be donated to the Women's & Children's Alliance of Nampa. Thank you for your generosity and your Warm Heart! THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY: We will be CLOSED for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday, November 22nd and Friday, November 23rd. No regular classes on those days. RECITAL COSTUMES REMINDER: The Recital Costume fee is due in December and will be included with your automatic tuition payment on December 5th. The costume fee is $50 for youth sizes and $60 for adult sizes. A dancer will receive one costume for each dance class, so if they take a jazz class and a ballet class there will be 2 costume fees. DECEMBER PERFORMANCES: Several retirement homes have contacted us about providing some entertainment at their facility during the Christmas season. We are excited to be able to share our dances with them during this Holiday Season and will be sending out more information soon. BALLET EXAMS: Goals were established for each Ballet class at the beginning of our dance season and the dancers have been working hard on reaching them this season. The first Ballet exam to assess the dancer's progress will be held on Saturday, January 12th at the studio. The teachers will decide if your Ballet student is ready to take the exam and an individual time schedule will be sent out. Although the Ballet exam is not mandatory, they are highly recommended. The periodic testing provides your dancer with a goal to work towards and a sense of accomplishment when they reach that goal. Xpressions Dance is off to a fabulous start! This season is already flying by and we are all having a fabulous time sharing our love and passion with your dancers. Thank you for this amazing opportunity. NEW HIP-HOP CLASSES: Due to our other classes being full and an overwhelming waiting list, beginning next Friday, October 12th we will be adding another Mini Hip-Hop (ages 5-8) and Hip-Hop II (ages 8-11) class to our dance schedule. Mini Hip-Hop will be 5:00 – 5:45pm and Hip-Hop II will be 5:45 – 6:30pm. Miss Miranda is very excited to be teaching these classes and can't wait for them to start. Let all of your friends know and refer them to our website at www.xdadance.com for more information. Remind them to put you down as a referral also. ☺ WATCH WEEK: This month's Watch Week will be October 22nd – 25th. Parents are invited into the studio to observe a class where you may observe how your dancer's skills are improving and any choreography the class has been working on. In addition, you'll get a great sense for how your dancer's class is structured. During Watch Weeks please do not bring other children, no exceptions! Space is very limited and children can be disruptive to the class in progress. During Watch Weeks you are allowed to video tape and take pictures. Watch Weeks can cause extra congestion in the parking lot, so please plan accordingly. Wiggle Time, Tiny Toes, Kinder Combo and 1st Grade Ballet/Jazz classes are welcome to come dressed in their costumes this week. They will need to be able to wear their dance shoes during class time. All other classes are welcome to wear holiday theme clothing if they would like (i.e. Orange socks, Halloween t-shirts etc.). There will be treats for every class J HALLOWEEN!!: Halloween is on Wednesday, October 31st and we WILL NOT be holding classes!! You will receive a Make-Up Class Coupon through email to use in any comparable class. FLU SEASON PRECAUTIONS: We're doing all we can to keep the flu bugs from spreading and would appreciate your help. There are hand-sanitizer pump bottles available at the front desk and in both studios. Please encourage your children to use them before and after class. We are cleaning the ballet bars, door handles and light switches with sanitizing wipes daily. Please remind your dancers to wash their hands after using the bathroom and to sneeze/cough into their elbow to stop the spread of these seasonal germs. Welcome back Dancers! Summer sure went by in a blink but we are all very excited to be back. Below is some important information as we start the beginning of a new dance season. 2012-2013 DANCE CLASS SCHEDULE The class schedule for the coming season is on our website & you can complete your enrollment form online. Remember, Xpressions is paperless – tuition is automatically charged to your debit or credit card on the 5th of each month. We are pleased to offer this paperless payment method for the ease & convenience of our busy families. CLASSES BEGIN ON TUESDAY, SEPT 4TH Please try to make attendance a priority this year. Classroom doors will be closed when class begins & dancers will need to enter quietly & ask for the teacher's permission before joining the class. If a dancer is more than 15 minutes late they may be asked to sit out. DANCE ATTIRE AND SHOES Parents have asked us for information on where they can purchase dance clothing & shoes. "Love 2 Dance" in Meridian will be attending our Open House on Monday & Tuesday Aug. 27th & 28th from 5:00 to 8:00pm. They will have a selection of dance shoes & dancewear for you to try on and order. They are hoping to have your items available for the first week of dance. WATCH WEEKS – New Policy! Parents are invited into the studio to observe a class the last week of every month beginning in October. You will see how your dancer's skills are improving & any choreography the class has been working on. In addition, you'll get a great sense of how your dancer's class is structured. The Tiny Toes, Kinder Combo and Ballet/Jazz I classes will be performing only ONCE at either the Matinee or Evening show. A flyer will be sent home in early May with the time of your performance & the rehearsal schedule. All other dancers will be performing at BOTH shows. RECITAL PICTURE DAY: Saturday, May 19th at the studio. Photo sessions will begin at 10:30am & finish about 4 pm. The Recital costumes will be handed out in early May along with information about hair style, shoes, tights, etc. A photo time will be assigned for each dance class & this schedule will be posted at the studio.
