When we think of Internet marketing, the word "backlink"
doesn't automatically come to mind. In fact, most
people who aren't involved with a website would not
even know what a backlink means. To put it simply,
a backlink is any URL link from another website that
will take web surfers directly to your website.

So, a backlink is like a business card
(in the form of an Internet address) that you gave to
someone who then refers other people back to you.
Using this metaphor, one can see that the more backlinks
you get the more business you get too.

However, that's not the sole reason why backlinks
are important in Internet marketing.

While a backlink is a type of referral, it also
can be a measure of your website's reputation.
This is why major search engines use backlinks in
their search algorithms. They catalogue the number
of backlinks and the strength of the people who are
backlinking to your site and use this in their algorithm
to determine how well you rank amongst other sites that
deal with your website niche.

Using backlinks you can raise the visibility of your
site by getting your site highly ranked in the search engine.
This, in turn, will lead to more people visiting your site
and thus more business.

As if that weren't enough, the backlinks are also used
to determine the worth of the website should you decide
to sell the domain later. So, backlinks can turn into
dollar signs, even if your site happens to be a blog,
instead of a full website. That's how powerful backlinks are!

NOT ALL BACKLINKS ARE THE SAME

Being the Internet, of course, nothing is as straightforward
as it seems. It's simplistic to suggest that anything that
is a backlink will enhance your site's value or search
engine ranking.

Tech wizards invented the Internet, and many of those
geek geniuses ended up in search engine companies.

So, even though a standard HTML URL is easy enough to
understand (once you get the hang of it), search engine
optimization is quite intricate and often a very secretive
business.

After all, if we knew exactly the algorithms that major
companies use to rank the sites in their listings, than
anyone could fool a search engine and the entire industry
would collapse overnight.

So, while you can learn as much as you want about how to
code a backlink, you probably won't get the finer points
of which backlinks are worth more than others to your

A good business name, as well as descriptions on the homepage, should explain and emphasize what kind of products and services you are selling. The reason why this is crucial is simple: studies have shown that, in search queries, people will be mainly looking for the "type" of business you are and not you personally. It is not that don't like you, they may just not be aware of you yet.

The more self explanatory your business name is, the quicker it will be picked up by search engines. Just put yourself in the shoes of your audience and envision what you would type into a query if you were looking for a baby gift. Ask yourself, which of the following names would trigger the most hits: ‘Sally's boutique', or ‘Sally's unique baby gift boutique'?

As you can see, a business name and its online title tags - the words in a browser's title bar - are indeed important. That's what search engines look for when they calculate the rankings in their listings. Put as much pertinent information as possible in those tags, including your specialty and what distinguishes you from your competition.

Switching to, or adding an online venture does not mean that you have to give up your existing business name completely. Mentioning it in logos, footers, articles and your "About us" page will pull up your website when the few people who are familiar with your store will type in its name during a search.

Having a catchy, yet explanatory business name is one way to get noticed by search engines. Here are 8 more tricks that can increase your search engine visibility.

1.Research business related keywords. Placing the right words on your homepage is vital if you want to hit the spotlight. For example, "Welcome to my homepage" sounds friendly and inviting, but it will not stand out when search engines are eagerly looking for American silver bullion coins. In this case, "Welcome to my stamps and coin shop" would have increased your chances to get noticed drastically.

2. Title tags and body text versus meta tags. Meta tags are special HTML tags which are used to store information about your Web page. They also give a brief summary of your site and store keywords you think people will use to find your site. Title tags, body text and mega tags are all keys that will help you get noticed. Because they all play a different roll in the website construction, they should all get an equal amount of attention and keywords should be represented strongly in all.

3.Important keywords get priority. Internet users are impatient and tend to scroll. If you want to grab their attention you will have to place your most important keywords right in the first paragraphs of your content, and not just on the homepage, but on all your pages. Explain right from the start what the page they landed on is all about and do not forget to refer to the other pages of your website.

4. Human-based directories versus spider-based engines. Human-based directories such as Yahoo and LookSmart are controlled by humans, while search engines such as Google, Fast Search and Alta Vista use high-tech "spider" technology to crawl across the Web to gather information, such as matching keywords to queries. Despite this difference, they all measure link popularity and determine the ranking of your pages on their listings. If you want to get noticed, make sure your website gets picked up by the most reputable and established directories, such as Google, Yahoo and MSN as soon as possible.

5.Search engine friendly web designs. Designing a search engine friendly website means that you have to allow easy access to search engine crawlers, also referred to as spiders and robots. You can control how Web crawlers index your site by adding a simple text file that specifies instructions for a large number of pages on your site or adding text links at the bottom of all your website pages.

6. Powerful directory submissions. When filing your directory submissions make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Your site descriptions have to be factually accurate and you have to employ as many keywords as possible. This is vital, because you will not get a second chance to do it right. 7. Upgrade your side frequently. Monitor all your pages closely and make changes according to the needs of your audience. If you notice your visitors like a particular page, add more of them. Q&A Time:
Question is… Does it benefit you to add your link into the site portion of the traffic exchange more than once?

Answer is… no. The script looks at user id and then links. When it encounters the same url from the same user in the que, it will skip over the duplicate. Example: You enter one url and get 100 hits a day. Enter in the exact same url, now you will still get 100 hits but it will be spread out on the 2 exact same urls: 50 hits each. Enter in 3 duplicates, hits are divided by 3 and so on.

When you start surfing, the script tells you how many sites are available. These are only the active sites in our system and does not reflect the sites coming in from VS-Ten. We send sites to VS-10, and they send sites to us. Example: Friday we sent 2959 pageviews of our members sites to VS-Ten, and brought in 2047 pageviews from other traffic exchanges. Bottomline: you surf more than whatever the site total listed on the Surf page.

Q&A Time:
I have had some questions regarding what Xtream Members really is. One of them is: ‘Are you a traffic exchange or what?’ The answer is: Yes, but…. Lol. We actually lean towards ‘the what’ side of that question.

The traffic exchange is but a tiny (yet powerful) aspect of Xtream Members. It is a fantastic tool for getting hits and traffic to your websites and eye-balls to see your ads. Tuesday Live Webinar Summary:
We had a good size group in for our Tuesday 9pm training which was an Introduction into some of the advertising features found on site. Features include:

Traffic exchange for sites
Text Ads for onsite and exchange
Banner and Mini Banner ads for onsite and exchange
Digital Products

We toured the Traffic exchange, text, and banner ads features and looked at your Promotional Materials. Some materials are straight forward, site referral links, splash pages, banners, and mini-banners. Simply copy the working link and place on all types of advertising venues.

On Thursday we will continue and look at other features like posting ads to outside adboards, finding email resources, more traffic, Building Blocks, WIN, and etc. Again, it is not an in-depth training. It is an introduction and overview of your many resources.

Note: I will not do a lot of in-depth training on the traffic exchange portion of our service, TrEx, or VS-10 as Rich and Andy Wooten present that material on Saturdays and Sundays 12noon and 4pm eastern. They will not meet this weekend, but will the next. I highly recommend you attend those sessions.

Important Note:
On the traffic exchange module in Xtreammembers, we are very different in one aspect. Unlike other exchanges, I highly encourage you to put your Xtream Members links in the traffic exchange. Why? Simple. Our exchange is linked to VS-Ten. Your sites, banners, and text ads are seen at closing in on 200 other traffic exchanges. So what? Well, these are new things you can SELL. These are going to be available as both a stand-alone product, and as a module-upgrade for VS-TrEx sites. The same commission lines still hold, so it's money in your pocket.

We're going to change the pricing scheme slightly, as I learn more about real-world marketing. One problem we've been having is that VS-TrEx (the traffic exchange) is our sole product. We're going to break this into some pieces, so that VS-TrEx stands as the 'middle priced' product, which makes selling it easier… more on this next issue…

Okay, I don't have a horse, so I'm not Paul Revere, but still,wanting to update VS-TrEx affiliates about what's happening.

Item 1: 2.0 is finalized, and upgrades will start on Wednesday evening. I'm still tweaking a conversion script, but with a little luck, all validated TrEx sites will be on 2.0 within about 2 weeks (only so many hours in the day).

Item 2: This is a biggie. We've finally got the module layout figured out, and our first 3 modules are in pilot sites now!

epLibrary: electronic product library system
The first pilot to go live is Xtream Global Marketing Resource directory. The module is called epLibrary, and it provides a powerful tool for distributing downloads to members. Members at different levels have access to different files... all can see the files, but some files may require an upgrade, or even a direct purchase. It includes a member-voting and house-ranking system, and is searchable and groupable.

First things first: I would suggest you go to the pilot site, which has a HUGE digital library (over 1500 files, growing by many more each week).

We had a great meeting Sunday. Rich Parker took us on a quick introduction tour of our new home at the Xtream Members back office. We will have detailed training for the next two weeks on all the systems so everyone can get full benefit from all the features, bells, and whistles. Some highlights:

This tool will be totally in-house and will not involve external email, thus avoiding all the issues associated with that type of communications. (Such as spam, spam complaints, non delivery of email, blocked email, and etc.) Members will log into their back offices to pick up and read their messages. While every member will receive messages, only Admin and the Upgraded Affiliates will be able to send messages.

All existing referral and system-generated Splash pages have been redirected to the new system. This means you will not have to worry about changing or pulling down your old system-generated links. We had a great meeting today and Rich Parker took us on a quick introduction tour of our new home and Xtream Members back office. We will have detailed training for the next two weeks on all the systems so everyone can get full benefit from all the features, bells, and whistles. Some highlights:

We will be adding Products for individual sale. Members earn commissions based on membership level.

While not in place yet, we have an onboard, in-house messaging system coming online in a few weeks. This will allow upgraded members to communicate with their downlines and teams on a regular basis. The idea is to put in your hands as many resources possible for you to build your Network Marketing Businesses and build your list. This tool will be totally in-house and will not involve external email, thus avoiding all the issues associated with that type of communications. (Such as spam, spam complaints, non delivery of email, blocked email, and etc.) Members will log into their back offices to pick up and read their messages. While every member will receive messages, only Admin and the Upgraded Affiliates will be able to send messages.

All existing referral and system-generated Splash pages have been redirected to the new system. This means you will not have to worry about changing or pulling down your old system-generated links. Countdown to the Xtream Business Systems launch: TODAY!

All members meeting today, Sunday, 3pm Eastern in the RC. We will introduce you to your new back office and your Xtream business system. Rich Parker of Varisearch will introduce the basics of your new back office.

This is an introduction session only, and we can only meet for 1 hour. At 4pm Rich and Andy Wooten hold a meeting at 4pm eastern. While it is primarily aimed at VS-Ten participants, they will answer other questions as many aspects of the VS-Ten and TrEx scripts are a part of our new Membership Site and Digital Download Library.

Over the course of the next few weeks we will hold more indepth training during our Xtream sessions. Rich and Andy Wooten have agreed to answer questions and support the Xtream team during their Week end sessions in their Conference Rooms. The 12 noon eastern sessions are especially good for member questions. The 4pm sessions are geared towards TrEx and VS-Ten Traffic Exchange or other Varisearch script owners and Admins.

Andy Wooten has agreed to assist me in setting up the traffic exchange aspect of our new Membership site, as well as managing some additional Member features. He will also be active in other aspects of our business. We will cover this and more in tomorrow's meeting.

WOWZA!!
That is the only word I can say following the set up meeting I just had with Rich Parker. Everyone will be absolutely blown away by the scope of our new Xtream Business System – which is in fact an Online Marketing Super Store. Besides having links to all our existing programs, besides housing all our digital products, besides housing the desktop goodies, it will ALSO provide:

An onboard TrEx traffic exchange plugged into the VS-Ten system
An onboard banner and text advertising system
Emailer (for now)
Network capabilities
Other bells and whistles… more to follow.

While it will not be included immediately in our launch, Rich is building an in-house mailer/messaging module so Affiliate Business Builders can communicate with their teams. It will not use external email, so we will not have to wrestle with the email situation as we grow. Instead, Business Builders can contact their downlines through the back office. Members log into Xtream to view their messages, etc.

Members join Xtream, whether as a free member or Affiliate, and can then use their back office as their online marketing hub to get to venues in our Network, post ads, even surf if they want. And, if we don’t list their favorite site or program… we can add them in as we grow.

Fyi – our Membership site is in fact built along the same lines and principles as the TrEx script. I am finding it so Admin and user friendly that I only wish I had known about TrEx when I first started up my original traffic exchanges. Good news is: Xtream is to be the pilot site for Rich’s upcoming Varisearch Members Only script. In the future we hope to see many other Super Stores coming online across the Internet! In time, Pilot Site status will change to Flagship. Xtream members are on the ground floor.

Tips for traffic exchange owners – VS-10 is a credit based traffic swap system. When you send traffic out to the Network and a page from your traffic exchange is seen on another traffic exchange, that costs you a credit. When you bring in a page from another traffic exchange and show it to your members, you earn a partial credit. The key to success is to ultimately bring in more traffic and pageviews into your traffic exchange then you send out. Your Outgoing link is the mechanizim which brings pageviews into your exchange. Add that link multiple times to increase the number of pageviews you receive to the Phantom Accounts you set up on your site. As your traffic exchange grows in membership and websites, add Phantom Accounts and more Outgoing links to keep your credit balance in the Black.

New Xtream Members Online Business System Back Office rolls out this coming week!
Rich Parker of Varisearch is putting the final touches on the back end software which will support our upcoming Xtream Global Members Site and Digital Products Library. It will completely replace the two scripts currently in place. Besides managing the upcoming Affiliate Matrix, it will also handle the free members, manage a fully searchable Products Library database, and have portals for company news, gateways to other venues (like VS-Ten for example), and will support banner and text advertising features! A future portal will be an in-house email/messaging system so business builders can communicate with their downline as well as share other information to one another.

All Systems are a Go:
It appears that most of our services are back online and have been restored. Lonnie has been chasing around a self-replicationg bug the past few days that was attacking our scripts and webpages. It appears he found and removed the culprit and repaired the majority of our websites. Clean up continues, but for the most part it is All System Go.

Varisearch-llc Systems and Live Webinar and Support:
TrEx traffic exchange and VS-Ten (aka VS-10) is a traffic exchange swap network that services both traffic exchange owners and surfer members alike.

VS-Ten for Members: This past week Varisearch rolled out the Traffic Reminder system. Surfer Members of VS-Ten will find a list of all the traffic exchanges in the network. You can join an exchange from VS-10. You can also then tell the system which exchanges you belong to. When you log into each exchange and surf, it will record that for you. Each time you go to your VS-10 back office, you can see what exchanges you surfed and the last surf date. Up next, Rich is rolling out the downline building.

VS-Ten for Traffic Exchange Owners: VS-Ten is a credit-based swap system. You receive credits for bringing pageviews into your exchange for your members to view, you are charged credits for the pages sent to the network that are shown on other sites. The mechanizim that brings pages into your exchange is called the OutBound link. You will find this important link in your VS-Ten back office under Owners, My Traffic Exchanges. Typically you, the owner or Admin, will set up an account called VS-Ten and then add your site’s OutBound link to your exchange and assign credits to it so it can then go into rotation on your exchange. As members surf, the link enters the surfbar and displays a page from the VS-10 Network. You receive credit for that view. To increase the number of outgoing pageviews – and thus your credits with VS-Ten – simply increase the number of OutBound links you add to your exchange. Some Admins will also set up additional VS-Ten accounts on their site – each with a number of the outbound link - to increase the number of pageviews they show to the members of their exchange.

The Win Network:
The new powerpoint slide show is in place and Doug presented it in Sunday’s session. At the end of the presentation you can advise members that they can still subscribe to Xtream for the $9.95 pre-launch special through 4-4-09. April 5 is the official rollout of the Xtream Global Online Business Systems and the end of the $9.95 special.

Wild Rose Marketing reports that from ning.com are not permited on any of the Wild Rose Marketing exchanges. Ning has added something to their script which causes it to break surf frames.
