Kate und Brad leben als glücklich unverheiratetes Paar in San Francisco. Wie in jedem Jahr versuchen die beiden dem Weihnachtsfest im Kreis der "lieben" Familien zu entkommen. Am Weihnachtsmorgen erfahren sie jedoch, dass ihr Flug ins exotische Urlaubsparadies wegen Bodennebels gestrichen ist.
