Hi Everyone!! It's been almost two years, so I figured I'd post :) I'd like to say, I'm still an Atheist-a HUGE ONE!! lol But more importantly, I'm the grandmother of two beautiful boys who were born 3 months apart last year. To say I have a full busy life would be an UNDERSTATEMENT!! Everyday, I'm reminded of just how beautiful life truly is.

Now, I'm going to introduce to you, my grandsons!!

My children, who I couldn't be more proud of...are AMAZING parents!! Blake is now 10 mos and walking with assistance, Ryan, 7 mos, is a jumper. He jumps into your arms as if he's being propelled lol Hilarious!

It's more important for me now that I have another generation under my belt, to let my grands know they have choices. First, it's NOT necessary to believe in a deity in order to be a successful, moral person. Two, if you choose to believe-KNOW why you're believing. It's not enough to believe because you were raised to do so. QUESTION EVERYTHING.

Since my last post, I've been busy in the Atheist movement. Last year, I created a group called Minority Atheists of MI and we're now 40 members strong. We're also part of the African Americans for Humanism project in addition to being part of Detroit CoR (Detroit Coalition of Reason). We also educate people as to what Atheists are and aren't. Nope, not devil worshippers, nope not immoral, nope we don't eat the young. We simply reject claims of deities based on lack of evidence.

My Words...

My last post served as my 'coming out' of the Atheist closet. This is a short video I uploaded to Youtube. Snippets of it was used as part of Thinking Atheist's In Your Own Words 2 project.

Surprisingly, most of my christian friends have remained my friends. I don't mind speaking about religion or lack of religion-I just refuse to have a one-sided conversation that includes threats of hell, peppered with bible scriptures. It's like speaking to a scripted telemarketer-not very effective.

Here's the project I was a part of (The Thinking Atheist)...I come in later in the video.

Free To Be Me..

For the past couple of years, I've been searching...and questioning 'truth.' Through my blog, I've met many wonderful people...mostly Christians who encouraged me, and I in turn encouraged them. I've written posts regarding my beliefs, but near the end...my beliefs in god, christianity turned into disbelief. I stepped away from my first blog...You Better Recognize (YBR).

I've been away from YBR because I have grown...disillusioned.

GDisillusioned with Christianity, and disillusioned with 'God.' This journey did not happen overnight. I've searched the bible, prayed to god, sought help from pastors etc.

I've come to this conclusion: Religion is bullshit. I no longer believe in god...of any kind.

I must admit, I've never, ever felt more free. In speaking with religious people in real time, the conversation was mostly positive. Of course, there were those who felt I was traumatized by some life-altering event. For the record, I haven't been raped, my children weren't killed by a serial killer-or victims of black on black crimes...I chose to question.

I am still Bria...i'm just Bria former christian, turned Atheist.

Quoting scriptures and telling me I'm destined for hell is ineffective and counterproductive.

I knew I was on my way to Atheism, when I would be asked to pray for people...and it was IMPOSSIBLE to do as I no longer believed prayer worked. I believed prayer was and/is a coping mechanism-but that's MY opinion. Instead of saying 'no, I won't pray for you,' I simply said, 'girl, you know you're going to be fine :)'

And they were.

I'm not a satanist, and I'm not using Atheism as a means to do what I want. I am not amoral contrary to the belief of many Christians & their stereotypes. I simply do not believe the bible is 'inspired', I refuse to serve a 'god' who sees us as nothing more than puppets, and I most certainly will not be bullied into worship a god who threatens to toss me into a fiery inferno for choosing to say, 'No Thanks,'- but if someone rapes, tortures, kills a small child-then utters the words 'I Accept Jesus as Lord as Savior'..they're absolved-are you kidding me??

I know this is disconcerting for my online Christian friends. I know many of you will have nothing to do with me-and I'm ok with that. I wish you nothing but peace & love.

I am not here to 'convert' or debate my stance. You either accept it..or you don't.

With or without YOUR approval...I am still free!

The Devil Sues Pat Robertson for Breach of Contract

EP: Virginia Beach – The devil filed a lawsuit in the Virginia Beach district court on Thursday suing Pat Robertson for breach of contract. “Pat Robertson has broken the terms of our agreement with him” said Arthur B. Ellzebub, an attorney for satan, “His public comments regarding various pacts we may or may not be involved in is in clear violation of the non-disclosure agreement we signed with him 36 years ago.” Ellzebub went on to explain that the controversy surrounding Robertson’s comments about the recent tragedy in Haiti is creating significant confusion as to whom exactly has a contractual relationship with the devil. Ellzebub clarified the issue when he explained that “Mr. Robertson first approached us seeking fame, fortune and power, and we agreed to grant him all these things in exchange for a series of services. These services include manipulating the faith of millions of believers for our political and financial gain and projecting himself in the mainstream media as a complete ass. While his work on both fronts over the years has been exemplary, we must enforce our deals to the letter. For this reason, the devil has decided to sue Mr. Robertson. “

In response to a question regarding the devil’s relationship with Haiti, Ellzebub responded “While I am not at liberty to divulge any of satan’s legal relationships, I can say that the devil prefers working with individuals like Mr. Robertson and quite frankly we do not have the legal resources to make such an arrangement with an entire nation.”

Robertson was not immediately available for comment. However his attorneys did release the following statement: “Mr. Robertson denies any relationship past or present with the devil. However, if there so happens to be evidence of any interaction with satan, the explanation for this would be that the devil had tricked Mr. Robertson into believing he was someone else.”

Why is Pat Robertson still relevant??

I think by now, most people who I've talked to am aware that I no longer go to church, nor associate with Christianity. Some are understanding and others are the exact reason why I left...pure and unadulterated ignorance.

I've been away from my blog for awhile now, but in light of the Haiti Earthquake and its devastating status...I felt compelled to post (or vent lol) about televangelist Pat Robertson. I won't ask why is he still on TV, because with a net worth estimated between $200million and $1billion the answer to that question is painfully clear.

I am concerned that Pat Robertson continual gibberish is still being gobbled up and supported by many Christians. His latest words in regards to Haiti and the reason behind the Earthquake were quirky, stupid and that of a madman. If what Robertson said was true, the Earthquake was due to Haiti having a pact with a devil, what about the missionaries and Haitians who practiced Christianity and were killed? Were those lost lives simply...collateral damage??

How do you feel about the latest stupid thing Pat Robertson has said??

Gosh darn, where do I begin?? Blogs, emails and news outlets have been thrown into a tailspin with Alaska's most precious resource-Sarah Palin- announcing that she's stepping down as Governor. She's resigning. hmmmm. What's really making people talk is during her press conference (i haven't viewed it yet) she spoke in circles, rambled, and used analogies that pretty much thoroughly confused the listening audience.

What's going on with Sarah Palin...now?? One thing for certain, she's not about to fade to black anytime soon, as I've discovered she LOVES the limelight. source

Possible reasons for stepping down (j/k):

Another scandal (more unpaid for clothes??) is about to be revealed in the Palin clan
She's accepted an offer to appear on DWTS
American Idol has added Palin as a judge (i guess Paula IS leaving!! lol)
Entertainment correspondent for either MTV, ET, or even TMZ (it cud happen!!)
Will be full-time grandma to Tripp Easton
Will travel the world as an MJ impersonator, or better yet-Tina Fey impersonator!

UPDATE: ok, I'm watching Palin's announcement. WTH is she referring to when she says, "only dead fish go with the flow??" Ok, she keeps saying 'I'll work for..." is she running for President-seriously, if not-then how will she work for others-in what capacity? She's choosing 'more freedom for Alaska' and is speaking on how much fun some Governors have, as 'lame ducks.' They (other governors) collect their check without doing anything for their State. Ok, she's transferred power to Lt. Governor Parnell. She is seriously speaking in damn circles! It's like she has this helluva secret-alludes to the secret-but won't tell who it is she's referring to. Ok...she just made the basketball analogy. She's passing the ball to Parnell so the team (Alaska) can win. Trust her with her decision and know there's no more politics as usual. She said her decision has been in the works for a while. Uh-huhhhh After prayer and consideration she made her decision (ok, she mentioned -somewhat-religion. Everytime religion is alluded to, there's usually drama to go with it-we'll see). She said her children assisted her (in additon to prayer and careful consideration) in helping with her decision (whom she polled and the count was unanimous) but did not mention her husband (though he was standing by her side). She asked her kids: Do you want me to make a positive difference and fight for all our children from outside the Gov's office? (I'm sorry I can't imagine Sarah posing such an eloquent question to her kids, lol-it was probably more like: Gosh darnit, would you guys like it if I stayed at home with you guys and laughed at Obama's ears on TV?!) She said there were '4 yes' and 1 HELL YEAH, and the HELL YEAH response is what sealed the deal. Oh that Sarah, she just one pile of mush!! She goes on to say her son Trigg (who has Down Syndrome) has been ridiculed by mean spirited adults. She's going to take her fight for Alaska in a new direction...(care to elaborate Sarah??) Maybe you guys can make sense out of her speech...she looked good in that red suit, tho!

Embattled Detroit Councilwoman Monica Conyers

~~Detroit Councilwoman~~ Former Councilwoman (as of July 6th) has dug her own grave. From bar fights, to cussing out police officers, to disrespecting her fellow Detroit Council peers on camera, to even going on the defense with a young teenager when her behavior was questioned, Monica Conyers is a troubled woman. Sadly, her latest escapade can and most likely will land her behind bars. Monica Conyers, a lawyer and wife of State Senator John Conyers, has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes ($6k and jewelry). She's currently facing up to 5yrs of prison time. source

Time after time, those who are voted into office (not only in Detroit) who have sworn to uphold the law and serve the community are continually blinded by money. Detroit, no stranger to scandals (remember former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick) cannot eschew the ominous reputation that's been bestowed upon the city due to the dirty dealings of its officers. I love the city of Detroit, but not those who are in office. It is simply a matter of time before one of Detroit's representatives causes us to bow our heads in shame. I was motivated to move out of Detroit 3yrs ago and I haven't looked back.

While we tend to get upset the blame is two-fold. We are too lazy or fearful to do a little research on those who are running for office so we take the word of friends, family and then follow their vote. These clowns who are on Detroit's council do not sit themselves in those chairs...they're voted in...BY YOU the constituents. Detroit-when is enough, enough?? When in the hell will the city of Detroit TAKE BACK THEIR DAMN CITY?!

Why I think black church is a damn joke

LiveSteez research shows that Black churches, in aggregate, have collected more than $420 billion in tithes and donations since 1980. With a Senate investigation into the finances of several mega churches underway, the “Prosperity Movement” has been the target of mounting criticism from inside and outside the Black Church. Specifically, the affluent ministries of The Reverend Creflo Dollar, Bishop Eddie Long and others have drawn the attention – and ire – of some clergy and laypeople alike.

Researcher Henry E. Felder’s study of Blacks’ donation habits demonstrated per capita spending of $508 per year in 2009 dollars. Another source, Tyler Media Services, estimated that Black Church revenue approached $17 billion in 2006.

One church, the Reverend Dollar’s World Changers, reported $69 million in 2006 income, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Mainstream politicians and Black community leaders are demanding a better accounting of the “return on investment” offered by churches to the communities that fund them. Meanwhile, legions of faithful churchgoers defend their pastors and accuse their detractors of applying a double standard that ignores the largesse of wealthy, white televangelists, while underplaying the economic development and social service functions provided by the Black Church.

“The church has gotten caught up in materialism and greed, a lifestyle. Many ministers today want to live like celebrities and they want to be treated like celebrities. In other words, instead of the church standing with the community, the church has become self-serving. It has strayed away from its mission” according to Dr.Love Henry Whelchel, professor of church history at The Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.

Few people – not even the ongoing Congressional investigation by Senator Chuck Grassley accuse the mega church pastors of outright larceny, and congregants generally approve of their pastors’ luxurious lifestyles. However, in a blatant recent example, a father-son pastor team, 76-year-old Richard Cunningham of Moreno Valley and his son, 52-year-old Philip Cunningham of Laurinburg, N.C., pleaded guilty to felony grand theft and fraud charges. The younger Cunningham also pleaded guilty to forgery. Over five years, prosecutors say, the Cunninghams stole from Calvary Baptist Yorba Linda Church and School bank accounts and used the money to buy time shares in Hawaii and Palm Springs, golf club memberships and a Cadillac. Prosecutors say the men have paid $3.1 million in restitution to the church.

LiveSteez’s investigative series will take a forensic editorial approach to quantifying the return to Black America for the $350 billion in tax-favored donations it has given to the Black Church, examining the arguments on both sides of the pulpit. In this series we will seek answers and advisory to the following questions:

- How often and how much do church leaders take advantage of the faith of poor black people?

-We will investigate and indentify the churches they are showing a strong return on investment that goes beyond inspiration.

- What does the black community have to show for the $350 billion in tax free dollars?

- Expert analysis on what could potentially be done with such a huge amount of money and how it could improve the state of our communities.

- Why do some church leaders refuse to participate in the Grassley congressional Investigation, which requested the financial records of several mega-churches.

*** I've been told too many times that 'faithful tithers/offers' have been turned down by the very churches they've given their $$ to. As a matter of fact, before making a final decision, the financial board oftentime will review your tithing/offering record as a determining factoring in releasing funds to you. Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, lost one of its faithful tithing members a couple of years ago. The daughter wanted to have the repast at the church-knowing how much her mother loved Greater Grace Temple. Greater Grace was happy to appease their member's daughter...for several hundred dollars!! Did I mention that in addition to faithful tithing and offering, she also served the church tirelessly. Why?? The church used to be about COMMUNITY. What if God turned down the prayers and needs of those who were less fortunate (which would be EVERYONE)? Since when do you have to APPLY for assistance at a church-who can accept or deny a request (excluding SCAMMERS)- as if you were applying to Bank of America, or JP Chase Manhattan?? Give me a break!!

Dear Attention Whore,
You know who you are. First let me ask you, what makes you think you're SO great? Who did you pay (or barter SERVICES with) in order to play judge at a beauty pageant-YOU of all people?! Was Gary Coleman unavailable?? Why is it that the only way your ignorant, celebrity brown-nosing azz can feel great about your uncomfortably built self, is by disparaging others? I'm lead to believe and this is purely subjective as it's MY OPINION and MY BLOG, that you were perhaps a middle child (I could be wrong)-who was overlooked by whomever your caretaker was and now you're attempting to make your mark by wielding the sword of spite. It is not the fault of celebrities (big/small) that others in your familia- nicer, more approachable mijas and mijos took precedence over you. Your ass is bitter, despicable and desperate for attention. Attention whores such as yourself are nothing than wadded up used tissues...tossed to the side, overlooked and stepped on. You try as your might to reinvent yourself to no avail.

Please, do not think for one moment ur a celebrity. Ur a poser and a loser-nothing more nothing less. The ♚of Pop has died: Michael Jackson dies of Cardiac Arrest

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop (Jackson 5 fame!), according to news sources, has died at the age of 50. I am in a bit of shock upon hearing this news. I don't want to believe it as many others don't. He was found earlier today unconscious from cardiac arrest and never recovered. Although most of us did not KNOW Michael Jackson-we KNEW him and oftentimes lived vicariously through him. Through his being in a band with his brothers, going on to become the most successful solo artist, Neverland, Bubbles the Monkey, his hyperbaric chamber, plastic surgeries, much copied MOONWALK, crotch grabbing, incognito costumes, surgical masks, scarves, flooding pants,child molestation scandals, examining of his nether regions, wigs, several pigmentation changes, vitiligo, his wives (Lisa Marie, Debbie), his 3 children (dangling his youngest child over a balcony), studded gloves/white socks, Billie Jean (she was NOT his lover!). The list is endless.

I remember as a child when I was a Jehovah's Witness (don't be shocked! lol) and Michael was one too-he came to one of the Jehovah's Witnesses Assemblies (aka conferences for church folk) and he sat 3 rows behind me. Can I tell you, I don't know what the men at the podium were ministering bcuz truly I got a crook in my neck as I stargazed Michael. He winked and waved and I thought I'd pass out. One time when I went door2door (ministering on the street), this guy shouted he wasn't going to get a Watchtower and Awake bcuz we give all of our money to Michael Jackson lol OMG you should've heard my lil smart behind GOING OFF on that man! My daddy had to pull me from the door-I had to be about 9-10yrs of age lol

I hoped the news of his passing wasn't true-but it is. Shortly after learning (about an hour ago), my mind went to Prince (Prince Nelson-not his two kids) and wondered how did he feel about the news?! Isn't that weird?? Anyway...there are not enough words that I can utilize to describe the way I feel. to date, the story was reported but NOT confirmed by CNN

The living legend is no more-but he shall remain in our hearts forever.

Michael Jackson the King of Pop has left us, but he'll never be gone. May you FINALLY, FINALLY get the peace you deserve.

Can you say, DRAMEDY?! This is funny tragedy if ever I saw one~first let me say...the workmanship of girl's tatts is on point. However...her story stinks to high heaven!! I have four tattoos, with 3 more on the way by the end of the summer. Gf said she FELL ASLEEP during her tattoo procedure and due to a language barrier her request was lost in translation.

Let me tell you this...unless you were in a MEDICALLY INDUCED COMA, there's NO WAY you could sleep thru a needle jabbing your skin along the jawline, going down your neck..YOUR NOSE, YOUR EYES...ie, YOU WON'T FALL ASLEEP GETTING A FACIAL TATTOO. #2, if your tattoo artist doesn't speak the same language as you...WHY WUD U LET HIM TATTOO U?!

Let's call this: "It seemed like a good idea at the time..." until her daddy and bf weren't as enthusiastic with the art as she was. NOW she wants to sue. Granted, young people are impetuous but they should also learn to accept responsibility for the stupid azz decisions they make. This girl looks like a clown. And if I were her dad, I'd make her behind look in the mirror every chance she got as a reminder of how stupid she really was. smdh To quote Madea, "she's dumb as hell, dumb as hell!!" Girl bye!

By now, most of you have seen Pres. Obama attempting to continue an interview only to bothered by an annoying fly. Who hasn't dealth with those pesky nasty critters?? Well, even the Prez of the United States isn't above being annoyed. His reaction to the pest? Swat and kill it-like we all do. Except for PETA that is. I'm really trying to understand PETA, really I am. I understand about protesting against animal fur, animal testing etc,but if they're so worried about a fly-why aren't they swarming Detroit, trying to rescue these dogs that are used in dog fights or better yet-those that are roaming the streets?? How can you sleep at night, PETA, knowing those animals are in the streets in below zero weather during the winter-where are you then??

President Obama's coolness has gone up to the nth degree. PETA...GET A LIFE!

I really thought I heard everything in the area of crazy ass kids. But this takes the damn cake.
Not only has a fool's mother died...but her son has gone so far as to FORGE her death certificate and then dress in drag-in a poor feeble attempt to pass as his mother!! EXCUSE ME?!

Thomas Parkin, 49, aka 'Son of the damn Year' has been collecting checks in his mother's name for the past 6years. He collected more than $100,000 in government benefits. I mean if you break that down: 100,000/6= $16,000 per year. That's not a lot of money. I mean for one person if you're counting your pennies, stick to your budget and you may be able to make it.
Thomas and his dumb ass 'friend' Mhilton Rimolo, 47 were the masterminds behind this bs and I must say...it reminds me of the movie, Psycho, except this fool is really psycho!!

According to People.com, Usher has filed for divorce from his wife Tameka. I spoke about the possibility about the demise of their marriage last year, here>>. Shocked, but not surprised I admit.

According to People.com:

The R & B star filed the petition Friday in Superior Court in Atlanta, court records show. The couple, who got married in August 2007, have two sons together, Usher Raymond V, 18 months, and Naviyd, 6 months.

Tameka, who's on twitter (@tamekaraymond) is nonplussed. Tameka's twittin her azz off-with happy twits about Navyid looking cherubic and sharing bible scriptures. But why should she be upset?? She has two children by Usher and will be sitting pretty financially in a minute.

I know Mama Patton is doing her Holy Ghost dance right about now. Stay tuned for details.

Another gramps was on the warpath...this one was in Washington-not the state. At the age of 88, James Von Brunn finally got the nerve up to do something all Neo-Nazis want to do-take out folks that weren't white. He was successful today in his killing- a black security guard Stephen Tyron Johns, died today as a result of being shot.

Based on what I've read about Brunn, he's nothing more than a whiner who blames other peole for his drama, issues, circumstances etc. He has quite a history and even served time in prison for 6 yrs at the age of 62-dude was a serious late bloomer. Be that as it may he's in the hospital-another security guard shot him-and we know he's going to be locked up. But seriously at the age of 88, do you REALLY THINK Brunn gives a rip about serving time?? I don't. I'm not going to spout off hateful rhetoric about white supremacists, skinheads, neo-nazis and their b.s. cuz frankly-they all bore me. Gramps Kills 6y/o Grandson...

I'm aware of the MI (state I live in) story about the grown daughter who ate her father's dinner roll after he left a note saying DO NOT EAT MY DINNER ROLL-which she ate anyway and resulted in daddy's death. Obviously, they had a serious issue of disrespect going on.

This story in GA says gramps (Robert L. Clark, 55) allegedly killed his grandchild (6y/o, Michael Levine) because he dropped a watermelon. According to Police Chief Gasset, little Michael 'either dropped the watermelon or cut it prematurely.' I REFUSE to sensationalize this tragedy (like other stories I've read) by saying this child was killed over a watermelon. That's not true. This baby (who's dad served time for drugs in prison-WHERE'S MAMA??) died at the hands of a bully who lost a moment of control. According to AJC, the authorities (911) has been called 6 or 7 times in the past. Nice. A neighbor, Rita Whitman said she had witnessed gramps hollering at the kids (Michael has a 5y/o brother also-who was unharmed), The one that he killed, he did yell at him a lot. You did see the occasional explosion of anger. He would just use terrible language, cussing so bad at that one boy. Funny how neighbors want to get involved after the fact. smh

Well gramps got shot by the police, and grandma got shot by grandpa. This is a sad story all around. Gramps'll get some time behind bars, Grandma will get time to live a life w/out abuse, and hopefully in time little brother will be able to put this awful tragedy behind him.

Tragic.

UPDATE: Lawd, it seems the publicity from media, attention from gawkers in addition to not winning Britain's Got Talent top spot (she was runner up to a male dance group-OUCH!!)...proved to be too much for our favorite underdog, Susan Boyle. She has been admitted to a London hospital for exhaustion...poor thing. Regarding the pressure that Susan has endured, Scotland First Minister, Alex Salmond 'was scathing about the media pressure, saying there were “elements of a press who like nothing better than to build people up and then drag them down.” Well tell 'em how you really feel!! lol

Best wishes are with Susan Boyle, and I truly hope we haven't seen the last of her!! source
