We had an awesome time serving with them when they were up here and it’s encouraging to see our prayer lives have most definitely been changed from their trip. Well.. mine has

It also proves you don’t need to over complicate things for music. Only 1 guitar will do!

IGNITE training conference (aka Brisbane Leadership Training in previous years) for 2012 ended on Saturday. It’s a good idea to keep revising material that have been taught at camp especially at training conferences like these. You get constantly challenged everyday from the sermon talks, different workshops and from the strand material. I guess that’s why it’s a training conference and not a youth/uni camp

I remember there was this one guy from one of the BC3 churches who went to IGNITE who was a father (married and he has kids), full time worker and a Christian. His age? 42. In Strand One. Don’t get me wrong, family time is important but he chose going to a training conference over getting a week of pay and to learn more about God’s Word, go to the workshops and to be an encouragement to the other people around him (and to him as well!!). If I didn’t say this before.. here it is. I’m super encouraged by people like this who make sacrifices to get trained for Jesus.

This really goes to show that ITC is aimed at anyone at church who wants to learn to be a leader. Maybe it’s time for me to start promoting BC3 at the ‘Married with kids’ generation or the aunties/uncles or even, the deacons who want to refresh their minds on some theologically sound teaching. If they could come… that would be cool.

Time for an interlude..

Did I mention that the Oh’s cooked up a feast this year at ITC2012?
Well. Here’s some pictures to tantalise your tastebuds. Images are from Pete Ko’s instagram.

Interlude’s over. Time for the serious stuff again.

One of the key things I found at Ignite was my lack of quiet time. Or rather, how I spend my quiet time. Pastor Pete Ko shared his way of quiet time using the R.E.A.P. method of reading the Bible in his quiet times. He reads about 4 chapters of the Bible a day and keeps a record using Evernote. I have to agree, it’s a smart way to keep track of your Bible reading anywhere with internet access.

Read one verse – (or pick out one specific/interesting passage) What stood out to me?
Explain one sentence: What does it mean? / Why?
Apply
Prayer

He admits that workers don’t necessarily have that much time to spend on quiet time but 15 minutes is sufficient for this method every day. If you’re a worker and not using any method for quiet time, here’s one to help you out. I’m going to give this a try as well.

I feel like I could keep sharing for ages. This is just about 3-4 things from camp. There’s a lot more that happened. Be sure to ask someone what happened and what they learned from their experience by going to ITC2012 this year.

Soli deo gloria,

Chris

The night was MCed by Sopheap (in the picture with B & G). It started with some Khmer and English songs, then we had a few thank-yous from various church people and Nicole the guest house manager. They also wanted to know why B & G are leaving early, and if they didn’t approve, they would not let them go. The guest house staff also thanked us for helping them with their English. Bik (one of the guest house staff) presented a nice doll to each one of us. Grace and Billy returned their kind words with some words of encouragement.

The dinner was prepared by Bik’s mother, she owns a stall that sells Vietnamese Port Rolls. We started the movie after everyone received their rolls and a drink of water. It was encouraging to see the guest house cook Lee stay at the start of the movie, as she is a strong buddist and doesn’t join in the staff Wednesday morning bible study. More encouraging is that Bik and Jantrea (another guest house staff) stayed to the end of the 3 hour movie. Sokiah (the 4th staff) was sick that day, but joined the movie towards the end. The movie started at creation, fall, abraham, prophesy of Jesus then Jesus’ story from birth to ascension after resurrection.

Please pray for Bik, Jantrea, Sokiah and Lee. Jantrea has 6 more pages before completing the story book Billy bought him.

Over the past week the team (as well as Bunny and Srewot from Celebrating Church) spent a few days at Siem Reap, about 6 hours’ bus ride north of Phnom Penh. It’s a very touristy town and the gateway to Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and other historic buildings.

We had a great time of fellowship and rest. While we were up there, we had the opportunity to attend the Siem Reap Christian Fellowship where we met a team from YWAM. There’s a Canadian family with two girls (aged 15 and 17) who just sold everything they owned, to go and follow God on the mission field. I was totally amazed to meet such strong and faithful young ones – knowing what I was like at their age!

We also got to catch up with Thiasaurus, Hamon, Aunty Debbie and Uncle Peng – it was great to see some familiar faces!

The bus ride back was quite eventful – a burst tyre means we were stuck on the side of the road for an hour and a bit as Uncle Paul helped the driver and attendant change the tyre. The rest of us kinda supervised. Bunny mentioned how other passengers were amazed at Uncle Paul’s helpfulness – he’s really been looking after us well! There was also a mouse on board, which made things interesting.

Anyway, blink and it’s time for Grace and I to head home. We really have had an unforgettable time. Please keep praying for Cambodia – even in the short time we were here, we have seen SO MANY opportunities for service. For us, we need to head home and really pray and see where God will take us. Hope to catch up with you all when we get back!

God bless,
Billy & Grace

Please keep praying for them unceasingly!

Today we had the privilege of visiting some of WEC’s Vocational Training Program projects here in Phnom Penh. The guesthouse/cafe we are staying in (4memories/Cafe Fin) is one of three projects they have established in this city, which aims to not only give people work-related training, but also sharing the gospel through staff devotions every morning. They are doing an amazing job! Part of the team also got to hang out with some students from Mekong Uni over dinner – while the rest went to eat bugs and hang out with Pastor Dina’s family.

Tomorrow morning we will be heading off to Siem Reap until Tuesday. Please pray for us, and we will keep you posted on our trip up there!

The story goes that there was a particularly bad persimmon. We don’t know what’s wrong with it (dodgy chemicals perhaps…), but everyone who ate it had an instant allergic reaction – your tongue and lips feel like they become ginormous and super numb. Some people HAD to try it for themselves… and their reaction can be seen in this little video… (we also included a clip of Jonathan aka Nany, he’s such a classic!)

Generally for the past few days we’ve been quite busy serving Celebrating Church and getting to know its members. Sunday Service was in Khmer but the way they worship is amazing!! Stephen and Billy got to join in the music team and some girls served in Sunday School as well. And getting to know them has been a privilege for us. Their generosity and love for us is really quite amazing.

This week there’ll be a lot of English teaching, both at the church and at Mekong Fellowship. Please pray for us, and for those who we are going to meet!
