Some people get wigged out when they first hire a housecleaner.

They never thought they would be the type of person to hire a professional maid service. Now they are busy, they can afford it, and they want their house cleaned on a regular basis.

Some overcompensate. They make friends with the house cleaner in an effort to show that they are good people, and don't look down on anyone. This almost always leads to failure.

Keep a professional distance between you and your housecleaner. Robert Frost wrote good fences make for good neighbors in his poem Mending Wall. Perhaps Frost was questioning the need for fences, nonetheless, barriers are a good thing in many circumstances. Hiring a house cleaner falls into this category. Barriers, whether made out of wood, stone, or simple healthy distance, create a boundary that makes everyone more comfortable and effective. How could children play soccer without lines drawn on the grass? Go back to the reason you hired the housecleaner in the first place. You wanted your house cleaned. You were not looking for a new friend.

Some maids use friendship as a bridge to poor job performance. Your compassion to their problems might result in tips, loans, passes for being late or not showing up at all. When the quality of the home cleaning declines, whether it's an occasional service or an overall decline, you will be less likely to be complain. Sometimes this just happens. For others, it's contrived. Familiarity breeds contempt. It's also true that familiarity breeds content.

The best advice is to keep a professional distance from your home cleaners. Better yet, hire a professional maid service and shift the burden of customer satisfaction and maid management to their shoulders.

Just yesterday morning we discussed the philosophical difference between wanting something and needing something. Later that afternoon my resolve was tested...

We want to sell residential cleaning service franchises. We want to sell residential cleaning service franchises in Florida. We have decided not to pay for marketing to promote the sale of our residential cleaning service franchise protected territories in Florida or anywhere else until our new website is complete. Nevertheless we do have franchise applicants interested in territories.

For the past couple of weeks we have been enjoying a conversation with a UK citizen interested in purchasing a You've Got MAIDS franchised business territory somewhere in Florida. I truly wanted it to work out, and it still may. However, I don't need it to work out.

Yesterday the prospective franchise partner from London, England wrote "I am looking for substantial changes in the Franchising Agreement"; he then forwarded 18 pages of changes. In the end it wouldn't resemble the company that we have painstakingly built by trial and error. If I was desperate I might have said yes just to add another franchise partner, but it would have been to the detriment of the franchise system. After all peace at any price is not peace.

Joining a franchise business is not a perfect business opportunity for everyone. Sure franchise businesses have a greater chance for success (a U.S. Dept. of Commerce study reveals that over 90% of franchises are still trading profitably after 7 years compared to a 80% failure rate for independent start-ups). However, some people would fair better on their own.

If you don't like following guidelines, don't purchase a franchise business.
If you are one of those rare individuals that is always the smartest person in the room, you may not want to purchase a franchise business.
If you want to totally change a franchise operating system before you purchase it, don't purchase that franchise business.

Earlier this week I received a maid service quote request from a woman in Longwood, Florida. She told me that "I want maid service, but I don't need maid service.", and ten minutes later she booked our 52-Point Spring Clean.

A need is something you must have. A good example is food, and oxygen.

A want is something you would like to have. A good example is professional maid service.

Wants vs. Needs is more then just semantics. It is a philosophy. It goes to intent. Our maid service client in Longwood, FL recognizes that she wanted residential maid service, but that the world would not stop spinning if she didn't find someone to clean her home. She could do it herself. She could procrastinate her cleaning away.

By the grace of God I get to go through the world with want goggles on. I make decisions mostly on a want, not need, basis. The maids were at my apartment in Baldwin Park (xxxx xxxxxx Place, Orlando, FL) this past Monday. I would like my next maid service pushed back from May 11th to May 18th if at all possible (I am spending very little time at my apartment). That will also be the last day that I will want maid service. I am moving, so I will need to have the maids leave the key at the conclusion of service that day. They can leave it the same place where they picked it up (explained below) or I can arrange to meet them to get the key.

I want to let you know that I have been very, very happy with your maid service! Your maids have always done an outstanding job! You have been great to deal with! Very professional all the way around. If the need arises again, I would definitely use your service again!
