KINGSTON, Jamaica: International recording star Sean Paul will be celebrating his birthday tonight (Wednesday, January 11) at the Fiction lounge as part of the party series Brand New Machine (BNM).

“What better place to celebrate than in Kingston, Jamaica?,” said Sean Paul.

Long-time friend, road manager and party promoter, Steve Wilson of BNM fame will host the ‘star studded’ event.

“Wednesday’s are always popping a Fiction. But Sean and his superstar friends will take it to another level,” said Steve. “In addition to the party, the music and the vibe, the video screensin the club will showcase the Material Riddim Medley video.”

Sean Paul is currently putting the final touches on his fifth studio album Tomahawk Technique, set to be released by VP/Atlantic next month. The 12-track album includes Got 2 Luv U featuring Alexis Jordan, She Doesn’t Mind and Wedding Crashers. Sean Paul also serves personal tracks like How Deep Is You Love featuring Kelly Roland, formerly of Destiny’s child.

However, he switched roles in the studio to produce the Material Riddim with a host of artistes including Wayne Marshall, Fambo, Bounty Killer, and Cecile. Sean Paul also produced a groundbreaking 10-minute medley video, with supporting behind the scenes footage, which was directed by Mikal Chushnie.

SHAGGY CONCERT TO FOCUS ON BUSTAMANTE’S CARDIAC UNIT

The Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation will continue with the charity auction aspect of this year’s Shaggy and Friends concert. The concert, which will be staged on Saturday, January 7, is organised by the foundation to benefit the Bustamante Children’s Hospital.

“Our focus this year is on the cardiac unit at Bustamante, and we’re really trying to ensure we get a great turn-out and raise as much money as we can for the hospital,” said Rebecca Packer, a director of the Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation in a release sent to The STAR.

She said that the auction was an important part of making the overall event a success. 100 per cent of all proceeds from the Shaggy & Friends concert, including the charity auction, godirectly to aid the Bustamante Children’s Hospital, which is the only hospital of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Patrons of the concert who hold platinum tier tickets are able to participate in the auction, which begins at 6:30 p.m., and gates to the event for platinum-ticketed patrons open at 5 p.m. There will be more than 20 items on auction, which Packer says “will entice people to make a bigger difference and save more lives”.

Items to be auctioned include a diamond watch from celebrity jeweller Chris Aire, exclusiveclothing designs from Carlton Brown and Lubica, tickets to the highly-rated Michael JacksonImmortal Cirque Du Soleil tour in Miami, a one-on-one surprise experience with the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt, a VIP Black Card from Fiction Nightclub, art pieces, a catered dinner for four to six persons done by chef Brian Lumley, spa and villa experiences, signed memorabilia, HD cable boxes courtesy of Flow and more. Additionally, the foundation will also be auctioning cardiac surgeries, where participants in the auction will be able to contributedirectly to the cost of heart surgeries for those children at Bustamante Hospital who are in need.

With tickets now on sale, its full speed ahead for the 2012 staging of Shaggy & Friends. Tickets are available at The Jamaica Pegasus, Usain Bolt Tracks & Records, Liguanea Drug and Garden, Susie’s Bakery & Coffee Bar, Music Mart, LG Service Station, Sun Island Outlets islandwide, LIME Lifestyle Stores (47 Half-Way-Tree Road, Bargain Mall, Sovereign, Portmore Mall and Knutsford Boulevard). They are available in three tiers – Platinum, Silver and Gold. Peace could be in the air in 2012 for dancehall heavy weights Bounty Killer and Mavado. The two were spotted earlier this week at Uptown Mondays having a good time, fueling speculation that there might be a truce.

Last year the two Alliance deejays made headlines when news surfaced that a feud was brewing in the camp. According to reports, the beef started after the death of Mavado’s close friend at Bounty Killer’s birthday bash at the Quad night club.

Both deejays denied the beef but confirmed that there was tension in the camp.

Sources inside the Gully camp told Urban Islandz that the link between Vado and Killer happened over the Christmas Holiday and the two are moving to reconcile.

Cham (born Damian Beckett on February 24, 1979) is a Grammy Award-nominated Jamaican recording artist, most well known for his 2006 single “Ghetto Story” from his major label debut album of the same name, a song which led to multiple “story” songs by other artists in a similar vein.

I-OCTANE GETS BACKLASH FROM PROMOTER AFTER SHOW FLOPS

Promoter Tia Reinford is demanding to be compensated by I-Octane and his management following claims that the “Burn Dem Bridge” hitmaker is allegedly responsible for the premature end of her event.

Tia, who is the promoter of the Westmoreland Kite Festival held on Sunday, said patrons pelted bottles on the stage following I-Octane’s abrupt end of his set. The promoter says I-Octane is responsible for the incident.

However, I-Octane is singing a different tune.

In the meantime, promoter Tia Reinford is seeking compensation. She adds that she will not quit until I-Octane and his management negotiates with her.

Lauryn Hill, the talented singer, songwriter and actress, quietly slipped into Jamaica Monday night as she prepares to perform at the Shaggy and Friends Charity Concert set for January 7.

The concert that will also feature performances from international recording stars Ne-Yo and Deniece Williams on the lawns of Jamaica House, is being held to raise much-needed funds for the BustamanteHospital for Children, the beneficiary of the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation.

The 36-year-old former member of the Fugees, who, along with her six children, arrived in the dead of night, is making the trip thanks to LIME, who is on board with the foundation to the tune of almost $8 million.

According to LIME's head of marketing, Stephen Price, his company came on board to assist with helping to make the charity concert special.

"They wanted to bring in someone unique," he said, explaining why LIME came on board to help make the Grammy-award winning artiste available.

"She is one of the most beloved artistes and we thought it appropriate for Jamaicans to see her in other than a purely commercial light."

Hill, of course, has a strong Jamaican connection. Five of her six children were fathered by Rohan Marley, son of the legendary Bob Marley. She has also covered Marley's Turn Your Lights Down Low andRedemption Song. "In addition to her command of several genres, she also has a very healthy command of reggae music," Price said.

Media reports say she has invested financially in Jamaica, but the nature of those investments is unknown.

Price revealed that she consented to perform at the concert because she respects Shaggy's efforts in trying to raise money for the hospital that sees to the needs of many of Jamaica's children. "That's why we wanted to join forces and come on board for this," Price said. "The work of the Bustamante Hospital for Children is a tremendous and invaluable service to Jamaican children and their families. We feel it is our duty to support this noble effort being championed by Shaggy and his team, and so we are 100 per cent committed to helping the foundation achieve its targets."

He continued: "In addition to partnering with Shaggy, we have also created opportunities for our customers and Jamaicans in the Diaspora to participate and contribute to the effort. As such, we will be providing a live broadcast of the concert on LIME Mobile TV and via pay per view online, from which we will donate proceeds. "We take this opportunity to commend Shaggy, who has been a long-time member of the LIME family, for continuing to use his celebrity status to raise awareness about the needs of the institution and for inspiring many others to do something about it".

Hill's Grammy-winning album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill has sold more than 18 million copies worldwide, topping Billboard's 200 albums chart and its R&B chart.

Released in 1998, the album would help Hill enter the record books. At the 1999 Grammy Awards, Hill became both the first woman ever to be nominated in 10 categories in a single year, and the first woman to win five times in one night. Hill won the awards for Album of the Year, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and Best New Artist.

She also starred in the hot movie Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit that starred Whoopi Goldberg.
