YALE HOSTS FACTORY VISIT FOR RUSSIAN DELEGATION

Yale and its dealer representative for Russia, Universal Spetstechnica LLC (UST), invited six key account customer representatives to the Masate Warehouse Manufacturing facility as part of a Major accounts initiative in Russia.

The customers, from Moscow, Nevinnomyssk and Nizhny Novgorod in Russia, are all in the process of expanding their operations and purchasing new equipment for their materials handling fleets.

Russia and CIS Yale Territory Manager, Sergey Vasiliev, and Joel Joa, Yale Warehouse Equipment Sales Manager, hosted the customers and representatives from UST. Sergey said, "Russia is currently seeing an increase in demand for materials handling equipment as companies within the country continue to innovate and expand.

“During their two-day visit, our customers took part in an extensive tour of the manufacturing facility at Masate, observed a demonstration of the latest electric counterbalance and warehouse products, as and had the opportunity to talk with the warehouse equipment designers and product managers”.

Joel Joa commented, "The feedback was extremely positive. Many of the visitors were impressed with the product range manufactured in Masate and also the scale of the facility.

“This was the first time that that these potential customers had visited one of the production facilities where Yale products are manufactured. The visit gave them great insight into the investment being made in manufacturing in Europe by Yale’s parent company, as well as the ergonomic and productivity benefits of the products."

Sergey added, "The trip was a huge success and as a result our dealer has been able to strengthen its relationship with these customers. We will definitely be repeating this type of activity in the future, as it gives us the opportunity to show our customers the strength and scale of the organisation behind the Yale brand, which is of major importance when dealing with such large customers.”

NEW SENSOR REDUCES RISK OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS

Workplace downtime due to forklift trucks running out of fuel could soon be a problem of the past thanks to a new, high-tech, fuel level sensing system available on trucks produced by Yale Materials Handling.

The new Optical Fuel Level Sensor is an option on all of the company’s Veracitor VX LPG trucks and offers a more reliable indication of when an LPG truck is beginning to run out of fuel.

According to Tom Pickering, the company’s Product Strategy Manager, conventional systems can give as little as 30 seconds warning before trucks grind to a halt.

“LPG is normally supplied to the engine in liquid form before it is converted into gas vapour by the fuel system,” he explained. “When the LPG tank pressure drops below a certain level, the new sensor – which utilises optical refraction technology - identifies the presence of gas vapour in the fuel lines, a clear indication of low fuel.

“This provides far greater accuracy than the standard pressure sensing system, which sometimes does not give operators enough time to reach a refuelling station or the bottle store.”

The new sensor gives up to 15 minutes warning, which can help improve efficiency and reduce operating costs by providing drivers with the opportunity to work a little longer before stopping to refuel.

Tom continued: “Thanks to the accuracy of the system operators can confidently use more of the reserve LPG before re-fuelling, increasing productivity and reducing operating costs.

“It also helps to prevent the early replacement of an LPG cylinder reducing the amount of unused fuel normally returned to the vendor,” he added.

Seeing is believing; Yale MR Reach Truck Series update

Increased visibility and operator comfort updates have been made to the Yale MR series of reach trucks. The company’s senior product strategy manager for warehouse equipment, Robert O’Donoghue, explains the changes to the new MR14-25 reach trucks and the benefits they present to the operator.

“As part of Yale’s ongoing commitment to improve and evolve established products, our reach truck has undergone a series of enhancements and modifications making it even easier to operate.

“Our research has found that visibility is one of the major factors that influence an operator’s attitude towards warehouse equipment. It is cited time and again in our discussions with end users so it was imperative that we looked at this issue when updating our current series.”

The reach truck’s overhead guard has been completely redesigned without any compromise to its strength or security. The guard maintains driver protection whilst offering significantly improved upward visibility.

Robert continues: “To enhance operator comfort we have made changes to the truck that allow a new full suspension ergonomic seat to be installed. Designed to drastically reduce whole body

vibration, the seat has a very low profile mechanical suspension, a shock absorber and an integral lumbar support. A weight adjustment range dial allows the seat to be adjusted quickly for multiple users ranging from 45kg to 170kg and there is also an adjustable backrest angle with a setting range from -5 to 30 degrees.

“The new seat is available in cloth or vinyl with a heated seat option for equipment used inside cold stores. As well as offering benefits to the end user, the improved ergonomics of the reach truck have wider implications as we believe that improved comfort allows the operator to maintain optimum productivity for longer as fatigue is reduced.”

Productivity is further enhanced by an eight per cent increase in travel speeds, particularly beneficial when trucks need to operate over longer distances.

Additional updates include reduced steer noise levels, antistatic traction and wet grip drive wheel, new 800mm and 1590mm forks and additional mast height options.

Robert continues: “The reach truck is one of the most integral pieces of equipment in the warehouse, and when the right product is selected it can greatly improve the overall efficiency and productivity of the operation.

“The improvements to the new reach truck continue to follow Yale’s approach to equipment design which is to offer the highest performing and efficient trucks available allowing operators to increase product throughput in the warehouse.

The improvements to the new MR14-25 reach trucks build on the existing benefits offered by Yale’s warehouse range including 360^O steering, which offers greater driving control and more accurate positioning at the rack face, Yale’s Palmtech™ joystick and AC technology as well as electronic fly by wire steering, auto regenerative braking and speed reduction cornering.

Putting the operator first, the Palmtech™ joystick provides easy access for all lift functions, forward reverse, and the horn and Yale’s AC technology provides more choice for the operator in terms of performance and power. The performance and benefits of AC are unrivalled, a huge benefit as reach trucks are often put through their paces.

Electronic fly by wire steering automatically modifies steering sensitivity as travel speeds increase enhancing straight line travel control. Auto regenerative braking is standard across the range and provides smooth responsive braking instantly as the accelerator pedal is released. This has the added benefit of increasing battery life.

Automatic speed reduction on cornering helps to ensure best driving practice around the warehouse and to prevent unnecessary damage to racking and loads.

An interactive control has three pre-set performance levels – soft, medium and hard – plus a creep speed mode for sensitive manoeuvres. This allows the operator to pre-set the performance of the truck depending on the task. Each of the settings can be changed easily on the console with the simple touch of a button.

The instrumentation panel provides operators with a clear ‘at a glance’ display of all the truck’s vital functions and also aids problem diagnosis by an alarm fault display screen.

As an option, a four digit pin code can be programmed into the console. This provides peace of mind for the manager helping to prevent unauthorised operation.

All serviceable components of the new reach truck are easily accessible; a swing door allows clear access to the motor and drive wheel related components and battery checking is simple with a battery release switch in the foot well. The battery is extracted by reaching the mast forward, which also facilitates side battery change.

Robert concludes: “The Yale MR series reach truck incorporates outstanding levels of flexibility for all applications and thanks to AC technology offers greater efficiency, higher performance levels and improved braking torque. This is a truck designed and built around the end user and this is evident as soon as the truck is called into action.”

Yale has unveiled its next generation of agile, productive and reliable electric forklift trucks, the ERC-VA series. Leading the way in ergonomics and performance, the VA is among the most productive and highly durable electric lift trucks on the market.

The cushion tyre truck joins the extensive range of Yale materials handling equipment that combine advanced ergonomics with energy efficiency and productivity.

The redesigned operator compartment shows the emphasis the company places on providing the operator with the most ergonomic working environment. The new ERC-VA series features 16 per cent more floor space than the previous model with improved brake pedal layout and a relocated multifunction display that provides enhanced visibility for precise pallet control.

A best-in-class low vibration, full suspension seat with armrests further enhances operator comfort reducing whole body vibrations and the optional AccuTouch™ mini lever module with angled cushioned arm and palm rest with fingertip control of levers helps to reduce repetitive strain injuries (RSI).

The VA series also benefits from Yale’s Auto Deceleration System which can reduce operator fatigue, brake and tyre wear.

With lifting capacities of between 1.6 and 2 tonnes, the new Yale ERC-VA series offers significant performance and versatility for a wide variety of material handling applications. A highly compact truck that is predominantly used indoors where space is restricted, the VA boasts an aisle stacking width of just 3216 mm and a 945 mm tread width, allowing customers to block stack 1,000 mm palletised loads easily. The narrow truck also makes it ideal for drive in racking applications. The operator will also benefit from a higher seat position to make handling high loads easier.

The low cost of ownership makes the VA the ideal candidate for warehouse fleets and it is particularly suited to operating in containers, manufacturing, chemicals and operations requiring the movement of fast moving consumer goods.

AC motors, a vehicle system manager and the latest controller technology combine to reduce the frequency and cost of maintenance. According to the VDI Energy Cycle Standardised Test, the VA series with its lower rolling resistance cushion tyres consumes the lowest amount of energy when compared with similar lift trucks. The 1.6t consumes 4.5kwh/h (according to VDI 60 cycles) making this a truck with a low cost of operation.

YALE VX FUEL ECONOMY UPGRADE OFFERS SAVINGS OF UP TO 15 PER CENT

New Load Sensing Hydraulics technology has been introduced on all Yale 2-4.5 tonne Veracitor VX Value and Productivity series products offering the most fuel efficient hydrodynamic truck series currently available on the market.

Yale’s commitment to reduce fuel costs by offering a range of energy efficient yet highly productive forklift trucks has been evident in recent years with the introduction of eLo (energy saving)and HiP (high productivity) settings on electric counterbalance trucks and now on internal combustion engine (ICE) models.

The introduction of Load Sensing Hydraulics can result in energy savings up to as much as 15 per cent, and when operating in the ultra-efficient eLo mode, where the truck engine speed is slightly reduced up to an additional 5 per cent of fuel can be saved. The flexibility of the Yale electronically controlled system allows operators to switch off the eLo mode when the truck needs to be operated in high productivity mode. When measured on a productivity test cycle the Yale 2,5T Veracitor VX model moved more loads per hour and used less fuel than any other competitor models tested.

Tom Pickering, Product Strategy Manager ICE trucks, said: “We are confident that these important changes will make a significant contribution to reducing our customers forklift truck fleet ‘Cost of Operation’. We have achieved 15% lower fuel consumption measured against the industry standard VDI 2198-2002 60 load cycle test and can say with confidence that at this time these models are the most fuel efficient and productive hydrodynamic trucks available in the market today.

Added benefits

Enhanced dependability – hydraulic oil operating temperatures are reduced when the truck operates in eLo mode. This not only extends the life and effectiveness of the hydraulic oil, but also protects components and extends the truck’s life expectancy.

Noise reduction and improved driver comfort –Noise pollution is reduced from 79dB(A) to 76dB(A) (EN 12053) by operating in eLo mode.

Radial tyre Option – Available as a standard option at no added cost, radial tyres can be specified. These tyres provide lower rolling resistance and can provide an additional 12% (Why is 15% spelled out, but this one is not?) fuel saving. Radial tyres have in most applications also been proven to last longer resulting in further carbon and operating cost savings.

Advanced Optical LPG Fuel Sensor Option–Additional LPG savings can be made with Yale’s new optical fuel sensor which provides a more accurate low fuel indication This provides operators with more operational time and time to return to a gas store or refuelling station. In cases where traditional fuel sensors are used with LPG cylinders up to 10 per cent of fuel can remain in the cylinder which is then returned to the fuel supplier.

Yale Europe Materials Handling’s launches new completely re-designed ergonomic low level order picker to increase productivity and lower cost of operation.

The new MO20 low level order picker from Yale has been developed to optimise the speed and ease of picking when retrieving goods from both sides of a warehouse aisle. Combining ergonomics, efficiency and reliability Yale is demonstrating the new order picker series at its ‘Next Level’ event in Masate in June following extensive customer trials in Germany and the UK.

Designed to assist the operator in achieving increased pick rates the MO series, offers a large reduced height comfortable work platform. This allows easier pass through with easy ‘on and off’ access which helps to minimise operator movement and saves valuable time whilst picking.

The easy to operate scooter control feature provides finger tip control when on the platform. In addition, a creep speed function allows the operator to move the pallet truck to the next pick location without having to access the truck.

A key design element is the proximity of the operator to the goods.

Key features

A 2,6kW motor delivers high performance acceleration and travel speed which provides maximum productivity over the full shift period and for horizontal transport activities such as cross-docking and load shuttling. Performance can be set by the service technician to suit the application needs.

Regenerative braking and anti-roll back on slopes are standard on the series and can be set by the service technician to suit the application needs.

The MO series includes a range of models with various fork lengths to cater for various pick requirements including ground level picking to pallet or roll cages and frequent second level picking.

Planned for introduction in 2012 are the launches of models with a scissor lift function, raising operator platform up to 1500mm, and independent fork lift function.

As the demand for high performance electric counterbalance forklift trucks continues to rise, Yale introduces the new VM 4-5 tonne series.

Designed to offer a combination of energy and fuel efficiency, advanced ergonomics and productivity performance, the new Yale VM series effectively demonstrates Yale’s positioning as a leading electric battery powered materials handling equipment manufacturer.

New Yale VC Truck series complements electric counterbalance offering

Yale has extended its electric counterbalance product portfolio with the introduction of the ERP- 13–15 VC 1250kg and 1500kg capacity, three wheel forklift truck targeted specifically at the light to medium duty segment.

Daniel Heap, Product Strategy Manager Electric Counterbalance Trucks comments: “The new VC series follows in the mature footsteps of probably the most reliable fork lift truck in the world, the ERP10-15RCF. Our intention when designing the VC was to ensure that this reliability was retained but incorporate the essence of the extremely successful new Yale electric counterbalance range.

The VC Series has been designed specifically for light to medium duty pallet handling operations that require a cost effective material handling solution. This has been achieved by ensuring the truck is reliable by utilising high quality and proven components from our 8 different Yale electric counterbalance models. This ensures that purchasers of a truck from the VC series can be confident that servicing costs will be kept to a minimum and they will receive the high quality product they expect from Yale. This is immediately noticed when sitting on the truck.”

Best in class working aisle width

The VC series has a working aisle width of 3107mm with a 1,000mm x 1,200mm pallet and an overall width of 996mm which allows the truck to block-stack easily and efficiently load and unload

lorries and containers. Manoeuvrability is an extremely important consideration as it contributes to reducing load damage and also allows for better space utilisation.

The truck’s excellent manoeuvrability combined with a top speed of 12km per hour and lifting speed of 0.3 metres per second make it ideal for light to medium applications within logistics companies and in pallet handling operations.

The most compact truck in its class, the VC series allows the operator to move faster in restricted spaces while its new ‘Clear-view’ high visibility mast allows the operator to work more quickly when moving and positioning loads.

Ergonomically advanced

Although compact in design, the VC series has generous foot room for maximum comfort during operation. Yale’s full suspension seat contributes to industry leading Whole Body Vibration levels and its low noise levels ensure that the operator remains comfortable at all times contributing to increased productivity.

Optional equipment

Yale’s ‘AccuTouch’ mini lever module featuring angled cushioned arm and palm rest with fingertip control of levers, which is designed to help minimise repetitive strain injuries. and battery side removal will be rolled out following the product’s introduction.
