Do you have a Facebook Page set up and need to make it more dynamic? Me too. It is so easy to get overwhelmed. The best way for me around that is to focus on one thing at a time.

First focus, find a Facebook Coach.

In 2009 I went to The Twitter Conference L.A. 140tc and saw Mari Smith.¹

I created a folder in my bookmarks and added Mari’s three main sites:

Here is a list of action items found by just viewing her page:

3. Top of page is call to action to “Like” the page

We got all these action items by just looking at her page for 2 minutes. Feeling overwhelmed yet? I am.

I have directly linked to her “Welcome!” page and she has made this the default landing page for her Facebook page. Many people believe a welcome page is best as the first thing people see.

If you want a Facebook Vanity URL for your Facebook Page, I’ve read you need 25 “Fans” first. But once you do, go to http://Facebook.com/username and you can choose your Facebook Page Vanity URL.

I’m about to try something I’ve never done before, transfer a WordPress Blog database from one URL to another.

This blog is where I blog about my blogging. Kinda like a picture of a picture.

I currently have it a 4uqi.com and I would like to move it to YanceyG.com. I already have a blog at YanceyG.com so first I’m going to move it.

I’m going to put it at a sub-domain; tsteps.yanceyg.com.

Steps:

1. from Dashboard click “Tools” click “Export”

2. Click “Download Export File”

Now on the new blog

3. Click “Tools” click “Import”
WordPress Install the WordPress importer to import posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags from a WordPress export file.
You have to install the installer. (A picture of a picture again?)
4. Click “WordPress”

5. Click “Activate Plugin & Run Importer”
6. Choose the file you just exported
7. Click “Upload file and Import”

I’m starting a new project, Fans of Energy, which is a daily energy intention idea. I’ve got my Twitter page, FaceBook page, and now I’ve started my WordPress Blog.

I use MediaTemple as my hosting company and they have a nice one click install of WordPress. It actually took me three times before the install worked correctly. Satisfaction is when you see the basic WordPress template on your site:

Seeing the front end is exciting, I will be changing this up quite a bit. Let’s take a look at the back end. I went to the WordPress Dashboard:

Notice that there is a new version of WordPress available. Always update to the newest version. My first step.

I have always been successful just clicking the “Update Automatically.”

Did you notice there was a plug-in that needed upgrading as well? The Akismet Plugin helps with the spammers. The Akismet Plugin comes with WordPress for a reason, it works, I always have it updated and activated.

You read something on Twitter and you want to repeat it on your time line. This is called ReTweeting or as everyone shortens it to just RT.

Twitter is going to have this automated in a future release but for now, and then if you want to customize, you need to manual RT.

The convention is to include RT, @theauthors-username and sometimes the @source.

I’ve seen some Tweets with too many @’s crediting the whole chain of senders. This is nice but what if you don’t have the room or don’t want to include that many @’s? The best practice is to at least go back to the original source or author of the Tweet.

Formatting

If the Tweet is an original work of the author I like to put the RT @username at the first of the Tweet.

Here is an example where I RTed a poem.

If I RT an article I don’t feel the name should go in the front. I usually credit the source at the end by saying Via @source or Txs @source.
