On this episode of the Yanks Abroad Podcast, host Christopher McCollum is joined by the regular crew, Brian Sciaretta, John Kretlow and Jamie Hill, to discuss the latest happenings in American soccer.

The first segment of the show is dedicated to a post-emotional hangover breakdown of the San Pedro Sula loss, discussing team cohension, coaching malfunctions and where the team was found wanting.

The second segment of the show saw the panel welcome on special guest Troy Ready, a former player and now coach and technical director in Tajikistan. Ready went from playing with Vakhsh to being the assistant coach, and is now also working with the men’s and women’s National Teams in the Central Asian country.

For the third segment of the show, the panel looks at performances by Bobby Wood and Andrew Wooten in Germany, Steve Cherundolo’s surgery update and Timmy Chandler’s strong performance against Eintracht Frankfurt, which came days after a poor performance in the red, white, and blue. The show is concluded with an update on Brek Shea scoring his first goal (in exhibition play) with Stoke, and Mix Diskerud signing a new deal with Rosenborg.

On this episode of the Yanks Abroad Podcast, host Christopher McCollum is joined by regular panelists Brian Sciaretta, Jamie Hill and John Kretlow.

The show is kicked off with a discussion on the impending World Cup Qualifier against Honduras, and the first two segments of the show are dedicated to breaking down the story lines that will play out in San Pedro Sula.

The guys discuss the roster, the depth of the midfield, and then Timothy Chandler’s sincerity and Jozy Altidore’s production for AZ Alkmaar and whether or not it will finally convert over to National Team production.

After these topics are covered, the guys give their predictions of the result, and then move into grading the transfer window, focusing on Brek Shea, Maurice Edu, Jose Torres and Conor O’Brien.

The episode is concluded with a Rapid Fire question and answer segment, covering everything from Freddy Adu to youth develop, yellow cards to the left midfielder in Jurgen Kinsmann’s gameday lineup.

On this episode of the Yanks Abroad Podcast, host Christopher McCollum is joined by regular panelists Brian Sciaretta, John Kretlow and Jamie Hill in the first YA episode of 2013.

The first segment of the show is dedicated to England, with discussions on Stuart Holden’s return to reserve team action with Bolton, Clint Dempsey’s two-goal performance against Coventry and his statement that Tottenham can beat Manchester City in the standings. Next is a talk on Graham Zusi and Juan Agudelo trialing with West Ham, and how each would theoretically fit with the Hammers if a permanent move was made. The talk about England came to a sad conclusion with an update on Will Packwood’s horrific leg injury.

The next segment of the show moves to Northern Europe, where transfer news is discussed regarding Conor O’Brien and Mix Diskerud, a potentially bad financial situation with Clarence Goodson that could lead to a transfer, and a brief set of opinions about Michael Parkhurst’s move to Augsburg.

The talk then turns South of the Border where Herculez Gomez scored for Santos Laguna in the Clausura opener, four Americans featured in the Puebla vs. Tijuana game, and U.S. U-20 player Daniel Cuevas’ potential rise to Santos’ first team in the near future.

The show is concluded with a brief discussion on the National Team camp, with some surprising call-ups and some surprising snubs, followed by answering some questions from listeners.

On this episode of the Yanks Abroad Podcast, host Christopher McCollum is joined by regular panelists Brian Sciaretta, Jamie Hill and John Kretlow, as well as special guest Danijal Brkovic, an American forward for FK Zeljeznicar, sitting in the Bosnian Premier League’s top spot.

The first segment of the show features Brkovic talking about soccer and life in Bosnia, his experiences with his new team as well as his transition from a high school player in Binghamton, NY to a professional player for Velez Mostar and participating in one of Europe’s most dangerous derbies against Zrinjski Mostar.

The second segment of the show is taken up with highlights and lowlights of recent results in England and Germany, with attention paid to Aston Villa’s victory over Liverpool, and the continued woes of Hoffenheim. From there, the discussion moves to Oguchi Onyewu’s goal for Malaga against Eibar in Copa del Rey action, and then to Jozy Altidore’s run of three goals in the past four days.

The panel moves on to a brief talk about Aron Johansson and his acceptance of an offer to attend the January camp for the National Team as a spectator to observe the program, before a hernia forced him to withdraw in order to focus on healing.

The show is concluded with a discussion of Mikkel Diskerud’s potential move to the Portland Timbers, and what that move would mean for him, the team, and the league.

On this episode of the Yanks Abroad Podcast, host Brian Sciaretta fills in for Christopher McCollum who took the night off after sparks started shooting out of his computer. Brian was joined by John Kretlow and Jamie Hill to discuss the usual array of topics ranging from club news to National Team news. To start the show off, the panel was joined by special guest Cobi Span, of Djurgardens IF in Sweden. Span just completed his first professional season, where he played on the left wing for the mid-pack team. Span talks about his time in Sweden, and the move from the University of Virginia to a professional career for the first segment of the show. During the second segment, the guys have a panel discussion on the upcoming opening of the winter transfer window, discussing Michael Parkhurst and Conor O'Brien's seemingly imminent moves, as their contracts with their current teams ended with their last games. In addition to these two players, there is also discussion around a host of other players including Bryan Gerzicich from Israel's reigning Champions, Ironi Kiryat Shmona. The talk then moves to Adam Henley, as Brian discusses the hot news topic of the day. Henley received an invitation to the U.S. U-20 camp, and was reportedly considering the offer until Blackburn put a stop to the potential plans, needing him present to fulfill his duties as a starting defender. Considering Henley's potential and his dual national status, there will be a lot of eyes on the young Welsh American as he inches closer to deciding his international future. The show is concluded with a discusion on the U-20 team and a look at some of the potential roster selections, as well as a brief gripe about Hertha Berlin's reluctance to let John Anthony Brooks join a camp.

The show begins with a half hour segment celebrating Tijuana's championship in the Apertura, discussing the play of the team, the role of the Americans on the team, and the marketing prospects North of the Border for Tijuana as they seek to become one of the giants in Mexican soccer. The second segment of the show is began with a rundown of other Americans who have won their leagues in the 2012 calendar year, which includes Sacha Kljestan, Michael Parkhurst, Josh Gatt, and Bryan Gerzicich, with the possible addition of Terrence Boyd and Borussia Dortmund's reserves winning their league. The show is continued with a focus on MLS, discussing the loan of Zach Pfeffer to Hoffenheim and what it says about the MLS Academy system, and then the conversation turns to George John and Matt Besler extending their contracts with FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City, respectively. The show is concluded with John's lament of Houston's loss in the MLS Cup, which had an amusing text dialogue from Jamie in the studio chatroom from that went like this: Dear John, Get over it Love, The New England Revolution The show is wrapped up with a couple questions from listeners during the Rapid Fire segment, including the European-based player next expected to see capped, and whether or not Joe Corona and Mix Diskerud will start a World Cup Qualifier next year.

In the return episode of the Yanks Abroad Podcast, host Christopher McCollum is joined by teammates Brian Sciaretta, Jamie Hill and Mathew Wagner to catch up on American soccer news from around the world. The first segment of the show is dedicated to the epic comeback story of Bobby Wood who made his first career start for 1860 Munich after appearing to be done with soccer forever after a series of injuries took him out of duty and out of shape for a long period of time. The second segment of the show was spent discussing another U-20 player in Germany who is eligible for the United States, Shawn Parker. The German-American forward was recently called into the German U-20 squad where he scored a goal, and he did the same thing for Mainz today. To go with his goal, he also picked up an assist. Jurgen Klinsmann has been in personal contact with Parker, but getting the young phenom to switch has been an elusive goal. Following the talk of German-based talent, the conversation moved to England where Brad Guzan, Seb Hines and Clint Dempsey were the focus of conversation after good games from all three this week helped their teams out. After discussing Dempsey's game against West Ham, a random conversation came up comparing the Texan's competitiveness to Michael Bradley's competitiveness, where the conclusion seemed to be that Bradley was more competitive but Dempsey makes better faces. To conclude the show, the panel moved across the Atlantic to Mexico to break down Tijuana's miracle comeback against Leon to advance to the finals of the Apertura against Toluca. The Tijuana conversation included the importance of the club to Southern California and its long term viability. Included in the Mexican segment is a brief discussion on Jose Torres' transfer from Pachuca to Tigres. The show is concluded with a short talk about the upcoming MLS Cup, what the Galaxy means to MLS and American soccer, and what the future may look like with the team as some of the stars wink out.

Moving into the second half of the show, the pace quickened up and topics of the Norwegian and Mexican title chases are brought up, as well as looks at Alex Smith in the A-League, Maurice Edu's continued problems at Stoke, and the expiring contracts of Alejandro Bedoya, Mix Diskerud and Conor O'Brien. The opening half hour of the show is dedicated to National Team roster news, with opinions being tossed back and forth regarding Jozy Altidore and Alan Gordon, with segues into Fabian Johnson, Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson and plenty of others. The most attention is granted to Altidore's absence from the roster, and the end conclusion is more or less agreed upon, though there were some key differences in opinion. Former GolTV commentator and current beIN Sports personality Phil Schoen joined the panel as a special guest to discuss a variety of topics. First on the agenda for the show was a discussion on the new Yanks Abroad website set to be released within the next couple of days, and then the conversation turned to goal line technology. A spirited debate between Brian and Phil is had, with no clear victor at the end. Up next was a discussion of Timothy Chandler and where Phil thinks he stands with Germany and the United States. To finish off the conversation with Phil, talk turns to players he expects to see travel to Azteca to play Mexico, and who he sees coming out of MLS to join up with the National Team in the near future. The show concludes with an update on the Glasgow Rangers situation, with the current word being that the old club is dead, and the new club may not even be accepted into the Scottish Football Association's ranks, let alone get back into the Premier League.

In the first Special Edition episode of the Yanks Abroad Podcast, Christopher McCollum gathers together YA writers Brian Sciaretta and John Kretlow and YA stat manager Jamie Hill for a short-notice show to analyze Jurgen Klinsmann’s roster announcement. The roster, which was announced earlier in the day, was an immediate hot topic issue as several key players were left off, and Timmy Chandler announced that he wanted to take a break from international soccer.

The hour long discussion is started off with global recaps from Mexico to Norway, featuring everywhere in between. The promotion and relegation battles are heating up in Europe while the playoffs are approaching in Mexico and underway in Belgium. The group discusses Bolton’s fight to stay in the Premier League, and Chris Pontius, Graham Zusi and C.J. Sapong’s chances of getting a National Team call up next month, which plays into Brian’s speculation on Jurgen Klinsmann’s roster selections for the upcoming friendlies. In the midst of this, the group pays homage to Brad Friedel, who made his 300th consecutive Premier League start for Tottenham. Afterwards, the conversation moves to injury updates of Danny Williams, Jonathan Spector, Robbie Rogers, Robbie Findley, Josh Gatt, and Zak Whitbread while discussing return times and the importance of their injury to their clubs and country. Contract updates are discussed next, with Timothy Chandler’s extension at Nurnberg being the main subject, while also touching on Andrew Wooten who was named by one publication to the Bundesliga Team of the Week, and Zak Whitbread, who is believed by Jamie and Brian to be moving to a new team next season, possibly in the Championship. The show is concluded with discussion on John Anthony Brooks’ future with Hertha Berlin, as he has been moving from the reserve team to the U-19 team. What this means in the big picture is speculated on by Jamie and brought the show to a close.
