I first saw this video a year back. Was highly motivated by it and it still continues to motivate me. Many  of you may have seen it earlier but this is for ones who have not yet seen it. This is a beautiful speech by Jobs   and is a must watch for everybody.

P.S. NSO 2011 results had been declared a while back. Check them here. I couldn’t qualify for NSO. IMO results haven’t been out yet and the way it went, the chances are quite low of me getting through the IInd level. It says the IInd level of NCO 2011 is on 12th February! Prepare well guys!

NSTSE results were too declared. Missed the IInd level qualification with 1 mark! Got 82. AIR 644 and state rank 42.  So results in 2012 haven’t been quite upto mark!

You have access to the previous years papers of the Open Merit Junior Science Talent Search Examination which I think most of the others scholars didn’t have.

I have uploaded  5 papers in all as promised to the netizens here. Hope so it doesn’t attract DOE’s attention.These papers here are to give you guys an idea about how the JSTS paper comes.I am not saying the paper will exactly be like this. It can change. But remember, even if there are say 20-40 questions coming up from here, not only you but everybody knows that. So the difference will be your hard work put into the preparation. Do not simply mug up the questions here.These are only to tell you how the paper comes.  Practice hard fellas!

This post is a week late! Sorry for the inevitable delay

I was in Goa for the new year celebrating with my family. Just checking my mail through my dad’s blackberry when I saw a mail whose subject was JSTS results! Many people had also commented that the results have come out.

Heart rate : 80 bps ————-> 140 bps

Saw the results. Cleared the Open Merit Junior Science Talent Search Search Examination with a rank of 119 with 152 other candidates. Was a little bit disappointed with my rank but understood that may have been proportional to my doings in the written examination.

Anyway it has been a long wait from the interview day on 13th of July 2011. The usual results  come out in September. There were lots of speculation on my blogs as to when the results would have been declared. To see the speculation see the posts on JSTS.

They were all proved wrong….

September went away, October came and gone, November came and gone. Same would have been the fate of December but the DOE ( not the Department of Energy)  thought that lets stop torturing these kids and give them a new years gift. There were even thoughts in my mind that DOE had forgotten about this or that we were the doomed batch.

“But All’s well that ends well”

The interesting thing was that all the students cleared the interview which I think is the first time.Thus interview was just a formality.Haven’t written about my interview yet but intend to do so.

This ends the JSTS story for me. The top 100 ranks would get a sum of 2000/- and the next 53 would get a sum of 1000/-

This year has been a good one for me and I hope 2012 is even more better. It has been journey full of ups and downs, failures ans successes….. but this is life. I hope the new year brings good luck to all!

I know this post is a little late but that was due to my not being in Delhi and out of contact with the interwebzz. Had a bash in Goa!

The “Enlightened” One

The results were declared and my friend Udayin called up to tell me about it. I frantically opened up the website. BTW you can check the results here : http://www.sofworld.org/nco .  The textbox asking for the roll number is on the right hand side. I didn’t remember my roll number. I checked the NCO Paper and to my disgust I had written onl;y the last 5 digits. It seemed relevant to take a note of only the last 5 digits then as the else were some school shit.

How Wrong Can I Be

I asked Udayin the school code and then typed in my 11 digit roll number. The server responded with the following page saying:

      NCO – level 1 exam.
  3. Top 10 rank holders from each class in 20 select states

I breathed a sigh of relief.

I got involved with my Final examinations and one day I get to know that my induction class is on the day before the deadly  Social Studies examination. So I was not able to go my induction class as my course was not complete. They sent me two modules (they like to call their study material modules) via courier. Those were the Class Xth Math Genii modules. We were given 2 modules at first.

Anyway the first class was on 7th of May and via SMS they sent me on my roll number and batch. The first class was on Quadratic Equations and it was taken by Vivek Bhaiya. We are supposed to call our teachers ‘Bhaiya’. I reached the Pitampura Centre and the centre was amazing. There are about 6-8 lecture rooms and each of them are centrally air-conditioned. The chairs are comfortable and the rooms are equipped with a white board, different colour markers, a projector and a Mic. Then my next 2 classes were taken by Shubham Bhaiya. The classes are generally 3 hours long.  The classes are very interesting. But the more important thing is before you go for a class you should study beforehand. It is no point that you go to a class without studying. And VMC emphasizes a lot on self-study. And they tell you about your next class at the end of each class. If you even miss a class you can sit in any other class too (after taking their permission beforehand). Sandeep Bhaiya is the coordinator there. He is friendly and a nice chap. He manages the whole thing and schedules the classes.

Our JEE course was started in mid June (the batch insisted that they wanted to start with the JEE syllabus). So after about 7 months, so far we have completed 3 chapters in Physics, 3 in chemistry and 2 in maths. I say below my expectation of completing 2 modules each. We had about 2 class tests in total which were kinda informal and one 3.0-HRT in November  I completely messed that up. Big time.   And students were selected in FCC  on the basis of October 16 2011 Admission Test and the HRT. In total about 80 students were offered the FCC from the AimIIT lot from all the centres. The rest had the option to appear in January 8 2012 test ( where about 100 students in total, i.e. from the total students appearing including the general public too, were selected) and I hear there is another admission test on 7th April 2012.

My advice would be that even if you want to take admission in VMC take it in the Pitampura center even if some other center is closer to you.  But it’s completely for you to decide. They gave us the other 3 MathGenii modules too and we had the option to appear in the MathGenii tests too. The 2 admission test papers in October 11 and January 12 had no higher level questions. Paper was Maths only. 50 questions. Different marking scheme both the times. Questions needed 10th’s syllabus only and just a bit of mental ability to be applied.
