However, this doesn’t mean Apple has been dislodged from its formidable position as it is still regarded as one of the most reliable and successful platform for mobile devices.

According to the numbers, Android apps have overtaken Apple’s as it accounts for 44 percent of the applications, compared to 31 percent share from Apple. The numbers have risen sharply for Android as more people are moving from other platforms to Android, thanks to the increasing number of Android-based gadgets in the market. However, if we talk in terms of quality of apps then Apple scores over Android as it closely monitors the quality of apps, while Android is an open market. Anyone can upload his/her Android application on the Android app store and there is a plethora of low-quality apps there. This means you might have to spend more time in finding the best Android app for your device while trying your hands on different applications that serve the same purpose. Apple might have lagged behind in terms of numbers, but has some of the major app development companies selling on its app store. It remains to be a more serious market for the commercial apps.

Android being an open-platform to develop and sell apps offers more opportunities and freedom in terms of apps development. On the other hand, if you have developed an app for the iPhone or iPad you might have to wait for few weeks to get it approved. Samsung Galaxy is a large series of Tablet PCs and Smartphones. Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets are very popular in Saudi Arabia. Galaxy Tab is an android based tablet PC. It comes in many screen sizes. Like 7 inch, 8.9 inch and 10.1 inch. The biggest Samsung Galaxy Tab with 10.1 inch screen is recently introduced in Saudi Arabia. STC and Jarir Book Store already launched it and other retailers are expected to launch it soon.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a light weight device with 800 x 1280 pixels screen resolution. The screen is TFT with 16 M color support. The device also have touch sensitive controls in its front panel.

It is powered by 1GHz dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and Android OS 3.1 (Honeycomb). However there is no camera upgrade in this device. It has same camera as Galaxy Tab P1000 has. Following are the prices.

How to Cancel Facebook SMS Subscription

Facebook has a great notification system that send you Email and SMS notifications when your friends post any updates on the Facebook. However sometime these notification might annoy you because they could be up to 50/day when you have a bunch of friends on Facebook. It is easy to stop these notifications whether they are Email notifications or SMS notifications from your Facebook account setting. It is explained well here.

However when it comes to SMS notifications charged by Mobile Network Providers its not that simple. I have experienced it. I subscribed to Facebook SMS notifications on my STC prepaid Sim and after I find a lot of SMS in my mobile I turned it off from Facebook Account setting.

Then I got satisfied that now I will not be disturbed by these boring messages. But it was surprising for me when STC deducted 3 Saudi Riyal from my mobile balance next week.

You are still registered to STC Facebook sms service.

I thought probably STC didn't update their computers right now so I was charged. But STC kept deducting 3SR every week for the next two months. I was very busy those days so I didn't bother taking any action against it. Few times I tried to contact STC customer help line at 902 to let them solve this issue but due to long waiting time from STC customer service to respond, this matter never resolved.

However when STC deducted 3SR again last night It annoyed me and I thought even I have to wait for half an hour I must contact the help line. I dialed 902, then pressed 2 for English, then 3 for technical support and then 9 to speak to their agent. After 10 min STC customer support guy responded and I told him the issue. Because most of these guys are native Arabic speakers so it is a little hard to explain them in English. That's why it took me few minutes to make him understand. Once he understood he told me a simple solution

Send an SMS containing letter U (capital) to 86677 and your subscription will be cancelled immediately.

After doing that I have received 3 to 4 messages from STC about cancellation of STC Facebook Subscription. Users of other companies like Mobily and Zain can also try the same procedure for cancelling Mobile Facebook Subscription or Zain Facebook Subscription and stop receiving sms and stop bearing unnecessary charges.

Here are the HTC Prices for the Month of September, 2011. These prices has been collected manually and from Internet too and the least prices were picked up amongest all Suppliers like Nasa Smart Devices, Jarir Book Store, Hyper Panda, Extra Stores and Haddad Telecom.

I have also checked the prices from Mobile Network operators like STC, Mobily and Zain but no extra ordinary promotions are available currently.

STC is not offering any HTC device as we can see at STC website in Jawal Devices section. However in one of the banner they used to show HTC HD7.
Mobily is offering HTC ChaCha but they didn't write the price online.
Zain Saudi Arabia only offers Nokia devices and BlackBerry device at their website, They didn't put any information on the web page, instead they offer a PDF brochure that has all the information regarding mobile devices. You may download the PDF from this web page.

The latest Android based smartphone HTC EVO 3D is released in Saudi Arabia by Smartphones retailer Nasa Smart Devices. The most amazing and modern feature in HTC EVO 3D is its ability to capture three dimensional pictures with its dual camera. EVO 3D has 2 different cameras at its rear side that make it possible to take 3D photos. It also has Qualcomm 1 GHz dual core processor that helps capturing high quality 2D and 3D pictures. Not only pictures but it can record a stunning 720p video in 3D.

EVO3D is powered by Android OS version 2.3 that is most favorite mobile operating system these days. It has 1 GB Ram and 1 GB internal storage and also a micro SD slot that supports up to 32 GB of microSD cards.

There is also a front camera in EVO 3D that is useful if you like to make video calls. Probabaly a small lacking in EVO 3D is, it doesn't support 4G networks. As we know that recently almost all the mobile operators in Saudi Arabia have introduced 4G network in Saudi Arabia so it might be a plus if EVO supports 4G networks.

The initial price of HTC EVO 3D in Saudi Arabia is 2890 Saudi Riyal which is a littler higher than HTC Sensation, however it is more powerful and superior from features than HTC Sensation.

Everyone Claims First One to Launch 4G in Saudi Arabia

It seems quite funny when we look on to the websites of all 3 Mobile Network operators in Saudi Arabia (STC, Mobily and Zain) where they highlighted, "They are the First one to launch 4G (4th Generation) Network in Saudi Arabia. I don't know who we should believe now. You can see a snapshot of the banners placed on the websites of the Mobile Network Operators in Saudi Arabia.

However upon further investigation I found that it is STC who is basically behind all this. They have started testing this in beginning of 2010 and keep on testing it and after successfully completing this they have launched it.
This technology enhances the capacity and effectiveness of Mobile Network and gets the Internet download speed to 100 Mbps. The 4th generation technology also provides better connectivity while travelling at great speed in a train or bus.

The new LTE technology provides other attractive features such as high quality performance especially for mobile telecommunications at very high speeds and assists operators to enhance network capacity and strengthen network performance as the technology is 3 to 4 times efficient in terms of HSPA capability and is 2 to 3 times when transmitting data.

Mobily launched 4G with its Connect USB Device and Broadband Internet Modem for home, Connect is now called Connect 4G. Additionally if a customer subscribes for 12 months, he/she can get a gift of additional 3 months subscription. Mobily also announced that this service is not available in all the cities and the quantity of available subscriptions is limited. (Probably that is a marketing techtic to improve sales).

I didn't find much detail on Zain's website except the banner of 4G LTE Technology that brings High Speed Internet. Apple iPad 2 Prices and Availability in Saudi Arabia

Apple iPad 2 is available in a Wifi only model and Wifi+3G model that is obviously more expensive than the wifi only model. It is about 607 grams in weight in all 3 Storage sizes (16GB, 32GB, 64). The funny thing about this is 64 GB can hold more than 3 times more photos and videos than 16GB but still both of them would have same weight. :-)

HTC ChaCha Arabic Keyboard in High Resolution

Few days ago I got to design a flyer for latest HTC's smartphone HTC ChaCha. Actually it was for Middle Eastern community who read and understand Arabic language. For the sake of a printed flyer I got to prepare HTC ChaCha Arabic keyboard in High resolution. I tried to look for it on Photo banks and free photo sharing sites but it seems to me that only I am the one who require it, No body else needed it ever. After not finding it online, I took few pictures of HTC ChaCha Arabic keyboard as it was made available to me that time and then imported that photos in Photoshop but the idea didn't work because those photos were very poor quality and cannot be used in a Print ad.

So finally I created the Arabic Keyboard for ChaCha in Adobe Photoshop in high resolution specially for the advertisement. Now the flyer which I designed is printed.So I thought I should share the High resolution Arabic keyboard with other people too, so that people can utilize it in their designs if they need it.

I discovered there are two types of iPhone 4 available in the Saudi Arabian market. There is one that includes FaceTime Application. An Application for video calls and video chatting. The one that includes Facetimes is about 400 Saudi Riyal expensive than the one comes without Facetime.

HTC ChaCha and Nokia E6 are the smartphones that are very close in their specification and features but different in brands. Both of them have similar look, similar QWERTY keyboard and screen sizes. Both of them were announced during very close time period, i.e. early in 2011. As I am also a big fan of QWERTY keyboard as I have hands on experience on Nokia E71 and E72, so I thought to compare latest offers from HTC and Nokia with each other. The comparison would not go long in speach but it would be a specification comparison like the one I did for iPhone 4 and Desire HD.

This time I have tried a new format. Below is the table that shows specification of both smartphones ChaCha and E6 and in the next column you will find my comments. You will find a shade of green color in the row where I gave more rating to HTC ChaCha and Where Nokia E6 has more rating the row color would be a shade of pink. However where row color is white or no-color, it means none of the smartphones have any advantage over other one. Finally I must say, it is a Human compiled comparison so there might be a chance of error. So please correct me if you find something to correct.

Beside a few advantages of Nokia E6 over HTC ChaCha I must say HTC ChaCha is a better smartphone than Nokia E6. The best thing in ChaCha is Operating system advantage. Android operating system is growing quickly these days. It has a huge collection of apps at Android market. That is much much better than Nokia Ovi Store as per my opinion. Nokia must think of improving their operating system to something that is now in. Let's see what nokia will do in future. At the end I must say thanks to GSM Arena for providing me the specification of both these devices.
