My First Train Journey to Shimla

2011-08-22T18:49:00.002+05:30

Langur Rescued in Rishikesh

2011-08-02T12:45:00.000+05:30

While on my bike trip to Rishikesh on 24-July-11, I had just entered Rishikesh and to welcome me this Langur or Hanuman Langur fell right in front on my bike with a thump from a tree. "He is dead" this came to my mind.

I looked above and saw a group of monkeys on the tree about 50feet above my head. They were restless and were shouting in anger. I lost no time and took out my camera.

This is what I captured.

I figured out that this Langur was fighting one of those monkey and lost his balance in the process.

Then the real magic started to happen.

To my amazement and very unlike Delhi or big cities where people do not stop even if a person is lying injured on street, here street vendors selling fruits, vegetable and other items rushed to rescue this probably dead or almost dead Langur.

I was not aware how to handle the situation and was sure that he is dead. So I kept clicking to capture the efforts made by people.

One man came running with water and poured it over his head.

The lady in red saree who was a fruit seller came with plastic sheet and started to wave it for the Langur to allow him more oxygen.

Another started massaging his head.

All were strangers but they were working as a team to save the Langur.

The traffic stopped on both sides without anyone telling them to stop. The Langur was picked and placed on the street side.

This lady who was a fruit seller was with him the whole time.

But the way he stared in blank and with blood coming out of his nose and mouth, the chances of his survival were very thin.

Then the unexpected happened.

Within 10 minutes this Langur, traumatized and in pain, raised his head and tried to see what is happening around but could not move his body.

He looked at the lady with gratitude who stood there the whole time to make sure he is ok.

I could see the pain in his eyes.

The monkeys had gone and his fellow Langurs were all over the place to check on him but they didnt come near the Langur due to human presence.
People then started moving away thinking that he might want to leave.

But I was still not sure and waited there and kept clicking.

Within next 15 mins he was on his own but he started walking with difficulty but because of the people and their effort this Langur was alive and I could see him moving up slowly but had to leave as the traffic was jammed due to this incident.

Cops asked me to move and I left with a positive feeling and this thought in my mind

"Virender, What a welcome!"

I hope that this Langur would always remember these people and specially the lady.

Rishikesh has always been my favourite and this incident has added to the respect I have for this place.

:-)

BLESS YOU GOD!

2011-08-01T20:41:00.001+05:30

God Bless All but who will bless GOD? This was the question I had when I parked my bike in Haridwar to cover the Kanwaria season.

It was very sad to see that when during the Saawan or Monsoon month whole Haridwar is chanting Lord Shiv's name and more than 100 thousand Kanwarias are present there these statues which were once bowed and worshiped are in a condition and place hard to imagine.

They were lying few hundred feets away from the famous Shiv statue. It was hard for me to stand here due to stink which was like hell and I almost puked.

People were washing clothes and defecating feets away and cleansing themselves after the nature's call. I was no more interested in covering the Kanwar season.

Its not good for the image of a holy city like Haridwar but not good for the aesthetics of River Ganga as well .Government should have a proper procedure to dispose these off in a respectable and environmental friendly manner.
