Something to share -10 March 2012

I call my parents today on skype where they lived in a small town just outside KL, Malaysia. My parents doesn't have a computer so they can't see my blog and my picture. I'm super excited that l'm visiting them this year and telling them how important internet have been in our daily life. I did webcam with them when they visiting my sister so they did see my handmade pillow and they are happy and supporting.

I feel so much better after talking to them. I was feeling defeated maybe because i want mentally support and after talking to my mum i feel i can achieve anything i want if i work hard and not giving up.

I always forget to ask my mum how she learn sewing every time i phoned her. Today, i remember and ask her and i found out that she also self-taught and brought herself a sewing machine just like me. I can't express how great feeling i feel inside. Those day they don't have alot of sewing classes in the 1950's and it not cheap. My mum have very little education as she came from a poor family so to learn in English is definitely impossible. So, my thought is she learn sewing with others friends and apply for a factory job in her early 20s.

I'm going to take lots of picture of my mum, her Singer paddling sewing machine ( i don't know what model) and also the tote bag & string pouch i made for both of them as i sent it via Air Mail. I haven't seen them nearly 3.5 years since 2008. Also, the Hello Kitty sling bag i made for my niece, i want to give her and i haven't seen her since her birth in 2010.

This is something i want to say and hope you enjoy reading.

How i started (My Story)

2012-01-02T09:45:00.000-08:00

I was meaty that time! Lost some pounds since 2010

I first started my interest in sewing in late 2010, I'm a very impatience person and as most people would say that sewing require alot of patience and i dont have that in me. My mum has been a sewer in her early 20s (now age 67) and work for a small factory about 10 years and quit her job after having my elder sister and my brother (I'm the youngest). I guess i inherited my mom hobbies at age 34. She very good at sewing curtain and sewing pouches, bags etc. When I'm little, I wasn't interest in sewing at all especially seeing my mom manually thread the needles with her super small eyes and patiently try again and again till she threads the needle hole. We don't have sewing machine in those days that can auto thread your sewing needle. She still have the manual peddle Singer Machine(which i look forward to use when I'm visiting them this year). Ocassionally, she hand sewing some of the curtain seam allowance and lace.

My passion for sewing grow unexpectedly,my mum didn't really taught me but she give me inspiration and i found my true passion after all this while when watching her sew when I'm little. I remember when my mum made me a small coin bag whenever there is crime around our town. I find everything she made really good and she proud of her work and I'm proud that her passion for sewing continue in me.

This is my story and hope this give others inspiration that it never too late to realize your talent and follow your hearts when your mind say it is impossible.

Thank you for reading and best wishes 2012
