When To Use Microsoft Access And Excel

There are different reasons why one would select Access over Excel, or select Excel over Access. Microsoft Access is a database (used for storing data and analysing data) and Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet (used for calculations).

Data — everything your business does depends on it. Whether it’s sales figures, performances stats, or daily management of your inventor — Data is the key element. So, you need to be sure that you are handling your data properly. Most businesses use to main systems to manage their data — Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.

They both work well with respects to managing data, but they are good at different things. There are times when selecting one over the other is better.

Microsoft Access is better when you need to understand how one piece of data relates to a number of different variables. Access is a relational database, which means it uses multiple databases at once and manages your data from within the program. Where Access really shines is with it reporting features.

By holding the right shift key down for eight seconds you can toggle the filter on and off
By using the PRTSCRN (Print Screen) button you can toggle the high contrast on and off. You can also use the left ALT + left Shift + Print Screen keys to achieve the same thing
By using the left ALT + left shift + num lock keys you can toggle the mouse on and off
By hitting the shift key 5 times you can toggle the sticky keys on and off
By holding the num lock key for 5 sec you can turn on or off the toggle key feature
By using the windows logo key + the U you can open the “Ease of Access Center” screen

Common Windows Vista Keyboard Shortcuts

Need help? Hit the F1 key
CTRL + C allows you to copy the selected item
CTRL + X allows you to cut a selected item
CTRL + V allows you to paste a selected item
CRTL + Z allows you to undo your previous action
CRTL + Y allows you to redo your previous action
Using the delete key allows you to move the selected item to the recycle bin
Shift + Delete allows you to bypass the recycle bin - (permanent deleting the selected item)

ALT + enter allows you to see the properties of the selected item
ALT + the spacebar open all the shortcuts accessible on the active window
CTRL + F4 allows you to exit the active window. By hitting this combo again you can close Windows Vista
ALT + Tab allows you to switch between open and active windows
CTRL + ALT + tab allows you to use the arrow keys on the number pad to switch between open items on your screen
CTRL + Scrolling allows you to change the size of the active item
Windows logo key + tab activates the Flip 3-D feature

ALT + ESC allows you to access programs in the order that they were open
Using the F4 key to see the address bar of item in Windows Explorer
Shift + F10 allows you to see the accessible shortcut menu for a selected item
CTRL + ESC opens the start menu from any location
Use F5 to fresh you screen or current program screen
ESC allows you to cancel the current task
