Those who want to explore this country’s roots may want to visit a group of destinations that showcase the role of agriculture-yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In 1836, JohnDeere, a blacksmith from Vermont, set up shop in the small Rock River town of Grand Detour, Ill. Convinced the sticky Midwestern soil required a special kind of plow, he forged one in 1837. His “self-polishing” plow grew in popularity and, as it did, so did the company that bears his name.

Today, visitors to the JohnDeere Historic Site can watch a blacksmith at work in a replica of the blacksmith’s shop where Deere fashioned his historic plow. The site also features the home JohnDeere built, a gift shop and an archaeological exhibit that shows the site of JohnDeere’s original blacksmith shop.

The JohnDeere Pavilion located in Moline, Ill. is considered one of the top five tourist attractions in the state and has welcomed guests from all 50 states and dozens of countries. It offers vintage and modern-day equipment and interactive exhibits devoted to the development of the company and agriculture around the world.

One exhibit answers a child’s question about where food comes from, while a 40-inch touch-screen display offers visitors a vision of the future of agriculture and the challenges of feeding the global population of tomorrow. A feature film called “Anthem: A Song of the Land” salutes the dedicated work of farm families worldwide.

The adjacent John Deere Store is a one-of-a-kind retail shop offering hundreds of unique, officially licensed John Deere products.

Also in Moline, the John Deere Collectors Center is the primary resource for enthusiasts and collectors interested in the history and heritage of the company and the collection of John Deere tractors, equipment and memorabilia.

It includes a living history exhibit that replicates a 1950s era dealership, complete with a customer service department to answer questions about parts and manuals for vintage equipment. The Center also hosts auctions and seminars and has an active tractor restoration area.

Recently, these destinations instituted a facility rental program, opening up the attractions to those looking for a unique location to hold a special event, such as a reception or company meeting.

The company also offers event planners and local caterers who work with groups to plan parties. Other sites to visit include the Deere family homes and Deere & Company’s World Headquarters.

You dont need a Miss Manners at sea to know there are some basic, common sense rules of etiquette for cruising. No, there is no handbook on it, but the key words here are common sense. For some less thoughtful folks onboard, taking a vacation means taking a break from using their brains.

Picture a cruise ship like a floating village or small town at sea. As with any unfamiliar place you go to, you should get to know the lay of the land, so to speak. No one is going to be just like you; people from all over the world, from different cultures and religions are sharing the same floating space as you are. Everyone should learn how to live in harmony for this short stay so that all of you will have the best vacation possible.

Some cruisers have been to their share of ports and know what to do. However, newbies need to pay some attention to their surroundings. Read the literature about the ships activities. And if there is any doubt about something, ask a member of the cruise ships personnel. Now, lets talk about some of those unspoken shipboard rules:

Cool it with the complaints You are on vacation! Nothing is more unattractive than a grown-up whining like a child over something like waiting in line. You know that saying When in Rome? Well, it is your vacation. No worries, no deadlines, no being late to anything youre on a ship and nothing on board is going anywhere. Say hi to the people next to you; challenge someone to a game of paper, scissors, rock to break up the monotony.

Respect the Dress Code Guidelines Cruise ships will often post some clothing guidelines for dinner or live entertainment for that day. If you dont follow the guidelines, you will not be thrown off the ship. However, you would feel mighty uncomfortable wearing your Bermuda shorts and flip flops to a semi-formal dinner or dance.

Say so long to the seat savers and line cutters- It is a bit exasperating to take the time to arrive at a decent hour to catch the next lounge act only to have a sea of coats draped over chairs and no bodies in the seats. And line cutters, shame on you. It is one thing for you to stand in line and have your spouse join you after a quick trip to the rest room. It is a whole new ballgame letting in your twenty newfound friends from the poker tables cut in line.

No hogging of the gym equipment/hot tub/lounge chairs/computers, etc. There are possibly several thousand other people who at some point want to use stationary bike or hot tub privileges. Be mindful of others who are discreetly waiting without complaint for their turn.

Designated smoking areas There are specific areas just for smokers on board. Do not be selfish and light up at the dining room table while others are eating. Heres a big clue: if you see ash trays, you can light up.

These unspoken rules sound perfectly logical dont they? Yet, some cruisers forget themselves in their quest for a good time and other people suffer for it. If you are unsure of something, ask. Let your common sense rule. And dont worry, it wont get in the way of your good time.

Sea Eagle.com is well known for their inflatable whitewater and ocean kayaks. The manufacturer offers a complete line of sea kayak accessories. Some of these accessory items are essential for your safety on the ocean or whitewater trips, others fit into the fun category.

Some of the most common inflatable ocean kayak accessory items include:
Life jackets and paddling vests Coast Guard approved PFDs are a must for owners of inflatable boats and kayaks.

Inflator pump You can inflate your sea kayak with a hand operated pump. A 110 V high volume inflator/deflator makes the job easier and faster.

Repair kit for kayaks This is an essential accessory item in case the kayak develops a leak. The kit contains two patches of the hull material, glue and a valve replacement tool.

Bilge pump A high volume hand operated bilge pump is essential for getting the water out of the inflatable when on the water.

Storage bags for bow and stern Great boating accessories for storing your supplies and gear.

Kayak carry bag Deflate and roll up the inflatable sea kayak, then place it on the bag and wrap the bag around it for easy storage.

Seats Its nice to have a seat with a back rest in your ocean kayak for long paddling or rowing. These Deluxe seats are very comfortable
Although there are many more types of accessories you can get for your inflatable ocean kayak, this will give you an idea of what is available.

The most important accessory on the above list is the life jacket or personal flotation device (PFD). A PFD is not considered an accessory for any boat, whether it is an ocean kayak or a dinghy. It is an essential part of any sea kayaking equipment and you should never go out in any inflatable without wearing a Coast Guard approved life vest.

The second most important inflatable boat accessory is your hull repair kit. Although Sea Eagle has a small patch kit for minor repairs there is a better inflatable ocean kayak repair kit available for bigger jobs from Tuff Coat. Most if not all of these boating accessories can be bought from the manufacturer or retailer where you bought the kayak.

For most people, trying to get a good rate on airfare is a necessity. Most people spend the bulk of their vacation dollars on airfare. So it’s a good idea to put in the time necessary to finding a better deal.

There are a few things to keep in mind while you’re researching that will save you a good bit of money. So these tips will help with getting better prices.

Be as flexible as you can

If you can leave a few days earlier or later, you can often save significantly, because cheaper tickets may still be available on a less popular day. Try to avoid the days most business people like to travel. For example, Tuesdays and Wednesdays can be much less expensive days to fly than any other day.

Look into consolidated airline tickets

Consolidators buy tickets in bulk and sell them at a discounted rate to help airlines fill seats up. You can find ticket consolidators in your newspaper’s travel section or online at sites like Hotwire.com.

You should be aware of the fact that consolidated airline tickets have more restrictions than others, but could be a really good buy if you’re willing to live with those restrictions. It’s best to find out what those restrictions are so you’ll know if you’d like to go that route or not.

Be aware of hidden costs

Ticket prices are often published without ticketing fees, airport taxes, security surcharges, etc., which can raise your costs by 10 to 20 percent. Know these fees before you buy your tickets to avoid any surprise. Read all fine print before giving up your money. It can mean the difference in getting a really good hotel or a cheap motel.

Check out ticket prices online

Ticket prices can be less than 10 percent or more if you purchase them online. Several online travel websites also offer package deals for vacations that include flights, so be sure to shop around and prices vary from website to website.

If you need cheap airline tickets, these tips work pretty well, as well as the other tips you can find online. The trick is to take the time to research well before you buy the tickets. You can often get good prices if you take your time finding out what’s available.

In recent years, the travel industry has become a force to be reckoned with in the online industry. With Internet access growing more common daily in homes around the world, many people can surf for vacations online, book flights, car rentals, hotel reservations cruises and more for business or fun travel – any time, all the time, 24/7.

And many people are realizing their dreams of working from home through this online travel business revenue stream at the same time. But many more could be joining in, too, but dont know how or need a hand at the keyboard.

While it can be very profitable, you can struggle if you dont know what youre doing. So here are a few tips on how to succeed.

1. Automate your business. The one common thread among all internet businesses is mass quantities of potential customers. If youre going to do well, you must learn to automate nearly everything. Just keeping up with a list of prospects can become a daunting task without the proper tools. For sending out emails, auto-responders are pretty much a must these days. It greatly decreases the amount of work involved.

2. Build relationships. Many people tend to forget that online business is still a business. They think just because they throw up a website that people will start buying from them. The truth is, people hate to be sold to. However, they will buy from those who build relationships with them. Gain their trust by giving them something with no strings attached. Unconditional giving is a great practice to get into.

3. Offer extras. Dont just do what everyone else is doing. Give the prospect something extra. If you over-deliver, theyll have every reason to buy from you. If you over-promise and under-deliver, youll likely end up being disappointed. Try to come up with unique ideas that others havent thought of. Dont be content with giving away some free e-book that is so overused that everyone has read it twice. Continually think of innovative ways to help the customer.

4. Use your unique voice. Dont try to sound like an encyclopedia or a robot. In all communications with the clients, be sure to use your individual voice. People like to deal with other people, not robots. Talk to them like you would talk to your best friend. Dont talk down to them or sound redundant. Use a fresh style. It will be appreciated.

5. Know your stuff. No matter what youre selling, you must know what youre talking about. If a prospective buyer asks you a question and you cant answer it, why would they want to buy from you? They probably wouldnt. Do some research. Learn your craft. It will go a long way with the customer.

Keep these tips in mind while building your Coastal Vacations or other travel-related business. There is no reason why you cant do as well as anyone else in the business. Just remember that online businesses are still businesses.

Seville is one of the jewels of Spain, with architecture, museums, food and shopping that make it a must-see holiday destination.

Where is it?

Seville is in the Spanish region of Andalucia, which also includes the coastal resorts of Costa del Sol and Costa Almeria. Seville itself is set inland, although the coastal areas are within easy reach. It has its own airport, which is a 45 minute drive from the city.

Where can I stay?

You dont get a true feeling for Seville by staying in a large chain hotel. You need to choose a small, friendly but stylish boutique hotel that reflects the nature of the city and its people. Try a boutique hotel like Casa No 7, which only has 6 bedrooms and is decorated with style and taste around a small courtyard, typical of Seville. Alternatively, the Casa Romana boutique hotel is right in the middle of Seville, which means that you can use the hotel as a cool and refined base while you check out everything that Seville has to offer.

What can I see?

Seville is famous for its Cathedral, which is the largest in the world. Built on the site of a twelfth century mosque, it is simple, but awe-inspiring and a sight not to be missed. Also make sure you see the Casa de Pilatos, built by the first Marquis de Tarifa in the early sixteenth century. It is one of the finest palaces in Seville and now also houses a courtyard and park, at the end of which are mansions that have been turned into museums. For a real taste of Seville, spend some time in the Barrio Santa Cruz, one of the most picturesque parts of the city, full of narrow lanes and surprising squares; whitewashed houses and excellent tapas bars. Tapas is thought to have been invented in Seville, and its certainly the way that most locals choose to eat. The range is incredible and the prices good, so take advantage of the more than one thousand places in the city where tapas is available.

How do I get around?

Seville is a busy city with lots of narrow roads, and it is a brave person who attempts to drive or park in the main areas. Parking in particular is very limited and often restricted to residents of businesses; so avoid parking fines and unnecessary stress by only hiring a car if youre planning to drive outside the city. Instead, use the very regular and reliable bus service which costs little and offers multiple journey tickets, or get one of Sevilles white taxis. Tourists often take a horse and carriage to see Sevilles main sites this is a particularly popular option with couples and families. As with most cities, one of your best options is to walk. There are maps available from the tourist offices and you can explore Seville at your leisure.

When camping, it is important to take plenty of food and water to remain nourished. These items should be easy to store, easy to carry when out on the trail and easy to keep fresh. Non perishable and dried items are best to take, but perishable items can be used if you have access to a refrigerator or cooler that will maintain the cold for the duration of your trip.

There are specialty stores that carry food supplies specifically meant for camping. However, these items can be expensive. They usually consist of pre packaged food and meals that are freeze-dried. Often the food is bland and may not be as nutritious as a fresh meal.

With a little planning, however, it is possible to have nutritious, easy to prepare meals right from the grocery store. There are many foods that are light weight, easy to store and non perishable. Cereals, nuts, dried fruit and candy are great snacks and can be mixed for an energy boosting trail mix. All those ingredients are readily available in a grocery store and can be made up before leaving and stored in an airtight container. Adding some packets into your backpack will provide a healthy snack while on the trail.

Always bring plenty of water for hydration and cooking. Dont forget youll also need water for cleaning dishes after cooking. You can also bring drink mixes and coffee or tea to mix with the water for a pick me up in the morning. Any foods that require simply adding water are great. Cup of soup packets where you just add some water and let it steep are great for a quick and easy warm meal or snack. They are great for cold weather to help keep warm.

Canned meats, meats that do not require refrigeration and canned vegetables are a good source of nutrition. Tuna fish and canned chicken can be used in numerous recipes. Making stews out of canned meats and canned vegetables will provide you a hearty meal that is easy to prepare and easy to clean. Salami does not need to be cooked and is great on crackers for a snack. Beef jerky is a traditional camping snack that will provide nutrition and boost energy while on the trail. Just remember though that if you take any canned goods to also bring a can opener.

For sweets, candy and dried fruits are excellent. But who can resist a traditional smore? Marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers are lightweight and can be carried and stored with ease. Sitting down to a fire while roasting marshmallows and melting chocolate onto the graham cracker is a fun way to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Remember that when you are camping you will need to carry items with you on hikes and nature walks. Choose items that are lightweight and do not require a lot of cleaning. Bring a variety of meats, cheeses, breads, snacks and sweets. Camping is a temporary state and you should concentrate on ease of preparation and fun. Do not worry that you may not be getting the most balanced meal or gourmet food. Theres plenty of time for that at home. Enjoy the campfire, keep your energy level up and have fun.

One of the most used departure ports for cruise ships in the Caribbean is San Juan in Puerto Rico. We decided to arrive a day early to San Juan in order to see some sights before our cruise ship departure. San Juan, known as ‘La Ciudad Amurallada’ (the walled city), was founded in 1521 and is the oldest city under the US flag. During the 16th century, the Spanish used it as a point of departure for expeditions to the New World. Fortifications in the Old San Juan section of the city repulsed numerous attacks from the English and the Dutch during those years. Today, Old San Juan is a charming seven square block commercial and residential area with cobblestone streets.

The cruise ship terminal is actually located near the south side of Old San Juan so instead of booking a hotel in the beach resort area of San Juan, we decided to book one right in the old section for close proximity to the terminal as well as the local sights. The $17 US taxi ride from San Juan’s airport to Old San Juan was about half an hour. During the ride, I was impressed by how developed the city was compared to many other cities I’ve visited in the Caribbean. The beach high-rise hotels along the north side of San Juan were visible from the highway. Our stay for the night was at the Hotel Milano which is right on Calle Fortaleza, which is one of the major commercial streets in Old San Juan. The hotel was clean and comfortable but not luxurious which was okay with us as the price was very affordable. Its quality was probably comparable to a Travelodge or Days Inn. A very pleasant surprise was the free continental breakfast at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant. It gave a nice view of the neighborhood from the top.

We spent the day and evening walking the many cobblestone streets and alleys in the area. There are over 400 restored colonial buildings from the 16th and 17th century here. There were also several plaza squares and parks. One of the nicest services offered in Old San Juan is a free shuttle bus which covers two different routes through the district. There was a bus stop about 1/2 block away from our hotel which was very convenient. Riding on the shuttle buses through both routes gave us a good overview of Old San Juan. We were able to stop off at several points of interest including the huge El Morro fort. After our visits to each attraction, we just had to
wait for the next bus to come by to continue our tour. In the evening, we did get lost while walking since many of the streets look very similar. But with our map, we eventually found our way back to the street where the Hotel Milano was. We decided to dine at one of the nearby restaurants for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and were not disappointed. My lady especially adored the two different plantains we ordered.

When it was time to go to the cruise ship terminal, we just took a short five minute ride from our hotel. Our short stay in Old San Juan was definitely worthwhile and hassle free. A stay in Old San Juan is highly recommended for those who will be taking a Caribbean cruise with San Juan as the departure point. The only disappointment I had with San Juan was that I was hoping to do some scuba diving in the area but from the reports I read, the waters off the city are quite murky with limited marine life to see. This is likely the result of San Juan being such a busy port. The decent scuba diving sites are about 2 hours east of San Juan. So perhaps in a return trip to Puerto Rico, I will plan to make a trip to the east part of the island.

Its less than one month away before many kids and students will be out of school for the 2006 summer season, and if you dont know exactly where to take your family this year for vacation, consider taking a cheap cruise holiday!

With gas prices going through the roof, many families may be reconsidering their vacation plans, and when you have been budgeting for your family trip, taking a cruise may be your best value for your buck.

Holidays are something we all look forward to, whether theyre for winter or summer, and when you finally have the time to take the entire family on a holiday, you want to have the best overall experience.

Finding A Cheap Holiday Is Easy If You Change Your Holiday!

Consider getting away from the traditional vehicle trip to the Theme Parks, or traditional annual camping trip! If youre looking to do something different this year, and you live in a cruise port city that offers many exciting cruises on select cruise ships to the Caribbean or Mexico, you may be pleasantly surprised on the cruise prices and the incredible discounts they offer for the summer season.

You and your family can enjoy an inclusive cruising experience and voyage to many exotic islands, Mexican historical cities and more! Even though this is your vacation, it can also be an educational experience for the children and you as well.

For The Price of A Road Trip You Can Easily Cruise In Exotic Vacation Style!

Many cruise lines like Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean offer deep summer discounts to the Caribbean and Mexican destinations, and with summer being their low season, families can take advantage of these savings. With that in mind, families and individuals that live near a cruise port, virtually everything is covered in your cruise package, such as your accommodations, most if not all meals and beverages, and fantastic daily and nightly entertainment.

For families that dont live in a city with access to a cruise port, summer deals from cruise companies usually provide extremely low airfare cruise packages, that can easily cost less than your Theme Park family vacation!

If you dont believe me, consider the fact that once you get to the Theme Parks of your choice, you have to think about your vehicle transportation to and from your hotel if you are far from the park property, plus all your meals, beverages, and entertainment costs for the entire family. These expenses can add up very quickly, and in most cases are very difficult to budget for on vacation, because the saying goes, when youre on vacation, you normally spend more than you budget for in the beginning.

With summer cruising, you arrive on the ship, your bags are taken directly to your room by the ships courteous staff, and all you have to do is get ready to hit the cruise ships spectacular buffet prior to leaving your port to the first exciting destination on your cruising itinerary.

If You Think The Kids Will Be Bored While Cruising, Think Again!

Even though cruise destinations are the highlight of any cruising vacation, many families and individuals love to take cruises because of all the fun activities they offer, and while on board your ship, you and your children will have no problem finding things to do.

Cruise ships provide some of the best entertainment and kids services in the vacation market, and they cater to everyone including adults and your children alike! While youre dreaming about the first exotic beach you will be arriving on shortly, the cruise ship has exciting and fun things to do that range from a variety of kids activities, outdoor sports competitions, to a variety of theme parties for all ages.

As your children are completely occupied, you can relax by the pool, or take in the many daily features such as Bingo, Casino, and even a therapeutic massage in their spa. When you start to miss the kids, all of you can meet to take in a fabulous lunch buffet and get re-fuelled for the rest of the days events that you can choose to take part in or not.

Remember this, when you plan your summer vacation you can truly have a family experience to remember when selecting a cruise vacation, and with the savings you will experience, you and your family wont be talking this year about the hot dog that fell off the grill, or the fish that got away again. This summer you will be discussing how exciting it was to see the Mexican Mayan Ruins and all the other fabulous places, how delicious the gourmet cheesecake was for desert, and your family will be laughing all day about dad winning the belly flop contest at the ships poolside this year!

Spain is part of the European Union and all EU and American nationals can visit the country for a period of no longer than 90 days solely with a passport. EU national can apply for a residency permit if they wish to extend their stay. Non EU nationals can apply for a further 90 day extension. These regulations do not appear to be enforced as far as the yachtsman living aboard is concerned. It is advisable to clear customs if entering Spain for the first time. The vessel’s registration papers and the passports of crew members will be required. A certificate of competence, evidence of the boat’s VAT status, a crew list with passport details, the radio license and a certificate of insurance may also be required. A VAT (Value Added Tax) paid or exempt yacht can apply for a “permiso aduanero” . This allows for an indefinite stay in the country and can be helpful when importing yacht spares from other EU countries. Boats registered outside the EU on which VAT has not been paid may be imported into the EU for a period not exceeding six months in any twelve, after that VAT becomes due. This period can often be extended by prior arrangement with the local custom authorities. There is a legal requirement for foreign vessels to fly their own national maritime flag together with the courtesy flag of Spain.

It is worth considering the following equipment when cruising this area. An SSB radio is useful for obtaining weather forecasts. It is very hot in the summer and ventilation is important. It may be worth fitting extra hatches and a wind scoop over the fore hatch will help a lot. An awning or biminy, covering the cockpit, to provide shelter from the sun is a must. A cockpit table is useful as eating outside during the summer months is one of the pleasures of cruising. Mosquitoes can be a problem and many boats screen all openings while others rely on mosquito coils, insecticides and repellents. Sunburn is the other hazard cruisers should be aware of, the sun can be deceptively strong while the boat is underway, plenty of cream and a hat will go along way to avoid the misery of sunstroke.

There is a constant east going current of between 1 and 2 knots flowing through the straight of Gibraltar and between the Costa del Sol and the north African coast. There is some tide to be considered at the western end of the region, Gibraltar sees 1 metre at most. This diminishes the further east traveled. The weather is affected by several systems and is consequently difficult to predict. There is an old saying that in the summer months nine days of light winds will be followed by a full blown gale that is inaccurate. A wind from the northwest is known as the “tramotana”. It can be dangerous because it can arrive and reach gale force in as little as 15 minutes. It often lasts for 3 days and can blow in excess of a week. The wind from the east, the “levante” can also blow for several days at gale force. Annual rainfall at Gibraltar is 760mm. The Costa del Sol will experience about 4 days a month of fog. Summer temperatures can exceed 35 degrees C and the winter months see around 15 degrees.

The remainder of this article looks principally at the harbours of the Costa del Sol. There are also numerous anchorages bbut only a few of the notable ones are mentioned here.

Marina Bay is largest of Gibraltar’s three marinas with 350 berths. Most berthing is stern/bow to. Larger yachts can lie alongside. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Within the complex you will find a chandlers, launderette and a good selection of restaurants and bars. There is an indoor market less than 5 minutes walk from the marina. Queensway Marina is much quieter than Gibraltar’s other two marinas. Security is excellent with all the pontoons being gated. Within the complex you will find several restaurants and bars.
Gibraltar itself was ceded from the Spanish to the British in the early 18th century and for most of it’s history since that time Spain has been trying to get it back. There is evidence of this wherever you go on the rock. The rock itself is honeycombed with tunnels constructed at one time or another for the purposes of adding to the defences of Gibraltar. Many of the older tunnels are open to the public and feature exhibitions of how life was for the soldiers of the day. Many of the tunnels are most definitely not open to the public and there is considerable speculation as to what might be seen in these. You can see Rosia Bay where Admiral Lord Nelson’s body was bought ashore from HMS Victory following his famous victory over a combined French and Spanish fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar. Nelson’s body was returned to Britain for a hero’s funeral but many of the seamen who died alongside him in the battle are buried on the rock at the Trafalgar cemetery. Take a cable car ride to the top of the rock, stunning views of Spain and across the straights to Morocco. Up here you will also find the famous colony of Barbary apes. Rumor has it that only when the apes are no more will the British leave the Rock. A rumor taken seriously by Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of Britain during the Second World War, who on learning of their dwindling population ordered more to be bought to the Rock from Africa.

Puerto de Sotogrande is an attractive marina complex surrounded by apartments, shops, bars and restaurants. The overall design has been inspired by Portofino. There are
sandy beaches to either side of the marina and golf, riding, tennis and squash courts nearby. One of the most expensive marinas on this part of the coast.

One of my favorites is Puerto de la Duquessa. Not too big and not to noisy. The marina is surrounded by apartments, shops, restaurants and bars. The marina offers free medical care to it’s users. There are sandy beaches either side of the marina. The village of Sabinillas is 5 minutes walk to the north. Another bus will take you to the village of Casares which clings to the side of a mountain. Marbella, popular with the rich and famous is another bus journey away. Don’t expect to see the famous on the bus though, they are the ones in the Ferraris. Hire a car and drive up to the picturesque town of Ronda.

Puerto de Estapona is a medium sized marina with the usual development of restaurants and bars.

Puerto de Jose Banus, the marina of the rich and famous and the prices reflect this. Whitewashed, Andalucian style building surround the marina, hosting boutiques, bars, restaurants and night clubs. There are several Yacht Charter and Yacht Brokerage operations within the marina complex. Marbella is 15 minutes away by car or bus. Good beach to the west of the marina which belongs to the hotel and allows berth holders access. This can be arranged at the control tower. Many golf courses in the area.

The small marina at Puerto de Marbella is surrounded by tourist developments. The marina can be noisy at night during the summer months. Wind from the east, south and southwest can produce a heavy swell within the harbour. Be prepared to double up on lines. Beaches on either side of the marina but these get very crowded during the summer months. The town itself is well worth exploring. Don’t miss the famous Orange Square which can be found at the heart of the city centre.

Puerto de Cabopino is a pleasant, small harbour surrounded by Andalucian style houses which makes a nice change from the normal high rise developments. Good shelter within the harbour. Limited space for transient yachts and it is recommended that you call ahead to confirm there is a berth available. Marina charges are on the high side. Cabopino beach, with it’s fine sand is reckoned to be one of the best on the Costa del Sol

Good shelter can be found at Puerto de Fuengirola. The nearby town is both noisy and very busy during the summer months. All provisions can be obtained in the town. There are good beaches on either side of the marina but these get very crowded during the summer months.

Puerto de Benalmadena is a huge marina with over 150,000 square metres of water. There is good shelter with the only swell being experienced in a W gale. Whilst the surrounding area is the usual overpowering high rise blacks the marina itself is quite attractive. It was named best marina in the world in both 1995 and 1998. There are over 200 commercial premises including boutiques, night clubs and the usual numerous restaurants and bars. There is also a sea life centre. There are good beaches on either side of the marina. Malaga airport is just 8 km away.

Puerto de Malaga is the major commercial and fishing port of the Costa del Sol. The only facilities for yachts are at the Real Club Mediterraneo de Malaga and there is little room for visitors. Malaga, known as the “City of Flowers” is both interesting and charming. It can be reached on foot from the port.

The small harbour of Puerto del Candado is found 3.5 miles E of Malaga. Suitable for vessels drawing 2m or less. With strong winds from the W – SW considerable swell builds up and the harbour becomes uncomfortable. Harbour charges are low

Puerto de Puerto Caleta de Velez is a quiet fishing harbour 22 miles to east of Malaga. There are beaches on either side of the marina.

The anchorages of Fondeadero de Neja and Cala de Miel are both worth a visit. Cala de Miel has a fresh water spring.

Marina del Este is a purpose built marina set amongst a huge housing development in a beautiful area. Wind from NE – E produces a limited amount of swell within the marina. Harbour charges are high in the summer months. There is a small beach close to the harbour and a pool at the yacht club. There are prehistoric caves to be seen at Nerja. The city of Granada and the famous Alhambra can be seen in a days trip. As can the Alpahurras valley, with it’s charming villages, towered over by the magnificent Sierra Nevada.

Once a small fishing port, Puerto de Motril has developed into a commercial port serving the inland city of Granada. Beaches on either side of the harbour.

The harbour of Puerto de Adra was founded by the Phoenicians and has been in use ever since. Today it is both a commercial and fishing port. The continual movement of the fishing boats makes for much disturbance. Facilities are limited. Harbour charges are high. Beaches on either side of the harbour. Adra town is small and has little in the way of development for tourism.

Puerto de Almerimar, a very large marina with the capacity for over 1,000 boats. Excellent shelter from everything but strong SW winds when some swell can build up towards the entrance of the harbour. Prices are low. Astonishingly so compared to some other marinas on the Costa del Sol. Sandy beaches on either side of the marina. This part of the coast is covered with plastic greenhouses, it has to be seen to be appreciated both for the vast number of acres under cover and it’s ugliness.

Puerto de Roquetas del Mar is a small fishing harbour. Strong winds from the SE – NE make the harbour uncomfortable.

Good shelter can be found at Puerto de del Aguadulce except with wind from the ESE which can cause some swell making conditions uncomfortable. The marina can cater for some 150 boats. The complex includes a swimming pool and squash court. Sandy beaches to the S with waters clean enough to merit a blue CE flag. Two 18 hole golf courses.

The Puerto de Almeria is a commercial & fishing port. Yachts use the Club de Mar del Almeria. There are several large rusty industrial structures close by a dominating the view and giving the place a rather grim feel. Overall the shelter is good but strong winds from the E produce swell that makes it uncomfortable within the marina. The Alcazaba inAlmeria, a Moorish castle, is well worth a visit.
