The future of Public Health in the United States

I am currently involved with what may be the largest Public Health effort undertaken in Monroe County and Rochester, New York, in decades. I am volunteering for the H1N1 vaccine clinics being held by the county this week. This, and my normal coverage of health issues, has brought to a head some thoughts on Public Health agencies and practices I have been mulling for some time.

Iraqi Navy adds ship

The Iraqi navy welcomed the Patrol Ship Nasir to its new homeport here in a ceremony Nov. 12. The Nasir is the second of four ships contracted from the Fincantieri Shipyard in La Spezia, Italy. The Iraqi manned ship departed Italy Oct. 15, completing the more than 5,000 mile journey in about a month.

The alleged gunman remains under guard at Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Authorities say the gunman, armed with two handguns, fired at least 100 rounds indiscriminately into the crowd of Soldiers gathered for pre-deployment medical screenings. The violence spilled outside as Soldiers fled, some trying to break windows to escape the carnage. Witnesses say the shooter continued his rampage at an adjacent building, shooting several others before police confronted him.
