Dr. Mark Roberts just put into words what I've been chewing for some time. Love to hear your thoughts.
"Worship leaders that fosters renewal reflects what leaders do in private as much or even more than what they do when they're up front. Such leadership is a matter of who leaders are, not just what they do. It flows from their genuine relationship with God and from their willingness to share this relationship with others, including, and especially, their thirst for God."
Dr. Mark Roberts

Tithing

"Does our generosity imitate God's total self-donation of himself to us?"
-Marva J Dawn

Success

"....God does not call us to success, but to faithfulness. Every year around this time I start my new year by reflecting on the year passed. For a person in ministry, it's incredibly important to hit the pause button during this time of the year. I'm taking 12 days off. That's a first for me. I've taken a few days off here and there, but not 12 days in a row. I'm sort of worried, but I have a great team who has my back and will take care of running things. Here are a few things that I'll be doing on my time off and during the year to come.

1. Journaling (over my vacation and the next year)
2. Letting the word of God penetrate my heart daily.
3. Meeting with a spiritual director. (more on this to come)
4. Praying (seeking his will, strength and direction)
5. Time Audits (Looking at how I used/spent my time)
6. Evaluating my team and letting them evaluate me.
7. Reading (The Sense of the Call: A Sabbath way of life for those who serve God, the church, and the world)

To all of my peeps in ministry land, how will you spend your time off? I'd love to hear what you do.

Engineering Secrets

"Engineering is the art of modelling materials we do not wholly understand, into shapes we cannot precisely analyse, so as to withstand forces we cannot properly assess, in such a way that the public has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance."
DR AR DYKES British Institution of Structural Engineers, 1976

Apology...

I must apologize for my lack of consistent blogging. For others, you might have picked up on what was also being communicated. Here's what I think they were trying to say, "We are consumers, who are demanding, lazy, overweight and don't want to work for anything." It was sort of scary because it was somewhat true.

Children's Ministry Ideas

 LightcompD
Originally uploaded by mlworship
I've been working on rebranding our childrens ministry at BEACHPOINT. If you've never been, I highly recommend it. The arts conference has become a yearly ritual for me. This conference comes at a key time of the year for me. I find myself, after Easter, spent and in need of being surrounded in an environment of creativity and other artists. Today, Nancy opened the conference by speaking about creating a new song. We all have to "fight" to be creative every week. To be fresh, not stale. To be alive, not dead. To plan every week as if there were no rules binding our creativity and to create "New Songs" every week. When Nancy talked about "new songs" she wasn't just talking about music, she was talking about newness in every creative element. Nancy also talked about new songs being birthed in intimacy and surrender. Intimacy and surrender is the starting place for creative greatness. It's where God can speak and inspire our spirit. If any from my church is reading this, I owe you an apology. The last few months I have been running on fumes. I have planned worship out of routine. For a creative person routine is one step next to creative death. Tomorrow is full of break-out sessions which equate to practical stuff. Yeah!

Exodus

 TheJourney
Originally uploaded by mlworship
In the fall my church will be going through a series on exodus.
