After months of making people wait, Motorola has finally launched the Moto G in India. The much anticipated Android smartphone has been priced at . The device will be exclusively available on Flipkart, . To recap on the specifications, the Moto G sports a 4.5-inch 720p display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM. Akshay Tritiya - Weak gold may boost sales by up to 40%

MUMBAI: The continued weakness in gold prices is likely to boost jewellery sales by up to 40 per cent this Akshay Tritiya, according to retailers.

"Due to the sudden dip in prices, we expect a very positive response from consumers as now is the time they indulge in gold. The festive season along with the low rates make it a perfect spending opportunity. The increase expected can be anywhere around 30-40 per cent compared to last year,"Manubhai Jewellers Director Samir Sagartold PTI here.

Echoing him, Shree GaneshJewellery House Head-Retail, GAJA, Rahul Singh said, "We expect around 40 per cent rise in Akshay Tritiya sales compared to last year."

The day is considered auspicious to buy gold. But non-Hindu buyers also take advantage of the offers and discounts offered by jewellers, he added.

All India Gems and Jewellery Federation (GJF) Chairman Haresh Soni said overall sales in jewellery and bullion is expected to rise by about 25 per cent considering current reduction in gold prices this Akshay Tritiya.

From the regional perspective, southern India is expected to consume high percentage of sales, he added.

Gitanjali Group Chairman and Managing Director Mehul Choksi said drop in gold prices normally boosts demand for jewellery and coins.

When the gold peaked late last year at above Rs 32,000 per 10 grams, demand slowed in terms of value, while during the recent drop to almost Rs 27,000 there has been a surge of consumers in jewellery stores across India.

"If gold prices remain relatively weaker than last year's peak, which is what the market now expects, then demand will be good, if they fall further, demand on Akshay Tritiya will soar by 30 per cent," he added.

Kotak Mahindra Bank BSE 0.65 % Executive Vice President Puneet Kapoor said this season Kotak Mahindra Bank is expecting to sell around 175 kg of gold coins and bars, which will be 30 per cent higher compared 135 kg during last Akshay Tritiya.

After witnessing steep fall in prices -- up to almost 20 per cent -- the price of gold became stagnant at the new level, and has again started inching upwards in anticipation of higher demand.

In the last 10 days, gold has already gained almost 8 per cent and if the trend continues, it will bring investor community back to the fore, he pointed out.

BANGALORE: A 24-year-old IAS aspirant allegedly committed suicide, with the police stating that he was upset over a 'goof-up' in theUnion Public Service Commission (UPSC) results published here.

Manjunath VY, a resident of Shrirampuram in the city, committed suicide by hanging himself in an under construction building on May 10 after he had left for his friend's house in Kodagu area, they said.

According to the police, Manjunath was upset over finding a different name under his roll number in the list of selected candidates in this year's civil services examination.

The victim had secured 264th rank in the examination, but in the final results after the interview, a different name was mentioned under his roll number on the list, they said.

A shocked Manjunath then contacted UPSC officials and also wrote to them seeking clarification over the 'mix-up' in the result. Since there was allegedly no response, he took the extreme step, police added. Courtesy:TOI..

'Neram' is the story of a struggling young man named Mathew (Nivin Pauly),is an unemployed Software Engineer and the 'web' of troubles that surrounds him. Jeena(Nazriya Nazim) is the love interset of Mathew.Mathew borrowed some money as loan and now that he cannot give it to back'his childhood friend Jeena helps him out.Her father Johnykutty(Lalu Alex) does not like Mathew and he always try to make problems with Mathew whenever he get chance.The problems surrounding him are not new, but he has limited time to solve or find an answer to all this.But once, Mathew's good time arrives,so does his problems.The gripping events that follow the rest of the story. The story unfurls during the events that happening upto 5 'o' clock of a day. Each event leads to another and situation gets more and more murkier. Does it all get solved for Mathew and change his take on his 'times'? Movie's second half holds the answer to these questions.

First half sets up the mood quite decently. The romantic song and the angle is fair, with light jokes thrown in here and there. More and more characters keep on adding and the tamil style is quite evident. By the end of first half, the feeling is just good.But the Second half is much better and even though you may get tired of some comedies,slow motion runs and fights, the way it finishes tying all the ends up is awesome.Among the cast, Nivin does his role decently. Nothing great but his action avathar After Da Thadiya is good to watch. Nazriya looks really good, eye candy and pretty believable average beautiful girl. Shammi Thilakan is good as the police officer with a crazy name. Manoj K Jayan is decent. The new actor who has done Manoj K Jayan's brother's role is a small show stealer. Good casting there.

Direction is promising and we known his talent grom his debut Album Yuvvh. Alphonse has been able to see through the darkness and create something decently entertaining and watchable. Writing is good at times with twists that keep you alive in the movie. Viewers always be in laugh riot mode. Music and background score are good. 'Vaathil' and 'Pistah' add to the movie when needed. Editing is good with some new attempts in cuts.

To sum it up, go in with low expectations and 'Neram' is quite a good watchable movie, especially for some light fun and the way it ties all ends up by the end.

It is good to hear that election dates for Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat have been announced by the Election Commission of India. I said 'it is good to hear about the election dates' because now it is the first chance for us-The public, to react against the Central govt(UPA govt) for their "scamful" governing at the centre.

The prices of all essential commodities are always going up. Price of Rice,gas,kerosene,oil,petrol,diesel everything have gone up. In addition to all that the bills like Reservation for Promotion for SC/ST,Limitation of gas to 6 cylinders per year,Hiking the a/c train ticket rates (in the railway budget it was an eyewash for everyone by UPA by saying no hikes in any tickets) have all gone against the common people's life.

As we public knows all these things, then also we elects the same corrupted politicians again and again. But this time we need to change. We need to show them who the real power are. Its us the public! The corrupted ones know the people very well, they know that we people forgets everything too quickly. An example of this thing at present is the "nomination of Suresh Kalmadi to the Parliamentary Committee by the congress". We all know the Commonwealth Games scam in which he was involved, then also look after a year and half he is back into a governing position.

We need to think all these things and act accordingly in the upcoming elections. Congress nominates suspended Suresh Kalmadi to parliamentary committee

Politicians A Raja and Suresh Kalmadi may have recently spent about a year in jail each, but both men, who are Lok Sabha MPs, have been nominated to important parliamentary committees. Mr Kalmadi was suspended by the Congress last year after he was arrested for corruption. His party said that it did not nominate him to the Committee on External Affairs; sources say Mr Kalmadi asked to be part of the group, and that the Congress did not object. The decision was made by the Lok Sabha secretariat, which handles the administration of the Lower House. Its officials point out that all serving parliamentarians have the right to serve on such panels.

Meanwhile, Mr Raja is now the DMK's representative on the parliamentary group that studies Energy.

Parliamentary standing committees examine bills and give suggestions for proposed legislation to the relevant ministries.
Mr Raja is being tried for criminal conspiracy, cheating and breach of trust by a public servant - a charge that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. As Telecom Minister, he allegedly sold under-priced licences for mobile networks to ineligible companies. Through his trial, his party has stood by him. DMK chief M Karunanidhi, who mentored Mr Raja, has said the party believes in his innocence.
The Congress has been less explicit in its backing of Mr Kalmadi so far. He was suspended by the party after he was arrested in April 2011 and put in Tihar Jail, where Mr Raja was also stationed.

As the man in charge of the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi in 2010, Mr Kalmadi allegedly presided over a network of venal officials, who signed inflated contracts with firms. Mr Kalmadi was jailed for a deal with a Swiss company that was hired for time-keeping and scoring equipment. He was granted bail in January this year.

"Everyone was underwater. The boat overturned, everything came crashing down, the chair slid down."
Another woman recounted her terrifying ordeal trying to free herself from her seat as the boat sank.
"My leg was stuck and I couldn't get it out. I thought I wouldn't be able to get it out and I was going to die," she said.

"The water was suffocating me. My friend tugged with all her might and got my leg out. I was wearing a life jacket so I floated up to the surface. I had swallowed a lot of water. I really thought I was going to die. Thinking about all those at the bottom who were stuck, they're not here anymore."
A male passenger described the chaos as the boat rolled violently.
"I opened the window and pushed a child out. I put a life jacket on him and pushed him out first," he told. "At the time it was very chaotic. The boat was completely standing straight up in the water. It was chaotic. All the tables and chairs were everywhere. It was like a slide, everything was sliding down."
But the shocked survivor admitted he didn't know where his wife was.
Rescue services, quickly on the scene with boats and helicopters, managed to pluck more than 100 people from the water, though 28 were declared dead on the scene, while another 9 died in hospital.
The boat was completely standing straight up in the water. It was chaotic.
The other vessel involved -- a regular passenger ferry -- managed to limp to the safety of the pier just a few hundred meters away on Lamma, located southwest of Hong Kong Island.
Witnesses on board the ferry described the moment the two vessels collided.
"We suddenly heard a loud noise. Then the boat swung to one side and we lost our balance," one man, named as Mr. Yip, told i-Cable. "People fell, they fell off their seats, they hit themselves. After a while when everything calmed down, we saw we were almost at the pier, so we asked the captain if we could dock first.
"When we did so, our boat was flooded -- the front of the ship had water in it, so people got nervous again."
Chris Head, a teacher from Lamma, said the ferry went from what felt like full speed to "an abrupt halt." He told he thought they'd hit "a rock or a lighthouse."
Meanwhile, rescuers continued their search for survivors off Lamma on Tuesday morning in full view of commuters, as ferries resumed their services to the main islands to the north.

"This is your party, not mine," said activist Arvind Kejriwal this evening as he launched his as-yet-unnamed political party in Delhi. The party will be christened on November 26, but its founder shared some of its rules today: It will not allow elected representatives to use government accommodation, security, or the lal batti or red beacons that guarantee right of way for vehicles used by MPs. The tenets are lacking in pragmatism: Mr Kejriwal promised, for example, that prices of essential commodities should not be changed without the people's consent. He also said that his team will expose two very powerful people of the country on October 6 at 3 pm.

Mr Kejriwal's decision to enter politics led to a parting of ways with his mentor, Anna Hazare.

Many among the supporters - 500 at first, and 1200 in a few hours - who gathered with Mr Kejriwal this morning asked if Anna would be joining them for the launch of the new outfit. He won't. The 75-year-old has made it clear that in his opinion, entering politics will dilute the movement against graft that was led by Mr Kejriwal and him with considerable success.
There were traces of Anna's influence everywhere. Mr Kejriwal wore the cap or "Anna topi" that became iconic during the hunger strikes that Anna led over the last two years, demanding the creation of the Lokpal or national ombudsman empowered to investigate venal bureaucrats and politicians. The caps then used to read "Main hoon Anna" (I am Anna). The one used by Mr Kejriwal today said "Main aam admi hoon" (I am the common man).
After days of derisive remarks, Anna softened after a meeting in Delhi yesterday with Mr Kejriwal, who said he had sought the blessings of the Gandhian. "If good people enter politics, they can make a difference," said Anna, a marked change from his recent declaration that "politics is full of filth." He also said that if Mr Kejriwal stands for election, he will support him, but caveated that not all candidates put up by Mr Kejriwal will be backed by him. His protege; is convinced that will change. "I am sure that if we find good candidates, Anna will support us," he said.

Mr Kejriwal's decision to launch what he describes as "a political alternative" was announced in August, when the India Against Corruption movement that Anna and he had headlined appeared to be dissipating in public. Mr Kejriwal was at the time on a six-day fast in Delhi. The crowds at his base camp were thin. The government ignored him, refusing to urge him to eat, or to talk about when the Lokpal bill - named for the new anti-graft body it births - would be cleared as law. It has passed in the Lok Sabha, but has been stalled in the Rajya Sabha.

As Mr Kejriwal said he would form a political party, Anna said he would lend his support, but would not join the party or contest elections. He later said that the pressure to raise funds, to find honest candidates who would remain uncorrupted by power if they were elected would be too great for the activists to bear without compromise.

Modi’s apology offer puts Congress in a fix

By offering to tender a public apology if his allegation that Rs 1880 crore has been spent from the public exchequer on Sonia Gandhi’s foreign trips is proven wrong, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has put the Congress party is in a fix.

Modi said a response given by the government to an RTI application of a youth of Hisar in Harayana, published in a newspaper on July 12 this year, was the basis for his claim.

However, Ramesh Verma, the activist told a TV channel that the details that the Gujarat CM attributed to him were not true.

According to Verma, in June, the CIC, based on his appeal, had asked PMO to reveal expenses of Gandhi's official tours. But those documents have not been shared with him till now, he added.

The Congress was quick to target Modi and dismissed his allegations as falsehood and irresponsible. “Time and again, he has attacked Congress leaders based on untruths and falsehood. You can't expect a man with that mindset to apologise," Union minister Kapil Sibal was quoted as saying by a news channel.

Hours later, Modi offered to tender a public apology if his allegation was found to be false. Modi alleged that Sonia Gandhi was getting all those facilities like a special flight, which are available only to the President and Prime Minister, from public funds though she was just an MP.

"I had said this thing based on the report of a newspaper. If my information is wrong, today I say that I will publicly accept this mistake", Modi said addressing a rally in Junagadh.

And so far, he said, the report has not been denied either by the government or Gandhi.

With Modi daring the Congress to prove him wrong, the Congress is in a tight spot and is under pressure to reveal details about the cost incurred in foreign travels by the party president.

Earlier, Modi had said, "To those Congress friends, who are accusing our government of uncontrolled expenditure, I want to ask: is it not true that on the foreign travels of the President of the Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi, in the past three years, Rs 1,880 crore has been spent from the public exchequer."

"This clearly means that more than the total yearly budget of Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Rajkot Municipal Corporation combined has been spent only on the foreign trips of Sonia Gandhi and on her luxury hotel stays," he added.

Sonia Gandhi will be launching Congress campaign for the state elections tomorrow by addressing a huge rally of farmers in Rajkot. This will be the first visit of Gandhi in the poll-bound state.

"I want to ask the Delhi Sultanate what is the compulsion that they have to allow this uncontrolled spending of poor people of the country," Modi said.

New Delhi: Days after his split with Anna Hazare, activist Arvind Kejriwal will formally join politics on Tuesday with the announcement of launch of a political party.

The move will coincide with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Mr Kejriwal will also announce members of his new party, an aide said Monday.

"The formal launch of the party will be tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. The announcement will be made at a function at the Constitution Club in New Delhi," Aswathi Muralidharan, India Against Corruption media coordinator, told IANS.

Mr Kejriwal, a prominent IAC leader, will state the vision of the party and its constitution at the launch, she said.

Mr Kejriwal met Anna Hazare in the capital on Monday for the first time since they split and said that although their paths now diverged, their destination was the same.

"Anna is in Delhi, so I naturally had to meet him. Our ways are different, but our destination is the same. I have told Anna that I will support him in all his movements," Mr Kejriwal told reporters after the meeting.

He blamed the media for trying to project a rift between him and Hazare.

"There is no fight. Our relationship and communication will continue, we will keep meeting," he said.

Mr Kejriwal said Mr Hazare would not join his political party.

"He has already said that he will not be part of it as he thinks politics is not the right direction," Mr Kejriwal said.

An internal Lokpal will also be appointed by the party to probe cases of impropriety, The name of the internal Lokpal, a retired judge, will be announced Tuesday.

Mr Hazare arrived in Delhi on Sunday to meet activists to decide the future course of action in his campaign against corruption.

Mr Hazare is opposed to the movement turning political and parted ways with the pro-party group led by Kejriwal Sep 19. He has also banned use of his name or photograph by any political outfit.

3. Do not enter your Facebook credentails on any website whose URL doesn't begin with www.facebook.com on the browser's address bar, even if it looks like Facebook.

Paresh Rawal’s Kanji Lalji Mehta is the man every society needs at this juncture of time. Director Umesh Shukla’s adaptation of the 2001 Australian comedy ‘The Man Who Sued God’ and the Gujarati play ‘Kanji Virudh Kanji’ by Bhavesh Mandalia is done beautifully. The film raises a lot of pertinent questions that the world in general, and our country in particular is seeking answers to at this point in time, and ‘OMG Oh My God!’ manages to put them across in a carefully crafted manner.

Kanji Lalji Mehta (Paresh Rawal) is a man for whom money and his business are the absolute gods. A hardcore atheist, Kanji Bhai doesn’t leave any stone unturned in making money whichever way he is able to. The shrewd businessman owns a shop which – ironically – sells idols of gods and goddesses and other such festival paraphernalia. On a funereal trip to Haridwar, organised by Kanji’s neighbour to appease the departed soul of his mother, Kanji makes sure he turns the trip into a profitable venture- as much as his mercenary abilities would allow. Once back in Mumbai, when a Janmashtami celebration turns awry, thanks to Kanji, the wrath of God is manifested through an earthquake – which leaves Kanji with neither bread nor butter. In a fit of rage, the man sues God.

Enter the modern, Vardenchi Chopper-riding, flute-playing, fancy-glasses-wearing, suited-booted Krishna Vasudev Yadav. Aka Lord Krishna. Akshay Kumar’s jeans-clad avatar of Vishnu is highly commendable, and is a breath of fresh air after his pink-pants-clad Rowdy Rathore. Akshay Kumar, yet again, proves his mettle as an actor who can do wonders – given the story and his character don’t make him dance to loud unbearable numbers or romance women just for the heck of it – or encounter ridiculous aliens and make people laugh half-heartedly.

‘OMG Oh My God!’ raises many such questions which might be termed blasphemous by various godmen of the day. Director Umesh Shukla carefully executes this tightrope walk using comedy as his vehicle, beneath which lies the bottomless abyss of sacrilege and irreverence – one misbalanced step, and down goes the endeavour. Thankfully, none of that happens.

Paresh Rawal manages to balance the act perfectly, and like a magician, juggles the premises of logic and religions – according to his convenience, and how! The film, despite being rooted in surrealism and mythology, makes genuine efforts to establish that one universal truth that has been iterated and reiterated for centuries – religion is a man-made creation, and nothing good has ever come out of it. Using Kanji Lalji Mehta as his mouthpiece, Umesh Shukla – in one clean, fell swoop – puts his finger on the root cause of all problems. Shukla makes Mithun Chakraborty’s voice speak it out – “People are not god-loving, they are god-fearing.”

Govind Namdeo, Mithun Chakraborty and Poonam Jhawer as the various god-people essay their roles admirably. Mithun’s acting skills have been proved time and again, and the film industry is witness to the fact. In this film too, the veteran is impeccable as the scheming, plotting godman. Govind Namdeo plays his role effortlessly, and leaves people at times laughing, at times seething with anger, with his antics. Om Puri as the lawyer Hanif Qureshi is flawless, as always. His role might have been reduced to meting out lessons in law to Kanji, but the thespian performs it with remarkable calibre.

Prabhu Deva and Sonakshi Sinha’s special number ‘Go Govinda’, which has been making splashes in generous doses in the electronic media, is likeable and will henceforth be the Janmashtami-anthem of the country, I daresay. Kailash Kher’s rustic-meets-soulful voice in ‘Dhoondta hai’ is an extremely melodious track. Himesh Reshammiya’s music, for a change, doesn’t sound monotonous.

To wrap up, ‘OMG Oh My God!’ is a film that is undoubtedly one that rests solely on the shoulders of Paresh Rawal, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the man takes away the award for the ‘Best Male Debut’ this year. Akshay Kumar, as the 21st-century Krishna, offers a much-welcome break to his audience. The ‘Divine Comedy’ doesn’t bore. Watch the film for a lot of things – Paresh Rawal being the top of the list!

Gervinho's powerful finish put Arsenal level before the interval but Roberto Di Matteo's side claimed the points early in the second half when Mata's long-range free-kick took the slightest touch off Koscielny and beat Vito Mannone before he could react.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger regarded this match of a measure of his side's title potential - and they had the opportunity to rescue a point only to find Chelsea keeper Petr Cech in defiant mood.

He saved brilliantly from Lukas Podolski's second-half header and produced a superb reflex save from Olivier Giroud's deflected shot, the France striker also missing a great stoppage-time opportunity when he hit the side-netting after evading Cech's challenge.

The Blues will see this as a landmark win as Di Matteo continues to shift the emphasis in personnel and tactical approach after May's Champions League triumph.

He demonstrated attacking intent by field Oscar, Mata and Eden Hazard from the start - a selection that restricted Frank Lampard to a place on the bench.

Inevitably, Terry's every touch was jeered by Arsenal fans as was that of former Gunners defender Ashley Cole - six years after his move to Chelsea.

It was the visitors, however, who settled better and took the lead after 20 minutes through a goal that was a combination of dreadful Arsenal defending and the opportunism of Torres, who easily escaped the flimsy attentions of Koscielny at the far post to hook his finish past Mannone.

Sikh family killed in Belgium

Four members of a Sikh family, including three children, have been found murdered in their home in Belgium’s capital city of Brussels.

All the four victims, who hailed from Punjab, had their throats cut, a report from Brussels said.
The gruesome discovery was made when the father Jasbir Singh returned home in the Brussels municipality of Etterbeek from the restaurant where he worked on Friday night, Belgian media reported.

Singh, 39, found the children aged three, five and seven, and his wife dead.
“When I turned on the lights, I saw blood everywhere,” Singh was quoted by RTL-TVI television as saying. “I must know what happened to my children.” Singh, who was reportedly questioned by the police, said that he knew of no enemies.

According to a report in Belgian portal Deredactie.be, the Brussels judicial authorities have confirmed that they are probing a quadruple murder, but have refused to comment further on the case.

The father of the children came to live in Belgium 15 years ago and his wife joined him around five years ago.
