It is common for students to have jobs while attending college. Many students understand that with the increase in college tuition and living expenses, student jobs may be the only way to afford college. Holding down a job while enrolled in college can be very stressful for a student. College departments that offer student jobs tend to have a better understanding of the academic demands that are placed on the students that they hire. Since many of the college departments only hire for part time help, it is not hard for them to work around students schedules. Other employers, that are not part of the college environment, may not be as student friendly or as willing to work around class schedules.

Finding student jobs on campus can be beneficial. Students, who are able to help run the campus, are more likely to adjust to college life. Student jobs on campus are a great way for students to meet other students and get to know their peers and professors. Campus jobs are usually offered in many areas like the bookstore, cafeteria, and several administrative offices.

Students who are employed during schooling are not only more likely to receive better grades, but tare more likely to complete a degree program than their non working peers. Also, student jobs are beneficial after graduation. When an employment position comes down to several candidates with the same educational qualifications, employers are more inclined to hire the graduate who has work place experience. Having a job while attending college shows the potential employer that you are able to manage your time, stay organized, work hard, and multi-task.

IKEA is a unique furniture store offering simple and cost-effective solutions. It’s well known for its sturdy and stylish bedroom furniture, office furniture and living room furniture. Chicago residents can shop at IKEA online or head to the local stores in Bolingbrook or Schaumburg.

One huge plus with IKEA is if you don’t have a knack for decorating, you can buy a complete room ensemble. For instance, a typical trendy IKEA bedroom display might include all of the following coordinating items. You can purchase one item or everything on the list:

bed with mattress

comforter and decorative pillows

night stand

wardrobe

lamp

mirror

curtains

wall shelves

If you go to the website for IKEA bedrooms you can click around and explore different bedroom ensembles. If you find a room you like, you can also click to specifically see ‘all products’ that are in that room, bringing up a list of those products and prices.

If you like to play online, IKEA Planner Tools take your decorating plans one step further. The tools allow you to drag and drop furniture into the room and fit them to your exact measurements. You can then view the room in 3-D, see the list of products and costs, save it to the IKEA server and go pick it up at nearest store.

College is a time to try new things, learn all you can, and to absorb experiences that will help you later on in life. But it is also the time to take a stand and to help others give a voice to their generation. Well this generation should give a voice to the environment.

As a college student you obviously won’t have the money to buy a hybrid or energy saving appliances, it’s hard enough saving money for laundry, but what you can do is daily energy savers that cost no money at all, in fact if practiced enough will save you money.

If taking big steps in the way of living green is not exactly for you, there are many small things you can do alone to insure a better environment:
-Start taking shorter showers. According to The Green Book by Elizabeth Rodgers and Thomas M. Kostigen, “Every two minutes you save on your shower can conserve more than ten gallons of water.” There are approximately 11 million college students, imagine how many gallons would be saved daily if we all did that.
-You can also use a water filter instead of buying bottled water. You can save money, water, and let’s face it much needed fridge space.
-Also make sure your microwave is clean, when it is it used less energy and less time to prepare your food.
-You can make sure you turn off the lights when you leave and turn off your appliances or electronics when they aren’t in use. Leaving your computer on while you are at class or leaving your cell phone charger plugged in uses nearly ten percent of your total electricity.

And these are just a couple of the things you can do as a student.

Some parents are considering an alternate housing plan for their students. They’re in favor of purchasing a condo, townhouse or single-family home for their child to live in while attending College. In some cases, it might be not a bad idea.

But, are students ready for such a big investment or undertaking? Consider the following four points when making your decision.

1. Buying is not a bargain everywhere. In some markets, renting is still more affordable. It depends on wether or not the area is has heavy competition for rentals.

2. You may not be ready to be a homeowner.
It takes a lot of responsibility and time to take on the duties of a homeowner. If you decide to buy a place with your parents, make sure that you are up to the challenge.

3. Being a college landlord isn’t easy. While the first use of the property will be for you to live in with your friends, it’s also important to have a plan for the home after you graduate. Consider renting it out to other students or friends after graduation. Make sure you have what it takes.

4. Discuss with your parents. Before you schedule a single showing, make sure that this is something that you and your parents are interested in. These are your college first years away from home, and you might not want this type of parental involvement or responsibility.
