The Young Agrarians Business Mentorship Network has been connecting farmers for twelve years. The BMN matches new and next-generation farmers 1- 10 years in business with experienced farmers to cultivate the skills for running financially and ecologically viable farms. Mentors support you to dig into the business of farming and lay the groundwork for long-term sustainability.

Whether you need business basics or strategic planning for long-term growth, gaining business development skills is one of the biggest challenges facing new farmers. Our aim is to provide new farmers with an opportunity to build their business knowledge and use it to grow their farm operations to achieve long-term viability.

Priority will be given (but not limited) to applicants who are new entrants into agriculture aged 18-35, having been in operation for 1-10 years.

ABOUT New Siberia Farms

New Siberia Farms is a certified organic dairy farm on Fairfield Island in Chilliwack, BC (1.5 hours east of Vancouver by car) in the midst of the Upper Fraser Valley surrounded by beautiful views of the Cascade and Fraser Mountain ranges. It has been a family-run operation since 1925 when the Balakshin family first arrived, fleeing Russia. The farm has endured challenges such as the Great Depression, the 1948 flood, and the collapse of the chicken hatching market in the 1960s, but it has remained resilient. Today, a hundred years later, New Siberia Farms Ltd. is still a small, family operation and the only organic dairy farm in Chilliwack. Our secret: not only do we measures success in the health of our soil and the comfort of our animals, we hire good people who stay with us for decades. POSITION TASKS

We are searching for the perfect fit to our farm and someone we can trust. Everything about our operation can be taught (read: we’re not necessarily looking for extensive experience) and would need someone who can oversee day-to-day operations of our dairy herd and pasture system. This is a role for someone who is passionate about organic food production, animal welfare, and wants to play an active role in the daily operations of a small farm.

Management

• Oversee daily herd management: herd health monitoring, breeding program, and calving
• Milking coverage for staff illness/leave
• Manage rotational grazing plans and pasture health across the farm
• Ensure ongoing compliance with organic certification standards, ProAction, and animal welfare protocols
• Management of 2–4 farm staff and seasonal help
• Maintain accurate herd, feed, and production records
• Manage equipment maintenance schedule and basic infrastructure upkeep
• Purchase on-farm inventory of supplies, tools and equipment
• Work with ownership on annual planning and budgeting

Milking & Animal Care

• Carry out regular milking shifts
• Monitor cow health during milking (checking for mastitis, injuries, or unusual behavior)
• Clean and sanitize milking equipment and parlour after each shift
• Ensure cows are handled calmly and safely when moving to and from the parlour
• Assist with feeding, bedding, and watering cows as required

Calf & Youngstock Care

• Responsible for calf health, debudding and vaccination/weaning schedule
• Feed and monitor calves, including bottle or pail feeding when necessary
• Maintain clean, dry, and safe housing for calves and youngstock

General Farm Work

• Clean barns, pens, and animal housing areas regularly
• Manage manure storage and field application
• Manage and support rotational grazing, fencing repairs, and general property upkeep and cleanliness

Health & Record-Keeping

• Report health concerns or injuries promptly to the farm owner
• Maintain written/digital records (milk production, treatments, calving, feed use, etc.)
• Follow all farm biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety protocols

Other Responsibilities

• Support with seasonal tasks (such as silage, haymaking, or herd moves)
• Assist other farm team members where needed in daily operations

WHAT WE OFFER

• Salary – A competitive salary between the range of $60,000 – $80,000 per year commensurate with experience.

ABOUT Cropthorne Farm

We are a certified organic, women led diverse vegetable farm located on Westham Island outside of Ladner, BC. In our 18th year, our focus is on growing a wide diversity of annual field crops, using greenhouses for both summer and winter growing. We harvest every week of the year and sell our produce at 2 weekly farmers markets in Vancouver, at our farmstand, our 2 seasonal CSA programs serving 200+ members and to top Vancouver restaurants.

At 24 acres we are a “big” small farm that focuses on innovative production methods to grow high quality vegetables for our community while centering crop health, personal sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Our team is made up of dedicated farmers who love what we do. We are passionate about sharing our knowledge of agriculture as we build strong community ties with staff, other growers and customers in our region.

Our team is made up of 7 year round employees plus an additional seasonal team of 6-7. We are committed to building long-term employees and have a supportive and dedicated management team that focuses on growing our staff. Most of our crew are entering their 5th+ year with us, with many folks on our team having moved up into more senior roles, whether Crew Supervisor, Post-Harvest Lead or Propagation Lead. WHY WE ARE HIRING

We are hiring a Field Supervisor for a one year maternity leave coverage. The Field Supervisor’s main responsibilities are the day-to-day management of the harvest and coordinating the farm crew on harvest days. The Field Supervisor ensures crops are harvested in a timely and productive manner. We are looking for someone who is as comfortable supervising a farm team of ten on a busy harvest day to helping organise and carry out a multitude of other field tasks, whether weeding, moving irrigation lines or hoophouse work. While the focus is on field and harvest tasks, and supervision of staff within that area, an array of other jobs such as post harvest wash and pack, hoophouse prep as well as markets and farmstand tasks can round out the job.

ABOUT YOU

You have some previous supervisory and growing experience. You are a progressive leader willing to learn and take on new challenges and ideas. You are tuned into the small stuff: quality, detail and efficiency and have strong organizational skills. You can lead by example; you can hustle; you are passionate about great quality, local food; You are flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and are dynamic in a fast-paced environment and thrive in process oriented systems.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years work experience in a supervisory or leadership role
• A minimum of 2 years of farm experience (tractor skills an asset but not required)
• Knowledge of vegetable agronomics and organic farming practices
• Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills

• Ability to work fast paced and flexible for changing needs
• Ability to give and take constructive feedback in supervisory role
• Ability to work independently with various levels of supervision
• Class 5 driver’s license
• Fluent in English; knowledge of Spanish an asset

• Ability to commit to a flexible work schedule with some extended hours and weekend work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides daily feedback to Farm Managers on the field and hoophouse aspect of the farm operation.
• Work closely with Farm Managers and Farm Leads to complete the daily task list, whether harvest, field activities, wash or pack-outs on schedule.
• Leads and directs the Farm Crew in the field and hoophouses, ensuring quality and productivity targets are met.
• Ensures that all farm operations are conducted in compliance with farm safety and food safety standards.
• Training, supervising and recordkeeping for farm related activities.

POSITION DETAILS

Term: This is a Full-Time, Contract – One Year Maternity Leave Coverage

• Ideal start date of: November 2026 through December 2027 with potential for extension or continuation of a similar role on the farm.
• Work schedule –Tuesday to Saturday, 37 to 48 hours/week depending on the season.
• Compensation – Based on experience, in the range of $25.00 – $28.00 per hour plus 4% vacation plus access to farm produce and flowers.

ABOUT Elphinstone Farm

Elphinstone Farm is a regenerative farm on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, located on a 60-acre property that includes approximately 17 acres of active and developing farmland and roughly 40 acres of forest. Current production includes blueberries, apples, black currants, greenhouse vegetables and seasonal market-garden crops. We operate two 30′ x 100′ greenhouses: one is being used for year-round food production, including winter crops for CSA boxes, while the second is being developed as a subtropical food forest and experimental growing space.

We are continuing to expand our market-garden production, including preparing additional outdoor growing areas for spring crops, while improving soil health through composting, mulching and regenerative growing practices. Farm work includes greenhouse production, field preparation, planting, harvesting, irrigation, pruning, crop maintenance and general property upkeep.

We use standard small-farm equipment and hand tools, including a tractor and attachments for mowing, soil preparation and general land maintenance.

Our primary sales channels are direct-to-consumer, including CSA boxes and local farm sales, with plans to expand local sales as production increases. We are also developing the farm as a demonstration site for resilient agricultural systems, including perennial food production, passive greenhouse heating, water conservation, solar energy and other low-energy farm technologies.

Elphinstone Farm is guided by regenerative, ecological and low-input farming principles. We are not currently certified organic, but we grow without synthetic pesticides or herbicides and focus on building healthy soil, increasing biodiversity and working with natural systems rather than against them.

Our approach is also informed by Indigenous principles of stewardship, reciprocity and respect for the land. As a Métis farmer, I am interested in continuing to learn from Indigenous food systems and in incorporating native and culturally significant food plants where appropriate.

Climate resilience is central to our long-term vision. We are exploring perennial and climate-adapted crops, native foods, water conservation, soil building, biodiversity, passive greenhouse heating and closed-loop systems that reduce outside inputs and make better use of on-farm resources.

Our goal is to create a productive, resilient farm that contributes to local food security while improving the health of the land over time.

DESIRED QUALITIES

We are looking for someone who is reliable, curious, resilient and willing to work hard in a healthy, sustainable way. They should be comfortable working independently once they have been shown what to do, while also enjoying collaboration and being part of a team. A good fit will be someone who takes initiative, asks questions, is open to learning, and can adapt as farm priorities change with the season and the weather

POSITION TASKS

The employee will assist with a range of general farm and greenhouse work, including planting, seeding, transplanting, watering, weeding, harvesting, bed preparation, composting, mulching and soil building.

Current projects include winter greenhouse production for CSA boxes, preparing approximately 1/4 acre of outdoor growing space for spring crops, and helping establish our second greenhouse as a subtropical food forest.

Other tasks may include irrigation, pruning, perennial planting, greenhouse maintenance, light infrastructure projects, use of hand tools and small farm equipment, and general farm and property maintenance. There may also be opportunities to assist with experimental projects involving passive heating, thermal mass, biofuel, solar and other low-energy farm systems.

POSITION DETAILS

Term: This is currently a seasonal position, starting in fall 2026, with approximately 20 hours per week. For the right person, there is potential for the live/work and for the role to continue longer-term and develop into a full-time position as the farm expands.

Hours per week: 20 hours per week.

Wage: $20 – $25/hour depending on experience.

ABOUT Ravensong Seeds & Herbals

Ravensong Seeds & Herbals is a small medicinal herb farm, seed company and herbal apothecary located on a forested acreage in Black Creek in the Comox Valley. We grow a diverse collection of medicinal and culinary herbs, flowers and seed crops using ecological growing practices.

Our farm includes extensive outdoor garden beds, propagation areas and greenhouses. Much of our work is done by hand using ordinary garden and farm tools, with small machinery used for tasks such as mowing and seasonal maintenance.

We grow and harvest plants for our own line of fresh-plant tinctures, herbal preparations and seeds. Our products are sold primarily through our online shop and directly to customers, and we also offer herbal education through workshops, courses, internships and our seasonal Herbal Apprenticeship program.

Our approach to farming is rooted in ecological growing practices, care for the soil and a close relationship with the seasonal rhythms of the plants we grow. We are not certified organic, but we use organic and ecological growing methods and do not use synthetic herbicides or pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers.

We grow our medicinal plants from seed or propagation through harvest and medicine making, with an emphasis on healthy soil, biodiversity and careful harvesting at the appropriate stage of plant development. Many of our perennial medicinal plants remain in the gardens for years, and we divide and replant them as part of maintaining healthy, productive plant communities.

DESIRED QUALITIES

We’re looking for someone dependable, hardworking, physically fit and genuinely happy doing physical work outdoors in all kinds of weather. This position is best suited to someone who enjoys gardening and working with their body and finds satisfaction in tasks such as weeding, digging, mulching and hauling wheelbarrows as much as harvesting beautiful medicinal plants.

We value curiosity, a positive and easygoing attitude, open-mindedness, attention to detail, initiative and the ability to work independently once a task has been learned. An interest in plants and herbal medicine is important. Previous farming, gardening, horticulture, landscaping or herbal experience is an asset but not essential. We are happy to teach the right person.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone interested in becoming a long-term member of our small farm team and returning season after season.

POSITION TASKS

The majority of the position involves tending our medicinal herb gardens, including planting and transplanting, propagation, weeding, mulching, watering, soil and bed preparation, mowing, seasonal maintenance, digging and dividing perennial plants, and other general garden work.

Seasonal work also includes harvesting medicinal flowers, leaves, seeds and roots; washing and processing roots; cleaning and packaging seeds; making fresh-plant tinctures and other herbal preparations; occasional wildcrafting; and helping with work in our apothecary.

The work is physically demanding and involves spending most of the day outdoors and on your feet, with frequent walking, bending, kneeling, digging, lifting, carrying, pushing loaded wheelbarrows and repetitive tasks.

POSITION DETAILS

Term: Start date is September 22, 2026, although there may be some flexibility for the right candidate.

This is a long-term seasonal position running from approximately March through November each year, with December through February off. We are specifically hoping to find someone who would like to return each spring and grow into the position over several years.

Hours per week: Approximately 21 hours per week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, approximately 9:00 am–4:00 pm.

Wage: $22–$25 per hour, depending on experience.

We believe growing experience, responsibility and long-term commitment to the farm should be recognized, and wages increase incrementally as the employee’s role at Ravensong develops over time.

The position also provides extensive hands-on learning in medicinal plant cultivation, propagation, harvesting, seed production and herbal medicine making.
