Claymation Workshop at Brykerwoods Elementary

Students at Brykerwoods Elementary who participated in the Austin Film Festival after-school claymation workshop have been working hard on learning the ins-and-outs of stop-motion filmmaking.

Their projects have recently been completed and will be screened for parents and students at a morning assembly.

The program lasted 6 weeks, students meeting after school for two hours once a week, and is the first venture of the Young Filmmakers Program into Elementary School.

Based on a true story, a poor Illinois town comes together behind the local Pop Warner football team and their unlikely quarterback, Jasmine Plummer (Keke Palmer), the first female in Pop Warner's history. Under the tutelage of her uncle Curtis (Ice Cube), a former high school football star, Jasmine leads her team, the Minden Browns to the Pop Warner Super Bowl and inspires the town of Minden, Illinois to reclaim some of its former glory.

Calling all teens!

The Austin Film Festival looks forward to showcasing the works of teen filmmakers from around the country during the 15th Annual Austin Film Festival as part of the Young Filmmakers Competition! Students ages 13-18 are encouraged to submit their film, free of charge, for a chance to win extraordinary prizes.

The winning film will be screened at the Festival, and the winner will be recognized during the Awards Luncheon on Saturday, October 18th. The winners will be in the company of other awardees who, in the past, have included such names as Oliver Stone (Alexander, World Trade Center, Any Given Sunday), Glenn Gordon Caron ("Moonlighting", "Medium"), and John Milius (Apocalypse Now).

The competition is free, so start submitting your films now!

Students from around the country are welcome to submit their original works and entry form by July 15th to:

2008 Summer Film Camp

Unleash your child's imagination this summer!

The 2008 Austin Film Festival Summer Film Camp, held at McCallum High School, is still enrolling for late summer sessions.

Students 9-12 can participate in instructor-led claymation courses, which equip children with the tools and guidance necessary to create their own animated, stop-motion films.

All finished projects will be screened on Sunday, August 10 at the Regal Arbor Cinema for friends, family, and the public to enjoy.
