Hello everyone,

Happy Remembrance Day.

Remember those who loved, and were loved. Enjoy your day off and your moment of silence, and wear your poppy proudly.

Here are a few Remembrance Day facts you may not have known:

Remembrance Day commemorates Canadians who died in service to Canada from the South African War to current missions. It is held every November 11.

The first Remembrance Day was conducted in 1919 throughout the Commonwealth. Originally called Armistice Day, it commemorated the end of the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.: the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

From 1923 to 1931, Armistice Day was held on the Monday of the week in which November 11 fell. Thanksgiving was also celebrated on this day.
The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day. Replica poppies are sold by the Royal Canadian Legion to raise money for Veterans.

I'm sure by now you've all seen The Dark Knight, and if you haven't, cancel all your plans for tonight because that's what you're doing.

Have you ever wondered how in some scenes people will turn their head and then turn back and suddenly Batman is gone? Well I thought you would all really enjoy this to prep you for the weekend!

Community spotlight, events and free stuff!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I just wanted to bring up something that Servus does called community spotlight.

How the Program Works

Servus pays for a 60 second radio spot, which is divided into two parts. The first 30 seconds is a commercial message about the credit union, which talks about current programs, products and offers.

The second half of the spot is a public service announcement dedicated to local non-profit events. Any non-profit group (excluding political, religious and financial institution groups) that want to have their event advertised calls the radio station directly with the event details.

So if you or your local non-profit have any upcoming events, you should definitely look into checking out this program! Click here for more information!

Make sure if you have any upcoming events to add them to our Events Calendar! And of course, because this is a free service you should check out some other free stuff and free services were constantly finding all over the place in our Free Stuff section!

Of course, feel free to leave as many events and free things that you can think of!

How to make your home cozy for winter!

Happy Tuesday!

Exactly a year ago today I was getting surprised in a Boston Pizza and being told that I won the spokester position!

Oh what a year it has been so far, but I'm not finished yet!

Some people like to invent board games, but I like spokestering. Today I wanted to give you some tips on how to keep your home cozy for the winter season.

In the bedroom if you have a hardwood or linoleum floor, it can get pretty cold in the winter months! Make sure you pick up a cheap area rug, it can add some extra decorative zest to your sleeping quarters and will supply your toezy-whoazies with warmth when you get out of bed.
Buy a small space heater and put in by the front entrance of your house. This will counter act the cold air getting in from the constant opening and closing of the door. It will also make your house warm and inviting! Bonus!
You can do something similar in the bathroom so your hair doesn’t form icicles when you get out of the shower!
Make sure to have some nice blankets and throws in your living room to snuggle up under when you’re spending a long time watching some TV or reading your favorite book. Or maybe you’re watching that fireplace channel and getting some extra subliminal warmth.

Have fun warming up your home for winter and decorating for Christmas. I mean I won’t start the whole Christmas early thing, but when you think it’s appropriate to start decorating, tell me, because I could really go for some decorating and Nat King Cole right now.

Sunrise House wins!

Save Halloween cash!

Halloween is fun. Even though it’s kind of a non-holiday and can get expensive for parents, the kids love it. I know many people in college right now who will be preparing to celebrate a full-throttle Halloween too. So I figured I should show you 5 ways that you can save money this Halloween so that you still have money for Christmas, let’s begin shall we:

Buy your pumpkins the day before Halloween. You won’t get as good of a selection, and you might have to fight with an old lady to get the last one, but they’ll be half-priced, and you can buy more than one for decoration.
Use everyday items to decorate the house. Toilet paper mummies, cereal box headstones, cotton-ball cobwebs, and milk jug skeletons. You can find lots of things around the house without to spook people without having to spend an arm and a leg. (You can make a fake arm and leg anyways out of things you find around the house and zombie it up.)
Instead of throwing a party, play a game. Save money on party supplies. Get your friends together to create a murder mystery. Take pictures of Halloween related things and then have a scavenger hunt. Or find an abandoned hospital and make a Blair With style documentary. Just don’t die at the end and don’t say I told you to do it.
Make your own costumes. Most of the time this involves thinking of some kind of clever pun: A shark on a pool table = Pool Shark, potato satellite = ‘Spud’nick. Okay, I stole the second one from Friends, but puns make good Halloween costumes. Also, celebrities. Save money with these.
If you’re celebrating Halloween with your bf/gf, pool boy or mistress. Have a scary movie marathon instead of going out. Usually there will be some scary movies on cable, and if not, hit up the Red Box and get your Friday the 13^th on.

These are only some of the ways you can save money on Halloween, I’m sure you know many of them too so please feel free to enlighten me in the comments section.
