Projects come and projects go

Today is my last day as a Council member for MNPoly. I'm still helping with their website, but I will no longer have to "lead" the group. I have a couple of huge poly activism projects on my plate that have caused me to focus more on a national level than on a local, social level.
To give you guys an idea of what I'm talking about on being busy, here's what my convention calendar looks like:

Sex 2.0 was a powerful weekend for me. In addition to meeting a lot of awesome people, my worldview was shaken a little (in a good way).

The majority of the world shifting happened during Veronica Monet's session about the Madonna/Whore complex. During the session, one of the participants brought up the conflict they felt about indulging in their sexual desire - specifically activities that involved inflicting pain on others. Such activities run against what we think "good people" do.

That struck a chord with me. My mind started racing at 60 miles an hour (or faster than whatever the 'speed limit' was ;) ). I felt my cheeks start to flush and couldn't tell if my eyes were going to water. I kept my head down, focused on microblogging the event, and told myself I would deal with my emotions later.

Later was these past two months.

If the next 2 weeks are a "wake-up call", who is the one that needs to be "woken up"?

This is the first year in several that there won't be a polyamory booth at the Twin Cities Pride. Nor will there be a polyamory info/party room at CONvergence.

I am strangely okay with this. Actually, I'm very overjoyed by this. It will be a vacation. A wake-up call. A clue-by-four. A chance for people to take a break and re-assess things.

Getting back to the basics

One of my more memorable moments during Sex 2.0 was Saturday at lunch with @Cunningminx, @Graydancer, and @TalkingFigLeaf. The discussion danced around the topic of politics. There were some off comments made about Ann Coulter, after which one of the people patted my arm reassuringly.

Why did they do this, you may ask? I'm very open and upfront about being "right of center" politically. My views are such that I could be labeled either a moderate Republican or Libertarian (closer to the latter). The assumption was that I either liked Ann Coulter or was a fan of her views.

You know how each subgroup has those people that you wish didn't get to talk in public? That's how I feel about Ann Coulter and the other wingnuts. Not all conservatives think in such extremes. What do they believe and think? I'll run through the basics of conservative logic.

Head did not explode!

My trip to Seattle, WA for Sex 2.0 was full of awesome!

For those that are not familiar with the event - Sex 2.0 is a conference where sex educators of all types can meet, share experiences, and learn from one another. The topic that were presented at the panels and sessions dealt with the multiple aspects of feminism, sexuality, and social media (and in some cases the intersections between them). This was the third year of the conference, and it's future (where it's being held ... if it's being held again) are currently under discussion.

Now for the juicy details of my trip...

A couple months ago I heard about Sex 2.0. I thought "Hey... social media + feminism + sex positive culture... that would be cool to attend and possibly speak at."

Based on what I've seen for session/panel discussion topics and Twitter feeds, I am probably going to experience culture shock this weekend.

Probably meaning I most likely will.

For those of you that are visiting my site after a long break, you're probably wondering what happened to purple background with green florals (and me in the knit kitty hat)... or the beastly design that I tried for a month. They're both gone and I went to this clean design. I also have a hawt logo :)

I transitioned from WordPress to Drupal for site design. I like Drupal's modular approach for piecing together sections of a site. I also like not having to mess with the code when I want to change the layout :)

So much accomplished... and a lot more to do!

The Poly Living Conference and Poly Leadership Network summit were awesome, and I was amazed at how well everything went. Last weekend exceeded my expectations and hopes, and I'm inspired by the camaraderie that formed among fellow polyfolk and fellow leaders/"movers & shakers".
