IRO: Railway Operations during the Olympics

Once the celebrations for London being picked for the 2012 Olympic Games had finished thoughts turned immediately to how the games would affect UK infrastructure. This joint presentation by Paul Ellis, Programme Manager 2012 Readiness for Network Rail, and Angie Doll, Southeastern Commercial Manager, will discuss the key role the rail industry will play in transporting people to and from the games.

IRO: Javelin test train

An opportunity to travel on a 12-car Javelin train from St. Pancras to Ebbsfleet as part of the testing process for the Olympics delivery. 1000 volunteers are being sought to help test station operational and stewarding plans. The test will start at St Pancras at 1030 and finish at 1330, with a reception and presentation in the British Library afterwards.

IMechE: Young Members Presentation Competition - Final

The national final of the Young Members Presentation Competition organised by the Railway Division. Winning contestants from the centres\' heats present on their chosen topic, with the judges then awarding a prize of £1,000 for the winner and £250 for the two runners up.

Young Railway Professionals: Black Tie Dinner & launch event

This is the first event of the Young Railway Professionals, a group formed from the young members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Railway Operators, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers. The dinner in open to all young professionals in the railway industry.

Andrew Haines, Managing Director of the Rail Division of FirstGroup addressed a healthy crowd from the Young Professionals on July 10th. He started by charting his own railway career, rising from the lost luggage office at Victoria to the MD of the country's largest train operating group with some 23% of the passenger market.

Network Rail's New Measurement Train (NMT) was the setting for the IRO Young Professionals second field-trip. Eddy Locke, NMT manager, was host on a return trip between London St Pancras and Bedford on Thursday 8 June 2006, and explained what the NMT was capable of.
