UPDATE Loss of a Friend

A few weeks ago, I posted about our family friend that had been killed and the young son she left behind. I am sad to say that the child has now forever lost his father as well. The father took his own life yesterday. I can't imagine how lost the child must feel. I know our 2 year can't go an hour without asking me where her daddy is (even though she knows he is at work.) How do you explain o such a young child that they will never see EITHER of his parents again? I don't know, but it breaks my heart.

Please keep this child and both families in your prayers.

Potty Training Our Princess

My daughter tuned 2 1/2 earlier this month. i was worried that she was behind on potty training. Being that we were a college family with no real schedule or permanent place to live (we had to move in and out of the dorms every school year), the doctor recommended waiting until we were stable. We are hosting a Pull-Ups House Party next weekend and I was worried she'd be the oldest one there not having made any potty training progress.

Well, our princess decided that she would start going to the potty this week. On Monday, she used it for the first time!! She did it all by herself. We were not expecting it. She grabbed her potty out of her bathroom, took it into the living room (in front of the television, LOL) and did it. I was taking a nap and missed the whole thing! Yesterday she decided to give it another shot while she was supposed to be brushing her teeth for bed. I guess she got the feeling to go and sat down on the potty. Just now she told me she had to go and she did it again!!

I am just so excited. She's even more excited since it means she gets a sticker!

Is a Good Marriage Not Good Enough for TV?

I will confess...watching reality television is my weakness. Especially the ones with "wives" in the title. I was watching a reunion special and realize that another addition had been made to the cast - a single/divorced woman and the other I'm not sure. The thought crossed my mind that several of my fave shows now have single women as regular cast members EVEN though the title refers to being wives or being in love. I'm not hating on these women by any means, some happen to be my favorite out of all their cast mates.

The fact is, we rarely see examples of good marriages. Many of these women are in their second marriage, mid-divorce, or still in the "newlywed" stage. The marriages we do see on television aren't without their faults, but really whose is? There's maybe three marriages TOPS, out of five or more women on the show. And it seems a lot of the drama flows from the single or divorced women. Just saying.

So does that mean that a full cast of women with good marriages aren't good enough for tv? Or is it that they're just too hard to find?

I don't know. What do you think?

(in)Real Life Conference 2012!

I am happy to blog about the upcoming, first ever, (in)courage conference! On April 27th and 28th, (in)RL by (in)courage is "Bringing the Beach House to You." This is a whole new level of conference. The conference takes place online, so there's no waiting lists, no need for making travel accomodations, and unlimited number of spots! Loss of a Friend

Early this morning we learned that one of my husband's childhood friends was lost in a senseless act of violence. I had the pleasure of meeting his friend a few years ago, a month or so before giving birth to our daughter. A beautiful person.

Situations such as this brings out the hurt (and sometimes, ignorance) in everyone. Just reading the Facebook posts from the friends of the victim and the friends of the alleged killer, it's hard to refrain from posting myself. Now is not a time for ignorance, it's a time of grieving. I'm grieving most for the small child in this situation, that no longer has their mother or father. One parent will be buried while the other most likely in prison. I also grieve for the families who have both lost their child. Most people tend to forget that the alleged's family also loses when their loved one is sentenced to life in prison or the death penalty. Though it does not compare to the degree of loss in the victim's family, it's a loss nonetheless.

I have a background in criminal justice which helps me to be objective. I though about keeping these to myself or writing a status on Facebook myself. That's where this blog is such a blessing. Thanks for understanding my need to post this here. Take care and hug your loved ones a little more today for me.

Home Decor Deals at Rite Aid!

I am so excited to announce that my family and I are moving to Houston, Texas!! My husband recently graduated and received a job offer there. I am so proud of him and where God has brought us in our marriage and individually. I tell you, God is good!!

Moving from our small, 1 bedroom family dorm (yes, they do exist LOL) to a large two bedroom, two bathroom traditional apartment, we are desperately in need of classier decor. Hubby says I can't have a decorating budget, so you know I have to get my decor another way. While browsing at Rite-Aid yesterday, I found that their Christmas items are marked down to 75% off. This includes gift items!!

I was able to score a small tabletop water fountain for $1.99 and a 3 flameless candle set w/rocks & tray for $3.74. Together, these retailed for $22.98 and we only spent $5.73!! At this rate, we'll have a lovely decorated house in no time, for a fraction of the cost. Love my deals!

Yesterday I decided to browse a few stores while hubby went to play basketball with the guys. It has been a while since I went to a Walgreens store, so on a whim, I stopped by. Here is what I found:

CLEARANCED MAKEUP!! Sally Hansen, Rimmel, Loreal, Maybelline, etc for under $2 each!! To make the deals even sweeter, I found "$1 off Sally Hansen nail polish" coupons at the beauty counter and many beauty items advertised BOGO 50% off. I ended up purchasing 3 items for under $3 (not including tax.)

Sally Hansen Nail Polish, Clearanced at $1.29, Used (1) $1.00 off coupon = $0.29!!
Rimmel Eye Shadow, Clearanced at $1.79
Rimmel Lip Gloss, Clearanced at $1.69 - $0.85 BOGO Discount = $0.84
Total paid = $2.92!!
A savings of 85%!!

This total could have been less with a Rimmel coupons that are found in most AllYou magazines. Considering I was totally unprepared for this, I didn't do too bad, I must say.

Thanksgiving in Tampa

Every year we celebrate Thanksgiving with hubby's side of the family. Typically, we don't have to travel far since so many of his relatives live in our hometown. We were fortunate enough to travel to Tampa for Thanksgiving this year. It was more of a mini-vacation than your traditional Thanksgiving. We actually ate at Golden Corral for Thanksgiving dinner! Not by our choice, believe me. Lack of planning to say the least. Don't even get me started with the family drama, LOL!

The next day at the beach was well worth the dinner we were subjected to. Me and hubby were able to sneak in a few minutes of semi-alone time and relax. It was exactly what we need to reconnect and refocus on the weeks ahead with hubby's graduation and our move/relocation.

I was kind of disappointed to not be able to take advantage of the Black Friday deals, but my mother hooked me up by snagging a few of the deals I wanted to get for my little one. Thank God for mother's! I let her in on the deals and she helps me out when I don't have the means (transportation, and sometimes, money.)

All-in-all, I am happy to be home and getting ready for the holidays. Be sure to check out the Christmas Spending list on the right sidebar to see how I'm doing on my gifts this year.

Review: HotPants by Zaggora

I am typically in sweat pants and a tank when I work out. I always think how nice it would be to have specialized workout gear. But what type would I buy? There are yoga pants, yoga shorts, running shorts, cycling shorts, etc. How do I pick just one type to do all of my activities?

That is why I really excited to try HotPants by Zaggora. They are workout shorts designed for any type of activity, including housework! The shorts contain bio-ceramic technology that emits far infrared rays and reflects the heat back to the body. This warms up the tissue deep below the skin’s surface and breaks down fat cells, helping to smooth our that cellulite. After wearing them only 30 minutes a day, the user can expect similar results a if they completed 60 minutes of activity. In Zaggora's research, they found that most women saw results in weeks and have created a 2 week challenge for all to participate in. I'm only halfway into the challenge but can say that my target areas are feeling the heat of the HotPants and I am very happy with the progress I am making. I can see why they've taken the UK by storm!

These shorts are very comfortable. I could easily wear these around the house, as they are very attractive too (It smooths some of that baby fat left from my daughter.) They can be worn alone or under clothes. The next time I do our major grocery shopping, I am wearing this under my clothes. Shopping is already a workout for me, so I might as well maximize the results of all that walking, pushing the cart, bending and lifting!

In my opinion, HotPants are a keeper. Start off with a pair or two. They are hand wash only and by having more than one on hand, you are sure not to miss an opportunity to maximize whatever activity you find yourself doing that day. These would make a great gift for your friends, relatives and even for yourself. Consider it motivation to start your New Years Resolution for 2012 now.
