If you’re into science and technology at all, I bet you’ve wondered exactly what sort of gadgets and technology mankind will have in the distant future. Thinking about the distant future of 100,000 years from now, odds are we would barely recognize human society. Mankind has made incredible gains in technology over the last 100 years, over the next 100,000 years the changes will be startling.

One thing I’ve never really considered is will mankind themselves change in the future. I’ve always assumed we would look the same, only our toys would change. An artist and researcher named Nickolay Lamm, who also happens to be a computational geneticists, has offered up the rendering of what he believes humans could look like 100,000 years in the future.

Basically, we would look very similar only we would have gigantic heads, bigger eyes, and larger nostrils. Lamm says the bigger head would be to contain our larger brains, the larger nostrils would be to help us breathe on other planets, and our skin will be more pigmented to help protect us from UV rays. All I know is the artist renderings remind me a lot of Megamind minus the blue skin.

Samsung has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. The device is the first camera-focused Android smartphone from the South Korean manufacturer. With a 16-megapixel CMOS Sensor, 16x optical zoom, Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) and Xenon Flash, the smartphone might be an interesting device for photography enthusiasts.

Staying in line with previous rumours, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom comes with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display with a resolution of 540×960 pixels. It is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and offers 8GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card. Along with the 16-megapixel rear shooter, the device also comes with a 1.9-megapixel front facing camera. The device runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

The phone also comes with Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/5GHz (ac), NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), A-GPS connectivity options and a 2,330mAh battery. On the sensor front, the device has Accelerometer, Geomagnetic, Proximity, Gyroscope and RGB Light sensors.

The smartphone camera hybrid comes with a dedicated shutter button. Along with the hardware, Samsung has incorporated various features and modes in the software of the device as well to add to the camera capabilities of the device.

The ISO can be adjusted up to 3200, something that is seldom seen in normal smartphones. The hybrid can be used to click continuous shots at 4fps max with auto focus. The camera also comes with up to 25 smart mode options. These smart modes are namely Beauty face, Best photo, Continuous shot, Best face, Kids shot, Landscape, Dawn, Snow, Macro, Food, Party/Indoor, Action freeze, Rich tone (HDR), Panorama, Waterfall, Animated photo, Drama, Eraser, Sound & Shot, Silhouette, Sunset, Night, Fireworks, Light trace and Smart mode suggest.

There is also an expert mode with P/S/M/C options, presumably to let you click pictures in Program, Shutter Priority, Manual and Custom modes, just like a camera.

Samsung has also introduced special functionalities to the ‘Zoom Ring’. When you’re in the middle of a phone call, a twist of the Zoom Ring will activate the in-call photo share feature. The feature lets you capture and send an image directly via MMS to whoever you are talking to.

With all these features, the phone will also come preloaded with Samsung apps such as Samsung Hub, Samsung Link, Samsung ChatON, S Voice and S Translator.

If you have been wondering what goes into a new Google Glass device you might be pleased to learn that the Catwig website has performed a complete Google Glass teardown revealing its inner workings to the world.

The detailed Google Glass teardown revealed that Google had equipped their Google Glass eyewear with a battery offering a capacity of just 570mAh.

As you can see in the image above the team over at Catwig dismantled the Google Glass eyewear, revealing all its inner workings even the down to the smallest which are no bigger than the US dime coin.

The Catwig Team explained: “We eagerly brought Glass back to the lab to begin the dissection. Speculation reigned: what if the entire body of Glass is potted with epoxy requiring strong solvents to access? Which part is the battery in? How hackable is this thing? Where are the sensors? Any extra hardware features yet to be unlocked by future software updates? But first, where to even begin opening it? With no idea of what lay ahead, we started by removing the titanium frame from the pod that holds all the good stuff.”

For more information on the Google Glass teardown jump over to the Catwig website for a detailed run through of all the devices components and how they fit together.

Apple on Monday unveiled its hotly anticipated iTunes Radio Service, as the iconic maker of the iPhone moved to challenge streaming music operators like Pandora and Spotify.

The free Internet radio service features over 200 stations “and an incredible catalog of music from the iTunes Store,” Apple said in a statement as it opened its annual developers conference in San Francisco.

The ad-supported free music service is set to launch later this year and “offers music fans access to thousands of new songs every week, as well as serving up exclusive music from new and popular artists before you hear them anywhere else,” an Apple statement said.

The service will be integrated with Apple’s personal voice-assistant software program Siri, so users will be able to find out “Who plays that song?” or ask the program to “Play more like this.”

“iTunes Radio is an incredible way to listen to personalized radio stations which have been created just for you,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services.

“It’s the music you love most and the music you’re going to love, and you can easily buy it from the iTunes Store with just one click”.

Scientists around the world are working hard to create invisibility cloaks that render objects invisible in certain spectrum, including to our eyes. So far, scientists have been able to create tiny invisibility cloaks that are only able to hide very small objects from very limited viewing angles and very limited optical frequencies. These tricks have accomplished using things such as transformation optics and metamaterials.

A group of scientists from the United States working at the University of Rochester and Benjamin Howell has devised a method of making a simple optical cloak that is able to hide huge objects over the entire optical spectrum. However, the scientists say that there is one significant compromise, the trick only works from one direction. The invisibility cloak is designed using conventional lenses and mirrors.

While it’s not quite the same as the invisibility cloak worn by Harry Potter, scientists have revealed how it is possible to steer light around the region of space they want to hide using lenses and mirrors

One of their invisibility cloaks is large enough for a person. The lens and mirror-based invisibility cloak is able to hide objects across an entire optical range. The big caveat with this invisibility cloak is that it only works in one direction. If you’d you the invisibility cloak from the rear the ruse is up.

It’s obvious that today schools don’t place an emphasis on the internet, or technology in general, despite we being in a world that places a major emphasis on regular internet interaction and connectivity.

President Obama said during a speech at a high school in Mooresville, North Carolina that he intends to order federal agencies to find the funds to equip 99% of the United States’ public schools with high-speed broadband internet and Wi-Fi by 2018.

“We are living in a digital age, and to help our students get ahead, we must make sure they have access to cutting-edge technology,” Obama said in a statement published by the White House. According to a fact sheet (PDF) posted along with the press release, the connections must be at least 100 Mbps with a goal of eventually increasing speeds up to 1 Gbps.

While an ambitious goal, I find it a difficult to believe. It’s no secret that school funding is continually being cut nationwide on an annual basis. How exactly are all these public schools supposed to pay for better internet and better equipment?

Sure, less than 20% of educators surveyed said their schools’ internet capabilities meet their teaching needs, but I doubt any of them would be willing to give up their job for the cause. All we can do is wait and see if this “order” ever really comes to fruition.

Stream of conscious writing exercises, in particular, have been identified as helpful stress coping methods. Keeping a journal, for example, or trying out free-writing exercises, can drastically reduce your levels of stress. According to below infographic, writing can serve as a calming, meditative tool.

This infographic informs us that storytellers have the power to “plant emotions, thoughts, and ideas into the brain of the listener.” But all of these mind-shaping tools can be completely disregarded if one chooses to insert a cliché into his or her writing. When you hear phrases like “love is blind” or “dumb blonde,” your brain skips over these ideas and simply accepts them as a collection of words. Clichés have become so familiar to us that the sensory responses they are supposed to evoke are often severely diluted.

So, whether you’re trying to de-stress, or improve your writing, check out the infographic below for some helpful insight into the goings-on of your brain. I hope you never stop writing!

Since July 2012, Google has been implementing their fiber service in Kansas City and the local internet service providers are peeing their pants.Time Warner and AT&T cannot compete with Google’s speed or price.

When Google announced they were coming to Austin, AT&T announced they would be offering 1GB internet just like Google. Just like the younger sibling who says “that’s not fair!” – AT&T hasn’t done the research or groundwork for laying 1GB fiber. They haven’t been working with the city for the last year or two on building the infrastructure needed using the newest fiber cables like Google has. AT&T’s statement is a complete bluff.

And unless you’re a cable company executive, you’ll be ecstatic when fiber hits your town too. All ISPs will now have competitive speeds and lower pricing. Its already happening in Kansas City. Google has the balls to stand up to the ISP oligarchy and put them in their place. Give them a helping hand when they arrive in your city.
