They have been developed to meet certain looks for the garden and users design some. The reason behind such designs is the fact that these gardens are majorly used for beatification of places. Many people who do not have space for huge gardens are saved by this innovation as the gardens use very little space. There are certain factors to consider when selecting the best gardens for your place or building to ensure you get the best looks in the end.

When selecting the most appropriate types of garden containers for your home, building, or even hotel, it is good to look at the kind of place you want the garden to be. Some garden containers only look good in certain places and not others due to some reasons. It is good to select categories of garden containers according to the targeted place of location. Therefore, in this light, you may have to consider going for designer containers for perfect results.

It is also good to ensure that the container you go for is one that stays long without rotting or is very resistant to rotting. You will have to analyze various types of garden containers and look at their ability to resist insect infestations, fungi, molds, and water seepage. A garden container that rots with time gives you the extra effort of having to replace them every time they degrade. It might get very complicated trying to replace a garden that has been around the place for years and you may end up losing the original look of you garden.

The types of gardens containers should be chosen according to what they are going to contain. Look at the place it is going to be put to select the best for such a place as making a wrong choice of container may be detrimental to all your original plans. Containers that are meant for indoor purposes should have drainage mechanisms that will not lead to dampening of the interior sections of the building. On the contrary, larger containers meant for outside the building are supposed to be well drained and rot-resistant at the same time. They should be able to carry more plants for a long period. Space for further growth should also be available on the containers.

It is right to say that the kind of gardens we have depend on the types of garden containers under them. A good and beautiful flowerbed for example is based upon a well-drained, spacious garden and it can only be that especially when the only source of soil is within the garden.

A container garden is as the name suggests a garden literally in containers. A container garden is good if you want to supplement the food you eat with fresh grown produce and you can also plant flowers and decorative plants which you can use to decorate balconies, patios, and other areas of your home.

For the containers, you can use just about anything; gardening pots, buckets, baskets, wooden crates, an old watering can or any old containers . First, get all the things you need and prepare them.

Get the container you will be using and make holes so that these will serve as the aerating as well as drainage holes so that excess water can drain and doesn’t drown the plants. Don’t make holes that are too large so that the soil or potting mix will not pour out. For containers such as baskets or wooden crates, they may have enough space for aeration and drainage so you don’t have to add any more holes. However, be careful when using metal containers in the hot seasons as these may cause the plants to dry up because they get hot quickly and retain the heat. The best containers to use are those from natural products such as those made from wood, clay or earthen pots and the baskets as they are woven from natural materials.

Next put in the soil or potting mix until the container is almost full. You can add some manure or fertilizer and mix it in with the soil or potting mix. This is not compulsory but it is highly recommended so that your plants can grow well and fast. Always add in some manure or fertilizer periodically for good growth results with your plants.

Now your ready to plant the seeds, seedlings or plants that you will be growing in the container and water the plants. Ensure you place the containers in an area where there is a lot of sun. Plants need sun to grow and they should be in an optimal sunlit area. In the warmer seasons, you may have to move the plants periodically so that they are not exposed to the hot sun for too long as this may cause them to dry up. When it is very hot, put them in shaded areas.

Water your plants often so that they don’t die because of drying up. It is recommended that you water them twice a day, in the morning and in the evening rather than during the day so that they retain and use the water. If you water the plants during the day especially when it is hot, the water evaporates before the plant can use up the water. In colder seasons, you can check to see if the plant needs water before you water it the two times in a day. Touch the soil and if it feels wet and soggy still from the last watering, you don’t need to add anymore. These are the steps that need to be strictly followed when you want to do this type of gardening.

Gardening has been one of the most common hobbies for centuries, and more and more people are beginning to enjoy this wonderful past time. A container garden has become one of the more common methods of gardening over the last few decades. It is especially popular in cities and areas with small yards. When it comes to container gardening vs. traditional gardening in these areas gardening with planters and containers will almost always win. A few of the benefits of container gardening include easy design, more control over soil quality, and a wider variety of plants that can be grown.

Traditional gardening involves growing plants in the ground or in a raised bed. However, container gardens are grown completely in planters and pots. This allows the plants to be moved around, and placed in the best places for optimal growth. The plants can also be brought indoors during unfavorable weather. Plants grown in containers also make great additions to decks, porches, and balconies. They can really soften the edges, and bring a nice splash of color to even the most drab of settings. The containers can even be customized to match the décor.

The ability to control soil quality is another great benefit of container gardening. With traditional gardening most people are stuck with whatever kind of soil they have in their yard or gardening area unless they want to spend a lot of money and time on soil amendments. When growing in containers gardeners can buy the type of soil their plants need. This also opens up a large variety of plants that may not be able to grow in the local soil.

Container gardening also makes it easier to control pests that may destroy beloved plants. The containers make it easier for gardeners to look for signs of bugs and small pests on their plants. It is also less difficult to quarantine any plants that may become infected with a fungus or disease. They also detour local wildlife that would eat or trample the plants.
One drawback to container gardening; plants grown in containers will lose moisture at a faster rate than plants that are grown in the ground. This means that the plants will need to be water more often, especially during hot, dry weather.

Containers that are used for planting should be chosen with care. Most plastic planters will fade in the sun, and become brittle. Untreated wood containers will rot quickly when used as planters. Cedar and redwood are naturally rot resistant and can make great planters. Whatever type of container that is used, the gardener should make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom of the container. Otherwise, the plant may become water logged and die.

When it comes to a container garden vs.a traditional garden it is easy to see the benefits of either. Container gardening is nice for beginners, needs less space, and often less work that traditional gardening. However, traditional gardening does provide a nice work out and lets gardeners get their hands a little dirtier.

Some people find uses for them such as to put them under something that they don’t want touching the ground. Some just collect them and stack them thinking that maybe they will find a use for them eventually.

My husband brought home about 6 very long pallets from one of his vending stops. Our plan was to put up a fence using them. He had about 15 more of these long pallets to bring home but someone on the night shift decided to clean up the place and burned them all.

What a disappointment that was. I was so looking forward to that. I had never seen long pallets like that before and probably never will again.. I would love to be able to finish my fence.

I found this great video that has wonderful ideas about ways to recycle all those old pallets.

While I was rummaging around in my basement last week I came across something I had bought at the junk store years ago.

I had paid a whole dollar for it and I don’t think it had ever been out of the box… A Food Dehydrator, HCIT?

Now I am not going to tell you I bought it with the intent of dehydrating food… I bought it because it was a dollar and it was brand new.

Gotta love a good junk store and I have a great one right up the road from me.. The Lions Den in Temperance, Michigan. I always enjoying going to that junk store and some days I get luckier than others. The day I found the food dehydrator was one of those luckier days. But then I moved it and I never saw it again until the other day.

Here in Michigan this is harvest season. So I thought I would plug it in and see what I could dehydrate. I started with herbs… oregano, cilantro, dill and one I forgot what it is but I am certain I will be able to use.

Next was peaches, my husband ate all of them within 2 days. I think he liked them. He brought me home huge beautiful mushrooms so they were next. Then it was onto bananas. My husband ate all of those in one night watching TV. I now have banana peppers in dehydrating. They smell so nice. I can’t wait to get them out to start something else. Hubby is asking for peaches again, so that will probably be next.

What a great little appliance this is. I plan on having it going 24/7 till I have nothing left to put in it, or until it stops working. As of now I know I have already gotten my dollars worth out of it.

Some site tell you to soak certain foods before you dehydrate them , other site tell you it isn’t necessary. Since I am all for less steps I have not soaked anything.

I am debating on asking for a bigger more powerful dehydrator for Christmas but I think my silversmith class will win out.

Maybe if I am a good girl …. I will get both!

My mother planted a container garden last year. She planted many containers that had both flowers and vegetables in them together. She was the talk of her neighborhood.

Mom put together a huge container that was planted with tomato plants, peppers, cucumbers and she added assorted flowers for color, it was beautiful. She gave this as a retirement gift at a party and it was admired by many.

I started my front porch container garden to late in the season to be able to brag about how it turned out. But… I am ready this year. I can’t wait till the weather warms up a bit.

I have found the most wonderful eBook and it offers great ideas about container gardening. I have gotten some great tips from it.

You can check it out here for yourself. Container Gardening Secrets
