What I wasn’t expecting was to be asked to meet with him afterwards.

Here’s what I learned about what Seth Aaron has been up to since winning season 7 (Season 9 recently finished) and his latest collection.

After we were introduced the first question I had for Seth Aaron was what had he been up to since winning, besides designing he has been been hosting events and giving talks, as well as filling in for Tim Gunn for season 9′s casting (Tim personally asked him).

Seth Aaron describes his garments as “sustainable sexy” and “fashion with a conscience.” So what does that mean? He has teamed up with Earthtec to provide ‘fashion-forward apparel that is 100% sustainable – made from recycled water bottles and organic materials’. I told him that reminded me of Canada’s own accessories designers Matt & Nat with their vegan and eco-friendly purses, bags and wallets.

The collection we saw walk the runway was his high fashion vision that he said he will be using as inspiration for a ready-to-wear collection that will be available in stores starting in Spring 2012. He is currently in talks with several different American chain stores.

I asked Seth Aaron what the inspiration was for his prints. He replied “my face”. And it literally was. He took a picture before he shaved his head and digitally worked it before turning it into prints.

I asked where he wanted his brand to be in 3-5 years. His response: Everywhere. With negotiations to have his collections mass produced for large department stores like Macy’s or Target starting Spring 2012 that might just happen.

As Tim Gun would say, “Make it work.” Good luck Seth Aaron!

Remember when Katie Holmes wore Tom Cruise’s jeans? A literal interpretation of the boyfriend jeans trend. I must have filed that away for a rainy day and Wednesday sure was rainy. I wore my husband’s jeans to dinner and man were they comfortable.

I wore this look to Vancouver Fashion Week day 3. After driving an hour each way to South Surrey for a very successful 3-hr Closet Makeover on Friday I was happy to relax and enjoy some fashion shows.

On a side note, I seem to favour styling these shoes with red lips.

Day 2 favourites:

This pretty one-shoulder floral dress from Papillon Eastern Imports Ltd. would be a great option for a guest to wear to a 2012 Summer wedding.

Day 3 favourites:

I thought the print on this deep v dress by LaSalle College student Nicole Barron was pretty. I don’t think the big gold button at the navel was needed but other than that I liked it a lot.

The back of this mint green dress by LaSalle College student Wilber Tellez was lovely as it had more of the lace that you see coming over the shoulders. I wanted the lace to had been a bit more muted in colour but that’s just my opinion. I couldn’t help but thinking that this would make a delicate short wedding dress in ivory.

His collection was quite a departure from the pieces we had seen at VFW from him in the spring with the beautiful ombre hand-dyed silks. This time I felt many of the pieces from collection were less wearable and more costume-y.

I really liked this glittery dress by Kam & Lee. The sad thing about it is the Télio fabric used for it was discontinued so hopefully the 10m they bought leaves them enough to make one in my size!

This maxi from Parade will be available in the spring at the Marimekko* store in Yaletown. Cailin mixed Télio fabrics – like this gorgeous purple silk below with playful Marimekko prints that the brand is known/recognized for. This dress had a lovely T detail in the back that was also used in a tank top made in the same silk fabric.

The styling was also spot-on for the Parade show and worked seamlessly with the garments to support them and not distract from them.
