With their recent plan of invading US, this track clearly illustrates the trademark Vines' guitar driven, loud and punchy garage rock. Judging from the decent bits from this early track. I really hope they will get back to their former glory days. The band's fifth album, 'Future Primitive' will be out in April 2011.
You can see we don't even share as much music as we used to, but we would like to keep up the tradition of sharing our favourite songs here, so here we go, for the fifth consecutive year! One can easily dismiss my taste, for I am a sucker for good hooks and melodies, but there is no right or wrong in music preference, I am just voicing out what I grew to love and enjoy over the past year. Hopefully we will stick around until this time next year.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">The key flavour of this standout track from 'Total Life Forever' lies in the melodic riff. With its jagged guitar cascading over a bouncy rhythm, 'Miami' produces a funky groovy vibration that got me hooked like a fisherman's hat.

'O.N.E.' is the energetic high of the band's sophomore album, leaping from the sound of reggae-ish percussion to a hyperactive synth line and the upbeat showcase of Chris Keating's vocal. Such buoyant and dynamic instrumentation. Simply brilliant.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Musically, 'Rococo' emphasises on simplicity, with a simple chord progression being repeated throughout the track, allowing the string, horn and vocal melodies to reveal themselves slowly, and eventually building up to a powerful crescendo of Butlet repeating the track title. Rococo is classic Arcade Fire at their musical best. Powerful stuff.
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Crystal Castles are certainly an acquired taste. This track is harsh, raw and atmospheric, jam-packed with the band's trademark eerie bleeps and synths, and Alica Glass's piercing squeals as the standout presence. From the start it seemed like I was witnessing the birth of a new Rock God, and it really was at the end.

Capitol was about half full and the bars were getting a workout when first supporting act Sydeny troubadour Jack Ladder strode onto the stage. Accompanied by Kirin J Callinan on guitar and a loop machine, Ladder displayed the richness of his sensually seductive vocal, performing a great mix of jazz, funk and psychedelia. I was kinda impressed with the set, despite some techinical difficulties. Time to check out more of his releases.

Sounding like a mix representation of rockabilly, grunge and soul, they delivered a solid, tight set. Single "Polka" was the most well-received, as the band belted it out with a raw joy that made everyone danced. The joyous and explosive set seemed to left the crowd lingering on a high, ready for the mighty headliner, Wolfmother 2.0.
With no more indication than that long awaited primal scream, the new-look lineup appeared on stage, and set the stage alight with "Dimension". Wolfmother blasted through the tracks from their self-titled debut for instance "White Unicorn", "Vagabond" and "Colossal" with impressive accuracy. New tracks from the highly anticipated Cosmic Egg were also premiered - "Cosmic Egg", "Back Round" and "White Feather", with the latter carries a vocal similar to Jack White at times. Heavy guitar riff and thumping drums were heard from from the old, and straight into the new.

Highlight of the set was when "Woman" was played, sending the audience to a fit of moshpit mania. Tightly sandwiched, I was being squeezed to the first row, how nice!

The new set-up provided the faithful old sound of Wolfmother with a brand new gearbox. With a second guitar, Wolfmother’s towering sound has grown exponentially. Andrew Stockdale's solos and slides catapulted us from a good time to a rock frenzy. He paused occasionally to interact with the crowd, and throwing in a few tasteful windmills and jumps. New bassist Ian Peres, with a similar afro as the frontman, lashed his four string and hurled his keyboard as if it was a rag doll. Drummer Dave Atkins, who at first glance reminded me of the annoying lead singer of One Buck Short, pounded the drums at a blistering pace. Guitarist Aidan Nemeth was at the far side of the corner, where unfortunately I couldn't get a good look of him.

On the downside, Andrew's vocals were barely heard, most probably caused by the subpar soundsystem on the microphone.

After a short intermission, Wolfmother came back to the stage and did an encore, before closing the set with "Joker & The Thief", as the audience collectively losing their mind in the night.

It was beyond words to catch the glorious and triumphant return of Wolfmother, and this is probably the best gig I have attended, well at least on par. Epic and electrifying.
If you like the old Kings Of Leon, and you think the current KOL has gone all mushy and lost their integrity to 'the Man', then you should look no further than Mona, minus Followill's Whitney-Houston-esque vocals. Tipped by NME as one of the 50 best bands of 2010, Mona was described as 'Nashville's next gen rock 'n' roll classicists'. With an extremely difficult-to-Google band name, all I know about the band is they are a Nashville, Tennesse based alternative rock four-piece and their first single “Listen To Your Love” will be released on Sept 13th in UK. You can now listen to another track 'Lines In The Track', and you will know why they are billed as the next big thing.
Delays, those lovely chaps from Southampton are back with their fourth album. Since 'Faded Seaside Glamour' charmed me with the band's ethereal soothing sound, I have never stranded away from Delays. Nevertheless, the two follow-ups 'You See Colours' and 'Everything's The Rush' did not seem to live up to the hype bulit up since their debut, instead we were offered a more polished 80's synth-focus sound, losing the essence of those good ol' Brit melodramatic pop.

With 'Star Tiger Star Ariel', however I believe the boys are back to their dream-pop prime that first caught our ears back then. Greg's signature falsetto vocal is still as dazzling, coupled with those melancholy tunes and infectious romantic lyrics; these combined the winning formula that keeps us wanting more, what more they reunited with their Duncan Lewis who produced their career peak 'Faded Seaside Glamour'.

The album opens with free download single 'Find A Home', a fragile ballad that will surely tug at your heart strings. Highlights of the album include 'The Lost Estate', an anthemic number with soaring catchy chorus, 'May 45', a heavily guitar driven that explores the rockier sound of the band, and 'Hold Fire', an ambient gem that slowly build alongside Greg's stunning vocal. ’Lakes Can Be Lethal’ is another potential single with the swelling string-led grandeur. Ultimately this album is going to stay in my car's stereo for awhile.
‘Serotonin’ is so aptly named that it is bursting with audio pleasure that one just cannot resist. This astonishing record is the third LP from Mystery Jets under a new record label Rough Trade. Moving away from the 80’s glossy sound and the focus on pop melodies and dance beats in the boys’ previous effort ‘Twenty One’, ‘Serotonin’ seems more like a follow-up to the prog-rock influenced debut ‘Making Dens’, but this time in a more tremendous sound that takes you right back to what you loved about Mystery Jets in the first place. Nevertheless it is still a youthful album, packed with acid-sharp lyrics, charming vocal harmonies and ear-catching hooks.

There are plenty of magical moments in the album, from the hugely inviting opener ‘Alice Springs’ to the melancholy ‘The Girl is Gone’, the dazzling synth-laid ‘Show Me the Light’ or the delightfully catchy title-track ‘Serotonin’. Lead single ‘Dream of another World’ is a feel-good pop gem that oozes positivity, one can’t help but wants to feel young and do as what the boys sing ‘do something that will make your mother cry, dreaming of another world’.

These Eel Pie boys have made a triumphant record bursting with life and attitude that Henry will certainly be proud of. Now I shall sit back and let the real serotonin kicks off from listening to this record.
Catapulted themselves into the limelight with their self-titled debut album, Miike Snow has returned with a new track, 'The Rabbit'. It is a brand new previously-unheard track featured in the band's deluxe version of the record, produced by the band and mixed by Madonna collaborator Stuart Price. Miike Snow had one of my favorite albums of all last year, and this track did not disappoint. It fits in perfectly between the pulsating electronics of previous tracks, - catchy hooks and thoughtful lyrics. Electro pop at its best.
We hear new music everyday, but a new band worthy to be blogged about is not easy to come by. But we just stumbled across one in a most unexpected way and it's all good.

The boys from A B & The Sea moved from Wisconsin to California to make thier music heard, and it's the most apt destination that they could have been, since their music is described as fun-breezy-beachy kind of surf rock, like that of the Beach Boys and the early Beatles. The first listen of A B & The Sea reminds me of the morning benders before they caught on the scene with Big Echo, then I found out it was no coincidence, as Chris Chu, the lead vocal from the morning benders, has been playing co-producer with Eric Frederic for the band's new songs.

The band has been releasing free music over abandthesea.net. So far 3 tracks have been unlocked, so you people go do me a favor and sign up for the downloads, so that I can lay my hands on the remaining two free downloads.

A B & The Sea - Yellow Haired Girl
yoongbinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03050558393683440692noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20560875.post-19990270363455698532010-04-08T22:03:00.005+08:002010-05-23T16:15:29.289+08:00Moon Theory

Miami Horror has been touring extensively in Australia, they were playing literally every festival in the past 6 months, but we still hear no news on the release of their full debut. I have been hooked to this young Berkeley indie pop quartet since the days of their amazing EPs 'Loose Change' and 'Boarded Doors'. The band is back with their sophomore 'Big Echo' out on March 9th, and with Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor as the producer, I believe the morning benders will finally get the attention they truly deserve.
'Big Echo' is as apt as it can get for the band's latest effort, it is made to be played loud and linger in your ears even after the audio goes off. Grizzly Bear-ish vocal harmonies are heard in the album but the band did not stray too much fron their brand of youthful rock that channels classic sound like The Beatles with endearing melodies. Boys I am impressed. If you have not heard of these boys, 'Big Echo' is definitely a great point to start with.

the morning benders - Excuses
the morning benders - Wet Cement
the morning benders - Crying (Roy Orbison cover)

yoongbinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03050558393683440692noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20560875.post-77917994039537251182010-02-07T13:45:00.055+08:002010-05-23T16:18:25.483+08:00St. Jerome's Laneway Festival @ Perth Cultural Center, Northbridge 06.02.2010

Northbridge was alive last Saturday, with the Cultural Centre fenced up for the 2010 Laneway Festival. Volunteering at the gate for few hours and free entrance to the festival after that? Sounds like a good deal to me.

After a hard's day work, it was off to PICA stage to catch Wild Beasts. The band amazed all with their dreamy sound. Hayden Thorpe's countererenor high pitched voice took over the stage perfectly, with Tom Fleming provided a deep vocal at times as well. Tracks played were mostly from the highly acclaimed 'Two Dancers', including 'The Fun Powder Plot', 'All the King's Men' and 'We Still Got the Taste Dancin' on Our Tongues'. I was made a fan on the spot.

On my way to the TAFE stage, there was a massive crowd going to the opposite direction, they were all bailing out to see the newly crowned triple j's Hottest 100 winner Mumford & Sons. It was a shame that I missed them but instead of catching them far away with such a massive crowd, I chose to go for the less known Hockey, and oh boy it was indeed a great decision. The band performed a tight set with funky bass lines, keyboards and electric guitar strum perfectly matched the lead singer’s smooth vocals. Two of their most recognisable and climactic tunes, Too Fake and Song Awat were played with tremendous energy and saw Hockey’s front man Ben Grubin energetically dancing around the stage.

Walking back to PICA stage, Daniel Johnston placed his book of lyrics and played an amazing set of acoustic guitar tracks. I had to admit that I never really heard of his songs before but it was nevertheless a great performance. Highlight of the set was when he played a cover of John Lennon's 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away' where everyone sang along joyously.

Up next was The XX, emerging from backstage with their right mix of cool, careless and alternative dreamscapes, with Islands and Crystalised being notable crowd favourites. Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim’s whispered vocals are as sexy as it gets, and they finished it off with Sim’s climatic and energetic cymbal solo.

At the main Museum Stage, headliner Florence + The Machine took the stage with all leg, hair and impressive vocals. Drawing the biggest crowd of the day, it was so squashy that I decided to leave just after 5 songs. Bad decision you might say? Well certainly not. Back at PICA, Sarah Blasko joined onstage with Dappled Cities to perform the infectious The Price, which I enjoyed thoroughly.

Closing out the show at PICA, Black Lips brought Laneway to a jagged flower punk end. The band roared their way fast, solid and tight through the likes of O Katrina, Cold hands, Veni Vedi Vici and Bad Kids. Florence Welch was behind the stage and the band members went to hug her in the middle of their set, which was pretty hillarious and random. There was no short of drunken antics as well, with bandmates kissin' each other, playing baseball with beer can and guitar and groupies on stage flashin'. Insane set indeed.

I was smiling my way troughout the festival. Such intimate performances, without the usual bogans and idiots that annoy the hell out of me. One of the great festivals I have been to. <s>

Wild Beasts - All The Kings Men
Hockey - Song Away
Black Lips - Bad Kid
<s>
</s></s>yoongbinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03050558393683440692noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20560875.post-51651191791795567832010-02-01T13:08:00.051+08:002010-06-27T19:49:15.796+08:00Big Day Out @ Claremont Showgrounds, Perth, 31.01.2010

Heat was scorching on this summer day but it did not deter 40,000 punters from enjoying themselves in the Australia's biggest music festival, Big Day Out. The fantastic music lineups were enough to take the mind off all things skin-singeing.

The first band I saw was Miami Horror at the Green Stage. It was the third time I've seen these guys and they managed to deliver a tight and vibrant set, without the drunkards who ruined the Melbourne gig few months ago. Lead singer Josh Moriarty was spotted with a new hairdo, strutting his guitar and doing his signature dancemoves in between tracks. Heading to the main stages, dressed in matching golden onesies, Bluejuice had the early bird warming up at the Blue Stage with their catchy chorus of Broken Leg and Vitriol and some random inflatable animals.

Staying at the main stage for two bands I wasn't interested in, Kasabian was up next. They were one of the biggest early international drawcards, with a massive crowd turning out and bleating along with front man Tom Meighan. The band exploded with Vlad the Impaler and received a glowing reception which was sincerely appreciated by the band. A solid set highlighted the band's class, which also included Where Did All The Love Go? and old favorite LSF and Processed Beats.

Up next at the Converse Essential Stage was Passion Pit. Due the hype of their album Manners, it was no surprise that the indoor stage was packed with ease. The band’s name aptly described the massive crowd jumping and dancing to a jaw dropping performance including the likes of Sleepyhead and Little Secrets. While Michael Angelakos failed to reach some parts of the high pitch, it was more than compensated by the amazing sing-alongs from everyone.

Remaining at the same stage, The Horrors, dressed mostly in black, came on and performed almost every track from their new album. With a sophomore album that drastically improves upon its predecessor, The Horrors have done it with considerable intelligence and style to spare at the point where goth, post-punk, and shoegaze met. I wasn't disappointed by the lack of older material like many of the fans did as I was just gettin into them recently.

Devendra Banhart only managed to earn an embarrasingly small crowd for someone of his calibre. I bet everyone was going to catch the bigger acts of Lily Allen and Calvin Harris, which was fine by me as I could get up close to the stage. The singer songwriter led his band through a joyous set of reggae, Spanish guitar and folk which includes Baby, Searhorse and 16th & Valencia Roxy Music. I Feel Just Like A Child was performed last and Devendra jumped off the stage and rubbed hands with the crowd.

Jet was better than expected at The Green Stage, they really are a decent good old fashioned rock 'n' roll band. Without any pretence they rocked the crowd with crowd favourties "Are you Gonna Be My Girl?" and "Cold Hard Bitch", as well as newer materials of "She's A Genius" and many more.

Following a break to satify growling stomach, it was back to the main stage where the D barrier was already filled so I had no chance but to watch from far. Powderfinger played a solid second headliner show, and inspired a well responsed sing along with These Days and My Happiness.

Under the amazing lazers and visual lighting, Muse were quite simply as magnificent as you could’ve hoped for. Each track was accompanied immense visual on the background. Playing through their huge back catalogue, the knowledgeable crowd lapped up everything from classic anthems like Stockholm Syndrome to the powerful Supermassive Black Hole and recent hits of Uprising and Undisclosed Desires. Nic Cester of Jet joined the band onstage for a cover of ACDC's Back in Black, which was one of the highlights of the set.Encore Knights of Cydonia gave the huge crowd a final sing-along before the band left the stage.

A big day out indeed. Truly satisfied.<s></s>

So this is Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with their distinctive style that encompasses all, we can't wait to hear the album.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat the Devil's Tattoo

On the other note, Laura Marling's second album, I Speak Because I Can is due for release on 22nd March. The track is transformed into the band's trademark folky approach, with melodramic vocals and beautiful harmonies, which is awesome in its own way. Why didn't they play this in Southbound!?

Grizzly Bear - Boy From School (Hot Chip Cover)
yoongbinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03050558393683440692noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20560875.post-85831047127440264672010-01-16T13:30:00.059+08:002010-01-16T18:51:13.550+08:00Southbound Festival @ Sir Stewart Bovell Park Busselton, 08.01.2010, 09.01.2010 & 10.01.2010

Hearing all the fuzz about Southbound, it is foolish to even think of passing this annual arts, camping and music festival. Taking the advice of the co-writer, voluntary role it is. Work a couple hours as a wristbander and get free campsite and entry to the festival in exchange, sounds like a awesome deal to me. So off I go on a bus ride 3 hours south of Perth, where I spent a magnificent weekend of some good rock and roll and campin'.

The campgrounds and base-camp were delightful and festive. There were rides, market areas, a general store, an internet cafe, atmospheric Indian dining room, a chai tent and even a indoor cinema. The Lounge was set up to provide the opportunity for upcoming acts to get exposure. While Saturday and Sunday may host the big-name headline acts, the campers who were able to make it to Friday's festivities were rewarded with stellar performances as warm -up. Straight from my wristbanding shift, I headed to the Other Stage to catch the experimental pop sound of The Boxer Rebellion, followed by Dappled Cities. Their sets were tight, and I'm starting to dig their music. Next up, Emiliana Torrini Emiliana Torrini took up the stage with her heavenly Icelandic accent, playing beautiful folk with her 5-piece band. Jamie T and the Pacemakers followed Torini, showing off most of his new materials off the Kings and Queens album. with 'Stick 'N' Stones' being particular standout. Coincidently it was his birthday as well, where the crew brought up spirit shots for a celebration toss. Rodrigo Y Gabriela may have seemed an unusual choice to clsoe the night, but they certainly put on an energetic spectacle with their fingers flying over the fret board and strumming, drumming and picking with all fingers and all parts of the hand, influenced by everything from rock, jazz and flamenco. Great start of the weekend.

Saturday saw 2 main stages (This Stage and That Stage), a smaller undercover stage (The Other Stage) and a DJ Stage (Coconut Club), hosting over 30 acts. Taking a break from work, Philapelphia Grand Jury were impressive and energetic, playing infectious pop tunes like your drunken mates over at This Stage. Staying at the same stage, The View made an impression on the punters with an intense set, performing mixed materials from both the old and new albums like "Wasted Little DJs", "5Rebbeccas" and "Same Jeans".

Completing a day's shift, I then ventured to The Other Stage for Andrew Bird. First of all, he can definitely whistle like no one you’ve ever heard. Teaming this up with the violin, both plucked and bowed, using a loop pedal to create multi-layered, intriguing sound, Bird's set was mesmerising for those in attendance. With a spinning gramaphone, a sock monkey and a three-piece band, Bird showcased tracks from latest album Noble Beast, demonstrating his incredible musicianship. At one point power was lost for the band's intruments and Bird seamlessly launched in to an acoustic version of Some Of These days with delightful harmonies from the band. Incredible indeed.

Staying at the same stage, indie folk imperfectionists "Grizzly Bear" took on the stage. One of the most hyped bands in 2009, they proved more than capable of delivering live. The rich textures of sound, coupled with eye-pleasing visual lighting, made the set highly enjoyable. Howling out their astonishing harmonies, the band performed tracks from the highly acclaimed "Veckatimest", exposing their music craft with omnichord, flute and clarinet at some points.

After grabbing a quick dinner, it was Editors heating up This Stage. Their synth-heavy and dark sound comes across particularly well, producing an engaging and tight set. Lead singer Tom Smith had that ability to mesmerise people with his movements that defines great frontmen. Munich and Smokers Outside The Hospital Door were predictably received with the loudest cheer. The band certainly injected enough anthemic qualities into the show that felt good in a festival setting.

Next up, Wolfmother attracted a huge crowd with their festival-perfect brand of booming guitar rock. The band sounded exactly the same last time I watched them. Andrew Stockdale's solos and slides catapulted the crowd from a good time to a rock frenzy, jamming up the old favourites of "The Joker and The Thief", "Dimension" and "Woman" as well as new materials from the latest album "Cosmic Egg".

Most of the crowd kept its place at This Stage for Moby, but I headed off to That Stage to catch the cosmic rockers Midnight Juggernauts. It was colour lasers and fog machines aplenty as the band performed electronic numbers of Into The Galaxy and Tombstone, as well as new materials for the upcoming album. A great set to cap off the evening.

Sunday's merriment started in the form of Aussie-produced music, with Sugar Army, Lisa Mitchell and Tame Impala hitting up This Stage. The latter took the main stage opportunity to show off heaps of impressive stoner rock tunes, with "Half Glass of Wine" and "Remember Me" being particular highlights. Kaki King treated all to a performance of acoustic guitar at That Stage, showing off precision throught her words and music.

Due to a late evening shift, I was only able to catch The Temper Trap from a distance at This Stage. The band drew a large crowd due to the success of their debut album "Conditions". Unsurprisingly "Sweet Disposition" was received with the most opened arms. I definitely hope to catch them again without having to work in the near future.

After dinner, it was Datarock doing their thing with a full live band at That Stage, with Fa Fa Fa and Give It Up garnering the most noise. Their red band uniforms, coupled with the stage lighting was indeed some pleasant visual effects.

As the sun started to set, it was finally time for the main headliner everyone has been waiting for. The crowd swelled to near capacity to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The band hit up the stage in front of a giant eyeball, and as soon as the unmistakeable frame of Karen O appeared in a, er let's just say unique outfit, rapturous applause and cheers can be heard. Justifying their headliner spot, they were amazingly tight throughout the whole set, running between the electronic numbers from it's Blitz to the garage post-punk and more down tempo melodies of Fever To Tell and Show Your Bones. Confetti cannons, frenzied run, jump, dance and pose of O and even two giant eyeballs floating it the crowd, the night couldn't be ended better.

Southbound was defnitely a spectacular music event that I will long remember, and I certainly hope this will not be my last.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sheena Is A Punk Rocker (The Ramones Cover)
Editors - No Sound But The Wind

yoongbinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03050558393683440692noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20560875.post-46958522170106752702009-12-25T10:02:00.006+08:002009-12-26T18:02:49.612+08:00Sondre Lerche Covers Animal Collective

I should have seen this coming after Sondre Lerche tweeted 'Bluish' is the best song of 2009. Sky and My Girls; the ever infectious single off their latest album Merriweather Post Pavilion. Performing before a painted background of a possessed mermaid-child, Animal Collective arrive in all their psychedlic genre-bending glory, filling the packed room with swirling sounds and echoed vocals.

Their set was more instrumental than vocal, with most of the time Avery tare, Panda Bear and Geologist pushing buttons of synths and loops. There are a number of unfamiliar tracks taken from the latest Fall Be Kind EP, which sadly seemed like they were draining the interest out of the crowd, noticable by the obvious increase in chatting and trips to the bar.

The encore consisted of two songs, their last song Brother Sport the latest release off the new album, leaving everything on a positive note. The crowd at Capitol that day wasn’t the usual dumb blondes or fluoresecent disco kids. Glittered outfit, leather, eccentric bow ties, thick framed glasses, bold rouge lipstick and eye-liner was the attire on show – a scene that the headliner would definitely be proud of.

We were treated to the spetacle of Wolf straight awat as there wasn't any opening act. Dressed in tight black pants, a black feather jacket accompanied by a black leather belt that attached around his neck and lastly a leather head-band, Wolf kicked off the set with Kriegspiel. The first three tracks of the aforementioned, "Oblivion" and "Blue Bells" allowed Wolf to display his multi-talents on guitar, piano and violin. His vocal flexibility was also on display with his soaring highs and haunting lows.

Naturally the set was dominated by tracks from Wolf's latest album "The Bachelor". As the intro of Damaris echoed throughout the venue and the euphoric exhibition of violin rhythms took over, Wolf removed his feather jacket and the whistles and cheers were drowned out, made for an absolutely magic experience as it coupled with the beauty of the song, the atmospheric stage lights, and the glittered crowd.

The crowd remained well-behaved during intermission, waiting patiently as Wolf went backstage for costume change. He then returned to the stage in a long black Dementor gown., and then finally revealing a black and white vertical striped jacket with external shoulder pads. Very Patrick Wolf indeed. There was a welcome collection of older tracks as well such as "Wind In The Wires", "Libertine" and "Tristan".

There was several hillarious moment as the mood was uplifted by Wolf. To make it short, here are my top 30 tracks of year 2009. Amazing.

Lisztomania - Phoenix
The frantic two-note intro of "Lisztomania”, coupled with its hypnotic drum beat, Thomas Mars' smooth vocals and punchy electric guitars, grabbed me straight from first listen. The rapid-fire guitar beat sounds like it's being played out of a vintage amps, coupled with the catchy chorus of "Oh mama I want to go surfing / Oh mama I don't care about nothing", it's as fun as a trip to the beach. Another great aussie product.

Cold Dust Girl - Hey Champ
An amazing mix of electro dancepop, Cold Dust Girl is a pretty genuine sounding, likable synth-filled track. This track is all about slow-build arrangement. It starts off with a spoken narrative of eating disorder, with slow strings dominating, and just as you’re about to make assumptions it goes into the an explosion of noise. The song keeps building and growing, creating a really powerful atmosphere. It should really create excitement for the band's upcoming album.

The Reeling - Passion Pit
“The Reeling” is already the overplayed anthem on dancefloors across the country. Most tracks are about surfing, friends, love, and wholesome summer partying. Lead single "Let's Go Surfing" is a perfect example of The Drums' style. Awsome stuff.

Hot Chip - Take It In
yoongbinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03050558393683440692noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20560875.post-38487218679202995862009-11-02T17:31:00.005+08:002009-11-03T22:05:55.941+08:00Metronomy's 'Like A Version'

Triple J's 'Like A Version' is probably the Australian version of Live Lounge. From the first two tracks '11th Dimension' and 'River Of Brakelights' that were previewed prior to the release, we already knew it would have some electronic elements in Julian Casablancas' solo debut, there was also the country-tinged 'Ludlow St.' with a banjo solo and the electronic folky 'Tourist'. Nevertheless with Casablancas' distinct vocal, we still could hear a hint of The Strokes in the tracks. Casablancas never dissappoint, this is the album all The Strokes' fans must lay their hands on. This is rad.

Julian Casablancas - Ludlow St.
Julian Casablancas - Tourist
yoongbinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03050558393683440692noreply@blogger.com7
