Isn't it amazing what you can do with a camera and computer nowadays? You can shoot a video, post it in the World Wide Web, and have a few hundred thousand people access it within the end of the day. Many people seem to share this sentiment and have taken it upon themselves to shoot and star with their pet in one of those dog training videos. One asks oneself, with all these wannabe producers, how do you weed out the average from the best?

Among the things you look for, the very basic is for the video to be watchable. You cannot discount the sound and visual qualities that make up the video. Other than that, it must possess focus and organization. This will give the video the all important point of view that must be successfully communicated to the viewers. Topics that do not tie in to the title presented should be avoided at all costs.

Who is the face of the video? We have seen celebrities endorse products that sell because of the sheer force of their star power. For things that require a specific field of expertise though, credibility is the number one qualification. In this case, certified trainers usually lend their face and personality to the dog training videos. People want to get expert opinion and insider tips from those who would know best. Joe Smith may be a cool, successful pet owner who trains; but without the weight of authenticity a professional career gives, it won't be as well-received and trusted.

A successful dog training DVD being sold in the market usually have a good deal attached to it. A $20 instructional video will be less likely purchased than a $40 DVD, with a book (valued at $xx) and a starter kit (valued at $xx) thrown in for 'free' during a certain period of time. Of course, this will not guarantee the quality of the core product itself. However, the more value given to customers, the better the calculable appreciation the sellers are probably going to get.

Good products are marketed well. Sure there is this wonderful canine instructional video out, but if nobody knows about it who will buy it? Endorsements and recommendations from industry experts like vets, national animal organizations and certified colleagues will create a huge buzz within certain circles that will ripple out into public consciousness. Besides that, co-branding and tie-ups with strategic companies are great corporate strategies that get some awareness on a really good product.

In connection to the previous paragraph, marketing should be properly transitioned to well-planned distribution channels. Reliable and reputable specialty dog sites that have stocks of the video for selling implies that it is a superb product.

And of course, the most faithful index of a great dog training video is the overwhelming response it gets from dog owners. People love a good deal and will tell their friends all about it. Anyone can take a video; but it takes special care and sincere efforts in creating one made for other owners' needs in mind. If you ever come across one that is often sold out and talked about a lot, buy it now- it is money well spent.

Developed and originally made popular in Australia, the Silky Terrier is one of the small dogs breed that are dominating the hearts of the toy-dog-loving fanciers of the world. In the US, this little dog is called the Silky Terrier. In Australia and other parts of the world, it is called the Australian Silky Terrier or the Sidney Terrier.

This Australian breed is highly praised for being affectionate, highly intelligent, brave and alert. Although small, this breed does not conform to the idea that it is only a placid lapdog. The Silky Terrier is bursting with energy and actually makes a good watchdog.

The Silky Terrier is a very enthusiastic dog and you can usually spot it doing what it loves most: digging. This breed is a curious creature and has a knack for learning new things. It loves to play and run around a small area and it is always in a happy disposition.

Training for this breed is also very interesting because it loves to have an intelligent and straightforward lesson from the master. It is highly trainable, quick to learn and very eager to follow the master's commands. If you choose to dwell in an apartment, this dog will make a good pet since it is only active indoors and needs only daily walks for a few minutes.

Gifted with a well-boned body, the adorable Silky Terrier stands moderately low with only 9 to 10 inches of height to boot. Its ears animatedly stand erect and v-shaped while its tail is often docked. The nose is black and the eyes are round, dark and suggest an intense expression.

Their bodies are draped with 5 to 6 inches of fine, shiny and smooth long hair. The hair is center-parted at the back, draping down but does not reach the floor and they have no undercoat and sheds very little. They often come in colors of blue and fire red, or blue with tan patterns; and that all Silky Terries are born black.

To keep the Silky's hair at its best, regular grooming is needed such as daily brushing or combing and regular baths. Its coat should also be trimmed regularly in order to keep it healthy and neat. Most Silky Terriers have hair on top of their heads that covers the eyes so it is best to tie this in a topknot.

The Silky Terrier is a combination of other terrier breeds such as the Skye, Cairn, Australian Terrier and Yorkshire Terrier. This breed reached North America through returning US servicemen who served in Australia during World War II. In 1959, the AKC officially recognized the Silky Terrier as a breed and in 1962, the first standard for this breed was established.

by Ian Brown

The fastest, easiest, most effective approach is to recreate the undesired situation in a controlled setting, and correctly use sound distractions with praise to erase the misbehavior. Dogs can learn or unlearn almost anything in four properly conducted repetitions.

Taken to it's extreme, these four repetitions should be performed in four different places, or with different people, dogs, or whatever the "props" involved may be. Understanding how dogs think, learn, and process information is a stretch of the imagination for most of us. It is obvious that they know more about psychology than we do.

They think, have a sense of humor, communicate, tease, lie, steal, etc. just like any one else. But, they don't think human. Dogs are limited to thinking like dogs. It's your responsibility to think things out from their perspective and try to use good judgement.

Be consistent. Dogs get confused if you're not consistent. Now that you are getting familiar with teaching a command through conditioned reflex, you can use similar techniques to stop or break any behavior whatsoever.

Using a set of cans, or any other source of sound, so long as it is brief, and so long as it can be presented from different directions on each consecutive instance, are all that you need to do to break any behavior. Simply create the sound, and follow through with praise! It's that simple. Any behavior can be stopped or broken, simply by creating a sound, and praising immediately. The secret is, to allow the undesired behavior to begin again, and simply present the sound from another direction, and follow through with praise. Of course you have to understand how your dog thinks and learns in order to successfully achieve this.

What you do is create the sound every time bad behavior starts and follow that with praise. You will have to so this several times in order to change his conditioning. It takes persistence.

Of course, you may continue correcting your dog forever, as most trainers do. We do not understand why a trained dog needs correction. Seems that if he were trained, that would be the end of it. That would imply that if a trained dog makes a mistake, that this mistake is probably not an accident, but rather, a challenge to your authority.

You will soon come to enjoy this process because it really works well and you can take satisfaction from knowing how to change behavior. Do bear in mind that this is changing existing behavior, not teaching new behavior.

Variety is the spice of life and there is plenty of variety available when it comes to part Siamese breeds.
One of the most beautiful and among the easier species of parrot to keep is the African Grey Parrot. Originating from central Africa, they are highly intelligent and known for their exceptional talking and cognitive ability. African Greys are capable of developing a large vocabulary and may be able to communicate well with their owners.

The African Grey Parrot comes in mainly 2 subspecies. The main difference between the Congo and Timneh subspecies is their size and color. Normally both the Congo and Timneh African Grey parrots are considered to be medium in size. The Timneh Gray Parrot is known to be smaller in size, but fuller in feather thickness. Their body feather color ranges from medium to an almost dark charcoal gray, and their tail feathers are usually dark maroon red. The Congo Grey Parrot is usually larger in length and heavier in weight, but with thinner feathers. Lighter gray feathers and a bright red tail, further differentiate the Congo from the Timneh. And the final main difference between the two subspecies is the color of their beak, also known as the mandible. The top of the Timneh Gray Parrot's mandible is a bone or cream color, while the Congo Gray Parrot's mandible is almost all black.

When considering the purchase of an African Grey Parrot as a pet, it is important to be aware of its background. Knowing whether it comes from the wild or comes from a breeder is essential. The African Grey Parrot will be easier to train and handle if purchased from a reputable breeder that has integrated hand feeding or hand rearing. Hand rearing is the feeding the baby African Grey Parrot from birth to 10-12 weeks of age while handling them. This will ensure that the African Grey bonds with their human owners and are completely tame. This will give the parrot an easy start to mimic and speech training.

These parrots also need an owner who can make a long term commitment to them. African Greys have a long lifespan and can live up to 60 years. Because of their high intelligence, African Greys require an owner that is experienced and who can understand their needs. They can easily become bored so, a stimulating and interactive environment is a must. Without their intellectual needs met African Greys might turn their boredom into behavioral problems like feather picking. Since they are such sensitive birds they can also behavioral problems. It's possible that even a small change in their daily routine or in their surroundings can lead an African Grey parrot to become cranky or show signs of self mutilation. Although they are typically well behaved and a great pet these birds do not come without a few challenges. African Greys that are undisciplined can get into trouble. They might chew wires or bite. They pick up behaviors very quickly so if you inadvertently reinforce bad habits in your African Grey, you can also easily teach them good ones.

African Grey parrots are full of personality and human like qualities. Those who are lucky enough to own one are able to see intelligence not equaled in many other animals.

The Brittany Spaniel is of Brittany France origins and is recognized as one of the world's supreme gun dogs. It first appeared in the 19th century and was officially recognized in 1938. Originally used as a working dog, the Brittany Spaniel of today is short of many tasks but is still an avid hunter at heart.

The Brittany Spaniel possesses an athletic, well- rounded and solidly built body. This kind of build is very suitable for its active lifestyle for it is neither too light nor too heavy for its size. This breed has a rounded skull and almond shaped eyes that project a gaze of intelligence, vigor and curiosity.

Its legs are long and lean, perfect for perpetually running and chasing around the acreage of its surroundings. When it walks, it is always in a manner of flexible, long and free strides. As often seen, the Brittany Spaniel always has a short tail and this may sometimes come naturally or docked since Brittanies born with long tails undergo docking.

The two recognized varieties of the Brittany Spaniel are the French Brittany Spaniel and the American Brittany. The latter only accepts dogs with orange, white or liver markings while other combinations outside of these are considered disqualifications. The French variety, however, accepts all kinds of colors, even black.

The term spaniel for this breed has been the topic of many arguments because some experts say that this breed is actually of the pointer or setter type. However, the Brittany Spaniel looks like a spaniel although it does not flush out games just like any other spaniel breed would do. In the US, this breed is only called the American Brittany because the term spaniel has been fervently discouraged.

The Brittany is an excellent dog for hunting, highly trainable, sensitive and sweet. It is very active and mostly wants to run sprightly and vigorously in the open. Because of this, it is always best to allow this pet to be spirited in a wide fenced area everyday, at one time with a leash and the other without.

There are some instances that a Brittany is obnoxiously wild and irrepressible but this can only be blamed to the owner's improper training and raising of the breed. Brittanies that arent well-exposed tend to become shy and fearful of strangers. But if they are well socialized and well treated, they grow up smart, sociable and sweet.

Brittanies, in order to have a well-guided disposition, needs to receive an ample amount of attention and love from the master lest they become destructive and ill-behaved. They are best fitted in a wide-spaced house, a wide yard and a well-conditioned and damp surrounding. Of all the breeds in the dog sporting world, the Brittany is the only one with the highest number of winnings in the American dual championships.
