Dennis Hopper gets Holywood star

Bedridden Dennis Hopper, 73, who suffers prostate cancer (is said to be in the last phase of terminal cancer) was given his own star on the Hollywood Boulevard Friday.

Hopper said "Everyone here today that I've invited and obviously some that I haven't invited have enriched my life tremendously." "They have shown me a world that I would never have seen being a farm boy from Dodge City, Kansas, and learning things I would never have learned."

The ceremony was taken outside the Egyptian Theatre for his 50-year career stretching back to "Rebel Without a Cause" in which he starred with James Dean in 1995.

"Easy Rider" with Peter Fonda in 1969.

"Apocalypse Now" - the Vietnam war movie in 1979.

"Blue Velvet' in 1986.

Hopper said "Everything I've learned in my life I learned from you and the wonderful world that I traveled and saw....well, I got it all from you. This has been my home and my school." "And I love all of you. I just want to thank you. This means so much to me, and thank you very much, everyone."

After 14 years of marriage with wife Victoria, Hopper is divorcing against his wife, but he is too weak to be questioned by his wife's attorney in the divorce settlement.

Caused by his illness, hopper is said to weighs only 45kg, he was wearing a bandage around his head and right hand as he was injured in a run-in paparazzi, while taking part in the ceremony.

Hamilton is Caught for Driving Imprudent in Melbourne

The former world champion Lewis Hamilton the British F1 driver apologised on Saturday for driving recklessly after practicing for Australian Grand Pix.

Hamilton was in his McLaren Mercedes ace was pulled over by a police patrol outside the busy street of Melbourne track.

Police said Hamilton's car had "accelerated heavily and lost traction to the rear wheels" in making a turn and had been impounded until Monday.

The 25 years Hamilton admitted the incident and apologised in a statement released through his McLaren team.

In his statement, Hamilton said: "This evening I was driving in an over-exuberant manner and, as a result, was stopped by the police,"

"What I did was silly, and I want to apologised for it."

Throughout the whole incident, police said Hamilton was very cooperative, and is expected to be charged for improper use of motor vehicle.

It was another embarrassing incident for Hamilton for Sunday's Australian Grand Pix, after being suspended his regular driving licence for a month in 2007 for speeding on motorway in France.

Hamilton will be bidding for pole on the Australian race grid in qualifying later Saturday.

It was the gasp heard around the world.

Bjork showed up for the 73rd annual Academy Awards (2001), where she was meant to perform, wearing a swan.

We could write a diatribe on a shallow world that would bother itself with something as small as an ugly dress...but this was some serious ugly. The depth of which validates any criticism it incites.

Designed by Marjan Pejoski, the ensemble was made to look like an entire swan hung on its wearer, chicken-rice-shop-window style.

It was memorable though, and prevented the Icelandic singer from going the way of Enya and Yanni, to the back of our minds.

Field is often misquoted as saying, "You like me, you really like me!" Comedians often use that line in Oscar spoofs to take the mick out of actors (love-starved in childhood) who vie after accolades and awards.

She actually ended her acceptance speech as follows:
"I haven't had an orthodox career, and I've wanted more than anything to have your respect. The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!"

In a trying industry where few ever break the mould, it was nice to see Field come into her own. It was the moment when Tinseltown stopped laughing at the "unorthodox" and brilliant actress.

The Academy Awards are by far the stiffest ceremony of the award season. Yet somehow we knew that one day hip hop would rule even that roost.

At the 78th annual Academy Awards (2006), Three 6 Mafia -- a hip hop group too hardcore for the Grammys -- played the Oscar stage. The group later caused a coup, winning Best Original Song for "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp", from the film "Hustle & Flow"

We think they deserved it and if nothing else it was worth seeing the look of shock on all those emaciated faces.

Dressed up as a busted Marilyn Monroe, Madge made things uncomfortable for all those who attended the 63rd annual Academy Awards (1991). She performed "Sooner or Later", the nominated song from "Dick Tracy", in full Marilyn garb with thrusts and moves that would blush even Dita Von Teese.

It was the moment when Ms. Madonna Louise Ciccone laid claim to her place in the film industry. That of the flop that just wouldn't stop.

Top 4 - Halle Berry's wins Best Actress

Before Angela Bassett's horrible slur, before the messy divorce with the sex-addicted Eric Benet, before...Catwoman, there was that shining moment of Oscar glory when Halle Berry became the first African-American woman to win an Academy Award for a leading role.

Having played Dorothy Dandridge, the first African-American to receive a nomination in that category, Halle's win was particularly poignant and memorable.

Berry's winning role in "Monsters Ball" had originally been offered to Angela Bassett, who turned it down. When asked about it later, Bassett (whom Berry honoured in her acceptance speech) exclaimed, "I wasn't going to be a prostitute on film."

It's a pity the cat-growl can't be spelled out in the Latin alphabet.

While the film boasted some graphic scenes of a sexual nature, it bears saying that Berry's character in the film, wasn't a prostitute.

It also bears saying that Bassett hasn't had a decent role since. Good luck getting your groove back!

When Sophia Loren opened the envelope for Best Foreign Language Film at the 71st annual Academy Awards (1999), her face lit up as she exclaimed "Roberto!"

Her countryman, Roberto Benigni, proceeded to crowd surf the largely seated audience at the Shrine Auditorium.

When he tried it again after winning Best Actor in a Leading Role, the novelty factor kind of wore off.

Benigni won both Oscars for "La Vita è Bella" or "Life Is Beautiful", a film he wrote and directed based on his father's experiences at a Nazi concentration camp during the Second World War.

Back in '98 Hollywood and most of the world had fallen in love with Benigni's film. His ecstatic reaction to both wins was moving and should be immortalized as a bonus feature on the film's DVD.

At the 46th annual Academy Awards (1974), just as David Niven was about to introduce Elizabeth Taylor, a naked man ran across the stage holding up two fingers for peace.

The streaker, a guy by the name of Robert Opel, was a photographer and art gallery owner. He allegedly had the help of the show's producer Jack Haley Jr. in order to pull the stunt off.

Niven didn't miss a beat, quipping, "Well ladies and gentlemen, that was almost bound to happen! But isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?"

Opel had opened a nude male art gallery the year before. This little stunt earned him a great deal of exposure. But security was locked down forever thereafter at the Academy Awards ceremonies.

It is a tradition at every Oscar ceremony that the previous year's Best Actress present the award for Best Actor.

The exchange is usually quite cordial but at the 75th annual Academy Awards (2003), Adrien Brody did what no winner ever dared do before him.

Brody made his way onto the stage, dipped and then french-kissed his presenter Halle Berry.

It was a play even Berry couldn't fault.

Brody won that year for his leading role in Roman Polanski's "The Pianist". The actor had researched his part by living on the street for a year. He lost a considerable amount of weight and went to great lengths to garner and keep the role, being a relatively unknown actor at the time.

Many unknowns turn into one hit wonders after winning an Oscar. This stolen kiss however proved Brody had the nerve and chops to cut it in Tinseltown.

Last year, Mayday's campus concerts in Taiwan proved to be a good promotional effort when the album sales topped the 2008 album charts. Jolin Tsai, who will be releasing her new album soon, is said to be following this success formula. Netizens have expressed concerns with Tsai doing campus concerts; on the other hand, Warner Music said they have yet to make plans for this.

Sunshine boy Nathaniel Ho (affectionately know as Nat to his fans) is afraid of Valentines' Day! Nat admits that he feels envious on seeing loving couples on the street during Valentines' Day.

"I'm always vexed whenever Valentine's Day is around the corner. I've been single for a very long time; therefore the festival is like the start of a nightmare for me. You see couples everywhere! I get a little jealous," admits 25-year-old Nat who is currently single.

Nat feels he is a romancer based on the fact that he was a Literature student back in Junior College, but feels that romance need not to be luxurious; as long as one is attentive, simplicity can bring romance too.

"I feel that being romantic is about stepping out of your boundaries, go all the way out to make your special someone happy," he explains.

Two years in the entertainment industry, Nat has made some best friends from the same circle; among them is Mediacorp Princess Felicia Chin.

"We will go out for dinner after we end work. We're almost of the same age, so we get along very well," says Nat.

There have also been rumors about them around; but Nat is not bothered by them.

"Rumors are very common in this industry. Anyway they are just rumors, so why be bothered?"

Nat denies that they are in a "special relationship" but reveals that "as a close friend, I would watch out for her." He claims to be a loyal friend who would go all out for his friends and treats them with extra care and protection.

Other than Felicia, Nat is also very close with Dawn Yeoh and Elvin Ng. Nat admits that "best friends will always remain as best friends" and as of now, there is not a possibly for him to develop a relationship with either of the girls.

To find a few close friends in this seemingly glorious yet complicated industry is like "an escape from reality" and "back to childhood".

In his opinion, Valentine's Day is not solely dedicated to couples, but also a day worth celebrating with family members and best friends.

"Loving a person is not like shopping, fate is very important!" Nat says.

Gigi Lai throws dinner to celebrate her marriage

Gigi Lai announced her retirement from showbiz last year and was married to Hong Kong businessman, 52-year-old Patrick Ma, just before Chinese New Year this year in Australia. On their return from honeymoon in Europe, the newly wed threw a nuptial dinner in Hong Kong for Lai's family and guests. In her speech on the dinner, she said she is happy to have found a reliable lifetime partner.

Held at the five-star Peninsular Hotel, the dinner was specially thrown for families and friends. TVB's management Virginia Lok and celebrities Catherine Tsang and Sheren Tang were their only guests from showbiz.

Before dinner began, Ma's spokesperson expressed gratitude on behalf of the couple by distributing ang baos of more than hundred dollars to each media present. Halfway through the dinner, Lok came out of the banquet hall to spoke to the media. She described the dinner to be a cocktail party and Lai's brother, who suffered major injuries from an accident years back, was very happy on watching the couple's photo montage which tracked their growth. Lok also said she is touched to see Lai in bliss.

According to reports, Lai, in her wedding gown, said her vows with her husband on the dinner. She said, "I am thankful to have found someone who loves me. I thank the media for your concern. Please be assured that my husband loves me very much and will take good care of me. I am very happy to have found someone with whom I can share my life."

Lok also said that Lai and husband will pick some pretty wedding photos for media's publication later.

A couple treated open air diners to a 15-minute naked parade in Singapore, triggering both embarrassment and applause for a scene almost unheard of in the conservative city-state.

Pub manager Terence Chia told the Straits Times newspaper he saw the couple taking off their clothes on Saturday night at a staircase in a block of flats in Holland Village, known for its popular nightspots.

"Then, clothes in hand, they coolly walked in their flip-flops towards the market," he said, adding when the couple did a U-turn a sea of spectators was ready and poised with cameras."There were more than 200 people and everyone was taking pictures," the newspaper on Wednesday quoted Chia as saying. "Even women were busy clicking and people were cheering, whistling and applauding like crazy."

Police said the couple, a Caucasian man and an ethnic Chinese woman in their 20s, had been arrested and released on bail. If convicted under Singapore law, they could face a fine of maximum fine of S$2000 (931 pounds), up to 3 months in jail, or both.

Protests are rare in Singapore and only made legal last year in a designated area called "Speakers' Corner," modelled on London's Hyde Park.

"They looked really comfortable walking down the street, which led to many curious stares," wrote blogger Leonard Tan. "Singapore is getting more and more exciting."

A couple (a Caucasian man and a Singaporean woman) strolling around Holland vilage totally nude were arrested more then three weeks ago, no charges had been pressed against them yet.

Investigations are still going on why the couple strolling nude on the street.

The naked pair stunned drinkers and diners when they strolled hand—in—hand up and down Lorong Mambong at 11pm on January 24.

They were nabbed one hour later near North Buona Vista Road but were released on bail afterwards.

The incident sparked off a flurry of postings online and even became inspiration for a new Ikea advertisement.

Under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act, anyone who appears nude in a public place can be fined up to S$2,000 or jailed up to three months, or both.

Christopher Lee Talks About His Father's Sudden Death

Father of MediaCorp actor Christopher Lee died in Malacca of heart attack on Feb 10. He was 68 years old. Chris was back in Malacca for the Chinese New Year when it happened; however, his wife-to-be, Fann Wong, was busy with filming in Singapore and unable to get to Malacca. In a phone interview with Xin.sg from Malacca, Chris was clearly choked with sobs as he spoke of his father's sudden death.

Chris said he had returned to Malacca on the third day of Chinese New Year for reunion dinner with his family and that was an unforgettable night for him. "Everyone was very happy that day. Perhaps we were overjoyed and he forgot to watch his diet," Chris said.

His father was admitted to the hospital at midnight on the fourth day of Chinese New Year with respiratory problems resulting from fluid in the lungs. He said his father had been admitted twice previously for the same condition and did not expect this to take his life.

Chris remembers his father to be an independent and forgiving person whom he looks up to.

While his fiancée, Fann, had applied for leave to attend his father's wake, Chris revealed to have dissuaded her from doing so.

"She can definitely travel and get to Malacca by 11pm that night, but after visiting, she has to rush back to Singapore because she has to start work again at 9am the next morning. I am worried about her being on the road in the middle of the night, so I told her not to come," Chris said. Though Fann is unable to attend her future father-in-law's wake, her parents made the trip on her behalf.

When asked about their wedding which was supposed to take place in September, Chris expressed regret that his father could not witness his eldest son's marriage. Chris said he will only think about his wedding matters after his father's funeral.

JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - - More than 100 international beauties were primping and preening in the final anxious moments before the Miss World pageant Saturday, hosted by South Africa for an expected one billion-strong TV audience.

South African and Jamaican designers have created racks of dresses for the women, aged 17 to 25, who have spent a gruelling month in galas, rehearsals and even a safari on the tip of the African continent.

Contestants from the eight countries in the FIFA Confederations Cup, which takes place in South Africa in June as a warm-up for the 2010 World Cup, also joined in the draw for their teams.
