Buying guide: Save money buying coupon inserts on Ebay vs. locally

Save money on purchasing newspaper coupon inserts?
It happens to be those Sundays where those national couponista's seeking their weekly digest of sales, coupons, BOGO's and more. However, we all like to save a few dollars and perhaps a little of our time to. Why not change the way you think about purchasing coupon inserts by purchasing them online at ease rather than in stores where you have all that extra massive new paper bulk to sort through?

Today, I've took this plunge into a new normal.
I'm fed up with filling up our recycle container or bags with a plethora of bulky newspapers that only get skimmed through so we can selfishly pull out the coupons or sales section. I want to save time, money, and make this process that much more simplified. This is my ultimate goal in anything I do. To try to get my Daily Method of Operations down to a fluid productive science. With a family of four boys and the total of 6, this is something we need to do in order to keep our costs even more down. That way I can focus more on work or other more important tasks at hand. It can be very tasking and time counter productive when seeking out coupons let alone which stores has the best deals to score. Why not find ways to simplify this process so that it becomes second nature and less of a hassle? Once you figure out this method to the madness, it all gets quite simpler from there on out.

Here is a few steps to go about this new lifestyle couponing choice:

Check out Ebay. Find a consistent reputable seller with great responsible ratings to consistently buy inserts from weekly.
Determine the budget per insert you'd wish to pay. For example, most newspapers are $2 each which gives between 1-3 different inserts each paper. Most sellers are offering a lot of minimum 5 qty inserts in their lot. Key things to determine and think about before purchasing: What fits your ideal budget each week for certain coupon inserts? Are there lots of coupons or just a little you're interested in? Is it really worth it for me to spend $6 total on 5 inserts for this week, or is it lacking except for a few coupons and perhaps I should wait for the cost of that insert to go down within 1-2 weeks from that seller, seek out $4 budget instead, or pass on it altogether?
What type of products do you consistently purchase on a regular basis? Search for them on Ebay. Changes are you'll find the products you buy on a regular basis some times bundled within a lot of 20 coupons from anywhere between $1.49-$5 + which can mean if 20 coupons at $1 off of 1 product, it saves you the total of $20. However, if it costs you $2-5 just to get that deal, why not? If you buy this product on a regular basis, why not purchase bulk coupons to cut costs back a bit further [IMPORTANT: check expiration dates for coupons to!] and chances are you might be able to double or triple it between extra store coupons and/or sales! I've scored So Delicious Coconut milk from doing this method buy purchasing 20 coupons for $2.49, and combined with sales + coupons each coconut milk container equaled $0.69 each! That was off of $4.99 retail price. Even paying the $2.49 for 20 coupons equaled extreme valuable savings and saved me time buy stocking up on a product I would of otherwise paid $4.99 each for. Case in point it cost me $16.29 after coupon costs + find costs of 20 sixty nine cents So Delicious Coconut milk. It would otherwise cost me $99.80 equally the savings total of $83.51 just by spending a few minutes out of your day to determine what is a regular product you purchase and if the coupons are valuable enough with the costs involved.
Downfall? Scoring additional coupons for local stores can some times happen. However, if you visit the front area of the local stores they typically have the same inserts up in a pile for you to grab with the same coupons [only exception is Albertsons $1 doublers coupons] otherwise checking online to determine the local store sales is the same as the print ads only you don't need to waste paper resources to 'see' that. Most stores have card coupons you can add to your rewards card by going online..most people don't even think about that one! By checking out the weekly sales you can also double your coupons within the sales and purchase additional coupons to score even better benefits from making this a regular basis in your deal scouting. For example: I've found some deodorant deals in the past that offered $1 off via rewards card during check out it'd take off that $1 at register. I found it was on sale for $2.99 which means that brings it down to $1.99. However, I found a $1.00 off coupon which ended up bringing down the deal to $.99 with Albertsons doubler coupons I ended up making $0.01 towards my next purchase with scouting out the deals this way. It goes right to the source with out all the extra head aches.
Always print out coupons, anyways. You never know when this extra deals could add up in addition to store coupons you might find on Ebay. To make it a smudge more worth it you can find store gift cards at a lower price. Check the balance and dispute if it's not right to get money back immediately. But this can also save you $2-10 extra from $25-50 you might purchase in a gift card form. Combine that savings with coupons then you save even extra! I've done this with Barnes and Nobles gift cards which comes in handy for purchasing textbooks for college.
The simple steps to remember all this [repetition makes it a quick habit]: 1) Check store ads for current sales at your favorite stores you always visit on regular basis. Add their coupons to rewards card, if available. Print their online store coupons, if available. Note: the sales period: start and end dates to make sure coupons will arrive in time if ordered via Ebay. 2) Check Ebay for certain Sunday inserts to your liking and budget. Give them 2-5 days to arrive. If they don't 7 days later, dispute the charge immediately [if they don't respond within 7 days it automatically goes to have Ebay review and you get your refund..not too painful of a process just be aware of when you get it and if you don't.] 3) Print off any available print Coupons from all coupon sites and all additional coupon rewards sites. 4) Organize, write a list of deals from: regular, sale, coupon price, and final price. That way you can track the info at the store not just by memory or print add. But you have your own info written out to organize your trip. Organize coupons in the group that fit your method to the madness. Some organize them by type of products others do ABC's. I've found it makes it less of a hassle to do it by isle that way when you're in it you can have brand coupons to compare deals with. You don't want to later go "ah man..this other brand was in here for a better price with this coupon plus sale!" but of course, to each their own method to the madness!
Why not use coupons: They're paper money to spend! Why not put that money back into your own pockets? Think outside the box is my motto in any aspect of life. Use Groupons, Plum district, and all those other lovely savings websites to save even further on things you might do or like to do on a regular basis! This has fit our family budget and allowed us to attend college with out the need of a loan, and pay off all of our credit card debt. When I see an organized section of cleaners I can sigh of relief that we don't have to fall back into that habit of saying "*sigh* which credit card are we going to put this on today?" We no longer have the sweats of wondering if our card or credit card will go through. It's such less stress! We can focus on more by buying more at an impressive price. Additionally, Billionaires admit to still Coupon despite their financial strengths in life. Why not? Millionaires, however, say that they don't do it as much as they'd like to. I want to think like a Billionaire as it's all about perspective is to which direction in life you go. Even if one day not fiscally, I'd rather earn it in less stress and more money to spend on other things than spending it out more than what's really needed. We've earned that by couponing and scouting out great deals. Take these few simple steps to find your own fiscal stress relief!

A prime example of what lifestyle changes create is having a surplus of those items that you use on an extremely regular basis, for pretty much penny prices [that is the ultimate goal!] for what you'd normally pay to purchase those new $100 jeans. Thus follows:

A prime example of simplicity for me has happened within the past month. By scoring on 3 HUGE Charmin pkgs of 24 rolls of toilet paper via Staples.com website [Example of the deal: 6% e-bate back, coupon code savings $40, online holiday free shipping promo saved $12+ =$21 for 3 HUGE bags of 24pkg/rolls of toilet paper delightfully delivered to my address this month..after everything..I got 3 HUGE pkg's delivered to my address vs. what I would normally pay for not even 1! That is why I find no need to shop at Costco with membership costs..but that's another blog for another time].

I will take a picture of them later to post on here, so you can get an idea. They're those big fat bags of toilet paper that you regularly never see on sale at stores but are a great deal if you don't care about sales and just on a unit price.

THIS is what arrived to my door...3 whole separate big huge packages, 3 of them delivered for $19 [saved: $60!] after everything was completed [% Ebate refunded]:

What does something like this mean to me? I most likely just stockpiled a years supply of toilet paper for my family of 6. With the increasing prices of the cost of living, it's very important to be smart about where your money goes. As we all know right now, we never truly know where the economy might still go at this point with so many things uncertain. We've gone from the average life expectancy of employment allowing vast majority being lucky to fully retire after their delightful 25 years at their occupation. However, the average life expectancy that has left many in uncertainty is the brutal truth..those vast majority are now a rare breed to even keep their job for 25 years let alone even think about retiring early, or even on time. For those rare few, it is indeed a time for celebration. However, the brutal truth is that employment has become 2.5 years for average Americans now vs. 25 years. Combine that with the 2 years of employment to even get a house, and you've got a gambling carnival ride to take in your life even wondering if you can ever get a loan approved for that first loan by climbing the food chains.

With that said, I am one of those individuals driven to succeed. Yet, many pot holes always comes in the way. Where a company rather hire from temp agencies so they don't have to pay benefits, or they'll fire you before that 90 days is up so they won't have to pay you benefits.

This is a greatly condensed version of what is going on in America. However, what can WE as individual consumers do in order to make sure we're taken care of the best way possible? To still enjoy life, perhaps even make others wonder how you do it constantly with some seldom lavish enjoyments on a tight budget or dime?

Simple changes. Simple changes that will within time become a habit. The simpler you create your life to be, the more functional it'll become. This does not mean you go stir crazy with the dishes not being loaded or a hair out of place. This means, you pick your battles but have a routine and find a fluid way to create a simpler lifestyle.

To many, coupons do not scream simpler. I confess, it's not entirely that simple. It's highly calculated and even I make my friends or family heads spin when I tell them how the deal was drummed up. Add my ability to function around online sales, and people become really fearful of the online realm. As they say, if it looks too good to be true..it must be, right? I want to chime into this misconception and state: "no, it is not too good to be true, unless you do it right and know where to look and seek out those tools to do so!" You don't have to be a coupon hoarder or a dumpster diver to score free groceries. You can create a simpler more fluent way towards couponing that saves you not only time seeking out deals, but saves you tons of time within the stores seeking the items and redeeming the coupons [ahem, for the cashiers to!].

I will be honest, I do vary on my savings, freebies, samples, couponing...but you have to not be set in your ways and allow for flexibility in order to welcome each new obstacle that comes your way. To have a delightful but also humbly honest sense about the situation to yourself and others around you. Made a mistake? Be honest to others, and yourself. People often can see around it, specially cashiers [in their minds: "yup, hear THIS one before.."]. This will reduce stress, uncertainties, and create a better outcome for you and those who will benefit from your savings potential.

What can this couponing, savings, freebies, freebates, and more...do for you? It can create a simpler lifestyle. By finding items that are on sale now that you don't even need immediately but you do use within that year, this creates simplicity. By doing this, we have kicked the need for unexpected expenses greatly. We've traveled as a family more, and even eaten out tons more than we have before I was laid off from my occupation like vast majority of Americans were running into within the past 3 years. I keep my work skills fresh by always researching, staying on top of trends online, and using those tools to create a simpler lifestyle for my family by improving our debt to income ratio, or savings potential.

We have gone from 6 digits income household to relying upon not even half, if we're lucky. Does that mean we're 'ghetto' or 'poor' or 'low income'? Sure, we've been labeled over the years since chose to pursue this direction in our life. This is only temporary. But the lifestyle change of saving vs. spending hasn't been temporary. This has become a habit within our lives in order to create more opportunities and less stress within our lives. By knowing we don't have to use debt because unexpected expenses are pilling up on us.

What is the secret to our lifestyle of being able to be a household size of 6 people, and the main current breadwinner is attending college F/T with work very P/T? Lifestyle changes: Saving not spending, stocking up on what we NEED [not what is free with a coupon that we never use], common sense changes, having zero debt, owning our own vehicles.....the list goes on. We've decided to change our lifestyles around and aren't planning on changing this.

Sure, Summer is over. But even with Fall within a leaf falling off of a tree limb away, means lots of things turn for a change, while others are here to stay. It also means the perfect time of year to create traditional flavorful treats, drinks, and more for your kids to enjoy while at school or once they return home.

A classic Family treat is the delightfully cheerful Kool-Aid! This doesn't just stay with the sugar and water combo as the only method to partake it. Over the years we've also used it as home created Popsicles, in our own play dough, Kool-Aid Cake, and even a Kool-Aid pie. Mixed in these recipes are generally the top picked flavors off Cherry, Strawberry, and to drink as a child was my all time favorite 'Mystery' flavor and color Kool-Aid! You didn't know what you were getting until you added the water. It gave you something to look forward to during summer vacations and even into fall. How quickly did that go?

Summer was a rather abnormally busy one in our household. My husband is attending college as the kids are also out for Summer. Thankfully, right now I get to hang home with them in order to coordinate entertainment and take care of the wee ones. I also had our 4th boy in April which means Summer was by far more abnormal than it normally is. With busy busy, comes savings and more storing up for using at another time. Lots of these items we've needed for a while but don't really want to fork out that $20's for one Pyrex mixing bowl, or Pyrex storage sets [that are glass but have plastic lists] due to the costs being outrageous. The last simple Corningware we purchased with our Khols Cash a few months back and that..for just one..was $35! I would of never purchased it if I didn't have the Khols Cash to make it free. Best ways to figure out how to Coupon or save before visiting stores!

I've had a few ladies stop by me at our local Fred Meyers lately asking me how I find my coupons and how they're properly used to give or get great savings more than just $0.25 off of $10, but something that would add up to perhaps that $10 item for or close to $1..you get the point. I typically briefly tell them hints but in the back of my mind keep thinking: Write up a card to hand them so they'll also know. Why not also have them figure out the basics towards having the Manufacturers or Stores pay for their purchases, placing even greater funds back into their own pockets for the next trip to the grocery store, or vacation perhaps!

As far as my tips to pour out to others...read carefully below. I will edit this as more information comes back. But it's at least a basic Digital Coupon/Savings 101 that I use BEFORE going to the stores. I cut my time in half, and find even greater savings by planning out my trips ahead of time by researching. Sure, you can on a whim walk around the stores..but why not save your time and figure out those even better savings before you visit so you can spend that time some where else you'd rather be at? Perhaps a book store, library, a walk in the park, etc...the time possibilities is endless. Or if you're an individual solely on one income to even a family like ours [almost 6 in this household!]..this little time spent can really benefit you greatly.

Coupons: Digital & Print:
So you receive the Redplums or other coupon inserts in your mailbox. Clip EVERY coupon. This might sound funny even if there is somethings you will not need, but even if you clip them all you can drop the ones you don't need at the local store community Coupon swap box to help others encourage theirs to be dropped into the swap box as well [for example: Fred Meyers has them at one entrance..ask if you can't find it. Other stores do this, but not all of them.]. If you're starting out simple it's still best to invest into a simple folder that will help you also save your time by separating these coupons by: Toiletries, household, groceries, pets, medical/vitamins etc. Put the Coupons in the proper area's that way you don't get them confused.

The further along you go or more coupon-happy you get you might want to invest into a baseball card holder folder. That way you can keep certain sections, but also keep certain types of products or brands together: Tide or perhaps just 'detergents' and have all the brands in that area, etc. You can see them quicker this way which saves you time and increases your savings potential as well..that way you don't have remorse on missing out on 'DARN...if only I could of figured out THAT deal..' [believe me, I've had those moments as I'm placing the coupon into the recycling bin..sniff..sniff!]

Ok, so you have your print coupons from your local mailbox inserts or perhaps your newspaper? If you're trying to figure out when the next biggest inserts will happen in the Newspapers make sure to visit P&G to keep up to date on when this happens. They post their dates immediately on their website, but you can also sign up for updates, coupons, samples, and other freebies from their Group website. They own SO many brands, and often create 'brand wars' between the brands that they own which can help you in the coupon scheme of things if you outsmart them on store deals vs. their coupon deals. Some times, in the terms of coupon overages [aka: store credit or money back!]..but we'll save that for another time to discuss!

Now that you have all of your print coupons, it's also ideal to keep an eye out on Coupons you can also PRINT off of your printer. These can change on the websites day to date but also weekly, so make sure to keep an eye out for what coupons are up. Often times they will 'reset' their Coupons allowing you to print off even more of them.

..those are a few for now to get you started. I will write more reviews on how you can get benefits from purchasing coupons.com off and redeeming them via in the stores, etc. Stay tuned for that blog as well. NOTE: Always check the different websites for high value's over others [smartsource vs. coupons] as some times you can find the same coupons but for a $1 more or less. The more you get used of the websites the easier this will become to compare, but it never hurts to still print them off anyways as the expiration on one might be sooner than another and that same Manufacturer coupon might not be offered for a LONG time or years even. It's still ideal to print them if you find those deals at the stores vs. not so you can stock pile on those brands you enjoy the most.

STORE or CARD COUPONS:
Another way you can utilize savings which might not be available on these coupon websites. Keep in mind with these 'card' coupons you're unable to combine them [typically] with the print off or print coupons. They're all Manufacturer coupons but can always be combined with Store coupons [unless specified]. Just because Card Coupons are listed under a store, doesn't mean they're the stores coupons. Typically they're Manufacturers.
How do you find Card Coupons? Visit your Rewards cards store website. Log in, and look closely for an area that might say 'coupons' as you can click on certain coupons and 'add' them to your rewards cards. So even if you forgot those clip or print coupons you can use card coupons. It can be useful in preventing those 'darn' moments and still save with our remembering you added them. It's ideal to get in habit of adding them to all your cards in the beginning of the month..you never know when they might come in handy.

CELL COUPONS:
Do you own a Smartphone? Of any kind for which you can add 'apps' to? If you do, make sure to check out Cellfire.com you can sign up via the website and add the cell phone app later. It works similar to the Card Coupons, however, these work via your cell phone. It can actually make your life easier some times vs. logging into each of these separate store websites as the same coupons are on Cellfire, however, you can log online to add your rewards cards for certain stores and quicker add the coupons right off of there. All it takes to log in is your cell phone number and password.

FACEBOOK FREEBIES OR COUPONS:
Another huge potential right now via Social Networking to those who are on it, is accessing freebies, samples, giveaways, or even coupons right off of the Fan Page for select Manufacturer or brand websites. This is a HUGE resource as they know that they can easily reach you but try very hard to hook you in more than even print coupons or tv ad's can do these days. They even try harder int he digital age knowing that they have to woo you over with some level of benefits in order to enjoy the brand and not forget them! Yes, this is to your HUGE benefit.

How do you figure out who's who or what is going on? Simply by thinking of the certain brands you most enjoy, products you would love to see if there is any deals going on or even competitors to those brands as well. For example..do you like Tide, but are okay with Gain? Well, P&G owns both under their Group but love to make both of these brands 'compete' with each other. Check both websites and always print off the coupons. Typically they're available for a limited time but do not expire for a while when they're available off of there. I've found Facebook to be one of the best ways to get BOGO/FREE. In addition to this I've visited the Manufacturers website for extra coupons I can use in addition to those BOGO/FREE coupons from Facebook.

The happiest example: I have of this..well, one of MANY..is that Barbara's had BOGO/FREE which on their website they had an additional $1 off coupon to use both of these on their Cereal boxes. This gave me a savings of around $5, and I paid just over $1 for two boxes of Organic Barbara's Cereal!

"OK...so that is all I can think of that I do off on a whim. Now, what do you do with these oodles of coupons and access to coupons?"

Check out the store websites before you visit. You can click on 'view this weeks ad' to see the deals of the week and sales currently going on. Most of these store website will even let you go as far as adding certain items to a shopping list that you can print off and bring to the stores with you. What I do: I make a list of what's on sale. I list the item, price, and I sift through my Coupons to see what I can double this deal with. I place those coupons into an envelope titled the stores name on the front. I add my list and coupons into the envelope that way everything is placed together. Of course I also bring my Coupon folder in addition to that in case there are sales not in the ad, or clearance as well.

This has really helped me not only cut back my time, increase greater savings, but also enabled me to coupon more even with kids present since it's simplified. Simplify!

As you know I'm always seeking out deals. Not just deals, but either free items or the best deals available. If the deals are not close enough to my liking I never partake on it but always pass the info along to others in case they're interested as well.
