Much like they did for the PS4, NVIDIA has announced they will be supporting the Xbox One with their PhysX and Apex SDKs. Used to create realistic physic effects (corrosive ammo effects in Borderlands 2 or Batman’s cape in Arkham City for example), these technologies are among the most popular for designing real time effects; both have been present in PC gaming for some time, and it shows some of the new ways that console gaming is catching up to their desktop brethren.

NVIDIA Announces PhysX Support for Microsoft Xbox One Game Console

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—May 21, 2013—NVIDIA announced its support today for the Microsoft Xbox One game console with its popular NVIDIA® PhysX® and NVIDIA® APEX® software development kits (SDKs).

Together, PhysX and APEX provide solutions for collision detection and simulation of rigid bodies, clothing, fluids, particle systems and more, across a wide range of platforms, including desktop PCs, game consoles, and mobile and handheld devices.

NVIDIA PhysX technology is the world’s most pervasive physics solution for designing real-time, real-world effects into interactive entertainment titles. The PhysX development environment gives developers unprecedented control over the look of their final in-game interactivity.

NVIDIA APEX technology takes content creation with PhysX technology to the next level. Artists can create intricate physics-enabled environments. They can expand the quantity and visual quality of destructible objects; make smoke and other particle-based fluids integral to game play; and create life-like clothing that interacts with the character’s body to achieve more realism in their games.

“We are excited to extend our PhysX and APEX technologies to Microsoft’s Xbox One console,” said Mike Skolones, product manager for the PhysX SDK at NVIDIA. “We look forward to the Xbox developer community taking advantage of PhysX and APEX along with Xbox One’s processing power, programmability and next-generation features to design cutting-edge games that deliver an unparalleled and ultra-realistic experience.”

NVIDIA PhysX and APEX technologies are designed to run on a variety of CPU architectures and can be accelerated by any CUDA® architecture-enabled NVIDIA GPU, GeForce 8-series or higher.

Do let us know if you plan on picking something up – and check the full release after the jump. CHICAGO- May 16, 2013 – bem wireless first entered the tech scene at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year. In only four months, bem has solidified itself as a major manufacturer of wireless products with its release of the speaker trio, outlet speaker, mobile speaker and boom box. This elegant series is now available at top retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon and more.

“We’re thrilled at the consumer demand for our series, and we’re honored that some of the most trusted names in retail wants to carry our products,” says Bryan Katzel, Product Development Manager for bem. “We’ve worked hard to develop a series of wireless solutions that enhances everyday living with bem in the background. Our products are perfect for the home, office, patio, dorm room—anywhere really. Each speaker is expertly designed to seamlessly integrate into your life.”

bem’s products will soon become available at Staples, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Office Max. Looking ahead to Fall, consumers will also be able to purchase bem at Kohls, Meijer, Costco, Tiger Direct, and PC Richards.

Currently, bem offers four wireless audio products including the speaker trio, outlet speaker, mobile speaker and boom box. The speaker trio consists of three speakers that can be place in different locations to fill your space with beautiful music. A calming glow from beneath each speaker adds an elegant ambiance and sparkle to any get-together.

The outlet speaker is a sleek plug-and-play option ideal for the office, bathroom, or kitchen. Your tunes are always ready to go as long as you have your speaker and an electrical outlet.

The mobile speaker is a palm-sized speaker with crystal clear sound. Take the mobile speaker on your next road trip or add some musical flavor to your dorm room.

The bem boom box is a modern day throwback of an 80’s boom box. Bringing the boom box into the wireless revolution, this portable speaker will liven up any party, barbecue or tailgate.

It’s now 20 minutes since the Microsft Xbox Reveal event has ended, and we now have solid details on what we now know to be the Xbox One. Announcing the new console from a specially-built marquee at their campus in Redmond, Microsoft has hailed the Xbox One as the future of entertainment. Join us after the jump as we go through the presentation to give you the lowdown on Microsoft’s newest black box.

Microsoft obviously took a cue from the numerous complaints about Sony’s PS4 presser and immediately showed off the new console, its included Kinect sensor, and the brand new controller. Glossy black plastic seems to the order of the day with the Xbox One looking a lot like a bulkier version of the current Xbox 360 Slim, with the Kinect also having gained a much more chunky profile. The new controller seems to retain the majority of the stick and button placements of the 360′s, but adds “impulse triggers” that incorporate better feedback and a “precision” D-Pad that may go a long way to improving upon the much maligned one found on its predecessor. It’s also done away with the chunky battery compartment and now has an integrated design that creates a sleeker form factor.

Then we were told the actual specs of the console–and much like the eventually released PS4 specs, it’s a bit of a beast. Three separate operating systems working together, powered by an 8-core CPU with 8GB of RAM combined with a 500GB HDD, USB 3.0, built-in Wi-Fi, and a BluRay drive; add to that the fact that the new Kinect now captures a 1080p HD picture and can process over 2GB of data a second, and you can see that Microsoft does not plan to be outdone by their competition when it comes to sheer power.

All this raw power does actually get used; during the presentation we were shown how easily the Xbox One can switch between its new live TV integration, games and apps. Quick gestures and voice commands were all it took to instantly move from games to Internet Explorer to Skype. Oh yeah, Skype. It seems that the Xbox Live chat system has been laid to rest now that Microsoft has aqcuired the vastly popular VOIP, a development that many had assumed would be the case. The new chat option allows for group video calls (streamed in 1080p by the Kinect camera) and can easily be answered by voice commands. In fact, the whole system is heavily reliant on voice commands, with barely a finger laid on a controller through the whole presentation; you can switch between TV channels just by saying the name, and the console can even be turned on with a simple “Xbox, On”.

Also showing off the new processing power is the Snap function. This new feature allows you to run multiple apps on one screen using gestures to re-size windows and place apps. The demonstration showed watching 2009′s Star Trek, while bringing up Internet Explorer to find details about the movie, watch trailers, and book tickets for the new sequel. Here’s where the Windows influence really shines through with the snap function working in a very similar fashion to how multiple Modern UI apps are run in Windows 8.

Once the event moved past showing off the hardware, it was time to bring in the developers. Now Microsoft has already said that their E3 event will be the real place to see what games are in store for the Xbox One–but that didn’t mean they had nothing to show us. EA Sports was out first with details of their new “special relationship” that will see Fifa 14, Madden NFL 25, NBA Live 14 and UFC all launching within the first 12 months of the console’s launch, and with a brand new engine to power them. Also, Fifa 14′s Ultimate Team add-on will be exclusive to the Xbox One.

Next up there were trailers for Max Payne developer Remedy’s Quantum Break – which featured a live action intro before a lovingly rendered shot of a tanker crashing into a bridge – and Forza Motorsport 5. Both trailers were graphically impressive; but without a proper demonstration it’s hard to say how representative they are of the final quality.

There was one more little surprise that Microsoft had lined up for us. While it didn’t necessarily involve the Xbox One directly, it did involve one of the biggest franchises in gaming. Coming from 343 Industries and Stephen Spielberg (yes, you read that right) is a brand new live action Halo series. Given the quality of the Forward Unto Dawn web series produced by 343, a live action series backed by one of the most powerful men in Hollywood can only mean good things.

There are still questions that need to be answered about the Xbox One. There’s no backward compatibility, so where does that leave our digital Xbox Live purchases? Is it really “always on,” and if not, how robust a connection does it need? How will the new console handle pre-owned and borrowed games? Microsoft says they have much more to reveal in a few short weeks at E3; but it’s fair to say they came out swinging, and it’s up to Nintendo and Sony to step up and really wow us come June.

EagleTech had a number of their new Neptor batteries on display. First of all, I just dig it when we see accessories like this designed with some kind of style. Rounded contoured edges paired with vibrant attractive colors? Sign me up.

Also, it’s a decent capacity in a small form factor; the 5600mAh cell fits in the hand comfortably, and should be easy to carry in a bag or purse. Dual USB ports can charge two devices. One port outputs 2 amps to charge tablets.

EagleTech claims the unit should be good for more than 500 charge cycles. Expect a street price around $50.

And it’s running Jelly Bean!

So when you think of CAT as a company you think of Caterpillar construction equipment like backhoes and stuff. I’m sure that like me you don’t necessarily think of tech, especially not smartphones. When you think about it though, what company would have more experience making products that wont break on a job site?

I got my hands on their first android phone, the B15…and I’m kinda digging it. It’s similar hardware to what you’d find in a Rugby Pro, in a shell which looks even a bit more rugged.

A Dual core 1GHz processor is paired up with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage, which can be upgraded via MicroSD card. A 5MP camera is on board which can also shoot 720p video, and the 2000mah battery should do a respectable job of powering the 4″ screen through a work day.

The specs are mid-tier at best, but what’s exciting is seeing an attractive phone which is IP67 certified, which means it should be good to drop from ear height, and should survive under a meter of water for up to a half hour. I’m also excited to see their wet screen tech which allows you to continue controlling the phone even when it’s wet. Capacitive phone screens will react to water, so even though phones like the Rugby are water proof, you can’t really use it when the screen has water on it.

Lastly, we’re treated to a relatively unmolested version of Android 4.1, which aint too shabby, and the entire kit will only run you $350 unsubsidized. Not a bad price at all for a phone which should have a much higher degree of survivability.
