If you work Mondays to Fridays you most likely would be one those who will appreciate the weekend on-coming. I suppose that’s where we get the saying “Thank God it’s Friday” .So the question is what exactly do you look forward to at the weekends? Is it getting ready for another week, resting, Sunday service, shopping, family activities, partying or you know what?

“The best improvement one can make to humanity is to improve oneself”

I share with you what I do most weekends and of course on other days too, it's called making plans and setting goals. So if you are ready to make time to make plans and improve self this is for you. Now the question is how you do set goals and what exactly are they? Goals are an essential part of human life, they helps us determine the essences of our life, According to Robert H. Schuller ~ "Goals are not only absolutely necessary to motivate us. They are essential to really keep us alive"

Obviously without goals or aims living a happy life may be impossible. So get out a pen and paper now and start writing out down your goals and remember here " You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there" ~ Yogi Berra . So sitting down taking your time to establish what you really want from life is quite important. This brings us to the next chapter setting goals.

Setting Goals Tips
1, Journal - I have already mentioned writing down your goals; this essentially is the initial stage. Start by writing down what you hope and want. This can be buying a new home, paying more attention to your spiritual needs, loosing weight, improving health, starting a new business, obtaining financial freedom the list could go on. Writing down your goals helps you brainstorm and put together your thoughts and plans of what you feel is realistic in the short and long term..

“The discipline of writing something down is the first step towards making it happen”~ L.lacocca.

2, Time Frame; For each goal you established you must set deadlines where necessary write down and breakdown how you intent to make it work .It's important you keep to your deadlines. If for whatever reason you fail simply review your goal/s and repeat the process again. Beware here, you don’t want to end up going round in circles because you mostly likely will end up feeling dizzy and this will serve you no purpose. My point take note of when you need to review or change your goals

3, Be Positive; Its common sense I know but hey, this is not just about positive talk. Get into a positive frame of mind feel enjoy the whole process of writing your goals down too. Try and image all goals written down have been accomplished use affirmation daily they help strengthens your goals when used correctly. Refer to what some researchers say about positive affirmation.

4, Get inspired - Here you simply seek for inspiration .Refer to others who have been successful in whatever you are trying to accomplish. The likeness is that what you are trying to accomplish is not new and someone out there has successfully done it. Do your researches, read, get out and network. Create a habit to stay tuned in and be around like minded people those who will encourage you, immerse yourself in their environment.

5, Action; Very important it’s obviously would not make any sense setting goals, getting inspired and doing nothing. This is the stage to make it work whatever it is you have set to do, take one step at a time, babies steps if necessary and organise yourself alongside with your goals.

6, Challenge Fear; Fear will most likely creep in at some stage of the process which is fine.
This is an opportunity for you to feel the fear and do it anyway. So here you DO and BELIEVE you can make it work despite what your thoughts may be telling you for instance "you are just fooling yourself", “ you are wasting time “,"you are a failure" and many more.

“Unless you try to do something beyond what you have mastered you will never grow”~ C.R Lawton.

Good Luck; go through these steps as many times as you want look for additional information as needed seek support from groups or friends :)

This is not just for nine to fivers, it applies to all, shift workers, mamas, papas, unemployed , after all If I may rightly say we all have a purpose in life, we can all contribute no matter how small it is to others life and purpose. We all want to be happy and live a fulfilling life.

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals”~ Zig Ziglar

<script src="<a href=" type="text/javascript" tag="yourwellne-20&o=">http://www.assoc-amazon.com/s/link-enhancer?tag=yourwellne-20&o=1">

Emotions a Powerful Drug - How Do You Use Them?

Most of us realize the dangers of illegal drugs. We’ve seen the advertisements where a person compares your brain on drugs to an egg in a frying pan – that’s not a pretty picture to consider. But sometimes we think that drugs are okay for us. This is often true. Prescription drugs which are recommended and supervised by a doctor are certainly going to help us with a variety of conditions. However if prescription drugs are abused or used incorrectly, they can hurt us just as much as illegal drugs. Emotions are the same way. When emotions are ‘used’ correctly, they can help us during happy and even painful times. But when emotions become drugs, that’s when trouble can begin.

Do Emotions Run Your Life?

Humans are creatures of emotions, whether we want to admit it or not. When we are overwhelmed by a certain emotion, it will run our lives like drugs – if we let it. Think about the last time you were celebrating a big achievement. You were probably over the moon with happiness and you didn’t want to think about anything else. But as you were smiling from ear to ear, you might have neglected other parts of your life, which is not a good way to live. Your emotions, while valuable, should not be in complete control of your life as ‘overdosing’ on the emotional ups and downs can be just as damaging as taking pills or injecting a drug.

The Highs of Happiness and Love

Most people relate the ‘high’ of happiness and of love as being a positive part of their lives. And this is true. When you are happy, you feel like you can do anything, be anything, and certainly like you can continue to be happy. This is a good thing. Happiness tends to be infectious, causing us to think only positive thoughts and to only see the good in others. When you are feeling happy, it’s a good idea to enjoy this feeling, even sharing it with others. Take some time to write down in a journal how you feel and why you feel this way. During times when you're feeling less than happy, then you can refer back to this journal and perhaps tap back into this emotional state.

The Lows of Sadness and Anger

On the opposite end of the spectrum, when you are sad or angry, the emotions can begin to affect you in a negative way. When you are not satisfied with your life, you might begin to see everything in your life as hopeless. You might begin to do things which begin to interfere with plans you’ve already made. For example, you might decide to blow a bunch of money at a mall because you’ve feeling down about something which happened at work. However, spending all of that money isn’t good for your budget either. To help deal with the lows of anger and of sadness, you need to step away from them, just for a bit, to gain perspective. Before you do anything to react to these feelings, stop, take ten deep breaths, and write about what you are feeling. This will help you to slow down the response you will have and you will not do anything based on how emotional you are. Once you are calm, then you can take action.

Emotions can be drugs if they are not used properly. Instead of letting emotions run your life, you want to recognize them for what they truly are – opportunities to make decisions. But as with any drug, you want to make positive decisions which help your life not hurt it.

Developing Good Habits For A Fruitful Life...

Good habits are something that most people want to develop more of. No one wants to be riddled with bad habits, because they are usually bad for them, something that might be embarrassing or harmful in some way. Every New Year hundreds of thousands promises to break their old habits and replace them with new habits. Some promise exercise, others plan to quit smoking and the list just goes on. Unfortunately of those thousands, only a handful change, their habits and maintains their new lifestyle for more than a couple of weeks. Old habits can be difficult to break, but there are a few ways to help bring the new in and get rid of the old. Life is too short for bad habits, it is high time that you put a little trust in yourself, your spirituality and lean on the following to change your habits once and for all.

Replace Good For Bad
For every bad habit there are 3 good ones. Take the time to find a “good” habit to replace the old habit. It might be drinking a glass of water every time you have the urge to smoke a cigarette or jogging in place every time that candy bar calls your name, but do something. Not only does this help take your mind off the old habit it begins to retrain your brain. The brain, of course is an intelligent piece of machinery, it will learn quickly that those urges get filled with a glass of water or a short run in place, and stop calling! Eventually the new habit will become “the habit” and the old will be long gone.

One At A Time

One of the biggest reasons that New Year’s resolutions get broke is because there is a huge list of them. People are trying to change their whole life, which can be pretty devastating to the body. Remember the human body is a creature of habit, so take it slow. Work on replacing or quitting one bad habit at a time. Spend about a month on each habit to really focus in on it and retrain the brain, remember it takes some time!

Use Triggers
Triggers refer to something that reminds you of your old habit. The human heart is capable of many types of love and has enough for many different people. For some love comes easy and for others it is a struggle, sometimes even a painful experience. The trouble may be finding and losing love or the inability to find loving relationships all together. Some feel that they are unworthy, others feel unlucky and then there are those that have trouble loving others, therefore pushing love away. Whatever the trouble, it is possible to be successful at finding love. It takes a little patience, spiritual faith and a few tips certainly couldn’t hurt either.

Loving One’s Self & Those Close To Them
Finding love is important and to be able to love one’s self is even more important. It is hard to love someone that does not love themselves. After all if one is not worthy of their own love, who should take that chance? Truly, giving love to others is one of the best ways to open up the heart and receive love. Without an open heart the mind is closed and can lead to a poor attitude toward love, therefore pushing others away. Take a step back and evaluate the love that you give in your close relationships. Ask, yourself, are you lovable or do you push those close to you away? Ask those hard questions and be honest with yourself, change comes through acknowledgment.

Daily Meditation & A Spiritual Self
Some might wonder how relaxation through meditation or deepening their spiritual self could encourage love. It’s a good question, one that must be understood and here’s why. Many get into relationships for the wrong reasons, rebound, lonely, financial or maybe even a love of convenience. This opens the door to trouble and will likely lead to an ending, therefore losing at love once again. Becoming more in tune with your inner feelings helps clear the mind, making you think things through. Those hasty decisions as well as poor decisions will come to an end. Meditation helps relax the body, free the mind and therefore improve your inner self. This means strengthening your emotions, letting go of the past and learning to heal from the inside out. Improving yourself makes you more lovable, letting all that baggage go makes more room in the heart and it is noticeable to others!

Attracting love is more than just physical attraction; it is about loving you, as well as improving emotions, thoughts and feelings. Letting go of the past and understanding that how you treat others can help others love you as well is the best way to win at love.

The video below laid emphasis on the importance of self love and has provided practical tips to attract love not just for relationships .
<object height="340" It is because human nature is to dwell on the negative unless the individual can find ways to build a better understanding and come to the realization that it is only temporary. Seeing the good can be difficult, but not impossible. Remember if you have breath, you have life. That means another day that you get out of bed is a new chance, a way to start over of sorts. Now it doesn’t mean that the slate is wiped clean, however with time it can be. Here are a few tips for finding hope within your own life, even when times are tough or there seems to be no hope!

Let Some Of It Go
Feeling of helplessness or hopelessness is due to a person’s belief that there is nothing they can do to rectify the situation. They continue to beat themselves up over whatever went wrong, sometimes when it isn’t even their fault. Some of this is normal human nature, but it can only go on to a certain point. At some time, you must let go of the anger, frustration, disappointment or whatever other emotions that you might be suffering with. So you made a mistake, realize that you are human, and to error is human. Give it up and physically speak that you are done with carrying the burden, this might be through prayer or visiting with someone close to you. Now does that mean that you will forget, no, you will likely never forget, but forgiving yourself is the very first step.

Praise For Strengths
Oftentimes when a person has lost their hope they begin to focus on the negative of themselves as well as others around them. This is a dangerous pattern because it can lead to depression as well as other negative health issues. Take the time and think of the strengths that you have, how you have overcome turmoil in the past. Think about what your good at, it might be good at organizing, talking with others or you might be an awesome handyman, the point is to just focus on the good, replacing the bad thoughts. Speak kind of yourself to others and to yourself, absolutely no negative!

Surrounded By Love
Those that love you have hope for you. There is no better way to find that hope yourself than surrounding yourself with those that have a kind regard for you. Not only will their hope and positive spirit rub off on you, it also creates a positive environment. Hope is where happiness is, so take yourself to those places where happiness and love abounds.

How to Build Self Confidence ...Part Two

Thank you for your patience and welcome back to part two of building confidence; before we fire
on I will like to assume you are prepared for this exercise. Preparation and the will are usually important as this determines and provides you with the opportunity to explore reasons you feel building confidence are important or relevant to your life. Refer to part one if you have not done so.
Confidence is preparation. Everything else is beyond your control. ~Richard Kline

Self esteem and building confidence work hand in hand and I could not help but revisit self -esteem last week and will be revisiting this topic again .Self esteem as you all know is essentially determined by the value we but on ourselves. It is a measure in which we use to appraise or evaluate our worth. So when you measure self down you will obviously end up with low or poor self esteem and will most certainly find it difficult to enjoy the attributes of the confident person.. Self confidence is generally characterised by personal attributes such as independence, assertiveness, affection, trust, optimism, enthusiasm and many more positive virtues .

Here are Some of the Benefits of the Confident Person

Self confident people are generally happier and smile more often .

Are not held back by fear and are able to take risks, positives ones.

Most of them are successful people.

They are able to mange anxiety better in tense situations.

Are able to accept praise and praise others .

Have generally reported improved health.

As being and building confidence is not inherited and can be learnt ; here are some practical tips/ exercise for you. Remember practise make perfect and as I have mentioned before, when we are learning something knew it may not be easy or pleasant but the more you push one with determination the better the results. Seek help from support groups if you are struggling.

Practical Tools to Boost your confidence.

1, Reasonability; this is pretty straight forward start learning to take responsibility for your own actions. Cut the blaming, making excuses and pushing the responsibility over to others. You most certainly will start feeling better and more confident once you learn how to be responsible for own your choices. We all make choices even when we decide not to, that’s a choice. The Key here is listening to yourself when you talk to others and be true to yourself , can you hear yourself blaming others?

2, Use your Mirror; I love this one because I make good use of my mirror I Smile say nice things to myself; do the same and practise it daily and don’t do this in an obsessive manner . Learn to appreciate you and how you look, it does not matter if you are too tall, fat or short what matters when building confidence is your ability to feel good about you. I am sure so can site someone you feel you look better than; yet they have more confidence than you.

“We have to learn to be our own best friends because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies”. ~Roderick Thorp, Rainbow Drive

3, The Feel good foods; Yeeepe!!! this is great because you simply can buy these foods and they will work on or interact with certain chemicals in the body to lift your mood. Some example of these of theses foods are Black beans, walnuts, chickpeas, oranges and chocolate and of cause in moderation. Try and keep a healthy diet and exercise too; My FoodhealthMood blog will enlighten you more on this area.

4, Rumours; Talking about others is nasty especially when it is done in a derogatory manner. My attitude to people who do so is get a life.. Learn to talk about what will make you grow, add value to your life and support others. Confident people generally talks about ideas and refer to other people in their conservations in a pleasant manner.

5, Be Honest; Learn to be honest to yourself , we all have a little voice in our head that talks to us when we are wrong, follow your intuition as needed and be honest with yourself.

6,Heads up; now this to me can be a problem and I tell you why ,if you are shy you may for one struggle but here is what to do .Learn to start walking straight and uphold a good posture. Ladies I love my high heels and it has generally helped my here I have no choice but to walk straight and high........ you see it makes me look taller too . When we slump our bodies or constantly look down we send messages of either feeling depressed, shy or tired to our brain.

7, Positivity; Surround yourself with positively and people who will help and support you. When you can do try and support others too, most of us have the ability to support others in one way or the other. Do things you enjoy doing and remember to reward your self.

8, Learn: Try and expand your knowledge ;the saying knowledge is power is certainly true. Finally, learn from your mistake we all make them.

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.”~ Golda Meir

Good luck on this journey....

Improving Self Esteem On Your Own

Self esteem is one crucial aspect which cannot be overlooked when needing to improve self confidence; hence the reason we revisit this topic again before we continue on part 2 of building confidence.

What is self esteem? Is it how you feel about yourself, view the world or interact with those around you? Some believe that it is how a person feels about the way they look, their intelligence or maybe even their social status. While the working definition may differ from the dictionaries definition it is something that must be recognized to assist with improving the way one feels about themselves. After all the way that we as humans feel about ourselves shows in our appearance, relationships, careers and even the choices that we make. Having a poor self esteem can actually hold you back, not allowing the productive, ambitious and inner beauty to shine through. There is however help for those wanting to improve their own self esteem, it doesn’t take pills, counseling or spending tons of money on therapy either.

Declare Beauty & Stop The Trash Talk
One of the biggest culprits of a low self esteem is yourself, that’s right, you! It is you that gets up in the morning complaining about the bags under your eyes, wrinkles, body and so on. When you trip walking in the front door of the office, you automatically assume that you are a klutz and label yourself. The negative trash talk is one of the most prominent reasons that people feel bad about themselves. They call themselves stupid, lazy, fat, trash, crazy or whatever else they can lay their tongue to. Now they certainly wouldn’t call their child a klutz for tripping or stupid for missing a question on their test, but they will certainly bad mouth themselves. Why is this? It is because we are hard on ourselves, to a fault. Some people automatically assume that others will think the worst of them, so they just go ahead and do it themselves. This has to stop, right now! Avoid thinking, speaking any negativity about yourself, if it isn’t positive, it is not allowed. It makes you feel bad about yourself and actually lowers self esteem greatly.

Accepting Yourself
Understand that no one is perfect and also come to the realization that there are some things in life that simply cannot be changed. If it can’t be changed, do not dwell on it, move on. Focus your attention on more productive parts of the self that can be changed. Happiness and a good self esteem come when a person learns to love themselves even though there are things that they may not be able to change.

Building A Life
One of the worst things for self esteem is to dwell on the negative. Instead of sitting home thinking that you could be thinner, prettier or richer, go have fun with friends. Enjoy the time that you have with others and quit worrying so much about negative, focus on the positive. There is no better way to improve self esteem than to learn to love yourself, even though you’re not perfect and surround yourself with positive people that cherish you!
Before you leave kindly drop a comment and share your thoughts about the image used for this post in relationship to self esteem...... Part One

Self-confidence is an important aspect of our everyday life. It gives us the ability and courage to face complex situations and basically do well in most things we embark upon. The beauty of being confident is that generally happiness, wellness and success are usually not far behind.

“Happiness and self confidence come naturally when you feel you’re moving and progressing toward becoming the very best person you can possibly be”. ~ Brain Tracy.

Now on the flip side reduced or lack of confidence will most definitely mean or lead to low self -esteem , fear of failure, negative expectations, self doubt, unhappiness, shyness and many other negative attributes. The aim of this post is to look at a few causes of lack of low self- confidence and provide you with practical tips towards how you can build your confidence and subsequently increases your happiness.

The most sensible thing to do when there is a problem is to address issues from its roots; This could be accomplished in various ways from meditation to self-discovery.

Some Causes of lack of Confidence
Lack of experience; is a very common reason and can be associated with lack of experience within certain areas of ones life where you continuously become hesitant to carry out a role(s).

Beliefs; AKA … Limiting beliefs are very powerful because it what you know and hold on to so dearly; its your reality hence difficult to break .Often people with low self confidence will hold limiting beliefs where they feel their life is controlled by events in the world e.g. the recession. Beliefs they have no control over how they feel, beliefs everything must be done in absolute perfection , beliefs failure reflect you as an individual and many more these are just examples.

Negative experience(s) in life; if you have been beaten not necessarily literally but have suffered from pains both emotionally and mentally the likeliness of low confidence is high. For instance, growing up in a household where you have been constantly told “you will never amount to anything in your life”, Being in a relationship where you have been told too often that you are good for nothing , you are ugly and many more are remarks that impact on one’s life adversely.

Recycling Unhappy experiences; Going over past issues is not so much of a problem provided it will help you address issues of the past and move on to the future. It is when it becomes a recycling process…….then that’s a problem.. I say “life is sweet and too short” so we don’t want to spend 30-40 years in therapy going over the same issue.

Separation issues, this could be as a result of divorce, bereavement or travelling can all be contributing factors to low self confidence.

Gender Issues; Research apparently shows that lack of confidence is a major barrier preventing women from applying for public appointments. As a female I will love to disagree with this...

At this stage you should hopefully be aware of what has led to lack of self confidence in your life. Being aware helps and reminds us that we are not finite (time is limited);we have the potential, the choice to act or not .So our next chapter is about preparing an action Plan to overcome lack of confidence.

“To overcome difficulties is to experience the full delight of existence”~ Arthur Schopenhauer

Action Plan
Self Awareness : lack of self awareness from my own viewpoint can be disastrous.
Get Motivated: This simply means what it says get motivated. I recently published an article on motivation and one of the comments I received was in quote “Just do it”.
Prepare your Mind: If you are mentally lazy, this is the time to start preparing your mind .As part of what you will be doing is expanding your knowledge.
Health & Body: Start paying attention to your health and body if you have been neglecting it. For instance if you feel you are overweight and want to lose weight get motivated and start a plan. If you feel your skin is not the way you will like it to be, do something about it now!

Part two of this post will shed more light on why an action plan is needed and provide you with practical tips towards building self confidence and happiness; stay tuned.

Finding Motivation With A Few Self Helps Tips

We have to have motivation for everything, getting out of bed in the mornings and going to work every day, there is nothing it doesn’t affect. Some people have no trouble staying motivation while others struggle with everyday simple chores. So how do you stay motivated, is there a magic feeling or purpose that one should be looking for? Take the time to look at the self help tips below to uncover a few tricks to gather and keep some extra motivation.

Stop The Perfection Seeking
One of the culprits that steal motivation away is seeking perfection. From a project to a social event, the planning, delivery or the event itself will not be perfect. Understand and accept that accomplishment is the most important thing not achieving perfection to every detail. Stop worrying quite so much about every “t” being crossed! Do your best, finish it and let it happen as it may. This is the hope that having a spiritual background will afford you.

Have A Plan Of Action
Having a plan of action not only keeps you on schedule it also helps with motivation. It is too easy to become frustrated not knowing what to do first. This can be overwhelming, setting you up for failure. So, make a plan, write the steps down and prioritize. Which step is first, what’s second and so on? This is a mini way of making goals and putting them in order, same theory, just a little more informal.

Breaking It Down
Breaking down one big project into several small ones helps achieve your goals. Sometimes looking at a mountain of a project is intimidating therefore dismotivating. Breaking the project down into several smaller ones can make it seem easier to tackle, even giving you a starting point. Look at it kind of like looking at Mt. Everest to climb instead of taking a few smaller hills first. This makes it seem more reasonable and helps put away feelings of defeat.

Giving Praise & Finding Inner Health
These tips will help keep a person moving in the right direction and even help them get going. Tips are good, however you must understand that praising yourself and giving a little pep talk can help motivate as well. Take the time to give thanks to your higher power and appreciate what you have and the opportunities that you have been afforded to you. Learn to build yourself up, rather than be negative about not having a great deal of motivation. Just because you have trouble getting motivated doesn’t mean that you are lazy! Love yourself and accept that once in a while you might need a little kick start, to get your motivation into high gear.

Internal Happiness Makes For External Happiness Achieving Both..

When we are hurting on the inside it is hard to put on a happy smile on and achieve external happiness. After all when there is inner turmoil it can take a toll on a person as a whole. Not only can it ruin relationships, end careers and lead to health issues, but it is also a miserable way of life. Some believe that if they achieve external happiness, such as a new house, relationship or sports car then they can make themselves happy throughout. After achieving success, finding love and buying into monetary goods, they are still not happy. It is then that they begin to realize that external happiness cannot make a person happy; they must achieve internal happiness to truly be content.

At Peace With Your Self
One of the first steps of achieving internal happiness is becoming comfortable and at peace with who you are. Too many people go through their entire life beating themselves up over things that they cannot change. Because happiness is a feeling, a frame of mind, some might say, than it is important that you love yourself, regardless of your flaws. Accepting the facts, acknowledging your shortcomings and working toward goals will help you learn to accept the things that you can change, and stop worrying with what is out of your control. Some find peace in allowing their spiritual side to become stronger; and this represents ‘contentness’ with who you are. Coming to terms with your spiritual side can truly allow you to understand that you were made for a purpose in life, a much bigger purpose, just the way you are.

Never Compare Peter & Paul
Why is it that we compare ourselves to others? Not only is it the way that we look, but where we live, the kind of car we drive and how much money we make every month. We forget to compare the negative things about those individuals to our own life, just their success. No two people are alike and neither are their paths in life. Just because your high school buddy struck it rich, doesn’t mean that he is happy or that you should wish to be “happy” like him. You never know what is going on in someone else’s life, so do not compare yourself to anyone else. Who knows he may have a drinking problem or trouble in his relationship that is never disclosed, secretly he may be wishing he had the life, just like you!
In order to achieve external happiness you must first become happy on the inside. It is just like the skin, it cannot be healthy without the right nutrition, enough water and good health from the inside. Love yourself and accept who you are, and the sooner that you give yourself the chance to feel better about yourself, internal and external happiness will soon follow.

Self Discovery Your Way to Greatness...

Self discovery is a process of self realization, expression and creation which demands a person explores and becomes aware of their true potentials , charaters and motives. I would like to start by asking you to go through this quiz first.
Do you wonder why your life is not how you want it be?
Do you feel unhappy at most times?
Do you feel you will never accomplish your dreams?
Do you feel lost and no longer recognise yourself?
Are you about to give up on everything?
Right!! If the answers to all the questions are Yes , just try to imagine someone you love dearly literally screaming No! No! No! at you ….. And this is why.....
“You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover is yourself”.... the wonderful you... who will Now say No! to the above questions ... by Alan Alda

This article is written to help you establish your way to greatness through self discovery....This concept is understood here as a person’s ability to find and create oneself in order to live and get the best out of life. So how do you find yourself? after all you are not lost... ...We find ourselves by developing a relationship with who we are and how we now; This we are able to do by connecting with our inner self bearing in mind external factors (Life/Life events) around us; In this we make creative choices on how we respond based on how we want our life to be.

Self Discovery Process (Tips)
1,Take time out to reflect on your, actions, thoughts, feeling and association with other people... Remember this is all between you and you now ... so be honest with yourself! The beauty of life is the ability to learn, grow, make reparation or change... so whilst you are in reflection ask yourself what and how you can learn and grow.
2,Your ultimate goal whilst in reflection is to fulfil your individual role as a person, subsequently get the best out of life.
3,The final stage is your ability to be realistic and take action... this is where your sense of responsibility comes in. The existentialist will say that responsibility is the dark side of freedom, with freedom come’s responsibility.

What you may have discovered about you may not be pleasant but hey make creative choices to get the best out of life. “That which does not kill me makes me Stronger” by Friedrich Nietzsche
Whilst in reflection here are some questions you could ask yourself ; do I spend so much time beating myself up over the past? Am I unpleasant when around people ? Do I put others down? The list could go on but the key is to be true to yourself and come up with realistic ways of how to turn all these around.
Nothing is true in self-discovery unless it is true in your own experience. This is the only protection against the robot levels of the mind."- Barry Long .

You may need to go through this process a few times, write down your thoughts with an action plan as you go along with strong focus on how you want to be(create oneself); use visualization which is a powerful process too.
"Never mind searching for who you are. Search for the person you aspire to be". By Robert Brault,

For some individuals seeking help via routes such as therapy, churches, mosques, mediation or organisations which will support you may be needed.
In terms of seeking for a therapist I generally will recommend you look for one with an existential background simply because this approach of therapy is very useful for individuals who seek to find meaning in their life. The therapist is obviously not going to tell you the meaning of your life but will aid you to explore questions such as Who am I, Where am I going, What can I hope, What I ought to do. Lack of meaning can be a major source of stress, anxiety, depression and unhappiness. An existential therapist will not analyse your past but will visit the past to help you learn lessons from it to move on into the future. The therapist should help you expand your self –awareness to increase potential for choice. They should also help you discover your unique being (self) in the world .It is that once you become more aware it is difficult for you to revert back to your old ways. So dear all good luck once again.... on your journey to greatness and remember…..
"Nurture your dreams, Discover your passion, Embrace your visions, Free your spirit, Share your love, Love your soul." ~ Vicki Virk

Proactive or Reactive : Where do you Fit in ?

The phrase “be proactive rather than reactive” in my own experience seems popularly used within work environments mostly in business, leadership roles and is commonly linked to success. It then begs the question, how often do we apply this to our personal life? I suppose when we have a proactive day at home we subsequently feel good and when we do have a reactive day we most likely feel drained; tired and bad…This article intends to link the application of being proactive in all our day to day activities with the view of enhancing our overall general wellbeing and be happy.

“Happiness is a conscious choice not an automatic response” By Mildred Barthel

I cannot help but refer to one of my favourite authors Dr Viktor Frankl who used the word Proactive to describe a person who takes responsibility for his or her life, rather than looking for causes outside circumstances or other people. Frankl stressed the importance of courage, perseverance, individual responsibility and awareness of the existence of choices regardless of the situation or context.

The Reactive person on the other hand will not take responsibility, make knee –jerk decisions at times. They will focus on the weakness of other people, problems around them and can spend the whole day, perhaps all their life blaming and accusing others. My view is they see everything that is wrong with others but not them selves hence hesitant to make reparation.

“The Happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts” By M.S Antoninus

These are some traits of Mr or Ms Reactive!
-Worries about almost everything around and everyone them.
-Are very subjective.
-Blame others….. :-(
-Makes excuses most of the times
-Their favourite word is “I can’t”/ I cannot ….
-They take sides for others.
-Talks about everyone and generally are the ones who gossip.
-One of their popular explanations is “oh!” That’s just me or it is in my nature!
-It’s not my responsibly.
-Feels overly responsible to others.
-They are usually easily driven by events of others and things around them easily.
-Says things like “what’s the point anyway”
-Slow to make productive decisions, Instead will spend more time wallowing over what could go wrong.
-Can be short fused and driven by anger.
-Basically they react to most if not all situations they are confronted with.

These are traits of Mr or Ms Proactive !
-Are able to look at solutions and different alternatives
-Takes responsibility
-Have a familiar phrase “I can” “I will” approach and attitude to life.
-Are able to project ahead and make plans
-Are able to make more productive choices in life
-They are generally creative peoples.
-They are able to use their initiative.
-Do have more ability to control their responses to circumstances they could be faced with and make creative choices.
-Blames less are more occupied with what now, what next and how too.
-Have a positive outlook to life
-Hardly gets lost in event they are generally creative and innovative people.
-Learn from mistakes
-They understand that they can make choices

The Big Question is where do you fit???

“ Whoever is Happy will make others Happy too” By Mark Twain.

In our personal lives especially at home we are most likely relaxed and have no one to remind us of the need to be proactive. However ,by just applying and integrating the whole concept of proactivity into our daily lives not just within the work environment but in life as a whole will enhance our general well being. A classical example is the current recession; some people have either lost their jobs or homes but still have been able to creatively discover new skills within themselves as suppose to blaming and drooling over the current economy. Another example is of a friend who just broke up with her partner but then started therapy to get over the trauma and pick herself up .If she was a reactive person she could have simply or perhaps thrown in the towel in resignation, hate all men and possibly avoid another relationship for life!

Sharing the above information in this manner is to increase our awareness; where you can search within yourself and subsequently make an assessment of what makes you act the way you do and live the way you do. This is what is called self discovery. The view here is to learn to discover you to improve you and get the best out of life.

Self discovery is about understanding our subconscious emotional patterns and limiting beliefs. It helps and empowers us with the ability to soberly reflect and make significant changes to our life.

“Most people struggle with life balance simply because they haven't paid the price to decide what is really important to them” By Stephen Covey

Good Luck on your journey of self discovery……

Five Must have Habits to intergrate into your Day...

The whole concept of habits is great cos it means you just do certain things in life without thinking too much or even care who is around you. I suppose we all have habits from picking our nose when stuck in a traffic jam to smoking... The nose picking one I find funny cos I have come across some well presented good looking people picking their nose and doing all sorts with the “ boogi”, I usually would hoot to drawn their attention, some stop the poking and some just give me dirty funny looks... I suppose it’s the pressure of being stuck in traffic!

Habits “are routines of behaviour that are repeated regularly, tend to occur subconsciously without directly thinking consciously about them. Habitual behaviour sometimes goes unnoticed in persons exhibiting them, because it is often unnecessary to engage in self-analysis when undertaking in routine tasks” By wikipedia .Research has suggested that it takes doing something seven times in a row to develop new habits. So do look at the list below and integrate each one of these into your day; It will most surely enhance your general wellbeing.

Your Daily habits to add value to our life;

1, Gratitude - First thing to do when you open your eyes in the morning, smell the breath of the day or when your feet hit the ground. How wonderful is it to just say in your heart thank you, thank God and be grateful that you yet have another day to do whatever it is you hope to accomplish. There is a saying that “when there is life there’s hope”... I usually spend the first 10 minutes of the day being grateful while I prepare for my day....
2, Water- This is one of the greatest elements from planet earth. Drink lukewarm water first thing in the morning and make it a habit to sit on that loo before you leave home.....Warm water with lemon is usually recommend in the morning due to its cleansing properties and its ability to wake up your metabolism , how great !!
3, Plan – always get your self readying for the following day. So be it.... ironing your clothes, cleaning the house, preparing your lunch pack , making a list of what you intend to do, booking a cab/taxi .. The list could go on; the key here is to plan and set goals/tasks for the next day....
4, Money- At the end of each day empty all your loose coins into a jay/piggybank.. So if you don’t have a jay do get one now!!.. If you don’t have loose coins or any money do try and put in at least a penny into your jar every day. Now! the key here is to learn and make it a habit to look after/ manage your money including the pennies..... This will help and improve your financial habits!
5, Relax- Close your day with meditation, prayers and be grateful once again; Reflect on your day. This is a good opportunity to evaluate your day especially if you had a reactive day as suppose to a proactive one.

From my own experience starting with gratitude at the beginning of the day would instantly set you in motion for a great day. You have immediately set yourself in a state of mind where you look forward to the day as supposed to dreading it. Water drinking and sitting on the loo daily will obviously help you feel light and ready as suppose to sweating and feeling uncomfortable.... Plan: You are more likely to be prepared for your day having set yourself in motion the day before....The money Habit is straight forward; this will prepares you to manage and appreciate every penny. Finally, Relaxation and reflections are opportunities to make reparations if you had a bad day.....We certainly have a high percentage of being happier when we feel fulfilled and had a good day.
So do remember guys get motivated and integrate all these good habits into your life. “Motivation is what gets you started .Habit is what keeps you going” By J.Rohn, and “Good habits are worth being fanatical about” J.Irving….. Good Luck :)

Is Your Self- esteem Debarring you from staying Happy ?

Self esteem correlates with happiness and life satisfaction according to psychologist researcher Christopher Peterson, author of A Primer in Positive Psychology. Our self esteem plays a major part on how we feel on a day to day basis and how we respond in our everyday life. As any other area of self development, self esteem can be viewed as an essential area to develop especially if lacking in one’s life. People with high self esteem will generally enjoy life to its fullest; they are able to be and do want they want in life. On the flipside people with low esteem will most likely struggle where they feel there are not in control of their experiences and their life is out of balance.

Some people will suffer from low self esteem for various reasons: these could be early childhood problems, lots of disappointment as an adult, abusive relations or constantly being a subject to criticism. I usually recommend Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or Nero Linguistic Programming if it has come to the point where a person’s day to day activities are dilapidated

My personal take; however to self-esteem is to learn to love and appreciate yourself first. There is a saying that “You must love yourself before you love another. By accepting yourself and fully being what you are, your simple presence can make others happy.”

Here are a few questions to ask yourself
1. Do you constantly feel people are not paying attention to you?
2. Do you always negatively appraise yourself?
3. Do you mostly feel unattractive?
4. Do you feel comfortable when you are alone
5. Do you like who you see in the mirror?
6. Do you hate to nurture yourself?

If most of your answers to these questions are YES then you are not giving yourself the permission to value yourself positively and enjoy life.
Self esteem is primarily linked to how we view and, think about ourselves. Research has indicated that we have about 6000 thoughts going through our mind daily both good and bad ones. We obviously would not be able to process all these thoughts and when we pay so much attention to the bad thoughts linked to us, we are most likely bound to suffer from low self esteem. One of my favourite quotes is from Victor Frankl writer of “Man’s search for Meaning” which states that “Everything can be taken from a man but... the last of the human’s freedom – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”. This is a great quote to remember. My interpretation of this quote is - that you have got the freedom to choose either your bad thoughts which will make you feel more miserable or your good thoughts which will most definitely empower you.

Like most things in life we need to learn and practise new skills and for some of us; at the beginning may be crap at it (Remember when you first started to learn how to ride a bicycle or drive a car) ….but because we know we will benefit from it we usually keep up the learning until we become masters at it. So why not unlearn your old ways and learn new skills now to appreciate who you are and boost your self esteem.

Here are some tips
· Praise- Learn to start to praise yourself even if it’s for the tiniest thing you feel you have done.

· Use Affirmations- Such as I look great today………. I feel wonderful this day………… look for positive ones which will put a smile on your face. So here say and try and feel what you affirm to yourself.

Quote: “The way you treat yourself sets the standard for others” By Dr S.Friedman.

· Smile – Learn how to smile it certainly will not take a lot out of you start in front of the mirror and try smiling to a stranger when you are out, it does not cost a penny.

· Aware – Be aware of negative and critical voices within you and talk back to them or simply develop a phase to shut them up, it could be “you are a liar” or “I cancel you”.

· List – Look for things in yourself and develop admiration for them and write them down. Remember if you don’t nobody will.

Quote: “It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else’s eyes” By Sally Field.

· Nurture- Spend some time nurturing your gracious lovely body and make it a habit.
Quote: “If I am not for myself, who will be?” By Pirke Avoth

· Music- Start learning how to listen to positive empowering CD’s. I’m sure you known that if you do listen to a tune over and over again especially at night you are more likely to have this tune playing in your head over and over again even after you have switched off the tune . So just imagine this powerful empowering tune going through your head over and over again and how good that will make you feel.

Two very important points to remember - 1 you are learning new skills here and may struggle but the key is to persist until you master the skills. And 2 remember that your subconscious mind knows no true or false, it is not prejudice. It is only aware of you and what you feed into it, so start today by feeding your mind with love and happiness.

How Great to forgive and Be Happy......

I am pretty sure we all have one or two people out there who we would rather have nothing to do with due to events which had occurred in the past and has left us with feelings of dread, hate, annoyance, disgust..... ....You name it anything you like! The key here is that there are some people out there that you need to forgive and the question is; are you ready to forgive and move on to your wellness and wellbeing?

Forgiving others can be one of the most difficult things to do in life yet you’ll derive outstanding benefits once you go through the process. Forgiveness is the driving force behind an apology; it has been described in the dictionary in many different words such as let off, pardon, clemency, compassion, kind, tolerance, merciful understanding allowance and many more. The question is’ which of these wonderful words best described you’? New researches are now looking into forgiveness and its relationship to our physical health .This is to say, the world I believe is now paying attention to its importance. A lot of the many benefits however have been linked to our emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing Some benefits include to reduced stress, improved sleep pattern, more energy (cos.... you are not wasting energy getting angry anymore), better outlook to life, peace of mind and an immune booster.

I can you give tonnes of ways on how to forgive and there are lots of information out there but the most significant aspect here I belief is to be prepared to forgive! And please don’t take too long; it only hurts more; I have been there... done it... worn the tee shirt! “Mental pain is just a ‘blessing’ because it is telling you that something is wrong with the way your life is going. It is a sign that something needs correction whether it is the way you think about the world or what you are doing in the world – or both” by (Susan Jeffers ,2007). So when you feel this pain remind yourself it’s time to forgive and enjoy life. So here are two key points to set you on your journey to forgive and live life to its fullest.

How to Forgive ...
Be Prepared –In anything you want to do in life preparation is usually the key. You just need to think of want goes on in your mind each time you think about whatever it is that has put you in that position where you feel you cannot forgive. Then ask yourself how do I feel? For most it’s an unpleasant feeling; so then would like to live with it? Or release those horrible feelings..... Yes! Please you need to do this....... it certainly would help you make a life changing decision cum Choice here.....I laugh!! Whatever you do here is based on choice even if you decide not to make one.

Now ; ask yourself how you are going to address the issue.... do you approach the person involved or who had put you in that position of feeling hate, unforgiveness or whatever emotion it is you feel?..... . I generally say speak to that person and let them know your perceptions of them and if needed apologize even if you feel you have not been in the wrong, it makes you a better person.

If you are struggling with the above points sought help from forgiveness programmes, churches, meditation, talking to loves ones etc. What I have learnt through experience is that it could take some people years to get over forgiving; hence the reason forgiveness has been described as a process. So use the above information to see you through and make it quite pleasing- life is too short.

Tap into the wealth of resources out there which tells how to use acknowledgment, positive thinking, making a list, applying empathy and visualization. My point and contribution to forgiveness is you need to be prepared and I can’t help but belabour my point that it only hurts more the longer you leave it! Conclusively a lovely quote from Doc Childre and Howard Martin for you all “Forgiveness means that you've decided not to let it keep festering inside even if it only comes up once in awhile” .
Be back soon .--

;

@Fatibony - Does this agree with you ? I love this quote from the Buddha`s -Conformity . So today I hope this is for you where you can reason with me but before I start rattling on how did you all get on with the meditation tips?

A few days ago I had a few friends come over to see me; it was a beautiful sunny day and we were out in garden with a couple of drinks no barbecue – don’t like the smell left on my clothes. We all got down talking about my blog having read it together and I was bombarded with multiple questions from what inspired me to how much time I spend blogging. I explained to them that I have been inspired by my family cum loved ones and enhancing wellness is what I do off line anyway.... Time to blog is great provided you enjoy what you blog about!

What hit me that evening was the debate we got into which revolved around the first entry to this blog (Happiness- 7 Key secrets). Here are some of the questions they came up with; can happiness really be a matter of choice? Is happiness a societal plague urging us all to pursue happiness? (I have this great lecturer Derrick Summerfield at my university who talks from a societal perspective), how can you justify happiness when someone has lost basically everything in life? Right!!! It was quite overwhelming to hear all these questions but hey.... they are my good friends so we spent better part evening sharing, agreeing and disagreeing about the essence of happiness and the key secrets I had shared. We all have opinions and we all interpret issues differently, I suppose it this makes life more interesting which engineered our conversation/debate that evening.

Okay let’s pay attention to this; “is happiness a choice”? One lovely friend of mine felt happiness is not a choice and said it is pointless making happiness one of our aspirations anyway. I thought she was silly ooppppsss!!.... I hope she is not reading this but here is what I asked –“would you rather live a miserable life and die sad” and she rightly said no! I could have left it there but egging her on I consistently quizzed her of not wanting to live a miserable life. She did come up with how our emotions can play around and how different situations would warrant as well as provoke different emotions which I do agreed with; but then as you all know life is full of challenges. But then I keep saying we all have choices how we intend to deal and feel about whatever these challenges this is what really counts. I rightly mentioned in the key secrets that life should be like a river flowing majestically not static --- my point... move on in life and learn from the past!

The notion of happiness has been around a long time. I suppose this is because it’s associated with pleasure. Some contributing factors to happiness include hope, inquisitiveness and gratitude all of which can be developed indirectly meaning you can work towards being happy in life... And please identify what true Happiness is for you in order not to confuse it with shallow contentment.
My final word for today - Make Happiness one of your goals in life, Even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it by Wise Phrase by Jacques Prévert
I love this video what do you think?.

Benefits of Meditation – relax your way to your wellness!

How often have you been able to switch off all the gadgets in your surroundings and enjoy a moment of peace and quiet? It may ensue (as a physiological reaction) from jokes tickling and other stimuli -Wikipedia.
How many times has someone come up to you and ask what drugs are you on, can I have some?? I usually get asked this question following what I call a good nice laugh that comes from within. And here’s my answer- Provided I don’t burst out laughing again I would say am on Endorphin.

Endorphins are neurotransmitters produced in the brain that have pain relieving properties similar to morphine. Aside acting as a pain regulator, endorphins are thought to be connected to physiological processes such as euphoric feelings, appetite modulation and the release of sex hormones. Thus having sex, I mean charging sex, promotes these pleasurable neurotransmitters due to the enjoyment of physical contact, of course eating spicy foods, exercise and laughter are additional good sources of invoking your endorphins and there are many more ways.

Today my focus is on laughter because it is free, cheap, universal and accessible to anyone; so what are the benefits of laughing??

Medical research have found that laughter boost your immune system by raising levels of infection –fighting T-cells.

Sigmund Freud “Relief theory” summarises that laughter releases tension and psychic energy. This theory explains that laughter can be a coping mechanism for when one is sad, angry or upset.

Laughter adds pleasure to your life.

Laughter dissolves stress, anxiety, grief and irritation.

Laughter is a free pain killer by causing the body to releases its own natural pain killer known as Endorphins

Research demonstrates that laughter improves oxygenation, lower blood pressure, strengthens cardiovascular function and increases muscle flexion.

Laughter will overall enhance your general sense of welling being.

So here are some strategies to integrate Laughter into your life, I tell you for some crazy reason whenever I go a day or more without laughing I sometimes feel depressed.

1. Positive thinking - look for the positives in every situation you are in and surround your self with others who think likewise. Remember we live in a dichotomy- dual world.
2. Find humour in your Life- So instead of complaining and beating yourself up over every little thing, why not seek humour instead. This will give you the avenue to learn and move on whatever the situation. I say life is not static – refer to “My Happiness Article “.
3. Entertainment – Comedies, theatres T.V programmes, music whatever you fancy are all out there, look for your taste and have fun. One of my favourite’s comedies is “Little Britain”.
4. Seek advice & support- If you have any ongoing issues which is debarring you from ripping the benefits of laughing, do seek professional help. I should provide a list of life coaches at some point in my blog.
5. Social benefits – Be the funny one when out and about; laughter connects us with others- Practise positive thinking and it will see you through this tip.
6. Be reasonable- of course you need to know what is not funny using your own judgment. Having said that watch the video below; am not sure what to make of it but I must say I did laugh; the man in it just could not stop laughing.

Now just laugh be happy! And enjoy your day, but to rip the benefits of laughing try and laugh from within- I mean make it real!!!

Happiness - 7 Key Secrets

How many times have you thought “I just want to be happy”?! Being happy is simply a state of mind which embraces feelings such as pleasure, content, satisfaction and joy. From the times of the Aristotle, human have been trying to ascertain the key to how we can be happier. Tonnes of research have been done around this topic yet the answer in most cases is pretty straight forward and simply.

Persistence; I have decided to share these secrets having built them as a habit in my life. So this is not just knowing what is happiness and how to, but most importantly creating those habits to make you happy at most times. Now! the mind or brain whatever you what to call it is very good at fighting especially when you try something new and this explains the key of persistence to make this work for you.

Key Tips
1. Be thankful – Create a habit of being grateful everyday. Create moments where you are thankful even at the tiniest things done for you and most significantly feel this gratitude within you.

2. Love yourself – I loveeeee myself!!!!!! Now say that to yourself nice and loud , go and stand in front of the mirror admire yourself and repeat these word until you start to feel the emotion of love within you. This will work with practice; do bear in mind that this is not about being over narsarcistic which could be damaging. Learn to love yourself as you are.

3 Smile- it makes you look attractive .......yes!!!!! It does! Try that too in front of the mirror and appreciate how you look. Smile and give people honest compliments.

4 Reduce Stress- As much as possible do reduce your stress levels. What I gathered is that stress could be as venomous and related to cancerous cell development in the body... Scary isn’t it? There are loads of programmes out there to help reduce stress; look for one that best suits you.My way has been going to the gym it’s great and has certainly helped me.

5 Move On – Our life is like a beautiful stream flowing and cascading majestically through time, not static. Challenges happen to everyone in life; the beauty however is that we all have a choice how we intend to deal, address and feel about whatever life throws our way. Make vital choices that will make you happy.

6 Health is wealth - You must look after both your physical and mental health then relax. It is important to understand the link between a healthy body and mental well being. Eat the right foods, use supplements, and seek professional help as needed. Cleanse and detoxify regularly Click Here! .Aspire to be in good health, a healthy person will radiate positive energy.

7 Keep the company of happy people- You must stay aware from people who will drag you down, life is too short to waste time with such people. It quite easy to practice all the above steps, but then you find yourself spending the whole day hanging around people who are negative and critical; its the last thing you need.

The practicality of being happy is to act and feel the emotion(s) of happiness within you. I cannot reinforce this more........ Make it a habit to feel happy. You must practise these 7 steps daily until it becomes second nature and a part of you .What I learnt in life is that we all have a choice even if when we decide not to make one... that’s a choice too! Manifest happiness Click Here! .
