The film starts off on a mysterious note when a man in sunglasses walks into an open garage and walks out with what appears to be an oar. He proceeds to the garage sale and sets the oar down with the kayak it belongs too. After he sets it down, he takes a seat in a lawn chair at the front of the yard. It becomes clear that this man is the one having the garage sale, and the lawn chair is his throne as he overlooks customers in his kingdom.

After the king sits down, in walks a somewhat happy-go-lucky type character, who is searching for the perfect treasure amongst the king’s trash. He already found skiing goggles that he has put on his head for safe-keeping and a framed picture of Scott Baio. He seems satisfied and goes over to the king to determine the price of the most valued possessions. He gives the king three dollars and is off. The salesman then heads over to his next customer. The customer is eyeing some unused box, called Ab Rocket. That is the king’s last sale (of five whole dollars) of the day before the film cuts to six weeks later.

The same man who bought the Ab Rocket at the garage sale has returned, very unhappy. The disgruntled customer says that the box said, “If after six weeks you don’t see results, you are guaranteed money back.” If only the customer knew that he could get his money back only if he purchased it off the TV, not from a garage salesman who already bought it. It’s a common misconception amongst many I’m sure. But being the salesman that he is, the king takes control of the situation. He asks the customer to show him how it works, suggesting it might be the technique that is causing a lack of results. When he starts demonstrating, the king wastes no time and turns and runs back inside his castle.

Personal Review
This film is relatively short in comparison to others, clocking in at a mere five minutes. However, it provided a specific type of humor I have yet to see in other short films. The humor wasn’t so much as witty or dry but was more so just plain silly. First off, the man having the garage sale was funny because he was taking it more seriously that it actually should have been, with his secret service sunglasses and guard post lawn chair. The first customer also brought humor to the film when he bought the picture of Scott Baio. This is because, number one, Baio is a washed out actor, and number two, the picture looked as if the salesman simply printed out a picture from Google, put it in a frame and decided to sell it. No one in real life would waste any money on such an item.

The end especially made me chuckle. The second customer’s outfit to start was comical considering his build. He had on a tight wife beater that revealed his bulging gut, and he was sporting a colorful sweat band that cut his poufy afro into two sections. The later on, when he down on the sidewalk and struggles to demonstrate the Ab Rocket, it gets even better when a real estate agent drives by with his clients (as he tells them about the wonder school district and quaint neighborhood) and they see this overweight man wriggling on the sidewalk with no one around.

Overall, while the storyline of this film is not as developed, it still was enjoyable to watch because of the silly humor and its carefree nature.

The movie begins styled as a classic black and white film sequence. We see Kelly’s mother sitting on the couch as she happily reads her pamphlet “What Would Jesus Do?” The filmmakers waste no time in recognizing that this pamphlet is meant for ages fifty-five and older. She begins to read the first entry that acknowledges you should love thy neighbor. However, her moment of reflection is quickly interrupted when she sees a “poorly-dressed” Kelly walk down the stairs. Consequently, the first words out of her mother’s mouth are “Where do you think you’re going in that?”

In an attempt to protect her child from real-world dangers, Kelly’s mom demands she march upstairs and change her outfit. However, Kelly appears to perceive otherwise. Despite being utterly upset, she reluctantly makes her way upstairs. Unfortunately, not long after she turns around does her mother notice a Chinese tattoo inscribed on her lower back. “Is that a tattoo?” she exclaims, “Tattoos are from the devil!” Kelly makes her way to her bedroom and as she opens her dresser drawer, she sees what appears to be a hallucination of her mother. As she falls to the ground in shock, the screen cuts to black.

At this point, the video changes from black and white to color as we see Kelly at a modeling agency posing for a photo shoot. She is surrounded by numerous assistants helping her with her outrageous and extravagant outfits. As the video progresses, Kelly’s wardrobe becomes more and more ridiculous as her mother’s becomes increasingly frustrated with her. In an attempt to influence her daughter’s clothing choice, Kelly’s mother insists that boys simply want to “get in her tutu”.

By the end of the video, Kelly finally decides to change her outfit. Her mother watches over as she leaves the house with her friend. However, she firmly reiterates to herself that tattoos are in fact from the devil!

Personal Review
I have always been amazed by Liam Sullivan and the talent he possesses. What started with a humorous video about shoes has now escalated to an even greater audience. This installment is equally as excellent as the rest and there is nothing I would like to have seen done differently. Liam and his crew do an outstanding job with maintaining their cast and deliver a video that is beyond incredible.

I was certainly amazed by the style of this video. It was shot in a way that reflects many popular music videos that are around today. I particularly enjoyed the transitions made from the present time to Kelly’s dream sequence as a model. By utilizing this transition, we were able to see that no matter how hard she tries, Kelly is not able to escape the overbearing nature of her mother. The idea behind this successfully fueled what the main purpose of this video was.

Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and humor of this video. If you are a fan of the now-viral Kelly series, you’ll surely find a liking to this video. A round of applause to director Liam Sullivan, cinematographer Eduardo Cisneros and Pam Cook who did a phenomenal job as the role of Kelly’s mother.

Having it repeat itself over and over again. As we see in Mike Samonek’s “The Glitch”, one man’s casual dinner date quickly turns into the epitome of any dating horror story!

The movie begins inside a local Italian restaurant. We see a young man sitting at a table with his blonde haired and overly excited date. As she tries to strike up a conversation, she can’t help but notice the man is distracted with an incoming text message. She politely ignores his rudeness and asks how his meal is going. After the main character jumps back to reality, he effortlessly replies “The steak is very good, it’s absolutely delish!” As their conversation continues, the main character can’t help but notice his vegetables have a hint of sesame oil in them.

Without hesitation, the young woman takes the chance to make her move. She acknowledges that although it is their second date, she is curious to know where their relationship is going. The main character laughs at her remark but quickly realizes she is serious. As we saw earlier, he doesn’t appear to be interested in this woman. Consequently, he seizes the opportunity to ask the waiter if the vegetables do in fact include sesame oil. The waiter confirms his assumptions and begins to walk away. The main character reaches out to stop him, but is unsuccessful.

The camera changes to a medium shot of the woman. For the second time, she asks where their relationship is going. Her date remains baffled. Before he utters his feelings for her, the waiter approaches their table. Again, the main character takes this opportunity to question the contents of his meal. After the waiter leaves, the camera returns to the medium shot of the woman. Just like before, she continues to ask her date where he see’s their relationship going. At this point, the main character has become increasingly frustrated. Before he can make adequate sense of the situation, the waiter returns for the third time to ask how everything is going.

From the audience’s perspective, we begin to realize the young man is now trapped in a continuous cycle. The entire film continues to show the growing frustration of the man and how he comes to realize he is a part of this never ending loop. As time progresses, we see the character’s actions change as he realizes he can get away with whatever he does. Unfortunately, it only takes one wrong move to break the chain.

Personal Review
This short film is by far one of the funniest I have seen in a long time. Not only does it include a great script, but A-List actor Jason Biggs. From the moment the video starts, you immediately sense the different feelings each character has for the other. The filmmakers use this to their advantage in as many ways as possible.

As the night goes on, the main character’s actions become increasingly absurd. Although this movie bends reality at some points, I feel that a large majority of its viewers will be able to relate to the situation. Without giving anything away, I will say that the ending was my favorite part of the movie. Not only was it hilarious and completely absurd, but it genuinely expressed the frustration and anger felt by the main character.

The director of this film certainly knows how to captivate an audience. If you love comedies, you’ll surely find humor in this film!

One genre we haven’t seen much of this month is How-To presentations. Luckily, we’ve discovered one video that will surely get your mind running. In this quick demonstration, one man tests several methods in an attempt to increase his gas mileage. Unbelievably, he is successfully able to increase his car’s overall gas mileage by seventeen miles per gallon. You’ll simply have to see this video to believe it! Notably, some of the methods he tries can be done with little or no effort, and without the purchase of other materials.

If you’ve been keeping up with the Olympics these past two weeks, you’ve more than likely heard of Jamaican running Usain Bolt. This hilarious video parodies his infamous decision to celebrate early during the 2008 Olympic qualifying rounds. As one reporter asks him, “I have to ask, where do you keep your cell phone when you run?” to which Bolt replies, “The same place I keep the champagne”. This video will surely get you laughing and is worth the time to watch! However, keep in mind this video is only a parody.

That’s all for this week’s video recommendations. Stay tuned for new video reviews starting this Monday!

Monday - The Clap
This was by far my favorite video of the week. Geoff Lindsey’s “The Clap”, tells the story of one man’s obsession with clapping and how it eventually begins to take over his life. The entire short comedy is filled with humor and absurdity right until the very end! In fact, I was quite please with how the film makers decided to conclude the movie. Overall, they did a great job at executing this film, and deserve a round of applause! This film is certainly worth seeing!

It’s 11:59 and your lunch break is at noon. You can’t help but notice that along with every other worker you have stopped to watch the clock. In Raul Martinez’s “30 Minute Lunch Break from Hell” one man finds himself in the most unusual predicament involving his lunch break. Throughout the entire movie, you are left only to guess what the main character will think of doing of next! If your into short comedies, be sure to give this one a look!

Rob Meyer’s “Aquarium” is a short film that deals with many issues of an adolescent in a suburban society. You follow the journey of a young adolescent, David, and the struggles he faces throughout his everyday life. From the moment you start watching it, you will instantly be drawn toward the emotions and feelings felt between each individual character. The director of this film deserves honorable recognition. He truly did a professional job and could not have done this film any better.

Friday - Life Cycle
Tom Mansfield’s “Life Cycle” tells the unique story of a postman whose ambitious outlook on life leads him to his true calling. As we watch this man’s world unfold, we are given a deeper and more in depth look at his daily life. This film was well produced in its entirety. There was never a moment where I felt things could be dramatically improved (but that’s not to say there weren’t some things I would like to have seen done differently). However, overall, the story behind this film is very inspiring, and will hopefully show you that no matter how hard you search, the answers to your destiny may fall right before your eyes.

And that is the conclusion for this installment. We hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s reviews and invite you to stay tuned for more exciting and inspiring videos!

As we watch this man’s world unfold, we are given a deeper and more in depth look at his daily life. By the end of his journey, there’s almost nothing stopping him from chasing his lifelong goal.

The movie starts out with a very creative shot. The camera is positioned such that it follows the tires of a bike as it makes its way down the street. After several seconds pass, we see this bike belongs to the local mailman who is making his way around the neighborhood. He proceeds to stop at several houses to deliver their mail. The production crew makes good use of materials by showing their introductory credits on the mail parcels themselves.

As the mailman makes his way down the hill, his path is interrupted by what appears to be a professional mountain biker. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the biker swerves suddenly, and as a result, drops a personal belonging of which we could not distinguish. As the man speeds down the hill, the postman approaches the item and carefully picks it up. Assumingly, he is going to return the belonging to its owner. Consequently, the postman places the item in his mailbag and continues down the hill in the direction of the mountain biker. Stylistically, the filmmakers decided to keep the camera static until he has disappeared out of frame.

The plot continues, however we have transitioned from a street in the rural neighborhood to a trail in the woods. We see the mountain biker look behind and spot the mailman not far behind. Thinking he’s being followed, he cautiously shifts into higher gear and increases his speed. The mailman, unable to keep up, begins to stumble on his bicycle. As he starts to decline down a rugged dirt hill, his tires loose traction and he begins to swerve. However, he is able to maintain his direction and balance throughout this ordeal. Suddenly, we see a smile emerge from the mailman’s face. To us, it appears as if he is getting enjoyment out of the situation. In the next shot, we see the postman drop his bag full of mail onto the ground. Symbolically, this acts as the transition into the mailman’s future. But what specifically does the future hold for him? You’ll have to watch the video and find out for yourself!

Personal Review
This video was very enjoyable from the moment it started. I was immediately drawn by the creative use of titles to introduce the movie and production staff. Needless to say, the brilliance behind this film didn’t stop there! Throughout the entire movie you’ll discover a mix of excellent sound production, cinematography, and overall presentation.

What I truly like about this film is that the plot plays on the idea of one man and his dream to become a professional mountain biker. When fate brings him in contact with another such biker, he instinctively takes the opportunity to follow him. As a result, he is able to leave his old life and find his true calling. Fortunately, for our postman, it looks as if there will be a happy ending to this short film!

This story is very inspiring, and will hopefully show you that no matter how hard you search, the answers to your destiny may fall right before your eyes. This film is excellent and will most certainly be listed on our top picks for movie reviews!

You follow the journey of a young adolescent, David, and the struggles he faces throughout his everyday life. By the end of the film, you feel a strong connection with the characters as you learn more about their past.

The movie starts off very intense with several well executed wide shots of a boy traveling with his dog in a wagon. It builds up to a scene where the boy ties the dog to a cinderblock and pushes it off the dock into a lake. Within the first two minutes there is an unexplained death used to introduce the main character of the film.

The movie continues to follow the apparent everyday life of the boy, David, from his point of view. The director does an excellent job of showing how parents will try and encourage a child they feel is having a hard time. However in doing so, the child simply thinks the parents are being annoying. As a character, David is almost always portrayed as a struggling adolescent. Specifically, this is shown from the strangeness of his friend, who is proud that he taught his bird to defecate on command and is currently teaching the pet to play “Mario Brothers” on the key board. As we are introduced to the cute “girl next door” Eilen, the friends plan to go to a fish conference. We are shown another boy, Peter, to reinforce the nerdy status of the main character. Humorously, he begins to discuss how he believes a bomb can be created from flour.

The film continues to show the relationship between David and his family. He is very different from his brothers and their relationship is further torn when they begin to make fun of him. Still, David’s parents do what they can to alleviate the uneasy air between David and his family. His brothers continue to ask David why he drowned his dog but David never gives an answer.

The friends go to the fish conference and David brings one of his fish to show off. Once the boys arrive at the conference they see the girl next door, Eilen. She has brought her father, an aquarist who has sold the boys fish in the past. David tries to act as if he isn’t interested in fish but his friends make it impossible for him to do so. Throughout the evening, the conference presentations become boring. As a result, David wonders off and follows Eilen to an area where penguins are kept. Their conversation escalates to the point where David reveals why he killed his dog. Filled with suspense and even some comedic parts to lighten the load, you will enjoy all 16 minutes of this movie.

Personal Review
This film was done exceptionally well. Every adolescent who has ever thought a little different than the norm can relate to this short drama. The director uses a great mix of shot angles and styles to portray many different feelings. I thought that it was incredible how the director was able to make the simple day seem so suspenseful and keep the viewer itching to know why David drowned his dog.

The dialogue in this film was perfect. The way the characters interacted was perfect (the brothers’ relationships with each other were probably my favorite). The dialogue was chosen so well and it was very entertaining. Evidently, no speech was unnecessary or out of place.

The director of this film deserves honorable recognition. He truly did a professional job and could not have done this film any better. The story was great and the cinematography was even better. I am looking forward to seeing more films from this director that are each as exceptional as this one. I would definitely watch again and I highly recommend it!

* No animals were harmed in the making of this film.

You can’t help but notice that you along with every other worker have stopped to watch the clock. As you stand there, your mind begins to wander off as you watch the second hand tick one by one. Sound familiar? In Raul Martinez’s “30 Minute Lunch Break from Hell” one man finds himself in the most unusual predicament involving his lunch break. By the end, one can only wonder how the rest of his day will end up.

As stated above, the film begins promptly at 11:59. We’re shown the first of three workers, who appears to be lost in a state of confusion from the look on his face. As the time approaches noon, we see several more workers drop their supplies to ponder the hour. Almost ironically, as the time gets closer and closer to noon, the second hand begins to move slower and slower until it finally reaches its destination.

After the clock strikes noon, the shot switches to a small white table where we see several workers take their lunches. Unlike the rest of the crowd, one man’s lunch stands out from the rest. Rather than packing his lunch in a reusable plastic bag, the main character decided to go with a traditional silver tin lunch box. Unfortunately, as we soon find out, his decision to bring this lunch box quickly reverses his luck.

After taking his lunch from the table, the ambitious worker walks outside and looks for a place to sit. After having found the perfect location, the man brushes it off and sits down. He takes a fork and knife from his tool belt and prepares to indulge in the lunch he has worked the entire day for. However, he soon realizes this will be quite a challenge. As he unlatches the two buckles of his lunch box, he notices that they are jammed. He tries numerous ways to open it until he finally settles on another method- a screwdriver. Needless to say, the worker’s efforts fail him.

When no other method will work for him, the main character eventually resorts to more extreme methods. In the end, the worker is struck with a surprise that even his lunch box can’t compete with! Overall, this video is great for anyone with a good sense of humor. It will have you smiling the whole way through!

Personal Review
Like many other people, I’ve been in situations similar to the ones seen in this film. As a result, I was easily able to relate to this video. The entire story reminds me of any number of disasters that can occur on a day to day basis at work. From the title, one can easily guess what this video is about. However, the filmmakers take it to the next level with a surprise ending that left me laughing out loud.

From the moment I started watching the video, I instantly felt as if I was a part of the action. The video makes good use of camera angles and effects that drive the action together in a fluid and seamless motion. This is no surprise, seeing as this video was created at the New York Film Academy. Consequently, I was very impressed with the production value of this short comedy!

If short comedies are of interest to you, you’ll easily get a kick out of this movie. However, don’t forget the moral of the story the next time you’re caught watching the clock for lunch time!

By the end, one can only wonder how the rest of his day will ...

The Clap

Have you ever been devoted to something to the point that you spend your entire life trying to pursue it? As we see in Geoff Lindsey’s “The Clap”, one man’s obsession with clapping eventually begins to take over his life.

The film begins with a man shopping in the gift shop of a concert hall for some CDs. The salesman at the store asks him if he will be attending the concert that evening. The man politely replies stating he no longer attends concerts because of an obsession he had in the past.

The next scene is a flashback that takes us to the guy sitting in the audience of an orchestral performance. He says that while he enjoys the music, his favorite part is the end. Why you might ask? He loves to be the first person to start the round of applause at the end of the performance. One can tell he gets so involved with the performances and the music from his exaggerated head bobs and wide eyes as well as his large open nostrils. If someone tries to start clapping before the performance is completely over, he loses his temper and tells them to wait!

He finds one piano player, Krzysztof Veneer who he absolutely loves. After the first performance he sees, he almost compulsively decides he will go to every one of his shows. His strange antics continue as he “subtly” tears off a woman’s hat that is obstructing his view. He even brings the composer’s sheet music so he can follow along during the show, and as a result, know when to start clapping. His greatest satisfaction comes when he plays a live recording of the concert and can identify his clap at the end.

He calls Krzysztof his associate and claims that he is collaborating with him by going to every one of his concerts. In the mean time, Krzysztof realizes the man’s obnoxious obsession and the anger at the end of his performances begin to build throughout the film. After one performance, the pianist attacks “the clapper” and has to be pulled away by his chauffeur. Krzysztof is determined to stop the madness. At the next performance he decides to play one extra piece not listed in the program in an attempt to throw off his obsessed fan. “The clapper” starts to lose his cool as he will not know when the end of the piece will be. At a strategic pause in the song “the clapper” starts to clap thinking the music is over. Little does he know it is far from over. Ironically, “the clapper” gets shunned by all the people he had silenced in previous performances.

In the last performance we see, “the clapper” is nowhere to be found. Ever since he was embarrassed his hobby has ceased. Is Krzysztof finally at ease that his performances will end in a normal applause or does he miss his most adoring fan? You’ll have to watch and find out for yourself!

Personal Review
This movie easily reminds me of the men in high school who always tried to start the “slow clap” at a sporting event or in the middle of class. This film is so interesting because it utilizes this simple idea of being the first person out of many to start the round of applause and takes it one step further. As we can tell, the character in this film takes his job very seriously. The first clap at any performance is no laughing matter.

I think the actor chosen to play the main character fits the role perfectly. He is somewhat of an awkward looking fellow with glasses and a big nose. His look caters to the idea of a geeky guy who spends a lot of time alone and finds pleasures in bizarre things. He is like a groupie at a rock concert. He follows the pianist everywhere, but instead of sleeping with the band members, he shows his affection with a loud thunderous clap.

The picture quality of the film was impressive. I felt like I was watching a film that would be shown in a movie theatre. However, subtle, humorous clues let you know that this wasn’t a high budget film. For example, in the beginning of the first concert the camera never shows an actual orchestra playing. We see merely the conductor and what appear to be the violins. However, if you take a closer look you will notice that these are not violins but simply the tops of pins moving up and down. This clever camera trick surely adds to the uniqueness of the film. Overall, the directors did a great job at executing this film, and deserve a round of applause!
