Tim Leidecker talked exclusively with Andrei Arlovski ahead of his bout against Mike Hayes at Fight Nights 9.

Arlovski will attempt to capture his fourth win in five outings when he squares off with Hayes at the Dynamo Sports Palace in Moscow. The event streams live on pay-per-view on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT and can be purchased through Sherdog.com for 99 cents. The first 100 people to order the pay-per-view will receive a coupon that can be redeemed to cover the price of purchase.

MOSCOW -- Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski tipped the scales at 241 pounds Saturday ahead of his Fight Nights “Battle of Moscow 9” main event.

His opponent, Bellator veteran Mike Hayes of Redmond, Wash., weighed in at a considerably lighter 227 pounds.

“I had been trying to make the drop to 205 pounds on numerous occasions this year,” Hayes told Sherdog.com, “but when an opportunity to fight somebody like Arlovski comes around, you answer the call.”

The event streams live on pay-per-view on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT and can be purchased through Sherdog.com for 99 cents. The first 100 people to order the pay-per-view will receive a coupon that can be redeemed to cover the price of purchase.

In the co-headliner of the MMA portion of Sunday’s card -- which also features three fights contested under K-1 rules -- Fight Nights flyweight champion Ali Bagautinov came in at 125 pounds. His opponent, Germany sambo champion Andreas Bernhard, weighed in at 123 pounds.

Due to a personal tragedy, Dutchman Nills van Noord was absent from the weigh-ins. The Bob Schrijber student and teammate of UFC heavyweight Stefan Struve was on his way to the airport Friday when his pregnant wife was involved in a car crash. His opponent, Moscow’s own Abdul-Kerim Edilov did make weight, and will face short-notice stand-in Nicholas Babchuk of Belarus tomorrow. Babchuk was not present at the official weigh-ins.

Roy Nelson has faced some searing criticisms throughout his career. Most of those have been directed at his weight.With that grotesquely protruding belly, he is perhaps the most out-of-shape “looking” fighter in the whole of the UFC.

I say “looking,” because he has proven his detractors wrong time and time again enduring some punishing contests and taking some of the best heavyweights in MMA to the distance—including former champion Frank Mir and current champion Junior Dos Santos.

To consider him merely a “gatekeeper” with that record is perhaps unfair. However, he has yet to prove himself a true contender.

Since entering the UFC, with a win over Brendan Schaub during The Ultimate Fighter finale in 2009, he’s gone on to a 4-3 record. That’s hardly the making of a champion in the UFC’s fiercely competitive heavyweight division.

But a closer look at his record tells a different story.

For one, he was the most complete fighter during the TUF series in which he took part. A BJJ black belt with perfectly honed MMA boxing and knockout power, he stormed through the series—and won.

That already sets him apart from the second tier of heavyweights.

Inside the UFC, every fight he has won, he has knocked out or TKO's his opponents. There are not many men that can boast that kind of record, nor have that sort of power in their hands—especially a man that many think should be fighting at 205 pounds.

What’s more, the three fights he has lost, were all against men many would argue are top-five heavyweights, all of who went the distance with him, including Fabricio Werdum.

No one’s been able to finish "Big Country" inside the Octagon, and that says a lot about Nelson’s heart, his chin and his potential.

But in all his fights, it seems that there is, in fact, something missing. UFC president Dana White has often lamented that Nelson refuses to take his career seriously, and it’s a lament that Nelson must be getting tired of hearing.

There is something to be said for White’s opinion, though. Despite Nelson’s often commanding performances, he’s hardly set the division alight.

On the big nights, when he’s had the opportunity to truly step up to title contention, he’s been found wanting. Even if his chin has taken him the distance with the likes of Mir, Dos Santos and Werdum—he’s been completely dominated by all three men. And that, in fact, is the hallmark of a gatekeeper.

He’s never seemed a title threat in his entire career and there’s nothing we’ve seen of him to indicate that he could pose any challenge to the Cain Velasquez’s, Daniel Cormier’s or Alistair Overeem’s of this world.

At 36, that opportunity might already have passed him by. Even if he does beat Matt Mitrione, who he’s slated to face at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale on Saturday night, it’ll be a Christmas miracle if the win puts him any closer to a title shot, leaving him consigned to the perennial state of "gatekeeper."

Nelson’s fight against Mitrione will be aired live on FX from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

This Saturday night on HBO boxing, one of boxing's pound for pound bests, Nonito Donaire, steps in to the ring to face Jorge Arce. With countryman Manny Pacquiao down, can Donaire become the next Filipino boxing mega star?

This is another busy weekend for combat sports fans with two UFC shows, a stacked Bellator card, K-1, and more. One key fight that should not get lost in the shuffle is Saturday night's boxing showdown between Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KOs) and Jorge Arce (60-6-2(1), 46 KOs). Donaire vs. Arce airs this Saturday night, December 15, live on HBO. The event starts at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT.

Donaire may not have a huge profile outside of the boxing world just yet, but he's a fighter who is perhaps on the verge of becoming the sport's next major star. He's a four division champion, a top pound for pound fighter, and is closing in on becoming the fighter of the year for 2012. Those are all tremendous accomplishments.

And yet, in a way, they're not quite enough. Because Nonito Donaire finds himself in a tough position. As a smaller fighter hailing from the Philippines, he will forever draw comparisons to a certain other noted Filipino fighter. When you look into Donaire's accolades and biography, it's interesting how much the name Manny Pacquiao comes up. Donaire is the second Asian fighter to win titles in four divisions (the first? Pacquiao). As a boy, he attended the same grammar school as Pacquiao. And, like Pacquiao, he's recognized as one of the prize athletes from the Philippines.

With Pacquiao falling so hard last weekend at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez, and with his future now in doubt, the pressure to represent his home country will become even greater for Donaire. If Pacquiao is done (and even if he's not, it certainly seems like just a matter of time now), then it's up to Donaire, the so called "Filipino Flash", to carry that flag.

The thing is, he can do it. Donaire is a truly gifted fighter who has grown up in boxing. He's a skilled athlete, able to combine speed, technique, and power to effectively outstrike opponents from either orthodox or southpaw. He is aggressive, but not reckless, and that aggression has resulted ins some of the most spectacular KO's and knock downs you'll find in boxing. His status as a pound for pound great is well deserved, but with that status comes that sense of responsibility - to himself, his trainers, and his country. A thoughtful, human fighter, Donaire is acutely aware of that responsibility, as he has talked openly about his need to not let others down in the ring.

That responsibility begins this Saturday night as he takes on Jorge Arce. And again, the Pacquiao loss adds an extra layer of responsibility, as Mexico's Arce is a countryman of Juan Manuel Marquez. This Philippines vs. Mexico rivalry has become fierce in boxing, largely on the back of Manny Pacquiao, who went to war with numerous Mexican opponents, typically coming out on top. Right now though, the Mexican side clearly has a massive boost thanks to Marquez. It's up to Donaire to avenge that loss and reassert the Filipino victory laid out by Pacquiao.

If he can, he will likely take home the fighter of the year honors, and very possibly set up a big fight with the undefeated Guillermo Rigondeaux (provided Rigondeaux wins Saturday's undercard fight against Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym). He'll also take another step towards breaking through to the superstar level. But even with a win, two big questions will remain. First, will the public get behind a fighter at this low weight class? And second, if he does break through, will it be because he is "the next Manny Pacquiao" or because he is simply who he is - Nonito Donaire, one of the best in the world? We'll find out at least some of these answers Saturday night.

UPDATE: The Rigondeaux vs. Poonsawat fight has been cancelled. Poonsawat failed his pre-fight medicals, reportedly for testing positive for HIV. No word yet on if Rigondeaux will fight a late replacement opponent, though on such short notice, I would not bet on it.

Mehdi Bouadla (26-4, 11 KOs) will be travelling to Nuremberg, Germany next week with a lot of self-confidence. The man from France will take on WBO Super-Middleweight World Champion Arthur Abraham (35-3, 27KOs) on December 15. And the 30-year-old is prepared to cause a big upset in his first world title bout. Although his training schedule keeps him very busy, he managed to take out some time for a quick interview.

Mehdi Bouadla, you are currently riding on a wave of success. You won all of your last four fights. How are you feeling ahead of December 15?

Mehdi Bouadla: Of course, I am feeling really good. My last bouts all went to my full satisfaction. But I will feel a lot better once December 15 is over and I am able to wear that WBO Belt around my waist.

The last time you found yourself on the losing side of a fight was against Denmark´s Mikkel Kessler back in June 2011. What went wrong for you back then?

Mehdi Bouadla: Kessler, who was boxing in front of his home crowd, was the better boxer that night. It is as simple as that.

Did you learn any valuable lessons from that fight, something that might help you against Arthur Abraham?

Mehdi Bouadla: Kessler and Abraham are two real champions. But that is the only thing they have in common. Of course, I took something out of the fight in Copenhagen, but I was a good boxer before that night anyways. The bout against Abraham will be something completely different, as his style is completely different to Kessler´s. The preparation for Nuremberg is going really well. The training is very intense but that is the way it is supposed to be.

Where do you see the strengths as well as the weaknesses of your opponent?

Mehdi Bouadla: I know that it won’t be easy against Abraham. He has tons of experience and participated in many world title fights. Therefore, he knows what the pressure feels like. You will understand that I cannot talk about his weaknesses. I will reveal them to everyone watching the fight on December 15.

What will your days leading up to the big night look like for you?

Mehdi Bouadla: We have almost completed my sparring and will travel to Germany on Tuesday. Once we get there, I will try to relax and just keep my focus. But it is always like that ahead of a fight. It has become part of my routine.

What kind of person are you outside of the squared circle? What do you like to do during your spare time?

Mehdi Bouadla: When I am not inside the gym of my hometown of Aulnay sous Bois, I like to be around my family and friends. There is nothing better than surrounding yourself with your loved ones. I also enjoy watching good movies and sports in general.

What will be the outcome of the world championship bout on December 15? Will it go the distance?

Mehdi Bouadla: Unfortunately, I can’t predict the future so I am not able to tell you the way the fight will end. But I can promise you one thing: I will definitely give it my all. No matter if the fight goes the distance or not. I will push him from start to finish.

Barthelemy and Usmanee to Battle for IBF #2 Spot at Junior Lightweight

The IBF has sanctioned the Rances Barthelemy vs. Arash Usmanee fight on Friday, January 4, 2013, as an IBF Jr. Lightweight Title Eliminator. The winner of the Bout will be ranked number 2 in the world by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) at Jr. Lightweight.

Presented by Warriors Boxing and Bad Dog Productions in association with the Magic City Casino, live from Stage 305 in the Magic City Casino in Miami, Florida. Barthelemy vs. Usmanee will serve as the 12-round junior lightweight main event on a show entitled “Friday Night Fights at Magic City Casino”.

Unstoppable Germany outclass visiting USA (5-0)

Lausanne, Switzerland, 07 December 2012 – A packed EWS Arena in Göppingen was treated to a near-flawless performance by the German Eagles as they completely overwhelmed the visiting USA Knockouts in Group B. Gojan, Sopa, Michel and Pfeifer were the stars of the show on a night when everything went right.

The experience of German Eagles’ 29-year-old Veaceslav Gojan told in the evening’s opening contest, with the savvy Moldovan looking comfortable throughout the five rounds against American WSB debutant Shawn Simpson. Gojan moved well and used an excellent variety of punches to outsmart his young Bantamweight (50-54kg) rival, taking each of the rounds of each of the judges’ scorecards to give the Eagles to early lead in the match.

20-year-old Kastriot Sopa then impressed in his first WSB outing, with the Eagles’ orthodox fighter putting on a performance full of verve against the USA’s experienced Eric Fowler. The Lightweight (57-61kg) German was relishing taking to the ring in front of the fervent crowd. Sopa looked classy, picking his shots to perfection to stamp his authority on proceedings early on. He continued to grow in confidence as the fight progressed and looked convincing as he cruised to victory.

The Middleweight (68-73kg) bout was a short-lived affair with Xhek Paskali winning the contest by TKO after the USA Knockouts’ William Williams was severely cut over the right eye towards the end of the second round. With the American orthodox fighter unable to continue, the talented German 22-year-old was declared the winner and the home side had now an unassailable 3-0 lead in the tie.

It was the impressive Serge Michel up next, with the German Eagles Light Heavyweight (80-85kg) high on confidence after defeating 2011 Individual Champion Abdelhafid Benchabla in his previous outing. The 24-year-old orthodox German faced Swedish heavy-hitter Kennedy Katende in this one. The taller Michel boxed smartly against the slippery southpaw from the USA Knockouts, using his range and keeping his distance to draw his opponent in before unloading some sweet combinations. Some slick counter-punching followed in the latter stages which ensured the German orthodox claimed another win for his team.

The final bout of the evening saw 2011 AIBA World Championships bronze medallist Erik Pfeifer face the Knockouts’ 23-year-old Hungarian Istvan Bernath. These two powerful Heavyweights (91+kg) put on a great show with both going at each other right from the off. The German’s technique was at times sublime as his attacks found their target time and time again in rounds three and four. That deadly right hook of Pfeifer’s rocked Bernath several times and the German had the crowd up on their feet as he stormed his way to victory.

It was a resounding win for the home team, to the delight of the home crowd, but it will be much tougher next weekend when they travel to Earl’s Court in London to meet the British Lionhearts on Friday 14 December (Tickets are still available). After the fireworks boxing provided last weekend, Amir Khan and Carlos Molina have a lot to live up to when they lock horns in a grudge match at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Saturday night.

Khan has fallen on hard times recently. The 26-year-old star has lost his last two fights, against Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. There was some judging controversy in the Peterson fight, not to mention the fact that Peterson failed a drug test prior to their rematch. He is in desperate need of an official win in the ring right now.

Molina is looking to elevate his star, while simultaneously send one of the best boxers of this generation further down the rabbit hole with no hope of rescue. He has been slowly building to this fight all his career, which has included two sterling unanimous decision wins already in 2012.
Use Long Limbs to Attack Smaller Molina; Go for the Finish Early

One of the biggest advantages that Khan has heading into this fight is size and reach. He has more than four inches in height on Molina, and his lanky body allows him to stand back to attack a smaller opponent.

Khan can really create a lot of leverage behind his punches, particularly against a fighter like Molina. He needs to use that leverage, as well as his power, to get after Molina early and often. He is at his best when he is going for the knockout early; even if it doesn't happen, he wears down his opponents early that they are done before a fight gets to the later rounds.

Another factor that will put Khan over the top is his defense. He tends to get so infatuated with his own ability to strike that he gets sloppy and leaves himself open to attacks from his opponents, which is what happened to Khan against Danny Garcia.

Don't Turn the Fight into a Slug-Fest; Fight Backwards Against Khan

Khan is obviously going to have a power advantage in this fight. Molina's size and style does not lend itself to winning a lot of fights via knockout. He wants to wear down an opponent, take the fight into the later rounds and put his opponent away.

Molina is smart enough to know that he shouldn't get into a slug-fest with Khan. His best path to victory will be to start fighting backwards early before turning the tables on Khan in the later rounds.

By fighting backwards, I mean that Molina needs to play defense early, picking and choosing when he strikes and making the most of his attacks. As the fight moves along and Khan gets frustrated at not being able to put him down, Molina can use more combinations and power strikes.

Friday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, former champion Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KO) returns to action following an 19-month layoff, and will go to battle against Polish prospect Aleksy Kuziemski (23-0, 7 KO).

Since losing a unanimous decision to Bernard Hopkins and surrendering his WBC light heavyweight belt in May of 2011, Pascal has since suffered an injury preventing him from returning to the ring and resuming his efforts to work his way back to a world title fight.

“I was thinking a lot,” Pascal told 15rounds.com about his 19- month layoff. “Friday night you are going to see a 2.0 version of Jean Pascal. I think those 24 rounds with Hopkins have made me a better person as well. I have a lot of experience, and am not a prospect anymore. I am not green, and am very mature. My goal is to capture the world title, but I have to think about Friday night; I have to think about Aleksy. I love challenges, and I will be ready to rock the world Friday night.”

Prior to the two fights with Hopkins (0-1-1), Pascal successfully defended his title four times, with his last win coming against then undefeated favorite and current WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson.

Pascal is currently scheduled to face Dawson for a second time and fight for the belt in March of next year, but he knows he can’t look past the upset-minded Kuzmienski Friday night.

“The fight against Chad Dawson does not exist in my head,” Pascal continued. “The only fight that exists is the fight Friday night the 14th against Aleksy Kuzmienski. “It is going to be a good challenge. He is the underdog, but when I fought Chad Dawson, the odds were 4-1 against me, and I beat him; so odds don’t mean anything. I know the odds are for me in this fight, but I beat Dawson when I was the undergod. I am well prepared for Friday night and am gonna do what I do best, knock people out.”

Despite staying active inside the ring within the past two years, Kuzmienski has been less than consistent, winning four of seven fights, while getting stopped in two of the three losses.

Against the heavy-handed Pascal the former Polish Olympian will need to stay busy and stay out of range to avoid the big shots. Pascal will undoubtedly be looking to make a statement in his return, especially in front of his hometown fans, and will be anxious to end the night early.

But while Pascal needs to impress to show he can come back strong following the layoff, Kuzmienski has nothing to lose. He has the opportunity to shock the world by pulling off an upset against the former champion in his own backyard, which would lessen the impact of the rematch against Dawson.

It is crucial for Pascal to go into the fight Friday night focused and intent on the mission at hand—get his ring presence in and exit the ring with a ‘W’.

Friday night will be an indication of what kind of fighter Jean Pascal will reemerge as following the layoff. Will he be hungry and unrelenting with his drive to get back to the champion stature which he once held; or will his comeback be short lived?

For some big fights—and certainly title fights—I like to take a look back at each fighter's career and timeline and how he got to this point.

Benson Henderson is set to defend his title for the second time, and after ending his feud with former champion Frankie Edgar, he will take on a bigger man in challenger Nate Diaz. Both men have lived different lives and took different paths to get to this point.

Controversially or not, Benson Henderson was able to defeat Frankie Edgar in back-to-back fights, and that now puts him in a position to begin writing his place in the history books as lightweight champion.

In the UFC on Fox 5 main event, Henderson will attempt to defend his belt for a second time against Nate Diaz. The challenger has won three straight fights in impressive fashion and will be looking to become the fourth Ultimate Fighter contestant to win a UFC championship.

In addition to the lightweight title fight, Saturday's event will also feature an important 205-pound bout between the rising Alexander Gustafsson and former UFC champion Mauricio Rua. The winner of that bout should find themselves very close to a championship fight in the light heavyweight division.

Furthermore, B.J. Penn will return to the Octagon for a bout against Rory MacDonald. Penn has been out of action for more than one year, but he is reportedly in excellent shape and ready to settle what has become a heated feud.

To promote UFC on Fox 5, which will be held at KeyArena in Seattle, a pre-fight press conference will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. Event headliners Henderson, Diaz, Rua and Gustafsson will likely join UFC president Dana White for the presser.

Kenny Garner says he expects his fight with Guram Gugenishvili to be another fan-pleasing battle between the two great rivals!

M-1 Challenge 36 Fight Live Streaming Online!
The heavyweight rematch between Kenny Garner and Guram Gugenishvili at tomorrow’s M-1 Global event at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia is pretty far from the “Local Fight Watch’s” jurisdiction. However, Garner and Gugenishvili are names familiar to New Jersey fight fans who were first introduced to the pair during M-1′s experimental Selection Series in Atlantic City. Garner came out on top of the Selection Series heavyweight tournament, an event that remains one of the most action-packed in Atlantic City’s storied history, even though it was not as profitable a venture as M-1 had hoped for.

Garner was immediately catapulted to a bout with Guram Gugenishvili that was broadcast free from Russia. Gugenishivili was, and remains, a prominent dark horse in the world of MMA heavyweights. At the time he was looked upon as the best prospect in the world yet to be signed by a major American company, like the UFC. The bout had a serious Rocky IV vibe and Garner gave M-1′s top prospect a run for his money before Gugenishvili pulled out a technical submission via standing guillotine.

Since then, M-1 stopped coming to New Jersey and many of the local fans jazzed by the fireworks of 2010 were left to wonder exactly what the hell happened to these two heavyweight fireplugs. Gugenishvili, a fighter of such great expectations, was shelved due to injury and lost his momentum among the hard core fans just has international interest was piquing. Garner, on the other hand, went on to ride rough shod through every heavyweight that M-1 had to offer him. Now, with Gugenishvili fully healed, the two titans are about to go at it again.

Garner’s unusual striking style, knockout power, and excellent ground transitions are remarkably similar to UFC fan favorite Roy Nelson. He represents a danger anywhere and the only legitimate threat to Gugenishvili on the M-1 roster.

While it seems odd to talk about an undercard bout as the most important heavyweight clash in M-1 when the main event features flagship fighter Fedor Emelianenko, the circumstances make it true. Emelianenko has announced his intention to retire soon after literally bout since his loss to Fabricio Werdum in 2010, and has made it abundantly clear that his best days are behind him. With a planned retirement so close, it’s unlikely that Emelianenko would want to face one of the young up and comers from a promotion he has a serious financial interest in. So, while Fedor is the headliner, Garner versus Gugenishvili is the important bout.

The winner of this fight will become one of the Ronin in the industry that fans will debate what he could accomplish under the Zuffa banner or in Bellator.

The main card of M-1 Global: Fedor versus Rizzo will start tomorrow at 11 a.m EST. It will broadcast live via The Fight Network in Canada and can be streamed via the M-1 website in the US.

Brian Magee is pleased to have a tough opening defence of his WBA super-middleweight belt against Denmark's Mikkel Kessler in Herning on Saturday.Magee, 37, accepts he could have had easier opponents but is happy to face Kessler whom he describes as "one of the best fighters of the last decade".

"I could have picked an easier fight but I want to reach the highest pinnacle I can in boxing," said Magee.

"The way I see it, you want to be world champion to fight the best out there."Magee says Saturday's title defence is the biggest fight of his career and hopes he will have en even bigger fight to look forward to after facing Kessler.

The winner of Saturday's bout will be in line to fight the WBA's 'super' champion Andre Ward."Without a doubt this is the biggest fight I've had but every fight over the last five fights I've been saying that. If you would have told me in 2004 that I would be fighting Juan Manuel Márquez in 2012 — and for the fourth time — well, I would not have believed it.

But here we are and for a good reason. Our previous three fights have been great; great for us and great for our fans.

Unlike my three fights against Erik Morales, which were fought closer together and at the same weight, Juan Manuel and I have battled each other at three different weight classes and always at important points in our careers. There is a certain feeling of destiny in our rivalry. It was meant to be that we would fight each other four times.

All of my fights with Márquez are important. He is a legend, perhaps the best fighter Mexico has ever produced next to Julio César Chávez. But Márquez does not define my career. My career is defined by many significant victories. World titles in eight different weight divisions and knockouts of Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Ricky Hatton mean as much to my career as my victories over Márquez.

Champions are competitors first and foremost. They want to win. They need to win. I have put everything into this training camp. I know I haven’t fought perfect fights against Márquez in the past and my incentive in this one is to fight the fight I should fight this time. If I do that I will not only win again but put away all doubts in the minds of the fans and Márquez on who is the better fighter. I want everyone to know the old Manny Pacquiao is still alive in the ring. Speed and aggression will be my main weapons and if the knockout presents itself to me I will go for it, as many times as it takes.

What does this fourth fight with Márquez mean to me? It means the chance to author the final chapter of a marvelous story and to look forward to writing a new chapter in my ring life.

There is something special about fighting the same opponent four times. It tells me that the first three fights have been good and competitive enough to merit one more fight. When it is against an elite opponent such as Manny Pacquiao then it’s even more special and more meaningful.

Over the last eight years Pacquiao and I have fought three times and all the fights have gone the distance. And while people say Pacquiao has knocked me down four times over those 36 rounds, they should say three were in the first round of our first fight, and that he has only scored one knockdown in the next 35 rounds, and none in the last 20 rounds while winning at least 26 of the 36 rounds we have fought over those three fights.

So the question for this fourth fight is, “Do I need to knock out Pacquiao to get the win?”

Well, I will certainly try. I also know that while knocking out a fighter like Pacquiao won’t be easy, it’s not impossible either.

I know that I have to be intelligent, fast and strong to beat him. But as we have seen in the first three fights, it is not just up to me to win the fights. It is up to three judges who score the fights. There is no doubt in my mind that I won all three previous fights with my skills and smarts in the ring, but the judges have denied me that victory.

There is not much I can do about the judges. I don’t pick them and I sure don’t know them. I know most have never trained for three months for a fight, most have never gotten in a ring for 12 rounds with the best fighter in the world, and most have no idea what sacrifices we must make to get in the ring and put on the best fight that we can.

I feel that most people believe that I won our last fight very clearly, but the judges did not see it that way; and by the way, I am not only talking about my fights and judges. Look at what happened to Pacquiao against Timothy Bradley. I was ringside for that fight and I felt that Pacquiao won it but the judges took it away from him and that also is not right.

I just want the judges to score the fight in the ring and not what they think is happening in the ring. I don’t care about the three previous fights and how they were scored anymore. All I ask is for a fair judgment, and if I lose, I lose. But if I win, I want my hand raised that night in the ring.

Pacquiao continues to be the best in the world and to finally get a win over him will make me very happy, but don’t judge my career by these four fights. Take a look at all my 61 fights and then decide where I belong in the history of boxing.

One of the classic scenarios in boxing will unfold on Saturday night: a seasoned veteran and a promising up-and-comer battle for a world title. And while many were surprised when Miguel Cotto selected a virtual unknown for his next bout, to Cotto it made perfect sense. “Austin Trout is an undefeated champion who was next in line,” he says. “I respect him for accepting the challenge.”

In many ways, these two men have much in common. Both display admirable personal qualities, are very committed to their families, show great respect for the sport, and fight with precision and technique. Without the controversy and trash talk surrounding most bouts today, this one could seem almost boring to write about. But let’s take another approach and applaud the fact that boxers like Cotto and Trout exist today, bringing the attention back to the ring as opposed to the antics outside of it.

Miguel Cotto is one of the most respected boxers in the world, and rightly so. He has fought countless renowned fighters, including the two most elite names in the sport, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, who cites Cotto as being his toughest opponent ever. While he was clearly off the mark with Pacquiao, his stellar performance against Mayweather solidified his place as a future Hall of Famer.

A brave, determined and highly skilled fighter, Miguel Cotto certainly deserves his place among boxing’s finest. He’s multi-dimensional, using his fierce jab from the outside and masterful bodywork on the inside. Cotto is impressive as the aggressor, but he can also adapt easily to defend himself. His versatility can confuse most any opponent and give him the upper hand, especially in the early rounds. What Cotto lacks, if anything, is speed and movement.

Miguel Cotto’s skill is equally matched by his outstanding character. This was clearly illustrated when he agreed to a rematch with Antonio Margarito in 2011, who had earned a highly controversial “win” over Cotto in 2008 due to illegally plaster-packed hands. Cotto brutalized Margarito the second time around and boxing fans across the world reveled in the fact that justice had been finally served.

Cotto will enter the ring on very familiar turf this Saturday. His history at Madison Square Garden is close to legendary, and he has won the hearts of some of the toughest fans in the world—New Yorkers. There’s no doubt that fighting in Cotto’s “second home” will give him a great advantage. This is a boisterous, loud and enormous crowd that will notoriously cheer every punch that he throws. When asked if he feels pressure to perform in front of a sea of loyal fans, Cotto simply says, “No, I am just going to enjoy the moment.” On the same note, he thinks that the crowd will intimidate Trout and affect his concentration. So, the question is, with Cotto’s experience, technical ability, strength, and the fight taking place in his home away from home, does Trout even stand a chance? I believe that he does. It may be a small chance, but one nonetheless.

Austin Trout is an undefeated southpaw hailing from Las Cruces, New Mexico. He earned his WBA title via a well-deserved win over Rigoberto Alvarez in Alvarez’s hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico in 2011. He is no stranger to hostile territory, earning many of his wins outside of the United States.

Trout is a humble, likeable young man who is as much a fan of the sport as he is a fighter. In fact, he is a fan of Miguel Cotto. When asked about fighting someone who he looks up to, Trout confidently and candidly says that he has “always dreamed of fighting boxers that he admires.” On that list he includes Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr. and Sugar Ray Leonard. He’s also honest to the core, stating, “I want to do things the right way, no façade, no fake, I just want to be me and have the fans embrace me as me.”

Although Trout had a tremendous amateur career and was an alternate for the 2004 Olympics, he has been virtually anonymous as a pro. “I believe the powers that be don’t want me in boxing,” he says. “I had to climb through the window to get in.” Well, the door has now opened and Trout knows that this is his golden opportunity to become a serious contender, and perhaps even a household name.

Trout is known for his defense, counterpunching, and speed. But he’ll need to up his game and become more aggressive to overcome Cotto’s power and astute command of the ring. He admits that he has never faced an opponent like Miguel Cotto and that “a totally defensive fight is not the key to victory.” But Trout has the reach and height advantage, along with speed, so if he uses his strengths wisely and can stay focused amidst the mayhem of the crowd, he has a shot. And there’s nothing in his history to suggest that he won’t be able to handle the gravity of the situation. As my dear friend and boxing aficionado T.O.N.E-z put it, he’s a “calm lion.”

To me, both of these fighters are warriors in their own unique way. Cotto has proven himself time and time again, fighting the best the boxing world has to offer. Trout has had to face an uphill battle in the sport, earning this opportunity, and virtually every opportunity, due to a great amount of determination, faith, and inner-strength.

Both fighters have the ability to bring out the best in each other Saturday night. But I believe that Cotto has much more at stake. For Austin Trout, even stepping into the ring with Miguel Cotto is a victory.

[¬] Roach says “We know how to handle Bradley”

By Chris Williams: Freddie Roach has designed what he feels is the perfect plan to send unbeaten Timothy Bradley to his first defeat on June 9th against Manny Pacquiao.

Like usual, Roach is always talking about coming up with a gem of a plan to lead his fighter to victory. Roach never really says what these plans are, but he’s always speaking about them as if he’s got a map

to buried treasure.

Roach said to the Manila Bulletin “Manny is in a very good place. We have a big game plan and we know how to handle this guy.”

Why on earth is Roach always talking about “we”? He’s not the one that’s going in the ring to get slugged in the head by Bradley, so why is he always saying “We”? I never feel good about people that say “We” when I’m the one doing the work. It just makes me mistrustful of them. Anyway, I don’t get Roach at all. The guy always talks about his grand vision for Pacquiao. He’s always got these schemes that sounds if he’s a genius but then Pacquiao goes out there and looks as crude as a beginning novice in the ring, getting by one speed and power alone, but looking primitive. It just makes me wonder what are these so called plans that Roach is always dreaming up but I’m never seeing in action.

It just looks to me like Roach waves a red handkerchief in front of Pacquiao’s before the fight like he’s a little bull and then he sics him on his opponent. I don’t see any real strategy in Pacquiao’s fights. I just see him going straight at his opponents, trying to overwhelm them with speed and power. Sometimes it works out well for Pacquiao and other times he fails miserably, yet still wins the fight somehow. But I think Roach sounds pretentious with when he talks about having an unbeatable game plan to beat an opponent like Bradley, because I don’t see any game plan with Pacquiao’s fights other than Roach letting him loose on them.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – As Shane Mosley expressed his gratitude and excitement about fighting Saul Alvarez on Floyd Mayweather-Miguel Cotto undercard to a large group of sports media and close to 500 fans at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, an unruly lout from the back of the room yelled out:

“You’re washed up!”

It was a loud and obnoxious outburst from a mean-spirited fan, who probably lacks the guts say it to Mosley’s face.

However, the words were not necessarily untrue. More than a few of the better-behaved fans inside the historic movie theater along Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, where the final leg of the multi-city media tour for the May 5 pay-per-view event took place, share the ill-mannered buffoon’s sentiment.

Many members of the boxing press also agree that Mosley has seen better days.

Mosley (46-7-1, 39 knockouts), a former three-division titleholder who has been a pro for 19 years, is 0-2-1 in his last three bouts. The Southern Californian was dominated by Floyd Mayweather in May of 2010 and embarrassed by Manny Pacquiao last May. Between those one-sided unanimous decision losses, Mosley was held to a split draw by Sergio Mora in an uneventful 12-round bout.

So when news broke that the 40-year-old veteran would face Alvarez, an unbeaten 21-year-old junior middleweight beltholder, on the Mayweather-Cotto undercard, there was a collective groan from hardcore aficionados, who ripped the matchup on Twitter and internet boxing forums.
However, Mosley isn’t letting the harsh criticism bother him.
“I don’t care what those type of fans say,” he said following Thursday’s press conference. “They can say what they want but they have no say on who I am or what I do with my life.

“Fighting is my life. I’ve been doing this for 32 years. I love to do this. I still love to train and spar.”

Mosley says he was in the gym when the prospect of fighting Alvarez, the WBC 154-pound beltholder, was presented to him.

“I’ve been working out, just staying ready for a fight,” he said. “I wasn’t thinking about fighting anyone in particular, I wasn’t thinking about Alvarez until he was brought up. I was just staying in shape while I figured out what my next move was.

“Eric Gomez (matchmaker for Alvarez’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions) contacted my attorney after Alvarez fought (Kermit) Cintron in November to see if I was interested.”

Of course he was.

“It was perfect,” Mosley said. “He’s got a world title and the fight is on a big pay-per-view card. If I beat him I’ll get a belt back in front of the world and I’m back in business.”

That’s a big “if” in the eyes of cynical fans who believe Mosley’s career has been going out of business since his last victory, a sensational ninth-round stoppage of Antonio Margarito in January of 2009.

Mosley doesn’t believe the naysayers are being fair – after all, his recent losses were to the top two boxers in the sport and most observers thought he beat Mora – but he won’t argue with them.

“I gave 100 percent in the ring when I fought Mayweather and Pacquiao, but I wasn’t 100 percent, I wasn’t physically at my best,” said Mosley, who would not divulge what was specifically ailing him – if anything – in both bouts.

“It doesn’t matter what was wrong with me in those fights, all that matters is that I lost. That’s all people see and that’s why I’m the underdog in this fight. But the people who know the whole story, and my fans who still believe in me, know that I can beat Alvarez.”
Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, which is putting on the HBO Pay Per View show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, cited Mosley’s record against boxers of Mexican descent to support the theory that the “old man” is a dangerous foe for Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KOs), a budding star from Guadalajara, Mexico.

“Shane grew up in the gyms of Southern California, where he earned the reputation for beating up Mexicans,” Schaefer said. “He knows how to fight the Mexican style. His record speaks for itself, victories against Oscar De La Hoya twice, Fernando Vargas twice, and Margarito.

“The things people are saying about him now are the same things they said before the Margarito fight and we all know what happened. A legend like Shane is never done.”

Mosley appreciates the support from his former promoter but he doesn’t view Alvarez as “just another Mexican fighter” or an easy win.

“Alvarez is a terrific young champion, and he doesn’t fight like the Mexican fighters I’ve fought,” he said. “Everyone is different in the ring, including Mexicans and Mexican Americans. Oscar didn’t fight like Vargas; Vargas didn’t fight like Margarito; Margarito didn’t fight like Mora. Nobody has the same style.”

Mosley envisions a tough fight, one that will be decided by experience, not styles.

“I spar with young guys all the time and I see the difference in experience now more than I used to,” he said. “I have a lot of respect for Alvarez, but he’s only 21. There’s still a lot that he has to learn. He’s a great talent and I think we’re going to put on a great fight, but I think my experience will be overwhelming.

“I think the people around him made a mistake making this fight. They’re thinking their fighter is going to face the Mosley who fought Mayweather and Pacquiao. They’re wrong. I’m going to be 100 percent for this fight. I’m not sure Alvarez is even thinking about me. He might be thinking about fighting Floyd, which is a young man’s mistake.

“I think they’ve all made a big mistake but we have to get in the ring and duke it out to know for sure if Golden Boy Promotions and Alvarez’s handlers messed up.”

And that’s fine with Mosley. Much of the boxing world may want him out, but he hasn’t lost any passion for fighting or the sport.

“I love what I do,” he said. “I’m going to be in boxing for as long as I live. I know I can’t continue to fight forever, but I’m not going to let any fan or anyone in the media pressure me out of my sport.

“I’m going to be boxing for a few more years, especially if I win on May 5.”

By William Mackay: Unbeaten Darren Barker (20-0, 13 KO’s) will be facing a replacement Danny Butler (18-2, 3 KO’s) on Saturday night for the vacant BBBofC British middleweight title at the Brentwood Centre, Brentwood, Essex. Barker, 27, was supposed to be facing Wayne Elcock, but he pulled out of the fight complaining of a stomach virus. Fortunately, the light hitting Butler was available to step in and take the fight with Barker. Butler, 22, recently was defeated by Darren McDermott in a 10 round decision on November 13th in a failed attempt to win the BBBofC English middleweight title.

Butler is a good fighter with nice hand speed and is good at putting punches together. He defeated the tough but game Paul Samuels by a 10 round Decision in July, and defeated Matt Scriven by a four round decision in June. Butler was defeated by Martin Murray by a three round split decision in November 2008.
Barker is coming off an impressive 4th round stoppage of Darren McDermott in May. Barker knocked McDemott to the canvas in the 4th round with a hard 1-2 combination to the head. The bout was then stopped by referee Dave Parris.

Ola Afolabi vs Marco Huck on December 5th
World Boxing Organization cruiserweight title holder Marco Huck (26-1, 20 KO’s) will be facing interim WBO cruiserweight champion Ola Afolabi (14-1-3, 6 KO’s) on December 5th at the Arena, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Huck, 25, defeated WBO champion Victor Emilio Ramirez by a 12 round decision in August 2009.

Huck looked good against Ramirez, fighting well from both the inside and outside, outworking the champion and showing a great chin by taking Ramirez’s big shots. Ramirez had wore down top cruiserweight contender Alexander Alexeev with a high pressure attack to take the interim WBO cruiserweight tie in January 2009.

However, Huck proved to be immune to Ramirez’s pressure tactics and was able to skillfully move out of the way of Ramirez while continuing to pepper him with jabs and combinations to the head. Huck stood his ground frequently in the fight and got the better of Ramirez at close quarters with powerful shots to the head and body.

Afolabi, 29, defeated Enzo Maccarinelli by an impressive 9th round TKO in March to take the WBO interim cruiserweight title. Afolabi, who likes to fight in spurts, hurt Maccarinelli with a hard shot in the 3rd round while leaning against the ropes. After that, Afolabi took things easy for the next five rounds, mostly lying on the ropes and playing rope-a-dope with Maccarinelli. In the 9th, Afolabi sprung to life again, hurting Maccarinelli with a hard right to the body and then finishing him off with a big right hand to the head that sent Maccarinelli down face first on the canvas where the was counted out.

Afolabi may have a harder time hurting the steel chinned Huck with his shots. Huck can take a lot of punishment and still keep coming forward. This fight will likely come down to Huck outworking Afolabi and grinding out a decision. Afolabi won’t be able to win this fight by landing an occasional pot shot and fighting in spurts. Huck is capable of throwing a lot of punches and keeping his opponents under fire with his hard flurries. Huck has the youth going for him in this fight, the power, work rate and home town advantage.

[¬]Miguel Cotto vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. Live Story Line :-

Fight fans, once again, it's the biggest fight week of the calendar year. With the Cinco De Mayo holiday weekend approaching, that can only mean one thing. We have the biggest pay-per-view star of boxing returning to the ring, Floyd Mayweather Jr., who will be going up back up to 154 pounds to fight Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto for his WBA championship belt.

Some quick updates to get everyone up to speed. Cotto will be earning his highest purse ever, and it has been reported that he will be making around $30 million just for this fight with Mayweather.

Floyd has been uncharacteristically respectful and even praised his opponent Cotto by telling the media that he's a solid, good opponent and should be viewed as undefeated. Floyd notes that Cotto's only two losses were to an alleged loaded Antonio Margarito and to Manny Pacquiao at a catch-weight, which he feels drained Cotto.

Mayweather tends to trash talk his opponents and play mental warfare, making it clear that they are not on his level of talent and skill inside the ring, but for whatever reason, he's going the opposite route for this fight.

Floyd is slated to begin a 90-day jail sentence on June 1, so will this affect his performance in any way?

Mayweather is the big favorite to win at -650, while Cotto is at +475.

Most bettors feel the fight will go at least 10 full rounds at -230.

So now, its time for us to take a look at the so-called boxing experts of the B/R Boxing Community and see what kind of wisdom or expertise they can offer for the rest of the fight fans shall we?

The Margarito rematch proved that Cotto could outbox a shot, damaged goods version of the first man to ever beat him, whose eye was highly in question before the fight even began.

With all that being said, had this Mayweather fight taken place in 2007 at 147 lbs when Cotto was more so still in his prime and still had that killer instinct, then this might have actually been a good fight, but it's now 2012, and this current version of Cotto will get countered all night by the superiorly skilled best boxer on the planet who's already bragging about being 43-0.

History shows us this will most likely go to another comfortably wide decision for Money May. But if you have $200 that you absolutely do not need, then put a $100 on Cotto by KO, for that is the only way Cotto can win.

No one is going to win a decision against Mayweather. At 10-to-1 odds, you will win $1,000. Put another $100 on a draw at 33/1 odds, you will win $3,300. But again, this is if you absolutely do not need this $200, because you will have a better chance seeing the real life non-hologram Tupac Shakur walking down the street first before seeing either of these results happening Saturday night.

[¬] Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson Scheduled for Sat., April 28 Live on HBO!

Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson was a boxing match contested for both the WBC and The Ring light heavyweight championships. The fight took place at Staples Center, Los Angeles, California, United States on 15 October 2011.[1][2] Hopkins was making the first defense of the titles he won from Jean Pascal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada earlier in 2011 while Dawson was looking to win the WBC title for a second time and the Ring title for the first time. The fight was the main event of an HBO pay-per-view presentation.

The fight ended in the second round when Dawson lifted Hopkins, who stumbled, fell, and landed on his shoulder. Referee Pat Russell, seeing Hopkins could not continue, awarded Dawson a technical knockout. The result was contested shortly after the fight, and the WBC declared a technical draw naming Hopkins its champion.[3] On December 13, the California State Athletic Commission, whose results are official and binding, overturned referee Pat Russell's original technical knockout decision and declared the fight a no contest. This ruling makes Hopkins the official champion.[4]

Bernard Hopkins :-
Hopkins fought Pascal in a rematch of a fight that had ended in controversy on 18 December 2010 in Quebec City, Quebec.[5] In that fight, Pascal was making the first defense of the Ring light heavyweight championship he won from Dawson in his last fight and the fourth defense of the WBC title he took from Adrian Diaconu on 19 June 2009. The fight ended in a majority draw, with two of the three judges voting the fight even while the third gave Hopkins the victory.[6]

During the course of the fight Hopkins landed many more punches than the champion (131 to 70 total)[7] and won a unanimous decision despite the referee not counting two potential knockdowns when Pascal's glove touched the canvas. Hopkins won a closer decision due to those calls, but with his victory he broke the record held by George Foreman as the oldest professional boxing champion ever. Hopkins was 46 when he won the fight, beating the old record Foreman set at 45 when he won his second heavyweight championship.[8]

Chad Dawson :-
Dawson also fought on the card for the second contest, which was his first fight since losing a unanimous technical decision to Pascal after the fight was stopped due to Dawson being cut from an accidental clash of heads.[9] Although Dawson had a rematch clause in his contract, he chose not to exercise it[10] and then signed to fight former champion Diaconu with the winner getting the first shot at the winner of Pascal-Hopkins II.[11] Dawson won by unanimous decision over Diaconu to set up the match with Hopkins.

@ Samsung Mobile 500 Live: Story Line!

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series took a week off after a wild race at Martinsville Speedway. This week, the series moves to Texas Motor Speedway for the Samsung Mobile 500.

Texas Motor Speedway is one of the fastest racetracks on the NASCAR circuit. It was tough for NASCAR fans to have a weekend without racing, but a fast Saturday night special in the Lone Star State should more than make up for it.

It was another great week for my team at Martinsville. I started Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brian Vickers in the Yahoo! Fantasy Auto Racing game.

The lineup was good enough for 337 points (1,750 total points for the season) and moved me back up to the top 99 percent of Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing players (Ranked No. 776 overall out of 202,000).

For the Fantasy Live game, I started Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Brian Vickers and Aric Almirola.

My strategy of selecting drivers who would lead many laps in the 500-lap race paid off. My team scored 445 points. Most of my score came from Gordon’s 231 points. My team has 1,517 points for the season, which places me No. 702 overall in the Fantasy Live game.

CHICAGO, Ill. (February 10, 2012) — After a spectacular run through the Bellator Season 5 Bantamweight Tournament, Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas (@Dudantas22) has earned his world title shot. With victories over Wilson Reis, Ed West and the explosive Olympian Alexis Vila, Dantas is just a win away from becoming a World Champion when he battles reigning Bellator Bantamweight world Champion Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky(@ZachFunSize) on Friday, April 13 from Atlantic City’s historic Boardwalk Hall.

Widely regarded as the top bantamweight prospect in the world, Dantas stormed through the Season 5 tournament on his way to a title shot with Makovsky. Only 23 years old, the Nova Uniao product brings an incredibly well-rounded attack to Boardwalk Hall, and only has one thing on his mind.

“I’m here at Bellator to win the Bantamweight Championship,” Dantas said. I plan to not only win the title, but to keep it for many years to come.”

Makovsky enters the cage riding an impressive eight fight win streak, and will look to keep the momentum going in his first career title defense. “Fun Size” currently trains alongside former Bellator Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at the Philadelphia Fight Factory and plans on using his wrestling prowess to dominate Dantas.

“I want to dominate everyone I compete against, but at the same time, I don’t feel like I have to make any kind of statement,” Makovsky said. “I just want to continue getting better and do the best I can every time I enter the cage. I don’t pay attention to the rankings because I feel like that's going to put extra pressure on me. I just look forward to defending my belt on April 13.”

Woods, who has been installed as a 4-1 favourite for the April 5-8 tournament, is scheduled to tee off at 15:35 UK time in the opening round at Augusta National.

Fellow American Phil Mickelson, a three-times Masters winner, will launch his bid for a fifth major title in the company of compatriot Hunter Mahan and Swede Peter Hanson in the final group of the day.

Left-hander Mickelson and his playing partners start at 1:53 p.m. on Thursday.

British world number one Luke Donald, Italy's Francesco Molinari and American Nick Watney will tee off one group after Woods, Jimenez and Bae.

In other groupings, British world number three Lee Westwood will set off with 2000 champion Vijay Singh of Fiji and American Jim Furyk while holder Charl Schwartzel of South Africa has been paired with PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley and U.S. amateur champion Kelly Kraft.

First off at 12:50 UK time, following ceremonial tee shots by golfing greats Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, will be Americans Craig Stadler and Brendan Steele and South African Tim Clark.

Yoshiyuki Nakanishi is only 24 years-old, but the four-time national Sambo champion already has a mixed martial arts (MMA) record of 11-2 and is the reigning DEEP Light Heavyweight titleholder. He is in for the highest profile fight of his entire career when he takes on the heavy-hitting Melvin Manhoef at ONE FC 3 later this month.
Nakanishi holds a win over reigning Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion Christian M'Pumbu and despite having such a strong Sambo background, he has been known to knock opponents out cold with either punches or head kicks. His last win came by stoppage due to soccer strikes so he will relish fighting under the ONE FC ruleset which allows kicks to the head of a grounded opponent.
After spending virtually his entire career competing in Japan, with a 2009 excursion into the Netherlands the sole exception, fighting in front of 7,000 fans at the Singapore Indoor Stadium will be a brand new experience for him and he has every reason to fear the explosive power of his opponent, a K-1 veteran and legendary knock out artist.
However Nakanishi is far from overawed by Manhoef, in fact he feels his stand up will be more than a match for the man who once knocked out UFC heavyweight contender Mark Hunt in less than 30 seconds.
"Not only am I confident that I will be good enough to stand with Manhoef, I think I can KO him. He is a very famous fighter in Japan and I have always loved watching him fight. I’m very happy and honored to fight against the fighter who I admire."
Nakanishi's base is Sambo which stylistically could make him a dangerous opponent for Manhoef whose devastating leg kicks and lightning fast punches are often undermined by a slightly suspect takedown defense and ground game.

Nakanishi claims to be very comfortable fighting on his feet but if he can use his Sambo skills to take the fight to the ground he will be a strong favorite to defeat the experienced Dutchman. He has been studying the stand up game for several years though and says he is much more than just a wrestler.
"Anyone who has seen me fight will tell you that I am not just a Sambo fighter anymore because I have been learning the stand up since the age of 21. You can not win MMA fights with only grappling techniques although I do prefer taking the fight to the ground."
Nakanishi is also 11 years younger and feels this is another factor which could play into his favour against a fighter who in 34 MMA fights has never experienced a third round.
"I feel that the longer the fight goes on the more I will be at an advantage but I have finished fights in the first round myself seven times so why should I wait? I can definitely knock him out in round one and if he thinks that I would need a takedown to do it maybe he will be surprised. I want to strike and grapple because I can win with both."

The fight will be taking place at a catchweight of 88 kgs (193.6 lbs) and although Nakanishi won the Deep Light Heavyweight tournament at 205 lbs and holds the title at that weight he has been as low as 185 lbs in the past. Many feel that his long term future is in the middleweight division but for the time being he is happy competing at 205 lbs.
"I’d like to defend my Deep title and keep fighting at light heavyweight division but I want the ONE FC light heavyweight belt too. I'm really excited to be fighting for ONE FC, it's an honor to fight on such a big stage against such a great fighter."
