Hello All,
Due to the lack of initiative in leadership regarding the Tesla Club, it was not registered as an organization this school year. If anyone would like to step up and renew it, they will have to submit the forms all over again. I have copies somewhere if anyone wants to take it upon themselves.
I do know that the leadership team has stepped down due to the intense IEEE involvement this school year since the Student Activities Conference (SAC) is coming to YSU this coming April 18th. If you would like to join IEEE, the next meeting is Wed Oct 15th at 4p.m. in Room 3040. There is a contest going on right now for shirt ideas. There will be a vote on who has the best shirt idea, and they will win a gas gift card! You must pay your $5 dues to be eligible.

Hello Everyone,
So here's an update for the summer. Thanks to the IEEE having the Students Activities Conference (SAC) at Youngstown State University next spring, fundraising for the Telsa Club has been overshadowed by fundraising for IEEE. So, the trip to D.C. (as much as everyone would loved to have gone!) is cancelled. Unless anyone else can come up with the money! i know..."hahaha." Dr. Jalali has been really pusing the SAC planning to be done, so I don't have anytime at all to do some planning for the Tesla Club. I was thinking of stepping down do to all the stress IEEE is already causing, if someone is will to carry the banner for the Tesla Club. If anyone would like for a revote this fall, I'd be open to it. Thanks and I hope you are having a great summer!

We will be having (probably) our last formal Tesla meeting on Monday 4/27 in the typical location. Next meeting after that will probably be in fall of '08.

Also some video of our match plasma. I still think its kind of cheating, but it works until we can get the antenna working.

Meeting 4/14

Hi All!
So for today's meeting we went over the trip to d.c. For 4 rooms and 4 people to a room, the price was about $1,500. We also went over fundraising ideas. Jason and Jerrod had a good idea but it's going to be tough. They brought up the idea of a golf outing. Right now they are getting prices for how much that will cost. Freddy and Zack thought up an idea for the fall by having a barbecue outside of moser.

Also, candidates for the 2008-2009 school year were determined and are as follows:

Since no one else wants to run, we will have an election for the spot for treasury. Elections will be held April 28th. Please show up because we will be finishing up the ball lightning and may be presenting our first solid state tesla coil! Also, we will be doing a continuing count for the trip to d.c. so please be there!

Next Monday's meeting is canceled due to the Integration Bee so have fun!

Meeting- March 31st

Hi Everyone!
Don't forget about our meeting tomorrow at 5. I will be doing roll-call to get everyone's contact information so I can give it to Pansino and all members of our cabinet. Plus, I will (hopefully) be handing out the Tesla Club's constitution to every member. If you are in any Pansino classes, you can put this in your learning journal, plus write a tidbit on what you have learned and/or done in the club. Pansino will love that stuff!

Meetings on Mondays

Our meetings will now be held on Monday nights at 5PM. We'll be having our first meeting Monday Feb. 24th at 5PM in room 3040. If we're not there, check the RF lab. We've got a microwave now for the ball lightning experiment, so we'll probably be doing that.

Old TESLA Meetings

I figured I'd put together a quick summary of what the TESLA club has done in the past. So here's a few images and videos, along with a quick explanation of what they are.

This is one of Mark Barlow's awesome Tesla coils.

This is a picture of Mark's Megavolt Coil. Yep, thats megavolt, as in one million volts. Its about as big around as a trash can. We didn't fire it because we couldn't find a good safe place to use it. Somewhere I've got an image of it in use, but I'll have to find it. Theoretically, it could go even higher than one megavolt with a little tweaking. We're talkin' six foot arcs here...

These are two of our smaller coils. These little things are fun, because they're small, relatively safe, and still put out a few hundred thousand volts.

Yes, that is a microwave door, and yes the bright white spot is ball lightning. We'll be replicating this pretty early, so show up to our meeting on Wednesday the 20th for meeting information.

Here you can see a video of the ball lightning in a microwave. The camera is tipped to the side to fit it in correctly, so the top is on the left side of the video.

In this video, you can see one of our two-point Tesla coils, which use two electrodes instead of a standard toroidal electrode.

First Meeting

The first meeting of the YSU TESLA Club will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 5:00 PM in room 3040 of Moser Hall on the YSU campus. At this meeting, we will be discussing future plans, organization and administration, and possible projects. If you can make it, post a comment to this message so we can get an idea as to how many people we'll have.
