SmarterFox adds a "related articles" sidebar to the left side of Wikipedia.

The qLauncher allows you quickly visit your favorite webpages. To invoke the qLauncher press Ctrl-Space. If you are using a Mac or Ubiquity, you might need to change the shortcut since Ctrl-Space might already be in use. (Do so by going to Tools -> SmarterFox). After the qLauncher panel is open simply press another key to open the corresponding site. qLauncher's settings integrate right into Firefox's bookmark system so it will be backed up alongside your other bookmarks if you use something like Xmarks. The bookmarks for qLauncher are included in the folder named "qLauncher" on your bookmarks menu. To add a bookmark to qLauncher simply click on the + button on the qLauncher itself or copy it into the folder. To assign a shortcut key, tag the bookmark with "qlauncher:k" where k is the key you want to use. You do not have to do this however: qLauncher can pick one for you automatically. If you find the bookmark folder obtrusive you can disable the qLauncher and delete it.

I have recently backup-ed the Windows XP installation files from the hidden partition in Acer Aspire One called PQSERVICE.

Software used: Macrium Reflect

Steps:
1. Download the free version of Macrium Reflect and install it.
2. Run Macrium Reflect, let it analyse your drive and then right-click on the listed PQSERVICE partition (it's not hidden to this tool!)
3. Choose the "Create Image of '1 - PQSERVICE'" option.
4. Save the partition/Burn the partition into a disc.
5. An image of your hidden WinXP partition will now be saved.

What do the numbers in my modem statistics mean and are my stats good?
A: Most modems and routers have the ability to monitor line statistics. Some modems have very detailed monitoring while others may only show basic information.

Although what is monitored and the exact name may be different depending on manufacturer, the overall information is the same. Below are some of the common terms and measurements used to judge line quality. Remember these are not hard numbers but simply a generalization of line statistics:

Attainable Line Rate (AKA Synch Rate)
This is the maximum rate at which your modem can connect to the DSLAM if there was no service provisioning limiting the bandwidth. Anything over 2,000Kbps is considered good. The higher the number the better.

Used Line Rate
Your Used ATM Rate (actual service rate) plus bandwidth to cover the overhead and provisioning of the service.

DSL Rate
Your provisioned ATM Rate (actual service rate) plus bandwidth to cover the overhead and provisioning of the service.

Relative Capacity (AKA Line Capacity)
Percentage of your overall available bandwidth used to obtain your service ATM rate. For example; if your max line synch rate was 5888Kbps and you were provisioned on a 1472Kbps service you would be using 25% capacity. 1472/5888=25% capacity. The lower the relative capacity the better, but you can still get maximum speeds (although a less stable connection) even with a very high relative capacity. In other words you could be synching at 1472Kbps with 98% relative capacity and achieve maximum speeds, but you may experience more disconnects.

SNR Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving* can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
> 6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
> 7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
> 11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
> 20dB-28dB is excellent
> 29dB or above is outstanding

Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
> 20dB and below is outstanding
> 20dB-30dB is excellent
> 30dB-40dB is very good
> 40dB-50dB is good
> 50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
> 60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

Output or TX Power
How much power modem (upstream) or DSLAM (downstream) is using. Maximum recommended is about 15dB. The lower the power the better for this measurement.

CRC Errors (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
CRC is a method of detecting errors in data transmission. A high CRC count in inself is not really cause for alarm. However, any increase in CRCs after your initial connection is established is a problem and usually points to a physical issue somewhere.

This is a tutorial to fix the windows sidebar when it cannot start. Only for windows vista.

If your sidebar cannot start and it do not display any message when you run it, you may try this:

1. Run cmd.exe. To do this, you can make a search for "sidebar" in the start menu and Windows Sidebar will shows up. Make sure you run it as administrator by right clicking on the Windows Sidebar and click run as administrator.
2. Enter cd "\Program Files\Windows Sidebar"
3. Enter regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
4. Enter regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
5. Enter regsvr32 atl.dll
6. Enter regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
7. Enter regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll
8. Your sidebar may work now, try run your sidebar.

This is a guide for bloggers who use Blogger.com.

1. Log on to Blogger.com.
2. Go to Settings of your blog.
3. Go to Permissions tab.
4. Click on the Add Author button.
5. Enter the person's email and click Invite.
6. The person should now receive your email to join your blog as a author. Wait for his/her to accept.
7. If you are going to add the person as a author only, you may stop here. Else, continue.
8. Go back to Settings > Permissions.
9. Click on the Grant admin privileges beside the person name.
10. The person should now be your blog's admin. You may remove the person simply by clicking on Remove or revoke his/her admin privileges by clicking on Revoke admin privileges.

QuickTime 7.x Annoyance

Argh! "Error 46: Could not find or load activex control" again!? Wtf!!

Many people has faced this problem when using QuickTime Player version 7.x.
I faced this problem too and I has spent many hours to look for the solution..

I would like to help the other people that faced this problem too.

The following solution is obtained from GerGer.com.
Quicktime 7.x installed under Windows XP (admin account). It worked, installing updates, too. After upgrading the system (no clean install) to Windows Vista Business (same admin account/UAC off) Quicktime still worked. Hoped to fix some smaller issues with the newest Quicktime 7.1.5 Update.

BOOM!The Application didn't start any longer. Giving an error message saying "Error 46: Could not find or load activex control" (only the browser plugin worked fine). Uninstalling/Reinstalling didn't help. Apple's installation package installs Quicktime in such a way that it only functions at all under the actual account you were logged into when you installed it. The Upgrade from XP to Vista with the new User Account Control (even when turned off) messed up things here, the problem: you can't even correctly uninstall Quicktime in this state. (Update Jul 2008: Since the first Vista-capable release 7.2 of Quicktime, a fresh install on Vista should work smoothly. But once you've 'infected' your registry with an older version of QT that's not Vista compatible, then all subsequent installs will give you the Error 46.) A similar problem is described here. But the fixes didn't work for Vista. But based on Bazm's post there, I came up with the following solution for Vista to reset necessary registry key permissions:

The solution: There is an old NT utility called SubInAcl.exe that can be used to reset permissions in Windows XP and also in Vista.

Step 1: Vista's User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled for these steps to work (Control Panel -> Turn User Account Control Off). You may enable UAC back on after these steps. And you should run this as admin.
Step 2: Download subinacl.msi from Microsoft and install it.
Step 3: Download GerGer's modified version of reset.cmd from here from here and save the file in 'C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools'.
for Vista 64-bit: to 'C:\Program Files (X86)\Windows Resource Kits\Tools'
Step 4: Open Command Prompt (press the Windows Start button and type CMD) and type the following without quotes (hit Enter):
'cd c:\program files\windows resource kits\tools'
for Vista 64-bit: 'cd c:\program files (X86)\windows resource kits\tools'
Step 5: Now type 'reset.cmd' and hit Enter (without quotes)
You will see the Command Line Tool running for some seconds. The issue should have been fixed and Quicktime should run again.

Many viruses will attack your computer by using autorun. Therefore, the best method to prevent viruses is to stop the autorun.

The way is as shown below:
Hold "Shift" when you plug in your removable memory to prevent your computer from running autorun.
You may release "shift" after a few seconds.
And the autorun will be terminated.

You may scan your removable memory now.

You may also only delete the autorun file.
The autorun file is named autorun.inf and is located in the root folder.

2. Right click on your removable memory in My Computer.
3. Search for autorun.inf.
4. Delete it from your removable memory.

Here, I wanna teach you how to open Command Prompt(CMD) direct from a folder or desktop. By using this way, the directory of CMD will be changed to the directory where you open it and therefore it is easier for you to run a program from a specific folder.

However, it works only with Windows Vista.

The steps are as below and it is simple:
1. Right click on the place you want to open the CMD.
2. Then, click on "Open Command Window Here".

In internet browsers such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, there are some shortcuts that may makes your job easier.

1.
Typing "www" and "com" is very tired for a person who surfing the net for whole day, there is a way to solve this problem.
At the address bar, after you key in some words, press CTRL + Enter, "www." will be added in front of the words and ".com" will be added at the back of the words and it will goes to the address.
For example,
If you key in "google" and after you press CTRL + Enter, your internet browser will browse to www.google.com . By using this method, you may save up your time.

2.
What will you do if you want to open a link in a new tab?
If you want to do it without right click on the link and press "Open link in a new tab", there is an alternative way and yet it is simpler.
Move your mouse cursor(pointer) to the link, then press the middle button on your mouse(not available for some mouse) and the link will be opened in a new tab! So simple.

3.
To close a opened tab...
What else the middle mouse button can do? It can be used to close a opened tab too~
By using the same way for open a link in a new tab, move your mouse cursor(pointer) to the tab you want to close, then press the middle button on your mouse(not available for some mouse) and the tab will be closed. Useful for a person who likes to open many many many many tabs like me. Haha.

ShoutMix: TimeZone

Many Bloggers faced a same problem when using ShoutMix, which is

"The TIMEZONE is INCORRECT!..."

To change the timezone to Malaysia Time(GMT+8), follow these steps:

First, Login to ShoutMix.

Next, Go to Settings > Display > "Date&Time"

Below the "Adjustment", there is a timezone setting.

Choose "Asia/Malaysia" Under the setting.

NOTE: DO NOT SET TO GMT+8, IT MAY DISPLAY THE TIME INCORRECTLY.

Finally, Just save the settings.
