Raspberry Pi $25 Dollar PC On A USB Stick! 700MHz ARM11, 128MB RAM, HMDI, USB, Ubuntu!

Game developer David Braben has developed a $25 PC, in a USB stick with a HDMI port on one end and a USB port on the other. The hardware inside is a 700MHz ARM11 processor with 128MB of RAM, together with 1080p graphics output and Linux operation.

David Braben is a moderately famous game developer from the United Kingdom, and the man behind UK studioFrontier Developments who have released the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, Thrillville, Lost Winds, and Kinectimals. However, he is probably most well known as the co-developer of Elite.

Operation of the computer is simple, with users simply having to plug a monitor in one end of the USB stick and a keyboard into the other. Storage is catered for by an SD card slot, and other external modules can also be added.

The software used could be any of a wide range of Linux distributions, although the unit is likely to ship with the popular Ubunto distribution. This will provide a great deal of functionality for very little money, including web browsing, office applications, and much more.

When you consider the fact that this computer will fit in your pocket, this is a pretty cool innovation. This $25 PC is going to be distributed through a new charitable foundation called the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and will also be used as way to promote and teach computer science in schools.

The low cost of this machine is also likely to inspire use in developing and undeveloped parts of the world. Braben says that he hopes distribution will begin within 12 months.

If you’d asked us yesterday which Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet we were most excited about, we’d probably have said Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1, or maybe its smaller 8.9 sibling. Now we’re not so sure. SlashGear caught up with ASUS today for the official launch of the Eee Pad Transformer, the company’s 10.1-inch Tegra 2 tablet that can be optionally paired with a detachable, battery-toting keyboard dock. Announced back at CES 2011, and promptly lost amid the flurry of similar slates, it turns out that ASUS could well have a winner on its hands. Read on for our first-impressions.At $400, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer has the lowest price of any Honeycomb tablet. Also, its high-quality screen and relatively cheap keyboard/dock make it an attractive option.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is what we’ve been waiting for – a tablet that can truly replace a netbook or ultra-portable laptop. With the keyboard disengaged, it’s a slim, fairly light tablet with a great screen and touchscreen. With the dock in-tow, it’s a typing demon whose battery will outlast almost any laptop you can find.
We’ve heard a fair amount of rumors and speculation about the impending release of ASUS’ latest and, perhaps, craziest new slates, and now its giving us the real details — for the UK at least. The wildly unique Eee Pad Transformer, the first of its kind rocking Honeycomb, is up for pre-order now, with an official release date of April 6th and a price of £379 for the 16GB version and £429 for the 32GB version, each on its lonesome — you can get the 16GB iteration with the docking keyboard for £429 . Its less flashy companion, the Eee Slate EP121, sporting Windows 7 and an Intel Core i5 processor, hits Britain April 10th for £999, and is ready for pre-order exclusively through Amazon UK through May 1st. Unfortunately, we’re still not sure when they’ll cross the pond or how much they’ll cost when they get here, but we’re still fairly certain the Transformer’s coming sometime next month.

A hotly anticipated smartphone with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, a “Super” 4.3-inch screen, and a manufacturer-skinned version of Android 2.3 — we must be talking about the Samsung Galaxy S II, right? Not on this occasion, squire. Today we’re taking a gander at HTC’s Sensation, a handset that’s just begun shipping in Europe under a short-term Vodafone exclusive and which should be making its way to T-Mobile in the USA early next month. By beating its stablemate the EVO 3D and Moto’s Droid X2 to the market, the Sensation becomes the world’s first 4.3-inch smartphone with qHD resolution, while also serving as the debut phone for HTC’s Watch movie streaming service and Sense 3.0 UI customizations. That leaves us with an abundance of newness to review, so what are we waiting for?
