There would be no secrets if all chairs were designed like this mood chair, it has been created by Aether and Hemera who are designers based here in the UK, cool!

The chair changes colour to its surroundings, how it works is a secret but all I know is that if I was sitting in it the colours would alternate between blue and red!

Inside the chair there are sensors and micro chips connected to LED’s, this is how the colour is created and so it would be great as an interview chair!

Canon EOS 7D Essentials Review!

For those of you looking to get a Canon EOS 7D as a present for someone else, you might want get the all of the following accessories and the camera itself to make it complete. After purchasing a Canon EOS 7D myself, I find that these are essential for the DSLR camera:

First of all, don’t forget the camera body and standard lens combo, which is a pretty good deal. – Canon EOS 7D + 28-135mm zoom lens

Second, you will need a CompactFlash card in order to take photos and videos. I highly suggest the fastest and biggest compact flash on the market, the SanDisk 16gb 60MB/s. I have heard other slower CF cards causing frozen videos and other headaches. The 16GB will allow you to take around 3 million photos or 30 minutes of Full HD 1080P video. In my testing, this single CF card provided plenty of shoots/videos.

Also, get the 72mm UV Haze filter. Not only does this filter out most of the UV rays, this is a small investment for your camera lens as it will protect against scratches and dust.

As additional protection from sun rays and also accidental drop of your Canon EOS 7d, get the Lens Hood, definitely worth it.

I bought an extra battery but in my testings, the Canon EOS 7D battery does well so it’s up to you to get an extra battery. (Battery is the same as the one on Canon 5D Mark II)

For carrying your DSLR and up to a 17-inch laptop, I got this Tamrac 3385 photo laptop backpack. It’s sorta bulky but I find it a great disguise as it looks like a student’s backpack plus I can carry a full-length zoom lense attached to the DSLR, and room for extra lenses. If you just need a camera bag, try the messenger bags from SlingShot.

Also, get this $100 50mm F/1.8 camera lens that will let you take super-crisp photos. I know you already got the zoom lens but this one will do those awesome, crisp photos/videos that your zoom lens can’t for a bit more.

Lastly, don’t forget to get a durable, strong tripod, I recommend any of Manfrotto tripods.

Well, I think those are all the Canon EOS 7D essentials for starters who don’t own Canon lenses already or just starting out with DSLRs.

iPhone Launching in Korea!

iPhone will be launching in Korea (finally) soon on KT Telecom’s 3G network. I am not sure how well the iPhone will do in Korea, especially since KT telecom actually has launched WiBro/WiMax service back in 2006r. Certainly, competing against other WiMax-enabled smartphones from Samsung and LG will be a tough task as iPhone might be literally competing against smartphones that can already broadcast live TV, play DivX HD movies, browse the web at warp-WiMax speeds and a whole list of customized GUIs.

My initial thought is that iPhone has little chance of succeeding in the South Korean market and I know that market pretty well since I lived there couple years ago.

Why has it taken so long for iPhone to emerge in Korea? Well, answer is simple, Korean government has been careful to introduce foreign products so they won’t monopolize the Korean businesses ever since the 50s after WW II. It’s not surprising it took years before iPhone shipped to Korea, perhaps a bit too late.

South Korea is one of the last of the Asian Pacific countries to offer the iPhone, which was launched in China last month and Japan last year, and is already on sale in India and Australia. In fact the iPhone is now available in 86 countries across the globe.

Part of the reason for the delay in making the iPhone available in South Korea was due to regulations surrounding the location based services the iPhone offers.

Under South Korean law, any business offering location based services such as maps and direction finders has to obtain permission from the government first.

I know Apple fanboys will hate me for saying the truth but the truth is, introducing iPhones to Korea “now” is like selling pagers to a country who are already enjoying cellphones.

South Koreans in general are not too interested in Apple products, rather Windows for the last decade or as far as I can remember since 1989 when I got my first dip into computers. This is another fact why Mozilla Firefox fails to be popular as here in America than Windows Internet Explorer. Well, I won’t get into details of this topic, let me save it for another blog post. Think of it this way, Bill Gates is still GOD while Steve Jobs is a NOBODY as far as most local South Koreans know. It’s rather a hard sell to a group of people who have been loyal to non-Apple products for decades, not to mention the hundreds of new smartphones Samsung and LG introduce in South Koreans every year that never even see a day in the U.S.

Perhaps if Apple had about a hundred different iPhones to choose from, that might be an interesting story to write about.

Just don’t expect miracles and I bet you, I am right.

Things do appear to get smaller, but once they reach, a certain level they seem to go large again as we have experienced with cell phones.

However, the Mp3 just seems to get smaller and smaller, until they have reached this size.

It is tiny and yet has a massive 4 Gb amount of memory all in that tiny little space.

INSTRUCTIONS

•Copy MP3 files to the Micro Sport by connecting it to a computer with the included USB cable. You will see it mount as a USB hard drive. Simply copy the files over.

•Charge the Micro Sport by connecting it to a computer with the included USB cable.

•To turn on the device hold down the circular button on the side for 5 seconds. The blue LED will flicker and flash on and off when power is on.

•To choose the next or previous track, push the small buttons on the top of the unit. One button is next, the other previous

•To change the volume, push and hold down one of the small buttons on the top. The volume will change. Release your finger when the desired volume has been reached. One button is volume up, the other volume down.

How many times do you throw loose change into a pot or some other receptacle only to get really fed up when you have to count it all, just to see how much is in there?

Well this money bank, actually keep account of all the cash that passes through the slot, so you will always know exactly how much is in there, I wonder if the bank will take you word for it?

Mozilla Firefox Quickly Gaining the Browser Market and Doing Well in Recession!

Mozilla, the company behind my favorite web browser Firefox, is quickly gaining in the browser market (especially here in the U.S.) and reportedly, doing very well in recession:

Mozilla has published its audited financial statements from 2008, reporting $78.6 million in revenue for the fiscal year—a five percent increase from 2007. Aside from a weakened investment portfolio, the browser maker has not been hit hard by the economic recession.

I don’t think Mozilla will be impacted much by recession mostly because their business in the internet/search arena, plus they have been gaining more market share of the browser market over the last couple years. (while Microsoft is losing the browser war with its slow Internet Explorer)

I think in the end (or in another 10 years), Google’s Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will still be around (at least in the U.S.) while Microsoft’s Internet Explorer becomes obsolete (I hope so). I truly wish Microsoft only focused on making operating systems and leave the browser market to Google and Mozilla.

I support open source, which both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are, while MS IE is not. Duh! Perhaps if MS goes open source one day, I might change my mind about using IE again.

Some view the emergence of Google’s Chrome Web browser as a potential risk to Mozilla’s long-term sustainability, because the organization depends heavily on revenue from the search giant to fund its operations. There is no immediate risk, however, as Google recently committed to extending its contract with Mozilla to 2011. Although Google’s browser is gaining traction, the search giant still has plenty of incentive to pay for privileged placement in Firefox, which has considerably higher marketshare. According to Baker, the competition is a win for the open Web.

Dragon Skin Bullet-Proof Armor Identifies Bullets!

Here’s some rather interesting information on bullet-proof armor called Dragon Skin that uses electrical current generated by bullet hits to identify the size of bullets and perhaps more.

Smart armor being developed by scientists and engineers at U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center in Michigan can not only predict its own failure, but also identify the size of bullets shot at it and even generate electrical power upon impact.

Piezoeletric sensors are used for measuring the voltage generated by the bullets:

Each plate of armor, whether its wrapped around a soldier’s body or a vehicle’s chassis, has two piezeoelectric sensors attached to it.

An electric current flows into one sensor and turns it into mechanical energy in the form of a tiny vibration that ripples through the armor plate. The other piezoelectric device takes that mechanical vibration and turns it back into electrical energy.

For those of you looking to make your own T-shirts with a re-usable printing screen for multiple T-shirts, you might want to look into this great DIY that shows you how to make your own T-shirt printing screen.

I will actually be pursuing this method as I have been searching for something better than using my inkjet printer and iron-on papers, which hardly make great T-shirts. (They seemed to rub off too easily after couple washes, especially for photos.)

you can use your screen print over and over and over again. make sure to wash the ink of the screen when you are done or it won’t work anymore.

i really enjoyed doing this project. this was my first DIY screen print so it was pretty much an experiment from the start. i felt very accomplished when i was finished.

Here’s a rather interesting story of Panasonic being #1 in the world in cordless phones. Will they live through another decade being #1 in cordless phones? Probably, cordless phones will still be around since phone jacks will still be used even with digital lines starting to take over the world. It ain’t like pagers becoming obsolete when cellphones became available to the masses or is it?

One thing for sure, it ain’t nothing to brag about if you are not #1 in cellular telephones, perhaps they are just trying to spam Google for #1 position in cordless telephones.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Panasonic makes great electric shaves, perhaps they should focus more on those.

Here’s a rather interesting way to launch your own personal satellite into orbit using Interorbital System’s TubeSat Personal Satellite Kit. For a price of $8,000, you get a basketball-sized tube and launch to 192 miles above earth into “low orbit”. You could easily do space imaginary of earth, videos, and anything you can fit in the TubeSat. They won’t stay in orbit for more than couple months and will burn up (due to the lower earth orbit) but still, this could be a fun way to test your space technology.

For one, I can see myself equipping the TubeSat with a bunch of digital cameras to take photos/videos of earth. There’s also CubeSat run by CalPoly, you might want to check out too.

Planet Earth has entered the age of the Personal Satellite with the introduction of Interorbital’s TubeSat Personal Satellite (PS) Kit. The new IOS TubeSat PS Kit is the low-cost alternative to the CubeSat. It has three-quarters of the mass (0.75-kg or 1.65-lb) and volume of a CubeSat, but still offers plenty of room for most experiments or applications. And, best of all, the price of the TubeSat kit actually includes the price of a launch into Low-Earth-Orbit on an IOS NEPTUNE 30 launch vehicle. Since the TubeSats are placed into self-decaying orbits 310 kilometers (192 miles) above the Earth’s surface, they do not contribute to the long-term build-up of orbital debris. After operating for a few months (the exact length of time on orbit is dependent on solar activity), they will safely re-enter the atmosphere and burn-up. TubeSats are designed to be orbit-friendly. Tripods are probably one of the most important a photographer must have and if you already own a regular tripod but need a static one that doesn’t need changes in height (for example for a studio), you might want to look into building your own wooden tripod. Of course, this DIY wooden tripod isn’t going to make you look professional but it could be a great way to make custom-height tripods without spending a couple hundred bills on commercial ones.

Tripod for camera, if you have a camera and want to take good pictures in which you can be in the picture, a good solution is to ask that someone take the picture or you can make a robot that you take the picture, in my case I made a tripod who held the camera, this is made of wood by the facility and the incursion of the hinges, but if you have other more material at hand, you can do it and cover it with black tape or paint to improve its presentation. It’s great for taking those photos timer has very good stability and reaches the average height of three feet!, So get to work

One of these days when I own my own house, I will surely build my own backyard deck. (and document every step on this blog) But for those of you lucky enough to own your house and don’t have a deck (rather just cement), see this great article on how to build a backyard deck.

Pretty nice, eh? Two hard winters and one backyard wedding later, it still looks great. Even though the dogs have worn a path down the middle of it while charging daily from the kitchen to the back of the garden to have some stern words with the neighbour’s cat. Oh well, nothing a liberal application of decking oil won’t fix.

Looking for a great Christmas gift for your whiz kid? Here’s a great DIY that shows you how to make a solar powered ball robot. Of course, there exactly isn’t a kit for this but all the parts are easily findable so it might actually work better than any other gift you can buy off the shelf.

This technology of using minimal electronics and simple mechanical design is call BEAM robotics.

The Miniball itself was originally invented by Richard Weait of North York, Toronto.The Miniball is a amazing robot – it uses a simple circuit and the robot itself proves to be very capable, rarely getting stuck. The Miniball is mechanically complex and electronically simple. (But don’t worry – the mechanical part is still pretty easy)

In this case, we aren’t going to build the original Miniball, but a smaller, more basic wannabe version. This robot is extremely simple and can take a beginner less than 2 hours to build.

For those of you trying to beat cold in snow, here’s how to make re-usable hand-warming heat gloves using rice as inserts that can be heated via microwave. I can tell you from growing up in the snow in Korea during winters that hand-warming heat gloves can come in super handy on those short trips outside the house.

Place the gloves in your microwave and heat for a few seconds. Microwaves vary, so experiment with yours to see what amount of time and what power level work best. The gloves should feel warm but not hot to the touch. When you have your hands in them, the heat will be trapped against your palms and feel quite a bit warmer, so heat your gloves a little less than you think you need to.
