Recently, I’ve stopped using Adobe reader simply because it’s slow and for GoogleDocs does a great job of letting you view PDF files much quicker than Adobe reader.

So, how do you open every PDF file you find online with GoogleDocs?

So long as the PDF file exists online, you can simply use GoogleDocs viewer and paste in the URL of the PDF you want to view.

Another great way to do this automatically is to get the gPDF add-on for your firefox and Chrome.

A lot of times you will find yourself on your friend’s computer or a public computer that doesn’t have Adobe reader installed. Instead of messing with fussy installation programs, just use GoogleDocs Viewer.

The point of this bracket vs. directly mounting the flash the umbrella adapter? It’s simple – the optical wireless sensor remains unobstructed. For instance, when using my ProKit softbox, the wireless sensor on the Speedlite is blocked, so getting the pre-flash signal to it is a challenge. But with this bracket, the softbox goes on, and the sensor is lying back there free and clear, able to be rotated 360 around the cold shoe in order to best “see” the master flash.

For those of you in tech industry and you want a really cool business card, take a look at this “electric” business card that can be used as a mini-size LED flashlight.

The author Aaron Alai is a graduate student but I think with this kind of creative skills, getting a job should be a piece of cake. Better yet, I would recommend him to setup his own shop to sell these electric business cards and make a million bucks, what do you think?

It’s on the site because I designed the business card to be a type of small interactive exhibit, the card is a demonstration on how transistors work. The user can also experimentally use the card in different environments to see the effects the environment has on transistor circuits. Transistors amplify current. Let’s take a moment to define current; in our definition current will be flowing though a wire. In a simplified way current is the number of electrons (the particles of atoms that flow through the wire) that pass though a cross section of wire within a given amount of time. Current is measured in amps, and one amp is equal to about 6.24*10^18 (or about 6,240,000,000,000,000,000 electrons; this also gives you an idea as to how small electrons are) electrons passing through our cross section of wire in one second. One amp is relatively a lot of electrons, to put it in perspective your home outlets will only let you use 15 amps.

To begin with I cut a section of jewellers wax, ( a special wax that has great properties for cutting, sawing and carving) into the basic ring shape. I created a hole the same size required for the finished ring.

The equipment I used; A test tube rack I built myself, test tubes, a beaker, a galvanometer, a resistor, crocodile clips on wires and a Light Emitting Diode.
The electrical cell’s construction was based on the voltaic pile invented by Alesandro Volta in 1800, it consists of zinc and copper electrodes immersed in an electrolyte, or beer.

For those of you with jailbroke iPhones, you might be interested in the new iDongle, a DIY stand-alone device that will allow your jailbroke iPhone to tether boot when you iPhone runs out of batteries or resets due to a software bug.

A neat little device I’d say. I am sure the author can extend the functionality to even jailbreak an iPhone in the future. These are on limited productions as it seems now but may become more popular among iPhone hackers soon.

If your jailbreaked device is stuck into “recovery mode” (i.e Connect-to-iTunes logo) each time you restart or reboot your device, then it may be usefull for you =)

Remember that this replacement battery DIY will help those who have been getting shorter times with your iPhone battery but probably won’t help any of you who have new iPhones. And it won’t help the fact that you can’t switch the battery while you actually need to, perhaps when you are in the bus and whatnot.

But for those of you who don’t want to void your warranty, you can try various different external battery options for the iPhone.

As for me, I will stick with my Nexus One and Palm Pre, both of which can switch batteries in about 5 seconds each. Don’t get jealous.

The crux of this Instructable is to create a platform for attaching STUFF to skis without modifying the skis or bindings. In essence take a 2X4 and create a ski boot shape out of it to mount into the binding as a boot normally would.

DSLR Hack – How to Build a Nintendo DS DSLR Camera Controller!

I know that DSLR camera controllers can come in handy when it comes to shooting photos period but do you really want to spend hundreds of dollars on commercial camera controllers that come with presets that you cannot change?

There’s a hack for that, you can build yourself a Nintendo DS DSLR camera controller. You will first have to start by making a DIY interface cable but once that’s done, you can take advantage of the free open-source Arduino code that will let your new DS DSLR camera controller work flawlessly with any of the homebrew DSLR programs found here.

There are two main components to this system. The first is a hardware system for which we specified some desired functionality: It needed to be user programmable, have an eight hour battery life, and fit in a jeans pocket. We were tired of lugging a laptop up ladders or into the narrow spiderweb of walkways above a soundstage. It was always our plan to build our own system using a programmable microcontroller and LCD system (which is what Promote eventually ended up creating), but a more flexible method occurred to us.

For those of you out there applying your circuitry skills for gardening and yo need a bunch of moisture-sensing soil sensors, you might want to try making your own moisture-sensing soil sensors from nails, and plaster of Paris.

According to the author, this is how the soil sensor works:

As water is added to the problem more electrons can pass between the probes effectively reducing the amount of resistance between the problem to the point when it is fully saturated where the probe has virtually zero resistance. By using this range of values you can determine the amount of water than exists in your soil.

Rather fantastic isn’t it? I think this certainly can be applied to many hydroponics applications too.

Yup, I’ve been hacking my Nexus One phone a bit, this is my first time with Android phones but seems like I am getting the hang of it. I’ve just installed the HTC Desire ROM on my Nexus One and I have to say, it’s rather nice.

I can also switch back and forth between the Cyanogen Mod and the HTC Desire, which is really cool.

Now, I just wish there were more ROMs available for the Nexus One.

I know I mentioned this Nexus One Wifi hack couple weeks back but didn’t try it myself and found that instructions out there are very lacking so I made my own howto guide on how to hack(tether) your Nexus One into a WiFi router!

The procedure is pretty safe and there’s very little chance you will brick your phone but it will void your warranty plus make your Nexus One into a super Nexus One so proceed at your risk.

And btw, this WiFi tethering app is so much better than any paid apps you will get out there such as PDAnet so highly recommended and it’s FREE.
