Hi everyone,

Zeeba Books will be springing back to life, going is a slightly different direction. I am now going to be specializing in only 3 types of Books on this site. We hope to be a goto resource for books on and about Montreal. Two great reasoons for this. Living in Montreal I obviously have access to many fine local history books and reason number two is simply that I love this city.

I’ll be regularly posting Montreal related books on everything from Architecture to local landmarks like the Fraser library and Royal Victoria Hospital. Here is an example of an amazing book on Art Deco in Montreal Architecture.

The other areas that Zeeba Books will be focusing on are Hockey and Golf, two of my other passions.

Some of you may know that I have many other project going on all across the Interent so I’ll be using this platform to give updates on those as well. In fact I just put together a little post in some terrific Montreal Blogs over at HubPages.

So if you are looking for books on Montreal, it’s people, buildings and history then please come back from time to time. I hope to begin tonight - putting up a couple of new books each day until our collection rounds out.

We lasted almost 4 years and loved every day of it but with a young son to be considered it just didn’t provide enough revenue. I’m grateful to all of you that spent some of your time with us and will miss the day to day interactions.

I’ve moved back to my more serious career of computers, specifically - application support, for a great software company called SirsiDynix.

I still sell great books on the internet and will from time to time invite some folks over. November 1st will be the fist day we try this. The books we now sell consist of the following categories:

History - Canada, Quebec, US, English and World

Film

Biography

Hockey & Golf

Travelogues (not guides) & Places

Religion

Poetry

Literary Criticism & Essays

A Large fiction section (over 1400 books)

We no longer carry thrillers (with a few exceptions: King/LeCarre/Ludlum…)

We also no longer carry Cooking, French books, Science Fiction or Romance.

If you are interested in coming by send me an email to bruce@zeebabooks.com

Nature in the eye of the beholder

Rippling with verve, this fourth collection of essays culled from the latter half of Quammen’s tenure as a columnist at Outside magazine (1981-1996) displays yet again how dexterously he fulfilled his monthly mandate “to demonstrate that evolutionary biology, theoretical ecology, and the incisive contemplation of nature can provide piquant entertainment for people in dental waiting rooms.” Among his obsessions this time around are spiders and snakes, sperm and (somewhat more equivocally) eggs; reflections of nature in the eyes of artists and writers (the title alludes to Albrecht D?rer’s woodcut of a rhino armored like a feudal German knight, one of the world’s first mass-produced images); and durian, a thorny yellow-green fruit the size of a rugby ball, which “smells like a jockstrap” but yields a pulp that’s “creamy and slightly fibrous, like a raw oyster that’s been force-fed vanilla ice cream” and that envelops another recurring motif: the nutmeg.

Near Fine/Near Fine hardcover with light bumping to base of spine. First Printing, Text is clean and crisp throughout. From the author of “The Song of the Dodo”. The dustjacket has only very light shelf wear. Published by Scribner
