Lets face it, a good stiff drink makes it easier for even the most uptight person to discuss politics. Sunshine and Kalani certainly don’t need a cocktail for conversation about the subjects like “don’t ask, don’t tell” or gay marriage. This episode is not all serious matters, we also discuss how helpful a good dose of ginger can be, both in your drink and to curb many ailments. Our cocktail takes across the pond this week. Pimm’s Cup is a classic British cocktail that no Wimbledon would be complete without. Luckily here in the states we can easily get our hands on Pimm’s No1 without much trouble. This light on alcohol drink allows Sunshine and Pumpkin to converse with a little more coherence this week. Have you ever wondered how meat eaters are killing the planet? Pumpkin has details. Maybe you thought that alcohol was a cure all, but the supreme master being tells a different story. Sunshine and Starshine in the lounge this week. After some fairly painful dental work Sunshine is a bit under the influence of numbing agents so our drink this week is not the usual poison. Using Beachbum Berry’s iPhone app we find a great coffee cocktail called Otto’s Grotto. Try this one after dinner, with dessert etc. Our subjects this week range from the west coast to the east. We welcome about a dozen new listners and fans from the east coast thanks to listener Ronnie who did some great “word of mouth” for us. Back here on the west coast was the memorial service for MJ: Michael Jackson. The entire city of Los Angeles is a little ape s&!t today with all the goings on down at the Staples Center. Both Sunshine and Starshine have their own unique point of view on the passing of the King of Pop. On a more Zen note we go over a few thoughts on living a more stress free lifestyle and what exactly is ZEN anyway. There is plenty more current events discusses as well, tune in and enjoy!

After many many emails from our listeners we knew it was time to do a show on Vegan foods/party ideas. Now and then Pumpkin brings us a little tid bit about the vegan lifestyle but we thought doing a completely vegan BBQ for Independance Day would be fun for all. Sunshine naturally gives some vegan cocktail ideas (not to hard since almost all cocktails are vegan). If you are new to the vegan lifestyle you will need a few cook books and a lifeline. We recommend the following books: Garden of Vegan, Vegan a Go-Go!: A cookbook and survival manual for vegans on the go, Go Dairy Free: The guide and cookbook for milk allergies, lactose intolerance and casein-free living, Students Vegetarian Cookbook. Sunshine and Pumpkin are back together in the Zen Tiki Lounge doing what they do best. Cocktails, chit chat and shenanigans. Pumpkin has just returned from New Zealand with some tales of her two week visit. Not to mention she vents a little about the wild goose chase for New Zealand rums that don’t exist. We try more Rum Jumbie which is quickly becoming our favorite new rum based spirit, hard to find but worth it. Sunshine helps out a listener with some tips for planting your own ginger garden. Rather than read listener mail we decide to share our iTunes comments. The good, bad and ugly…..all publicity is good publicity. Mother always said that celebrities die in threesomes. Over time we have noticed this to be just as true as politicians are all corrupt. This week we lost Americas second banana, Ed McMahon. Farrah Fawcett who some called Americas angel was not far behind. And most recently Michael Jackson, Americas king of pop dies somewhat mysteriously. Reason to raise a cocktail? We think so. Sunshine does a solo spot on the lounge this week and shares some memories on all three stars. Sunshine also shares a visit to Rhumbar at Mirage Las Vegas. You may have had a scorpion before, but this place mixes one of the best scorpion bowls Sunshine has ever tasted. Listen, drink, reminisce.

You have heard us talking about Hukilau for many months now and its time to tell everyone about all the fun they missed. Sunshine journeyed from the dimly lit Zen Tiki Lounge to the bright and sunny coast of Fort Lauderdale for this years Hukilau 2009. Starshine joins Sunshine in the lounge to drink a splendid new cocktail discovered in Key West at the Rum Barrel. While in Flaaarida we met many a great tikiphiles and imbibed many new cocktails as well as the old favorites. Bumping into listeners of the podcast was not only fun by a great chance to put facebook/myspace names to real people. Sunshine also had a chance to see the premiere of Tikimentary, a great short film about the phenomenom that is Tiki. Duda Leite spent a good deal of time putting this film together and we were lucky enough to be there for the Hukilau premiere. You ever want to see sock puppets do naughty things to each other in an educational way? We here at the Zen Tiki Lounge could think of nothing better. So here they are drinking with us, sharing some ideas of their upcoming show and hopefully making a very big splash very soon. Pumpkin ensured that this show is like most, diving quickly to talk of body parts and bathroom behavior. Sunshine is more preoccupied with renting the house from “Big Mommas House,” and worrying about the demise of the much loved Polaroid picture. Sit a spell, drink up and listen till your ears bleed.
