In January 2013 Zeus “officially” rolled out the platform that included a social network, golf talk radio channel, and web TV. The completely digital communications platform is 100% focused on internet marketing for  Myrtle Beach Golf. Based in Myrtle Beach, SC and being avid golfers, the developers felt The Golf Director could not only benefit the golf courses and golf packaging companies, but area merchants, resorts,  and restaurants as well.

The key to making this type of platform work relies on the ability to reach golf vacationers before they arrive in Myrtle beach. Today’s travelers normally know where they are going to eat, sleep, shop, and be entertained well before they leave home…relying on the internet to guide them through the decision making process. To be found by those searching for relative content, to interest them in TGD content, and provide an interactive platform to capture their increasingly shrinking attention span is the TGD challenge.

The roll out included a 24/7 Golf Talk Radio channel primarily focused on Myrtle Beach Golf. The programming allows for live shows to be replayed for multiple time zones, and to be archived for listen on demand and podcast download. Running on the well established Zeus Digital backbone that already had a reach to over 160 countries and territories,  all 50 United States, and over 20,000 cities, TGD was poised for immediate success.  What happened 3 months after the launch surpassed all expectations.

The broadcast team decided to included coverage of The 2013 Masters at Augusta National along with Myrtle Beach golf information and the normal social media interaction. Local PGA Professionals were interviewed about The Masters and encouraged to allow their opinions to be heard.  The network listening audience grew at a rate (over 400% in one week) that had the team scrambling to allocate sufficient bandwidth to accommodate the wave of new listeners from 112 countries.

The track record thus far has proven there is significant global interest in Myrtle Beach golf and the TGD platform has the ability to reach and engage them. In addition to the United States, the top ten countries tuning in include (in no particular order), the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Spain, Ireland, Korea, Guatemala, Australia, and New Zealand.

TGD plans to launch it’s first Web TV series in the summer of 2013.

Ben has been part of the Myrtle Beach golf industry since 1987. He has held positions as the Head Golf Professional at Brick Landing Plantation, General Manager at Meadowlands GC and Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club. He has developed junior golf programs, promoted national golf tournaments and is considered one of the top teaching professionals in South Carolina.

Lauren Hunt, LPGA Future Tour Player
After an impressive amateur career Lauren attended the University of North Carolina on a full golf scholarship graduating with a BS degree in communications. She now competes on the LPGA Futures Tour. Lauren is the resident touring professional at The Pearl Golf Course in Sunset Beach, NC.
